Hi!  Heres my story...

After battling weight for many years, my peak weight was 137kg.  I opted for Lap-band surgery in 2006.
My relationship with the band was a very good one!  Losing over 50kg.  I remained at a very comfortable weight for years, food was no longer a focus in my life, I still enjoyed cooking, but the joy came from sharing it with friends and family, rather than eating it myself!

2012 - 2014 I suffered from heartburn and reflux from the band, but dealt with that with a prescription. In June last year, I started getting quite severe pain after eating, which I assumed was heartburn.  It escalated to vomiting every time I ate. I went back to my clinic and they emptied the band, and while that offered some relief, it didn't last long.  A week later, I had extreme, debilitating  pain, and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.  I had my Gallbladder removed, and was told my 'heartburn' was probably biliary colic.  The 'heartburn' was immediately resolved after the surgery.

A few weeks later, I began to get very similar pains.  I assumed it was 'healing' pain, but when the pain spread round my back, and was very painful when i ate anything, I headed back to the hospital.  Barium swallow test confirmed an issue with the band, and the camera pics concluded I had severe band erosion.   The band was visible (5cm length) inside my stomach.

The bank was removed in September 2014.

I self funded the original operation, and was gutted to find out I wouldnt qualify for the state funded option because i no longer 'qualified' due to the weight loss from the band!  Catch 22.

However, i persevered and after many tests, 6 months, (and weight gain of 20kg+ despite a calorie controlled diet), I have been approved for revisional surgery.
I have been given the option of Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass.... and I am struggling to decide which will be best.

I understand both have their pro's and con's...
Im aware of all the post surgery risks, but Im more concerned / would like to hear from people who have had sleeve / bypass for at least 5 years.....

I would really appreciate any feedback on the following:

Bypass -
Very little / No revisional options...  has anyone had anything go wrong after a number of years?
Dumping...
Ive heard yu get very 'noisy' digestion.. and a lot of wind!!  Is this the same for everyone?

Sleeve -
Given this is relatively 'new' Im very interested in long term satisfaction / issues, if any?
Ive heard after a few years the stomach can stretch and revision is likely to maintain restriction?
Ive heard people revising from lapband to sleeve, often feel no restriction?  it this common?
Ive also heard the chances of getting heartburn are high with a sleeve?  are there many people who never had heartburn before surgery, who now have it badly?

I am super excited about getting back the restriction that I enjoyed and relied on with the lapband, I have a follow up appt in 6 weeks, and have to lose 5kilos in that time.  Im confident.

Would love to be confident I have made the right decision, so I look forward to hearing from anyone that could assist.
