I had my band for 16 1/2 months and lost about 45 pounds. Had my revsion on May 6th and at my apt. today went from 164.5 to 148.5. Don't think I have been in the 140's since I got pregnant with my now 15 year old. I feel amazing and had no complications, a very easy recovery, and I am eating with very little problems. I am so happy I decided to revise.

I am having a revision, lap band to RNY in June. How long did your surgery take. I am guessing 2 hours plus?????

Hello, I had a lap band placed 9/4/2009. I started @ 330 lbs. In 19 months I lost down to 170. I then had several plastic surgeries. Arm lift, breast lift, tummy tuck x 2, thigh lift. My band then slipped approx jan 2012. I developed severe reflux & began to put on the lbs. After several adjustments with no success, I consulted another surgeon. In March 2013 I had the band removed and 5 days ago, May 28, 2013, I had gastric bypass. I have gained up to 254 & will diligently do my best to get back down where I need to be. Im in a similar boat as you right now and i am kicking myself for not sticking with my diet since september it is so hard for me right now to start back but I'm mainly calorie counting since my band is empty and exercising as well. The night time is what kills me... The snacking at night im over doing it bc I'm doing well alllll day. I have to make some environmental changes at home to help myself i guess, but living with a mother brothet and boyfriend who enjoy food and not te healthiest, makes my temptations harder to resist. I'm probably going to need one, way too much fluid in my band and the dr can't get it out! Since fluid goes in, but doesn't come out (and there's no leak in the band) he'll need to revise the port. If you've had one, was it a pretty easy procedure? How about recovery? I appreciate any info from your experiences! Thanks!

Hello all!! Sorry it's been so long for me to post! It has been super busy this last month!! I'm waiting for my TT "fine-tuning" before I post my total before pics (but my doc showed them to me and OMG :0... Scary!!) Anyhow, I had my inter-medial thigh-lift on may 9th. I had same day revision surgery from band to sleeve on 5/22 with Dr. Garcia and ready for a change. Day 1 When I woke up that morning I was ready to go. My husband loaded up the car and headed out. We dropped our daughter off at my parents house and headed to the airport. Once we landed in San Diego within minutes Samuel Jr.was calling to let me know he was waiting for us. I have had my band now for almost a year and it has been a struggle I have so far to date lost 60 lbs. I spoke with a new surgeon because was not very happy with the office I was seeing I was having problems and none were being addressed in my visits, but when speaking to the new surgeon she had me convinced that I had choose e wrong surgery for me and that it isn't working out because of problems I am having. Has anyone had the revision surgery ? Or know someone that did ? I am just really struggling with this band.

Hoping someone may have some insight or a similar experience. I was revised Band to Sleeve on May 11th. Overall everything has gone really well. But, I am still having quite a bit of tenderness/pain at one incision site. No redness or infection, just some pain. It's the area where my (very high placed) port was and it is also my longest incision so I'm guessing that's where my stomach and band were pulled out. Plus it's an incision that was used in two previous surgeries, so I'm assuming that's just normal recovery for an incision with that much "trauma." But my real problem is fluids! I don't have any difficulty swallowing so I don't think it could be a stricture...…

Hello all. I was so glad to find this forum. I had no idea there were so many others with similar situations. I was banded in 2007 and started having problems in 2008 and had a horrible situation with my surgeon so I lived with pain for as long as I could take it until 2010 when I sought out a revision surgeon. He immediately removed the fluid and they tried to get the insurance to approve the revision 8 long months of testing and the insurance paying $25000 for tests the "denied" the revision. So I waited 3 years and got a new job and new insurance so we are trying again. They are already a little better because they at least have approved the band removal. I need to do …

I am scheduled to have a band to sleeve revision on Monday June 10th. Last week, I met with my surgeon. While going over the surgery he told me that I did not need to do a pre-op diet. He went on to say, "Now don't go out and eat three Big Mac's the night before or hold a food funeral but, you also don't need to go on a liquid diet either." So, I was wondering what other revision patients were told by their doctors. Did you have a pre-op diet? If so, what did it consist of? It just seems like I should be doing one.

The dr talked about how he was going to do my sleeve. He actually folds my stomach over the staples to prevent any leakage (the thing they worry about the most with the sleeve). Told me from my ct scan (they took a ct 6 weeks ago while in the ER for a band herniation) that I was a perfect candidate. So I was all ready to schedule my surgery for next month. Then..... He sent me to the insurance coordinator. She then found out that I had cancelled my Medicare part B last year (it's for drs office visits and since I'm a vet, I go to the VA for drs appts, I felt like I wa wasting $110 a month on it if I never used it. Medicare part A covers the hospital. Then she told me …

Hi, All! A few days belated, but I was six months post-revision on Thursday (5/9). I am proud to report I have lost 1/2 of my excess weight in those six months, which equals 75 lbs! Add to that the 50 lbs I kept off from my band weight loss, and I am at 125 lbs lost. I have gone from a tight 28W+ to an 18W or 20W. In tops, I've gone from a 2-3X to an XL. My sleeve experience has been nearly perfect. I did struggle with hunger early on, but I decided I just skipped the honeymoon stage that many virgin sleevers experience. I am nervous because the insurance is questioning why I should have the revision when my band is intact and not eroded or slipped. If anyone has had good results getting insurance to cover in this situation please let me know what to say to them. The band totally failed for me. I am still hungry after I eat and weigh the same.

Hello All, I am starting my research to have my band revised to a sleeve. I am searching for the best "revision" doctor in MX as I am self pay. Unfortunately, the 1st 2 doctors I called were disappointing. The first wanted to wait 6 months between the 2 surgeries (removal and then sleeve) for an extra $4k and the 2nd immediately told me to get an RNY. I have a high BMI (5'11.5" and 450 lbs) but I have seen so many people on here that have lost a lot of weight and feel that I can do it too. I had my revision on MOnday at Lehigh Valley Hospital. I ended up having a hiatal hernia that he repaired while he was in there but everything went great. I had to stay until today because after surgery my bladder always shuts down for 4 or 5 days so the worst part was getting cathed 5 times in the past three days. The pain was not bad at all and I had minimal gass, Just a little sore when I get up and down. I am so happy my band is gone, and ready to start my life being sleeved.

It seems to me I've heard of people having their pouch operated on. I'm wondering if with my dilated pouch, could a surgeon cut away part of the pouch when they are in there taking out the band and doing the sleeve? Or am I dreaming? Thanks

Last year (2012) I was having so much problem with my Lap Band (surgery Jan. 2009). Had xrays that showed nothing was wrong with it. But the heart burn, acid reflex, burping....etc.... I had had enough! Went to primary care doctor, he agreed to send me to the Gastric Surgeon. She approved my request to have a revision to RNY. BUT, she couldn't do it as she was the only Gastric Surgeon they had (USAF), so she approved the order to send me downtown. Tricare approved the order for me to see Gastric Surgeon, he approved the surgery, had all the tests, blood, chest xray, EKG, Phsic, dietician, trainer, etc....BUT, then it happened. Tricare said no! I am having my revision on May 6th and I am really really nervous. I have no pre-op diet which I found weird. When banded 12/21/11 I had to eat a high protein no carb diet but not a liquid diet. I am wondering if it is because I am down to low 160's and eat mostly protein already. Also, I went from diabetic to low sugar issues and I am wondering if sugar will make me ill after the revision. It did not after the band. Even eating a small amount of popsicles, juice or jello with sugar will keep my sugar a bit more stable. I no they say sugar free but I get sick if my sugar gets too low. Has anyone else had or heard of this from anyone else?

My only issue has been been nausea and the nurses were in it as soon as I woke up. Pain is low been walking around. Dic keeping mevin hospital till Monday. I believe ive done well followed doctor's diet etc. Bo cheating wanted itvti gi smooth. I also walked 2 miles before surgery nurse's cant believe how well im doing do yourself a favor don't cheat journal your food like on sparkpeopke. I was banded 14 years ago . I am gaining weight back & vomiting with every meal.i am thinking of revising my band to sleeve . But my Doctor says their is a 10 percent chance I will not have good results because I am revising from band to Sleeve. Does a dilated pouch effect the revision result? I am scared to go through a Major surgery & not succeed . I need advise My bmi is 27 in need 30 pounds to lose & maintain the weight I lost .

Laying here in the hospital trying to sip my oz of Water. My surgery lasted like 4 1/2 hours. Turns out my prolapse had adhered itself to my liver, so they had to remove scar tissue from my liver Andy stomach. Just got my catheter out, o2 turned down to one, now if I could just stay awake b Pain is still pretty bad when I try to get out of bed. The pain is just on by side. The big incision they take everything out of that corresponds with the liver repair.

I have gained and lost weight for the past 25 years. I tried it all: Diet pills, HCG, weight watchers, Nutrisystem, you name it I tried it. I had the band for 3.5 years. Getting revision may 2 at the Brigham in Boston I had smooth sailing with lapband recovery but I'm a bit tense for this. Any insights or thoughts. Are revision more apt for swelling. Any helpful thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Is it pointless to fight an insurance company when they have denied a revision from lapband to gastric sleeve. My band has not slipped but it also doesn't work. With the exception of stuck food and throwing up every once in awhile, you'd never know I had one. My insurance company said it was a once in a lifetime procedure and more or less hung up on me. Any suggestions?

After almost a week of researching and talking to my dr's nurse, I think I'm about 98% sure I'm going to revise to a sleeve (last week I was in the ER with a herniated band - totally unfilled). I'd prefer to wait until after my upcoming Alaskan cruise (3 weeks from today) so I don't have to be on a liquid diet and that fits perfectly with my nurses recommendations. She said if I want to have the revision all in 1 surgery (take out my band and replace with the sleeve at the same time), I have to wait for at least 6 weeks for the inflammation to go down, otherwise I will have to wait between the time they take it out and the time they replace it with the sleeve. I had my lap band done Oct 2010 and lost 80lbs. I was so happy with the weight loss but was disappointed when it stopped and came back. I felt like a failure, and to ashamed to see about other options. But after finally talking with family and friends they convinced me to and see about my options. I'm so happy I did, I found out that I wasn't alone. That there are a lot of people getting the revision. So here I am 6days post-op. Getting better and stronger everyday, and already done 12 lbs.

Hi everyone, First post here, I'm on lapbandtalk tho. I've had my band for 3 1/2 yrs and recently it herniated (bad slip). The dr closer to me (my dr is 3 hrs away and it was an emergency) took out all of my fill and told me contact my dr. I emailed his nurse today and she said it can probly wait for 3 weeks (we have a 7 day Alaskan cruise in 3 weeks and I really don't want to go on it eating only liquids!). All of my paper work has been sent in including my Insurance approval, Psych evaluation, labs, food journal, two completed quizzes, Lapband Surgeon's notes and sleep study reports. After all the paperwork is reviewed and it's determined complete, (please, please be complete!) I will have my first appointment with the Nurse Practitioner and Dietitian. I need to complete two visits with each and lose 15 pounds before I meet with the Wizard of Oz also known as the Surgeon! This is quite the process!

Recently I had asked my surgeon to allow me to use my band prior to surgery. He agreed and scheduled me for a fill. The clinic I am using called me to say that if I filed with my insurance for my fill then they would not cover my Gastric Bypass. Apparently my insurance will only cover one WLS a lifetime. Obviously I already had a WLS. I used my father's insurance to have surgery and did not use my personal insurance at all. Had anyone on here had a lap band to sleeve revision? I have had the lap band for just over a year now and I HATE it. I have had tons of problems with heartburn and having to have the bad completely unfilled for months at a time. At first I lost around 40 lbs but now I am basically back to where I was before I was banded. I am strongly considering getting a revision to the gastric sleeve. I basically just want to know how successful the sleeve is and if insurance will cover the revision?

Any thoughts to share. I'm not really nervous just trying to get prepared. I didn't have much pain after lapband but it seems I will with the vsg. I have my bag of protein samples vitamins etc all done. Still going to weight watchers to help.

I'm so confused ... Had the sleeve done three years ago and lost 70lbs however I regained most of the weight back and I am now considering the bypass but i hear that revisions have higher risks for leakage so I really don't know if i should go through with the surgery.
