Tomorrow's the big day

Aloha, I am in San Diego tomorrow and going to Mexico tomorrow for my sleeve. I've had the lapband for 6 years now. I was told that I have to do a test in the morning first to make sure my band hasn't eroded. If it has they won't do the revision. I am very nervous. I had an upper GI endoscopy 2 months ago and my GI doctor from Utah didn't see that my band was eroded. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, was there symptoms?

Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone have Cigna and got covered for a revision from band to sleeve, even though my plan states weight loss surgery is only covered once per lifetime, but on the Internet it states cigna does cover revisions for certain reasons. Anyone else have a similar issue? I would really love some feed back on this. Thanks

I'm considering port revision surgery, and would love to hear from those who has had this done. Since losing just about all of my weight, the port is so close to the surface, waistbands sit right on it, and I can feel it when I lean up against something. My surgeon said that he can replace it with a low profile port, and move it to the underside of the muscle. I'm 90% sure I will do it, but I have some concerns; the biggest one being, upsetting a system that is working perfectly. My story is pretty simple, had the band about 4-5 years ago, cost me a small fortune. Worked great for a couple of years and then loss all sense of restriction. I was either to tight or too loose. Drove me crazy. So now I have decided to go to ole Mexico for a revision. I am hoping its a great experience, though I expect pain pain pain, from what I read. Im also kinda wusey, so we will see. Hi all, My mums a bit worried because she needs to get a lap band revision, she had one put in about 10 years ago but it wasn't adjustable and basically stretched and stopped doing its job. She's wanting another lap band put in, but can't get it done if they can't remove the old lap band. Just wondering if anyone else has gone through this so that I can get back to my mum about it, I know other people have had revisions to other WLS's, but I'm assuming it's the same process as they still have to remove the band? I found out my insurance will cover a revision surgery; although my surgeon is out of network so I'll be footing part of the bill. I had my band removed on 4/3 at 225 pounds and am at 203 this morning. I really thought they'd deny converting me to a RNY as my BMI is on the lower end. But somehow it went through. I know it sounds crazy, but I really am not emotionally prepared for this news? I've been eating right and working out a lot. I don't ever want to see 350 pounds again. Fear has been my motivator to loose weight in the last month. Now the question on my mind is do I go ahead with the RNY.

How true is it that those who underwent revision from Lap band to RNY loose weight slower than "virgin" RYN patients?

I have regained 50 lbs over four years. since Jul 28, 2010, have been on 1100 calories and exercise. Never added starches, carby foods.... My metabolism is shot, and cannot lose weight. I am seeing surgeon about Sleeve Revision to RNY or DS.

I didn't see an option to select "Revision" as a type of surgery and it would be nice to be able to properly categorize my situation. As the RNY fails more and more of us, there are people looking into revision that need good information about their options. I truly feel that the DS is the best option for people for whom, despite their very best (and even well-documented) efforts, the RNY failed. Unfortunately, an RNY to DS surgery is one of the most complicated surgeries (if not the most) to perform,and tremendous due diligence must be performed by the patient. Hi there, I am having my sleeve surgery on June 11. I am a lapband revision. I was just wondering I know there are others out there like me... I am nervous for more than the sleeve. I am having a hiatal hernia repaired and having my lap band removed.. Am I silly to worry about complications? Any contributions welcomed tia!

I had a lapband placed in 2008. I have had problems with it--namely a dialated esophogus and if I have the band tightened at all I vomit. I have SEVERE shoulder pain every time I eat and have since it was placed. I am new to Kaiser. I had my surgery in Mexico. Here's my question. IF my band needs to come out will Kaiser pay for the sleeve? If so will they require that I met their BMI requirements at the time of surgery? What history will they require? Will I have to go through classes here? If anyone has experience and can share theirs with me I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!! Lynn

I had a lapband in the states in 2008 as a cash pay and am strongly considering a revision to a sleeve but can't afford the surgery here in the US and my insurance doesn't cover it. I know it is a more risky surgery to have a revision opposed to just the original surgery and want to get some feedback! If anyone has done a revision in Mexico who was your surgeon, what was the cost and how was your experience? Thanks!

So my husband is not on board with me revising to rny. I am frustrated and sad! He is willing to listen to me "plead my case" and willing to check out the support group with me to ask questions. I am self pay, but it is not so much about the money.....more about the fact that he thinks I should/can do it myself. I am sure he thinks that, since I gained back the 60 pounds I lost with the band, ( i did have two babies in the interim) I will not be successful in the long term with bypass. Does anyone have any info recommendations on what I can say to get him on board with this???

So, I recently learned my band slipped and needs to be removed. I've been banded about 3 years and while i initially lost about 40 lbs, I've been pretty much the same for the last year or so. My current surgeon only does removals, no revisions. I'm pretty worried about having it removed bc I've read so many articles saying you will gain the weight back once it's out. I do know of another surgeon in the area who will revise to a gastric bypass. My question is, before I consider changing doctors, do you think they'd be willing to do a bypass on me if I'm not morbidly obese right now? My bmi is 32 with an underlying condition of sleep apnea. Has anyone had a simar experience…

Hey there! I was banded Febuary 2009. Fast forward 5 years, and twin 2.5 year olds later, I am considering a sleeve. I was moderately successful with the band (lost 75 pounds), and it doesn't give me major issues BUT, I really regret not getting a sleeve back then. When I found out I was pregnant with my twins 3 years ago, I stopped going for fills (obviously, because you can't do that while pregnant). Well, I haven't been back since. Had the band done 6 years ago. Lost 160 lbs but had nothing but issues with vomiting.nausea. and unable to eat. My insurance now pays for sleeve and its all approved I am excited for the surgery and hopefully no more vomiting. the vomiting with band was from anything even liquid I think my body bated the band. I tell people the band like any weightloss surgery is a tool follow the rules and be strong

Had my band out 1.5 yrs ago. I was successful for 5 yrs but it slipped. I have tried so hard this last 1.5 yrs but the weight keeps creeping up. I have finally decided to get the sleeve. I'm nervous about long term complications but I can't stand this anymore and need the help. Anyway. That's the very short of my story.

I was 300# (5'6") and lost down to 155#. I remained there for about 6 years. Over the years I've had multiple ER visits for something "stuck" and epigastric pain with endoscopic dilation twice. I'm in NYC, 39 BMI no serious comorbidities ,and I want a revision to the duodenal switch. My insurance requires six months again however I'm uncertain if they will cover it I spoke to someone on the phone and requested the written info regarding the revision. It seems unless there is something wrong they won't cover it according to the woman on the phone. Okay...what a long process. First request in December for both band removal and bypass revision surgery.... Band Removal - approved Bypass revision - denied more stuff to do, etc, peer to peer review .....now this done April - Bypass RNY -APPROVED!! Don't get too excited yet....now my surgeon's office said they have to have both approvals on ONE letter. They cannot use the two separate approval letters??? What?? So, now I am waiting for the insurance company to send them a new letter w/both approvals. They have been trying to get thru to the insurance since Monday this week, no go yet. I am sooooooo getting worn out. Anyone else hear of this before?

Okay post 2 days revision I weigh in at 246 I will keep u posted on my journey. My throat is very sore and I was only able to consume about 2 ounce of liquids today it feels sort of strange when it hit my stomach it's cramps a little and it stops. Will this get better? And was anyone sent home with a plastic bag that is draining fluid time one week post surgery?

My Dr removes the band and then you have to do the six month program again to get insurance approval for the sleeve. I'm afraid of having no restriction and gaining more weight! Who else has had to wait between surgeries and how was it?

So I am have my first appt with my doctor at the end of the moth to discuss gastric sleeve. I previously had a lapband but had to get it removed about three years ago. Would my sleeve be considered a revision or a stand alone procedure? My first surgery was self pay but I am needing my insurance to pay for this one. I'm worried if they consider it a revision that the insurance may not pay. Now I'm worried :-/

Hello Everyone-Had a Lap Band removed May 2013 after 6 yrs. of suffering and was supposed to have a revision to a Gastric Bypass at the same time. I awoke to find that Dr. didn't do Bypass because felt he couldn't do the bypass because of wrinkles and scarring at the Band site on my stomach. He said he might consider doing the surgery after 6-9 mo., but couldn't guarantee that my stomach would be able to get a good seal at the stomach reduction staple line and could leak. Has anyone else had this experience and then elected to try again and either had the Bypass or ended up having a second surgery, only to wake up without a Bypass?

I will post this in a few different areas of the forum so you may see it in other places. I got the lap band about 4 years ago at 375lbs. I had my port revision procedure today. I was awake the entire time. Didn't feel a thing. They took out the mesh completely and attached the port directly to the fascia. They said it wasn't my fault that my port flipped within the first month and that it probably wasn't attached well in the first place. I got a fill if 4cc. Now we begin the process!!!

Ok, so I am five months post open, sleeved October 7, 2013. I am down over 100 pounds since surgery date. I lost just under a 100 pounds by my three month post open date, which was amazing. I felt and do feel like a whole new person. The past 6-8 weeks I've been a bit more sensitive to foods. I still get in my protein, but my food sensitivity is pretty extravagant I guess. I wanted to share some of my fears with revision surgery. I am only two weeeks away from my operation and I am starting to get nervous about my life afterwards. I figured I could share my fears along with others and hopefully get some support as well. So here goes. These are my top fears about revision surgery: I wont lose any weight or hardly any. I wont be able to follow doctor orders and may cause myself complications. I will come out of surgery only to find they couldn't do it after all. I just hand my band removed after 6 years in. My doctor originally told me he could do the revision sleeve surgery in two months. Post op from the band removal he said there was too much scarring and now have to wait at least 6 months. Even then he said it may not be doable. Most, from what I have read have had the revision surgery done at the same time. Anyone told they had to wait, if so how long? I almost felt like he was talking me out of the revision due to the potential risk of leakage. I am unsure of taking the risk but am certain I want a sleeve. Any thoughts?

WEll, I am at the 5 year mark on May 31, and I just recently had a band slip and am scheduled for a band revision or removal on the exact same day at the exact same time. At this time, my hopes are for a revision as my doctor is planning on putting a new band in place which he feels is going to do a better job and have less risk of slippage than the one I currently have. I have been back and forth with my decision and think that if its possible that is what I am voting for. I just had revision on March 12, 2014. To repair a fistula and an ulcer it caused. My original RNY was done on May 2, 2012. Two weeks out I developed a leak. Had to be put back in the hospital for a month with a picc line and tpn. Nothing by mouth. I had a gastro gastric fistula. The dr hoped it would heal on its own and close up. No such luck. Over the next year and half developed an ulcer because of the fistula feeding acid from old stomach to pouch. It was a large ulcer and would not go away with medicine. Hello Everyone! I am new to the forum and currently have a lap band. I am looking to have a revision to sleeve and am leaning toward dr. Ponce de leon as I havw read great things about him. Can you guys recommend any other doctors that have success at doing the surgery all at once? I would prefer to not have to wake up and find I don't have a sleeve. Before I get blasted :-) I am aware there could be complications that the doctor decides it isn't worth the risk. However, I want to pick a doctor that has experience in doing it all at once. I was banded in 2005 in Monterrey MX. It was the most amazing experience ever! Unfortunately, a doctor in the states messed it up. So I do not have a fill, but the band restricts as is. It has a mind of its own. I haven't had any major complications other than food getting stuck and PB. Long story short I just want it out. I'm traveling to TJ on April 12 for surgery with Lopez. Surgery in Mexico does not even bother me to say the least, it's the idea of waking up without the sleeve. I hope all can be taken care of in one surgery. Is there anyone out there who can relate???

Hi All, I had the sleeve four years ago. I never had any problem with acid reflux until I got the sleeve. Up until about a year ago, I was able to control it by taking one Prilosec every morning. If I missed that Prilosec, I was absolutely miserable. Now, one Prilosec a day doesn't work anymore. I am taking two a day, sucking down rolaids and carry saltine crackers with me everywhere. I have heard from many people that revising to bypass helps this issue. Between that, and the fact that I have finally accepted that I really need the benefits of malabsorption, etc., I really want to revise.
