Hi there I was banded in August 2008 and lost 120lbs before getting pregnant in 2010. Since having my son in 2011 I have had any issues with acid reflux and not being able to get food down. I have had my bad filled/unfilled so many times and when it is empty no reflux issue but still food issues. Well finally a few weeks ago the surgeon has agreed to do the revision to sleeve if I want. The only thing that has be worried is he said my risk goes from less then 1% (never having WLS) to a 20% chance if leaking with a revision. I have a 14 month old ... If approved for band to sleeve revision he will be 15 months, walking and about 24 pounds. I know you can't lift 20 pounds for 4-6 weeks.... Do you think 4 pounds makes that big a difference after about 3-4 weeks post op? I know I have to ask my doc and I will... But has Anyone dared to do this with a toddler??? Thanks as always!!!!

I had the band for 2 years, went in for a revision on 9/11, woke up after a 5 hour surgery with no revision. The band had done to much damage. I spent 4 days in the hospital. Anyway, my doctor is going to do an endoscopy (probably sometime in Dec) to see if my stomach has healed and I could get the sleeve. I'm wondering if insurance will cover the sleeve as a 'delayed' revision, or if they will require me to do the 6 months of supervised visits? Anyone else have a similar story? What did insurance require?

I was banded twice in seven years. The first band slipped and my doctor put in a wider band that was less prone to slippage. It worked great until recently. I couldn't even keep down 2 oz. of water to take with my daily pills and have had frequent heartburn. Oddly enough, I've been eating a lot at night. I put on 20 lbs. of the 100 lbs. lost. My doctor believes the band has eroded into my stomach due to being so tight. I failed a barium swallow test and he deflated the band. The problem is, I'm eating like crazy now! Hi I am fairly newly banded (6/13) and my port has to been replaced ... I know so disappointing ... Was wondering if anyone knows if you need to do the liver shrinking diet before .. My office just said fast after midnight .. So I was curious .! Also, if anyone knows what the recovery is like .. Said it will be outpatient and home the same day!

Ok, Which is better on coverage? Basic or Standard? I have basic right now. When I had my band in Jan 2010, basic was the way to go. I only paid 100 co-pay surgeon and 100 co-pay to the hospital...very easy process and approval. I wasn't even required to do the psych eval or 6 month diet plan.. I was approved and had the surgery in two weeks after approval. I saw the doctor initially a month before surgery. Right now, I may be able to get my band removed and possibly get a revision surgery done to the sleeve... due to slippage and doctor not being able to access the port. Well, I am officially approved for band to sleeve revision on Oct. 24th. My doc wants to do it in ONE surgery. My band has been drained for 2 years so he feels one surgery would be fine. I pray that is the right decision. I am having a bitter sweet moment... I am excited for the new journey and praying it is the best decision for myself and that I am successful especially since I was NOT on the band. I had a revision done Aug 13th in Atlanta, GA. At my 2 wk visit, I was told I lost 11 lbs. Now, I'm realistic and understand it will not be the same as first time around where I lost 21 lbs the first week and 120 lbs by my 7th month. But, I'm a lot concerned bc I don't feel the same as I did on my first surgery. I don't have that feeling of fullness and my hunger has not gone away. I can gulp a bottle of water down in just minutes. I am afraid that the only revision done was to the opening and not so much to the pouch. I had a mini gastric bypass 10 years ago and was revised to a RNY 6 weeks ago and we've run into some problems. I'd like to know if there's anyone else out there who has been through this who I could ask about it.

I have UHC (through att) does anyone have this plan and how log did it take to get approval and do you know what if any requirements had to be met to get approved? I just called my surgeon office to find out what is going on with my approval it has been 14 days so I wanted to know. To which I found out that insurance hasnt declined my surgery they just want a diet journal of the last 5 years of my diet since I had the lapband. How do I do that? Most of the time I was compliant then when I had complications from my lapband I could barely keep food in. If I eat Protein, chicken, hamburger, steak, turkey what ever I would never know if this is the meal that would make me throw up. Hi everyone. Just a post to share my story. I was banded in 2008 and have had a love/hate relationship with this band ever since. It took a year and a half, and a dozen fills to get it right. I did lose just over 50 lbs and have kept it off. But my eating for the last few years seems terrible to me. So many healthy foods I can't tolerate. Eating out is miserable. Travel is the pits. The fickleness of this band boggles the mind! Sometimes I can eat my portion fine, the rest of the time I'm stuck and vomiting on two bites. The constant tightness in my chest and pressure when I eat. And don't get me started on the heartburn! I never had it pre band. and it has been constant …

Just found out today after an UGI last Friday that I have a slip. After talking with my surgeon he will be adding plication to my revision and I'm wondering for those that have had the band without plication and then had a revision adding plication what their experience was. Did you notice a difference in how your band functioned? Did you tend to lose faster with the plication? Any and all experiences are appreciated.

I had my 90 day check up today & I've lost a total of 51 lbs. My doc is very happy with me since he went through everything with my band for 5 years. I'm a lot happier with the sleeve & so pleased with myself that I made the decision go with the sleeve.

Has anyone had a RNY bypass revision? I had GBP in January 2005 and did great by losing almost 100 lbs. But in 2009 I started gaining weight back due to reverting back to my poor emotional eating habits after a horrible divorce. I have gained 75 lbs back and I'm pursuing a revision. My surgeon is well renowned for revisions but I don't know anyone who has their RNY redone. Any feedback?

Hi everyone, I'm 3 days out and the pain isn't that bad, except when I sleep. My question here is my doctor NEVER discussed ever needing a port revision as a side effect- is this common? How does it happen, and how do you know u need a revision? Sorry for all these questions concerning this topic, but I'm perplexed by it all. Any generous help is appreciated!

Hi revisioners! I am paying for revisional band to sleeve surgery. I have seen both Marina Kurian at NYU and researched/talked with patients and coordinator of Alberto Aceves in Mexicali. I got my band in Jan 2010, lost 60 pounds, had ongoing problems with maintaining a reasonable restriction, gained 30 back, etc. Basically I'm trying to decide between the general surgical excellence and proximity of Kurian and NYU and the (as far as I have heard) vast experience and excellence of Aceves but significant distance if I have a problem/complication. I have had 2 bands... Both unsuccessful (over last 7 years). I had all the fluid taken out 2 years ago when I got pregnant. Now my baby is a year and one I can no longer afford follow up and fills. And 2 after only loosing average 20 total I feel it's pointless. I am considering the sleeve. Hi, I had gastric bypass in '03, I weighed 312 the day of surgery and I lost down to 204 after surgery. At my heaviest I weighed 420lbs. I went through a messy divorce after my surgery so the pounds started to creep back on because I wasn't eating and when I did eat...it was the wrong thing. So, my life is so much better and I'm ready to dot his for me!!! I'm contemplating either the lapband or just having my pouch retightened. So excited!! Just received call from my coordinator that my insurance has approved my revision. I was banded in 2005 and after losing some weight initially (never really finding the 'sweet spot'); I started having terrible issues with reflux and vomiting but no slip. When MD took the fluid out the vomiting and reflux almost stopped. I left the fluid out and we tried to fill again with smaller than average amounts and had almost immediate reflux. I have not had any fluid for the past 2 years and the weight has come back plus 10 additional pounds. I am looking forward to this life change with the sleeve as my guide. Hello all, I had the VSG done a little over a year ago (June 2012). After 5 months post-op, I have not lost any weight and even gained 10 lbs back. I decided to look into getting a revision to either the RNY or the DS. My insurance approved revision to the RNY because I also have severe acid reflux. I weigh 185 and my BMI is currently approx 33. I had lap band done May 2010. I went from 315 down to 240. I was proud of myself but annoyed I seemed to stall out there. My hubby and I started talking the beginning of this year of him having the gastric bypass done and me having the revision. As I type I am sitting in the hospital with hubby as he is recovering from his surgery yesterday. I am hoping to have the revision done the end of next month (waiting on insurance approval for revision). My question is did anyone have the revision done with a baby at home? Our son is 7 months old and we are curious how this will all work with taking care of our son too.

Has anyone out there had to have their port moved or as the doctors say revised? They are thinking that mine may have become loose and or it keeps pressing on a nerve. I told that it is a 1 percent chance that this happens. Not feeling to swift about this. Would love to hear from others.

Greetings! I am curious about other band to sleeve stories. I hade my band put in 5 yrs ago and lost about 90 pounds (slowly) over 2.5 yrs. Then plateaued and started gaining (about 50pounds back on, bmi 40). After my friend had RNY 8 months ago and seeing her successfully lose 100 pounds I realized I need to try something else. I didn't even realize this was an option but I emailed my surgeons office (his preference in lap band) and asked if there were options. Currently had a port revision due to a flipped port. I have had the band 3 years in july. I am 15 days post op. I am still sore and I apparently have fluid between my port and skin. I look deformed. Didnt know if this was a common thing. I have my post op appt on Thursday. I had to go to the er a week after surgery and thats when they found the fluid but it seems to have gotten worsr and all I was told was that it will go away. Anyone else experience this? Thanks

I'm trying to get a revision. I got my band 3 years ago. I've lost all but 15 pounds so I'm barely overweight now. Do you think insurance will gripe about that?? My insurance has the easiest bariatric process ever so I'm hoping not. They do not require a six month diet or medical records: only a letter from the surgeon stating your current diagnoses and health problems. It only took them 4 days to approve my initial band.

I've had a lapband for 2.5 years and have been experiencing troubles (acid reflux, trouble with solid foods, etc.) and am considering revising to the sleeve. The problem is my current insurance (Federal BCBS Basic) does not cover a revision under these circumstances and at my current weight (I went from a 41 BMI to a 31 BMI with the band). Are there any Federal employees in Colorado that have managed to have their revision from band to sleeve covered by their insurance? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I cannot afford it any other way.

Went to 5 month post op visit. TWL54 lbs. Have had one fill 5 cc in my allergan band...Dr had a hard time accessing port 2 months ago..5 sticks. Now for my second fill NP tried three times and then called surgeon..he attempted three times with no success. Have to go back Friday to try to have fill done in the OR with fluoroscopy if not successful they will go ahead with revision...hopefully just the port. Dr thinks to weight loss in abdominal area has caused port to shift. Tummy is very sore tonight where they physically tried to.manipulate port. No matter what happens Friday I am still happy to have started this journey!

Hey everyone, Well, my "slight slipped" band turned into a full blown major slip over the weekend. They unfilled me totally and will let the swelling go down.Talked to the insurance girl in my drs office today to make sure that Medicare will cover a new band and if they would cover plication. They will cover a revision (but not plication, bummer) even tho my BMI is ony 27 because of complications. They will also cover the sleeve. I'm researching it right now. So this morning I had my second and hope last port revision. It had flipped again so I decided to get it fixed. Feeling sleepy and tired and hopefully I will be up and running soon.

Anyone here who had to get pre-authorization for a band removal, without any subsequent revision? My pouch is seriously dilated, and the surgeon wants to remove it ASAP. I'm not willing to do any further WLS. If you had to do this, did you have any trouble getting insurance to authorize it?

Hi my name is JAMES I ad a revision from sleeve to bypass nearly two weeks ago. Would like to talk with others who have had it done, as I have some concerns that I wish to talk about. I don't feel any different after the revision like I did after the sleeve. Eg feel no restriction and never had any real pain after the op. looking forward to hearing fom you. I had my Lapband removed on 5/28/13 and revised to VSG. I was in the hospital for 5 days and have been home trying to recover since. I had a fall backwards at the hospital where I was certain I split my staples or new stomach, but apparently I didn't. I believe because of the fall I am healing less rapidly than others. My one week follow up appointment is tomorrow morning. I have been up and walking faster every day every few hours. My incisions (5 in all) are unbelievably painful when standing from seated and sitting from standing.
