Hi guys. New to forums. Had Lap Band in 2009. First visit to surgeon was 346 lbs. 321 on day of surgery. Lowest weight was 176. Had car accident, (broken ribs, etc)... lost restriction. Steady weight gain since. Checked for band slip, checked for dilation. Currently 290+. So... Have heard positive feedback about sleeve. Wondering.... is it worth a shot in the dark to get things back in control. Should also say... cardiac surgery in 08, cardiac surgery due next week. 1) Revision surgery - does insurance still require a pre-surgery supervised diet or do they exclude that by situational circumstances? 2) Would you have done the sleeve again, as a revision, if you had to…

So I had my revision yesterday and I'm feeling good. No nausea, no pain, no gas. I've been walking around with no problems. Despite the circumstances, I think I'm doing quite well. The dr took about a 1hr n half bcuz I had a lot of scar tissue and a hilated hernia. The hernia was so bad that it cause my stomach walls to become very thin. So I'm on liquids for a month and puree for almost a month. Its going to be hard, but I have to do what I have to do. So glad I did the revision. I'm ready for the bright future.

Hello everyone, I've been banded for 6 months now I've had 10 fills I hate this thing inside of me. My port I can feel all the time Let's start from the beginning 230 at the beginning pre op diet i lost 13 lbs. I have not lost any more weight in the past 6 months even though I'm excersising and eating a lot less and throwing up and getting food stuck a lot. I can't eat chicken or scrambled eggs some veggeis , grapefruit gets stuck all the time. Even when i get up in the morning and take a drink sometimes I go running to the bathroom to throw up. I've gone back on the liquid diet a few times just to try and get my weight down but it won't budge. I hate this band.…

Has anyone had luck withAnthem BC/BS covering a band to sleeve revision in Connecticut. I meet the medical criteria, but am within 30lbs of my goal weight. I cannot get a straight answer from the insurance company. Thanks - Mary

So it is sort of a weird title, I know. Let me catch you up to speed... I had lab band surgery January 2009. I was quite successful in my first 6 months then had some set backs as new insurance would not cover any fills. In May 2010 I had a few fills that brout me to the so called "sweet spot" live was good. I was losing weight steadily and all was good. All of the sudden in January 2012 out of nowhere I started feeling pains in my shoulder, really bad and similar to that gas feeling you have after band surgery. Revision Surgery scheduled Jan. 14, after a major FAIL with the lapband and I'm NERVOUS as heck. Starting to second guess my decision. But I KNOW it's for the best. Is there anyone out there that has a date close to mine, maybe we could become buddies and help eachother out along the way??

However, I have had some complications and will be having conversion surgery to a gastric sleeve January 23, 2013. There is no erosion, so conversion will take place in one surgery. Hello! This is my first post on this forum. I've been lurking here lately as I'm contemplating having a revision from Lapband to a sleeve. I've been banded since February of 2008. I lost about 115 pounds in about a year and a half. Then I got pregnant had a complete unfill and gained about 75 lbs. I've continued bouncing up and down the scale ever since. (Currently up. Hi everyone, I haven't spoken to my doctor about this yet because I want to have as much information as possible before bringing it up with him. HISTORY: I had a standard lapband implanted in March 2011. At the start of the band process I was 315 lbs and on surgery day I was 276 lbs. I am 6'0" and currently weigh 255 lbs (BMI=34). My lowest weight was 236 lbs a little over a year ago before adopting a baby and buying a business. I got back up to 265 lbs because of the stress of those events (now back into a regular routine of eating the right foods and exercising regularly) plus my doctor removed a lot of the saline from my band because he said I have esophageal …

I was banded on 3/3 and i had my first fill on 3/25 with no problems. When i went for my second fill on 4/27 my doctor couldn't find the opening to my port... he kept digging around and i could hear the syringe scraping the port, but no dice so i was scheduled for a flouroscopy on the 29th and the determination was that my port had flipped. My doctor used "hooks" to anchor the port. Now I'm having port revision surgery on 5/5 and he promises me that he will suture the port this time... i'm so frustrated :-/ Has anyone else had to deal with a port revision surgery?

I knew I was at a higher risk, I'm 3 weeks out and no problems yet. The longer I get out from surgery that safer I am? Reading these complications is scary

I had my Lap Band surgery Nov 2006 and had great success with it until late 2008 when several majorly stressful life-altering changes came upon me. Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to the site so ill give you a bit of background. I was banded in Aug 2010 and have lost around 50 pounds since then. Over the last year, my weight has remained constant, despite a series of fills, unfills, etc. Last summer, the dr checked for a slip but the films looked ok. Just bad reflux. Now, after an UGI showing a slip and a repeat UGI yesterday, the slip is confirmed and did not resolve on its own. I was originally banded on 11/1/11. I dropped about 30 pounds, but then didn't feel any restriction. After at least 6 visits with my surgeon that I was having stomach pains and was gaining weight, he realized there was a leak in my port. Since I was already unhappy with his office staff, and I was moving cross country in a few months, I decided to put a revision surgery off. Five months after discovering the leak, I finally had a new surgeon in my area and got a new port put in on 11/13/12, a little over a year after my initial surgery date, weighing what I did pre-initial surgery. I have never seen a study that shows how band to sleeve revisions do over the long run. My surgeon felt they did okay - but results are variable. I saw a bariatric doctor today who does primary care and when I met with her presurgery - she was seeing excellent results in her own practice. The vast majority doing well, at that time she had perhaps one revision patient who wasn't doing well (hooked on ice cream and all day snacking). Well, a year later, she is telling me that she is seeing trouble in paradise. I was sleeved on 11/9 after nearly 3 years of being banded (my band came out in August). I woke up from surgery and have been starving since. I know it's not head hunger - after nearly 3 years with the band, I know what head hunger is, and I know what it's like to not be hungry. It's not acid. It's not thirst - I'm drinking 100 ounces of Water daily. I'm on mushies/purees and it's still not helping. Today, I had my follow-up with my surgeon. He is not overly shocked I am hungry, but he was a bit surprised. He sent me for a upper GI to check my esophagus. He suspects dilation due to the damage from the band. Just asked a question on laproscopic revision from bsnd to sleeve and was answered to find a surgeon that has done 1000 of these surgeries. I can find the names of surgeons in this area but how do you find out how experienced (number of surgeries) they are in laproscopic revisions from band to sleeve. Thank you for your help

Hello. This is my first post over here on RNY Talk- I've been a member on Vertical Sleeve Talk for a few months. I had the sleeve on August 6th and it is has been quite a terrible journey! My surgeon could not figure out why I was vomiting daily and having trouble staying hydrated. I have a new surgeon now and he believes that he will need to do a revision surgery to the RNY. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this type of revision an what it was like? I hear your pouch is super small... Just looking for any pointers....

My Surgery date is 11-27-2012 and I start my liquid diet tomorrow. Has anyone else had a revision done and what difference can I expect? I am a little nervous.

I was banded in March 2011. The day after surgery I started having esophageal spasms. I had to go and have all of my primer fluid removed. After 4 weeks and several medications, it seemed to have stopped. So I go and have my first few fills and all is well. After the fourth fill I started having trouble with certain foods which was to be expected. But, one day I could eat something and the next time I would throw it back up. This was very confusing because I wouldn't know if I could eat something or not until I tried. After another fill I started throwing up more often so I had some of the fluid taken out. I had a gastric band 7 years ago that was unsuccessful and now my surgeon has suggested a gastric sleeve revision. I am scheduled for surgery on the 19th but I am apprehensive about whether or not it will work. Is there anyone that has gone from a band to a sleeve. If so how did you do and what was the difference.

Here is my story, I worked through True Results in Houston and ended up with Dr. Wilkenfeld. So I got my band in March, everything was going along fine and I was losing weight, down 35 pounds in 2 months. Feeling good, satisfied, not hungry, nothing out of the ordinary. Hi all.. my name is Wendy. I had the lapband surgery on 05/31/11 and had done really well until about a month ago. My highest weight was 286 and my weight as of Saturday was 141. I started throwing up blood about a month ago. My stoma was becoming eroded from acid reflux. Long story short, I ended not being able to hold anything down and got really dehydrated. I ended up having an emergency revision this past Monday. I am unfamiliar with the sleeve. Can you tell me some of your experience with it?

I was banded on Aug 20 and found out my port had flipped when I was supposed to get my first fill. Had surgery this morning and its all fixed. I also got my first fill while on the operating table. 4cc in a 11cc band. I am on liquids for today and Mushy's tomorrow. Not a lot of pain but they have me a lot of drugs. I was banded in January 2012, have lost 50 pounds, BMI is down to 29.3. However, I have had two serious pain episodes with the band that have sent me to the ER writhing in pain (and I'm NOT a pain weenie). First time doctor removed 4 cc's and pain went away. We slowly refilled and I got a little too tight and went in for a small unfill and later that day I was hit with that writhing pain again. This last time the doctor removed a good bit of Fluid and pain subsided a lot, but didn't completely go away. I was banded 11/2010 lost 120lbs with band, but was never really happy with it. Started having pain in port area. My surgeon and I decided on revison. Already happy with it band never felt right. But, still having alot of pain/discomfort where port was removed?

Has anyone went from the lapband to the sleeve. If so is the weight loss slower after a revision surgery?

So I am anxious, tommorrow is my revision surgery. I was on the lap band for 27 months and only lost 12lbs. Tommorrow, my lap band will be removed and if there is no damage to my gastrointestinal joint it will be converted to a sleeve. If there is damage then I need to wait a month for it to heal and then have part 2 of the surgery. Otherwise, I may run a high risk of leaks which is difficult to correct. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hi everyone! So I'm 25 and had the lap band in Feb 2011. Had the worse time with it. DONT GET THE BAND!! It's not worth it. Dr put in auth tuesday for the revision surgury. Hope to find out soon when I'll be getting my surgury. So happy and excited.

Even though my lapband 7 years I was told that my Sleeve Surgery would be Revision Surgery......the stomach needs be cut free from any adhesion due lapband, etc. Question............How often do these Revision Surgeries have to be done 'Open'.........not Laprascopically? Anybody here that went in for Laparoscopic Revision Sleeve Surgery and ended up with 'Open' Surgery?

So in 2009 I had lap band. Lost 25 pounds. November of 2011 I developed severe pain and other issues . Doctor removed the lap band stating that I developed a sudden allergy to the silicone. March 28th of this year I had gastric bypass. To date I have lost 80 pounds. Best decision I have ever made! I hated the band. Was either too tight or not tight enough. Not much weight loss either. My husband had the lap band in 2010. Due to not losing weight he got it removed and had the bypass 3 weeks ago. He's lost 30 pounds in the first two weeks. I'm so happy that I did this revision!!!

I am in the process of insurance approval to have a revision from Band to RNY. I have had my band for seven years. I have been very lucky to have not had any complications, no slips ect. My band is unfilled now, because i never did get the 'sweet' spot, either to tight and things would come back up or I would revert to soft high carb foods, or too loose and I can pretty much eat anything. I had my surgery for the band in Cincinnati Ohio, (I live in Indianapolis) The surgeon Dr, Trace Curry was excellent, I do think traveling back and forth for fills ect did hinder me getting where I needed to be for my fill to be right. Hi all, I got banded Oct 09 and for the last year I have had problems with my band. I was diagnosed with a dilated esophagous and it has gotten worse so it was suggested by the RN I see the surgeon for a revision as the band won't work for me long term. Meet with the surgeon today and left in tears. He said unfilled me entirely and says I will need to wait for the dilation to go away before band removal and then a healing time before revision to RNY. I was hoping to have these two done at the same time and sooner than months from now. Has anyone had this issue and can you please share your story? Did your doctor wait? How long? Hi, I have had the band since 2008. It was filled quite a bit and then unfilled slightly due to the vomting issues, etc. It never slipped or eroded. So I am having revision surgery on Tuesday and I'm wondering whether the doctor should have unfilled the band so the stomach could heal (after reading the other posts). I am very concerned. He never mentioned a higher risk with a revision or anything like that. I can't have a gastric bypasss due to a giant piece of mesh over my intestines due to a herna repair. My name is Jen. I was banded 4 years ago. I lost about 85 lbs with the band but have put back on about 25 lbs. I recently went for an adjustment and was told my band has slipped. I have not been following the diet like I should and have been able to eat way more than I should so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that my band slipped. In addition I need to get my gall bladder taken out because I have gallstones that have been causing me problems. My bariatric surgeon, Dr Abkin will be doing my Gall bladder surgery. Has anyone thought about switching from the band to a different weight loss surgery / method? Has the band been determined to be ineffective for anyone?

My doctor told me the rate of complications is higher then a virgin sleeve, but he really didn't have a specific percentage. He thought it was probably in the general range of 5% but it sounded like there wasn't much published on it. This recent, but small study of revisions had a 25% complication rate - yikes! Hey everybody! I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Ashley from Southeast TN. I was banded in December 2009. I initially lost around 75 pounds, but started having problems and gained it all back plus some. Every time I get a fill, I have problems. I switched bariatric doctors. My current surgeon did an endoscopy and found that I had a very large ulcer. It is all healed and my surgery is scheduled for October 3! I just started my pre-op diet today. I'm very excited! I feel like I'm getting another chance at weight loss. Although, I do have that little doubt of "what if it doesn't work?" I'm sure it will all be okay though!
