I was wondering if anyone had any issues with insurance going from one bariatric surgery to another, I had the Lapband it slipped, (not from me over eating) I had it taken out about 6 months ago and looking to get gastric bypass... I'm worried my insurance won't approve me... Anyone have any insight? I am on my mothers insurance (I'm 24) and I also have Medicaid her insurance is Anthem Blue Cross Blue Sheild HMO Blue New England and we are from New Hampshire.. I know it depends on the individuals plan but I just wanted to see others issues or success...

Hello all! I had the lapband 5 yeas ago, it slipped due to being to tight, had surgery to correct it then about 6 months ago I had it removed... I am starting my journey to get gastric bypass. I am a little worried about scar tissue and issues with bypass because of if... Has anyone revised and been okay ? Any issues due to scar tissue ? This is all if my insurance approves for revision.

For all you out there that have had the revision surgery, how long were you in the hospital for? Any feedback would be great - I've had my band in since 2008 - with the first surgery, they tried to send me home that day but I was too nauseous to walk so I spent the night. Just wondering what the average stay is for the "revisions"

I had the lap band surgery done in 2008. It never worked as promised for anything. It never caused me to have satiety. It just made it painful to eat. My surgeon was inexperienced and put a 4cc band in but told me it was 10cc so I was confused at to why 3cc of fill was causing me so many problems. He ordered an upper GI and found out why and immediately took out 1.5 cc (nothing was getting through). He had unrealistic expectations for weight loss (wanted 10-15 lbs in 3 weeks post surgery and without any fill). I was originally banded in 2007, and had a great success with the band, losing all my excess weight. Unfortunately, I did it by having severe restriction, causing major acid reflux. I was banded in September of 2012 and i lost a total of 103 l s. I recently started having much pain and decided to have all the fluid removed from my band. On Friday i had an egd done and they said i have a hernia. I am so confused as i wanted to have a revision to gastric bypass but dont know what they are gonna do now. Had anyone had this type of problem???

Hi everyone. I haven't been on in awhile due to the fact that I have completely derailed. I had the sleeve in October 2013 and lost 65 lbs. I have been suffering with acid reflux. I am on 80mg of medication a day and still cannot keep it under control. My doctor has recommended that I have a revision to bypass. He says that people who have the RNY are less likely to have heartburn then those who have the sleeve. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or anyone who has had this revision. Hi Everyone, I have been away for a few years and now I am back. I had lap band 7/8/08, lost about 40#s but have had 5 slips so not it is time to take it out. I have been as patient as I can be, tried to stay positive and not give up on the band, but I realize it was not right for me. Went to see surgeon about revision to RNY, have started the pre-work up and hope to have everything completed for surgery in Feb 2015. Fingers crossed that this will work, I am getting too old and my body can't keep up with all this extra weight. I hope to learn lots from those of you that have the experience.

Hi all, I'm new here and just looking for every and anything I can absorb with regards to this surgery. I'm super anxious as I saw one of the PA's in my surgeon's office today to discuss removal of my 9 year old lap band and a possible revision. I see my surgeon on Monday but I'm scared to death that even after seeing him he may tell me I'm not a candidate. Anyone out there have a gastric sleeve revised to a gastic bypass?

I had my band in 2011 and I did well until about March 2013. Eventually in October we found out that my port was no longer connected to my lap band and needed to have revision surgery. I had the revision surgery, but got pregnant soon after so I never got it filled. After my pregnancy I finally got a fill. When I went back a month later, she had trouble giving me a fill and said I needed to have more surgery. I do not feel much restriction and I am wondering why there is a problem with getting a fill? Anyone else with this problem?

I am looking into Mexico as an option for a revision from band to sleeve. Who did you use? Why did you choose them? Who would you not use, why? How was your experience? How much did you pay? Did they fix any hernia? Lots of questions yes. I have been scouring the boards for all any information. Thank you for any responses and any information on your experience.

Hi. I had surgery on Oct 15th to fix my slipped band. Dr unfilled me to 1 cc at surgery. Finally went for my first fill and got .5 cc. Felt nothing. since surgery I've gained 15 pounds. My mind is really taking control cause I feel like this is a last chance to eat foods I can't when the band is filled. So, I requested another fill and received another 1 cc for a total 2.5. But it's been 4 days and still no restriction and still get hungry before the 4 hour mark. I'm starting to worry there is something wrong with my band.

After having Lap Band surgery in March 2010, I lost 75 pounds, but started to get horrible acid reflex as the band was tightened. I still need to lose at least 50 pounds so I made the decision, along with my surgeon to revise to a bypass. Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday November 11, and I must admit I am nervous. I had no issues after the lap band surgery other than extreme nausea from the anesthesia. I have never used a PCA and hope that it will control pain, since I am a major baby when it comes to being in pain! Any suggestions or advise is welcome! Thanks, Diane

Hi! I have been banded for 6 years now with absolutely no success with the lap band. I never lost weight with the band and all of the subsequent fills. The only thing I think the band do was make it harder to swallow food. I was told before getting the band that I would not be hungry.....which was DEFINITELY NOT the case. I'm physically hungry all the time. After a year of fills & trying, I had the fill removed and have been struggling with one diet after another. Hi, I saw my Dr Monday, an upper GI confirmed that my band has slipped and my pouch I'd dilated. I am assuming that my insurance is going to cover the repair/ and revision to the sleeve. I decided to wait until Dec 16th due to schedule issues. I can eat some, but I stay nauseous and have incredible heartburn. I've been reading post for several days, but I don't see many people with slippage. I found that odd. Thanks for letting me in. I need lots of support. Lol I was banded in 2008 and have lost 135 lbs. I regained the 35, but I have it under conrtol. I am not losing now. Even with really low calorie intake. scales just not moving.

Hello every one! It all stated back in 2005 with my wife getting her band placed. Seeing the results it was good on the beginning. So then I had mine placed a year later. Lost close to 30 lbs. the body fat has slowly dropped to 33% diabetes and hypertension and high cholesteral never ever went a way. Has anyone had to have a stent placed after band to rny revision? I have had my stent 8 days and I have beem hospitalized for 3 days and now receive IV fluids and meds around the clock at home. I need to know someone had success from the stent I will be bed ridden for 3 weeks to keep it in. I have not eatem in 15 weeks since I started my pre op liquid diet. I have been on clear liquids amd need advise and encouragement to continue.

Hey folks! I am having a revision going from the band to sleeve in one operation on December 5th. Could some of you tell me how your experience went and the big differences you could tell after surgery. Now with the band it is uncomfortable to eat and just not a pleasant experience at all. And another thing I am looking forward to (and I know it sounds crazy and gross because I can't do it now) is vomiting. I physically cannot get anything up now when I'm sick. I just dry heave. Why did you choice to go with the RNY/Bypass instead of doing the sleeve? I had an issue, which I've written about here, that the tubing of my port was sticking out of my stomach in an extreme fashion, so I had to have an additional procedure done to fix that. After the second procedure, which was 16 days ago, I started having very strong pain at the port site, which I didn't have after my initial lap band surgery. It's not a steady constant pain, but it hurts badly when I touch it or something bumps into it, lay in bed on my stomach or my right side, and when I make certain movements like bending etc. The pain is very strong and stinging, and it's unlike anything I've experienced after my first surgery. HI, I had a lapband done September 2013. I had it removed November 2013 during two emergency surgeries involving a grapefruit size abscess full of infection and a deteriorated stomach. April 1 2014 I went into another surgery where infection was removed from my abdomen. I am now facing my 5th and hopefully final surgery on Monday September 22, 2014. I did have to accept life changes with the band and have kept some of them in play, so I have my head wrapped around that part of it. I'm 2 1/2 years out from sleeve. Since 10 months out I've had horrid esophageal spasms, GERD, bile reflux, acid reflux, and gastritis. I've learned to control the spasms with medication and drinking sips of Water really fast. I've been fighting this for a long time and every surgeon says I have only one option, and that is to revise. I know the revision will help the GERD but the esophageal spasms ... not so much. Has anyone not had resolution from a stricture via endoscopic balloon dilation. I had my 3rd dilation in a month yesterday and it was not successful. I have built up a tolerance to the medicine and woke up mid procedure. Is surgery the only next option?

Hi everyone! I got the lapband back in 2012 and have since had little to no success. I've just been back to see my surgeon for the first time in over a year after becoming fed up with constantly being stuck, to the point where I couldn't even get Water down some days. He said I had a slight prolapse and removed all the Fluid from my band. He suggests that I switch to the sleeve. I just want to do my research before jumping into another surgery. I was wondering what the sleeve is like? What are the more common complications? And my biggest concern, do you get food "stuck" the way those with the band do? Today is my day. I'll be honest last night I almost said just take it out and forget the sleeve. I have done way too much reading on what can go wrong and I just have myself really worked up. I'm looking for anyone who is pre or post op revision from VSG to Gastric Bypass. I am pre-op and going through the pre-op studies at this time. I have not gotten 100% approval for the revision from my insurance even though they are the ones telling me all the steps and where to go. I'm hopeful that is a good sign, though one never knows. I'd love to hear from anyone! I don't think there are too many of us.

My bariatric coordinator called me about an hour ago and shared the good news. My insurance has agreed to go with my surgeons referral from revision from Sleeve to Bypass!! All of the tests taken concluded that I have extreme reflux disease an irregular shape formed over time from my sleeve. I do not intend to have my sleeve fixed because it would not fix the reflux issues, which in time would lead to Barrett's and esophageal cancer. I had roux n y 10 years ago and lost about 175 pounds. 10 years later I've probably gained back about 30. My problem seems to be what feels and looks like severr bloating. Any thoughts?
