My doctor initially told me that the insurance probably wont cover a revision until after I complete a 6 month supervised diet. I was shocked when it was approved in less than 24 hours! My doctors office sent the paperwork over at 4pm yesterday and I received a call today at 11 am saying it was approved! I'm scheduled to get the sleeve on 4/16. Background: I had the band put in July 2011, it slipped in July 2012 (stayed unfilled until January 2013)and slipped again in March 2013. My BMI is 36, I have mild sleep apnea and have gained 15 pounds since original surgery. I had all my documents from my July 2011 surgery so idk if this helped approve this or not. My officema…

I had the sleeve 6 months ago and only lost 35lb after 12 weeks if no weight loss and 14 weeks of no inches lost It was suggested to me to get a revision . Hi All, I've been trolling for a few weeks, soaking up as much as I can and decided I should introduce myself. I had my band placed in 2008, initially lost about 35 pounds, I never really felt restriction except for the day of a fill. Hello Everyone, I was banded in October of 2009, I have never really had restriction, got stuck alot but never that sweet spot I read about. I teach zumba 3 times a week and the only time I had great weight loss was the two week post op of liquids only. I do realize that no matter how much you excercise a bad diet or eating will not make it a difference, and this is where I fell. Hey all, I've had my band now for 3 1/2 yrs and have been very successful. Lost 104 lbs in 2 yrs and was 9 lbs from my goal of 135 last year. Then 10 mths ago, I had a minor slip. One that an unfill relieved my severe reflux, but also leaving me with less (much less) restriction. I still have 6cc in my 14 cc band. 1 more cc and it causes reflux. So my drs leaving me alone since I no longer have reflux. I've been going back and forth with: 1. Last saturday turned into a little bit of a nightmare for me, the main surgery took 8 hours and wow she did a grand job considering how much saggy skin i had on my boobies but 2 hours later and 3 cups of tea, i had to go back into surgery at midnight for correction of a haematoma that was forming in my left breast, this took a further 2 hours, so i had a lot more surgery than i was anticipating, i had to have 4 transfusions the next day and drains came out yesterday and i came home today, but everything is sore and swollen, with so much surgery time now i am carrying a lot of fluid. I had a lapband placed four years ago and had good success. Steadily lost weight and went from 275 pounds to 155 pounds. About four months ago, I was so happy with my band and the progress that I'd made. I felt like I was at my goal and the whole process had been wonderful. Posted this in the pre op forum but wanted to post it here also. I am scheduled to go from a lap band to a gastric sleeve and I am so nervous. I have made the mistake of reading EVERYTHING online about the gastric sleeve and it has frightened me to the point of backing out. I am on the verge of calling my doctor and telling him I've changed my mind. Is anyone in the same boat as me? Those of you who have had the surgery, were you satisfied? Is it worth it? Will the weight loss be better than the lap band (I lost only about 20lbs TOTAL)? I appreciate any comments and advice/suggestions. Hi Everybody, I was banded in March 2011 and quickly lost 40 pounds of my 90 excess pounds. I experienced reflux and had to have Fluid removed from the band and gained 25 pounds. After an endoscopy and several flouroscopies, it was determined that there are no problems with the band or stomach. One doctor was willing to add fluid, but was also recommending a sleeve revision. I thought that was premature and went to get a second opinion. I had my lapband surgery in July 2011. It slipped in July 2012 but it fell back in place once the Fluid was removed. I had it refilled the last week in December and it slipped again last week. I only had it filled for about 2 1/2 months before it slipped again My doctor wants to remove it and would like to do a revision to bypass or the sleeve (my choice). My question is, how hard is it to get approved for a revision due to mechanical failure? I'm worried because my bmi is 36 with no co-morbities. I'm the same weight as I was before the surgery. Hi. I am 5 weeks out and I am a band to sleeve revision (one year apart) and AFTER my revision my surgeon told me ppl who had the band before usually lose slower and have less restriction. I feel this is exactly what has happened to me. Some days I am not that hungry and can eat 4bites and I'm full and then some days (like today, sadly) I feel hungry most of the day and eat 1000calories. On an average day I eat 700-850calories. I had the sleeve 6 months ago today my Doc said the words sleeve to bypass revision o.0 Now in my 6 months of the sleeve I have only lost 35lbs. I stick to my plan very well on my protein and all my calories a gallon of water a day. Workout 5 days a week 1 or 2 hours a day. Has anyone had this done? I wanted the bypass to start with but The Doc Scared my husband so bad about the bypass that I ended up doing sleeve I'm not even sure how this would help I eat so little I workout a lot get all the other stuf in I need and I only at best drop 1 or .5 lbs week. Hi all, Im scheduled for revision on 3/13/13. Met with surgeon to sign consents last week. I currently weigh 256 and although I don't know what to set as an exact goal weight, I am thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 140-150. The Dr gave me this sheet of paper with my starting weight and a weight of 183.5 as a weight that I will "probably" end up at. I would think that he would expect me to lose more than that. I sure do. Not so sure I want to go through all of this and only lose that much. I had lapband surgery in 2010 and wasnt able to get a fill after March 2011. I finally found a new surgeon and I had my port revision done 2/27/13...my question is will I start losing weight once I start back getting the fills again...I had lost 64lbs and gained 30 back.

I was banded on 2/20/13. This is my second surgery. My band slipped and my dr. put in an new band. I was on stage 1 liquids for the first week. Now I am on stage 2 pureed. Is that considered mushy/soft foods Does anyone know how long I am on stage 2? And what is the next stage? I am not sure if I follow the same stage pattern as the first time I was banded. My story has been a long 10 year roller coaster ride both in weight and emotion! I was banded at 18 in California. I was just under 250 at 5'1". I had an easy surgery and started losing pretty quickly. After a couple years, I was down almost 100lbs and feeling great until suddenly, in August 2005, I couldn't swallow Water. Some of it's my fault and some of it is because the band didn't work with my anatomy or something is wrong with it. The after care with my first surgeon wasn't that great. I was banded on 12/12/11. I have had many problems with the band from leaking and no restriction to reflux, stomach discomfort when eating, and constant heartburn. My Dr. put in for a band to sleeve revision due to band complications and I just got a letter from the insurance company saying it was approved. I have gone from 207lbs to about 160 pounds but it has been a very uncomfortable ride and I worry what kind of problems I will have in the future if I am already having problems after only 1 year. Anyone ever post on the lapband talk forum in the lapband complications section? Is it just me or do you get rudeness from people when you post about complications? Almost like whatever reason you are having problems it's your own fault? I have kept my mouth shut and not responded to the rude ones but its getting old and I'm finding that each time it happens I want to get downright nasty back!

I went to another surgeon today for a second opinion. It's like night and day from my previous surgeon. I am having my lapband and plication removed and getting sleeved on March 7th. I am only required to go to the education class next week and do the preop diet for one week. The surgeon stated that he also thinks my body is rejecting the lapband. He also said I will be much happier with the sleeve. I am so glad I don't have to go through two surgeries just to get a revision to sleeve.

I just posted this in the Success Stories topic but want to be sure that anyone thinking of a Lapband revision sees it also. Hopefully this works. I just had my second surgery on Wed. 2/20 and came home on Fri. 2/22. I am very very sore. Dr. gave me pain meds but they are not helping. My band slipped and so they took out the old one and put in a new one. I am having alot of pain on my left side! My doctor says that I have to have liqueds untill my follow up visit on Tuesday. How long do I have to stay on liqueds after a revision? Do I have to start the steps over again? Sometimes I feel hungry like I want to eat solids but then I get afraid of upseting my stomach. Hey there, Doesn't look like many folks have had this done. My Doc (OCC Dr. Ortiez) has done several and they seem to be a great solution for those of us who don't want to go with the Sleeve or bypass. The upside is that they can remove the band and do the plication in the same surgery - which is great. If I wanted to redo the band it would be 3 months from removal before I could get another one.. Anyone else out there considering this - or had this done? DonnaC

Hello, I went in for my 2nd fill today at the aftercare center and they couldn't find the access for the port. Then they put me under xray and said the port was tilted...tried to access it then did another xray and said that the port has completed flipped over. They said I would need to contact my surgeon and have to have surgery to flip the port back over and re-stitch it. My surgeon cannot see me until another week from today. I am really freaked out about this. Can anyone give me any insight to this? Do I have to go back in the hospital and be put back under anesthesia?? How the heck did this happen?? How long did you have to stay in the hospital? My self pay price allows for 3 days. Also if you have to walk and walk are you able to walk how soon after surgery

So, I had my revision from band to sleeve on January 14th. Surgery went well, went home the next day. Normal recovery. From the start of my pre-op diet until now I have lost about 20 pounds. But for the last week and a half, I have lost NOTHING. This seems so early for a stall. About a week ago after a few days of no loss I started logging my food on My Fitness Pal. At first I was only getting between 500-600 calories. So I figured maybe I was getting too few calories, and made an effort to get to 800. So I've been at 800 calories for about a week. I am scared of what damage they will find when they get there and I am trying to select a new Doctor. I looked locally at what my insurance company recommends as Centers of Excellence and I also see that there are some top hospitals outside of my region, such as The Cleveland Clinic. I am wondering if it will be worth it for peace of mind, to see if I can go to one of these more experienced hospitals for a revision? It would be a 1 hour plane ride and around $200 from Chicago or a $150 train ride for 5 hours each way. …

I am getting more comfortable with revising to sleeve and not I am looking for a broader search. Any suggestions on the best program for revisions. I think after 10 years and the paion I am having that there has to be some place that my insurance covers in this country that is "the best". I want my 3 year old to keep his Momma and therefore, I think I deserve the very best surgeon. So far, I am thinking Cleveland Clinic...any suggestions? I want to stay away from local, small-town, low volume surgeons for now.

Due to complications with my band, my doctor is recommending revision to the sleeve. However, my insurance company requires a BMI of 35 or greater even for revision surgery (I also have to do the doctor supervised diet program again). I am 8 pounds below a BMI of 35 so I can either have the band removed in which case I will automatically get fat again and then have the sleeve done as a second surgery or I can use all the tricks in the book to gain the 8 pounds necessary to get to a BMI of 35 so I can qualify to have the revision in one surgery. Hi! I'm working with Dr. Kim's office in hopes of doing a revision to sleeve. I've had my initial visit, my EGD, a follow up, and am now waiting on insurance approval. I'm wondering if anyone out there who sees Dr. Kim or his associate has had trouble getting things done? I was seen initially in November. I called the sleep study place the first week of December because they had not called me like Dr. Kim's office stated they would. I have damaged my port area and need to have port revision. The surgeon will move it to my right side and down lower. This was discovered on my first visit with a new surgeon. There hasn't been time for them to go over what to expect after surgery...the nurse said he would go over everything tomorrow morning before the operation. I've read that after sleeve surgery you don't have to have much pain med. .....tarodol which isn't a narcotic is what most say they are given. Is it the same with a revision? I would think after removing the band and port plus any adhesions you would have quite a bit of pain for 3-4 days. Can anyone give me their experiences? Thank you

Today I get my band out and revised to the sleeve. Not as bnervous as I thought. Of course I just want to make it ! I am feeling a little weak from only clear liquids and the 2 weeks on full liquids. Hello everyone , I had the lapband 6 months ago went to see a new dr. today and he told me he doesn't do the band anymore because it doesn't work. He thinks I'd be a good candidate for the sleeve or gastric bypass. But he wants me to go through his program which is a six month program. I don't want to wait that long to get this done I waited years before I decided on my band it's not working for me I've done the nutrition program and the physc council. My insurance policy changed this year...went from 80/20 coverage to only 50/50 and only covering up to $10,000. The good part, they no longer have a cap on 1 lifetime procedure; which will be good if revision can not be done in one surgery. How much did your revision cost? With or without Insurance Thanks

Hey all - my name is Tad. Had my revision January 23. More discomfort and pain than I anticipated (compared to Lap-Band surgery). 4 days out and I actually feel pretty good this morning. Ingesting 64-ounces of fluid is actually quite difficult. Just focusing on my protein shakes, vitamins, and then other fluids. Actually, I managed 44-ounces yesterday and today I will try to hit 50-ounces. Strange not feeling my old port in my left side (I don't miss it) and it is also nice to not feel that constant restriction in the band. I am so looking forward to going for a good 3-mile run when I feel up to it!

Back home from my Jan. 23 surgery. In a little more pain than I anticipated, but progressing nicely. I had my band for 5 years and lost a total of 160 pounds. Developed some problems with the band and my doctor recommended a revision to a sleeve. I was very lucky to be able to have the revision surgery and look forward to a lifetime of maintenance with my new sleeve. Are there any others out there who had a Lap Band Revision? TAD

I've been thinking about a revision for a long time now. I've spent soo much time here reading others success stories and some that had complications too. It's finally my turn to go in and meet with the doctor and I'm sick to my stomach thinking about it! I guess it's normal to be apprehensive about such a major surgery but I was not expecting this! If just the consult has me feeling like this I can't imagine how I will feel before surgery!
