Hello:) In 1998, I had a Gastric Bypass. I weighed 479lbs. I only got down to 300lbs. Now I'm at 375lbs. I'm currently in process for a revision. I've completed most of the steps and will be up for a surgery date soon. My doctor is talking to me about the procedure where you absorb less calories. Is there anyone out there who has a similar story? I need help please...

Hi, I have had 3 Lapband slips and my doctor is recommending me for a revision to VSG. I just found out that he won't remove the lapband and revise to VSG in one surgery. He does it in two. I can't afford to have 2 separate surgeries. Does anyone know if there are any doctors in the Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg area who will do the Lapband to VSG all on the same day. Please let me know.

I had bypass along with removal of scar tissue July 16th. I am six weeks in and am still having difficulty eating and drinking. 3 weeks in I had to have an EGD to balloon the intestine at the stoma so that I could get something down. Having extreme difficulty drinking water so doctor told me to drink diet tea. Still have to take very small sips so I will not vomit. and its about 3 mins between each sip. My name is Emily. I had the lap band in 2007 and I have not been as successful as I had intended. To me, it seems that having the lap band has only created more issues in my life. Since having the lap band I have been unable to actually sit down and have a meal or drink. The doctors have tried everything and the problem remains. I had my second Lapband surgery last Thursday I was having terrible pain eating solid foods and after a swallow test my doctor discovered my band had slipped down way down over my stomach. It took four hours to take it apart and clean up scar tissue and reposition my band. Has anyone else had this happen? I am feeling fine today still on liquids I am praying this won't happen again.

Hello everyone my name is David, I'm 34 and live in the Philly burbs. I had joined this website years ago when I was researching surgery, but I never wound up using the forums. I had the Realize Band placed 4 years ago back on 8/24/2010 & I started at 379 lbs and I ended up losing 100 lbs the first year. The past 3 years my weight has yo-yo'd up and down a bit, but for the most part I've stayed in the 280 - 290 lbs range. While I'm very happy to have maintained around a 90 lbs weight loss, I still have at least 100 lbs more to go so I'm thinking of revising to the VSG. I had the Lap Band in 2011, lost about 50 lbs and had lots of the normal complications. food not going down, productive burps, vomiting, resorting to slider foods, weight gain, port site pain, etc. So after the birth of my son I decided to have my Lap Band removed in May (2014). I did my revision from band to sleeve in one surgery 2 days ago. When the doctor came to see me he said he could only cut 60 percent of my stomach because it was a mess. Anyone have a big sleeve ? We're you able to lose weight ? I thought they move around 80 percent of your stomach not 60 percent. Really worried that I went to all this trouble & not get results . I feel that my doctor Should have told me before that this may happen .

I'm debating between getting the lap band or the sleeve. I see pros and cons for each of them. The main thing I like is that the lap band is reversible and I don't know how I feel about a chunk of my stomach being permanently removed… BUT, I don't like the idea of a foreign object inside me with the band, although with the sleeve theres staples anyways.. Also, there aren't any long term studies on the sleeve yet, which worries me. As you can see I am very torn and I'd love some opinions and advice. Also, I am very curious why so many people with the lap band have it revised to the sleeve.? Let me know if I've been misinformed on any of this. Thanks!

Well I have just found out that I have been approved for a revision! I have had the Lap band for 2yrs now with little to no results, but I have managed to have bad acid reflux and a lot of getting stuck days! So, my question today is has anyone out there had to have the revision and how has it worked for you? I must a admit I'm afraid to do this again and not have any results and be stuck like this!

Hello everyone I had gastric plication about a year ago...and it was a complete failure coz I failed to maintain weight loss then put all the weight on ....my doctor advised me to have CT and then he said that my stomach is bigger than it should be at that stage..I failed to continue lossing weight just two months post surgery.It seems that the doctor didnt tight my stomach enough..Now I went to another surgeon to have a revision surgery from plication to sleeve...I'm the first in my country...I had baruim and the doctor said it can be done...Is anyone thinking about a revision from plication to sleeve ....I'm really so scared..need support

Hi Don't know if this is in the right area or not. I hope I get some feedback. I had sleeve done 2yrs ago and glad I did. I have had problems with reflux before sleeve and still have it. If I don't take Nexium it is horrible. I also have anti-acid liquid and also degas (I can burp like a man lol). Had a barium swallow and endoscopy. Great news is no scaring on oesophagus and sleeve is in good nick. Bad news is I have a hiatus hernia (knew already) and it has brought some of my stomach above diaphragm. Surgeon said that he will need to do 2 surgeries - a cadioplasty to fix hernia and stomach and a RNY to help with the reflux. I had been getting too accepting the RNY…

Hi all, Does anyone have any experience of having revisional surgery performed through the NHS post April 2013 and without medical urgency? I have had two failed lap bands (the first was unsuccessful and leaked). I have had the approval of our local funding body but Luton and Dunstable are saying that my GP cannot refer until I can prove 12 months of dietary support in the community. I have argued that I have been fighting for revisional well before April 2013 when the NICE recommendations changed. Does anyone know if other hospitals referral system is different? I'm wondering how recovery from revision has been for people. I had my band removed in April & will have the bypass July 8th. I'm supposed to go on vacation the end of August. Just wondering if I'll be ready for desert camping then. My removal recovery was easy, back to myself after 3 days. My initial lap band surgery recovery was long and hard- took 2 weeks before I was fuctioning without pain.

I had band to sleeve surgery July 11th. I know I'm only 6 days out but I still have to have help getting up and down due to great pain on my left side. Anyone else experience this?

Hi All, I was banded back in 2005 and lost approximately 60 lbs. About two years ago I started having issues with my band and gained back a significant amount of the weight I lost. I had my EGD today in preparation for my surgery and was told my band has slipped. With all the issues I've been having with it, I wasn't the least bit surprised. I am a bit apprehensive about the RNY but I believe it is my best option. If you had a slipped band or other issues, was it easier to get your removal/revision approved through your insurance co.? If so, and your insurance company has a waiting period, did they waive it? Thanks Michelle

Hello everyone, I realize there are several threads comparing the band to the sleeve, but I am still trying to find more information from people who were unsuccessful with the band and have had the revision done for a significant amount of time. I have been morbidly obese since childhood and was banded in 2008. I lost a significant amount of weight in the first 2 years but have gained half back in 4 years since then. I am new to this Website and love it so far! I had a Lapband placed in May 2012 and have only lost 24 lbs! I get stuck and have one issue after another. On two different meds now for Reflux from band. I am seeing Dr. July 2nd about having Revision to Gastric Bypass. Has anyone had this done and if so what are insurance requirements? I have Tricare Reserve Select.

Long story short: 2010: Band...minimal loss 2011: band slipped, repair surgery past two years...several small slips, reflux, and constant daily vomiting. I did lose weight! ha. but at what cost. Five weeks ago...band slipped, all Fluid removed GAINED 25 lbs. I went out of control. My own fault. Hi all, I'm a newbie here hope this is the right spot to ask - any idea what I should be eating after a port revision? I'm two days out and stuck to Clear liquids yesterday. Today I had a bowl of Soup for lunch, plenty of Water, a special cup of fruit juice as a treat and some softly scrambled eggs for dinner. Is there anyone who has had a revision surgery after the sleeve because they hadn't lost what they should have? I didn't get the sleeve done but I know someone who has. She goes to the gym religiously 6 days a week and eats fairly well yet after a year and a half has only lost about 85 lbs. The sleeve has worked but considering our doctors statement about how the sleeve will result in the most significant loss of all three procedures yet it hasn't yet yielded such results I wanted to know if anyone had had a surgery after, and if so, what it was. And I am so ready for it. Sick of being sick and tired of being tired. Reflux keeping me up at night and coughing like a chain smoker all day, it gets in the way of my health, and soon it would get in the way of my life. It's not a risk I'll take at all so into the surgery room I go like a strong woman that I am. I'm hopeful my recovery will only be 3 weeks, I want to get back to work ASAP. I've been banded since Oct 2012. After only losing 50lbs and gaining 10 back my Dr recommended the Sleeve for me. I'm scheduled for my revision the 30th of this month. If you have had a revision I would love to know your starting weight before revision, and progress. (With time frame) also how do you feel? My current weight is 218lbs. I hope to lose 60lbs.

Lots of views but no replies from my last post, hoping for something in this one Insurance has approved (after a small argument) my revision from my broken band to the RNY. Going through the steps all over again with all of the tests, hoping to get them all done ASAP. Looking for some advice and support. HI all, I had a lapband in 2009 and lost nearly 100 pounds but started having problems. If it was even close to providing any restriction I was sick, could not sleep well if at all and had to have it backed off multiple times. I had been doing well and was frustrated that I could not get any further and because it had to be unfilled most of the time was gaining a portion of the weight back. I had multiple health issues in addition to weight including diabetes, heart issues with previous heart bypass and multiple stents. So, back in 2006 I had a band put in....I did pretty well, went from 235 to my lowest was about 148, but I was throwing up a lot. Last year I started just not being able to tolerate the constant throwing up, etc, anymore and back in Feb. they had to take all the Fluid out of my band because I could not keep anything down...AGAIN.....Of course my weight has been up over this past year with my struggles. OK...my surgery is scheduled for July 23rd, and that's all I've been thinking about....UNTIL I got a job last week...not just any job a part time job in the travel industry. I mean these jobs don't come around often and there was no way I was turning it down. My problem is of course I couldn't tell them about the surgery because there are 100 others waiting in line for this job. I have a bit of a concern as I'm trying to take teeny tiny sips of Water and it seems to be getting stuck, therefore I have to spit it up and it's coming out as a bloody spit. Nurses say that's to be expected and asked me to minimize sipping for a lil while,, of course I don't want to be dehydrated though. Anyone else heard of this?

Hello - I'm going in for an endoscopy on Thursday to determine if I have a band erosion or slippage. I've been experiencing bad acid reflux, increasing tightness and last Thursday, found myself in the ER after vomiting blood. I had an emergency unfill and fluoroscopy over the weekend (I thought I had 1cc in my band but it turned out to be 3!) and am feeling somewhat better, but am still fighting with acid reflux. Hello. I just got back from having fluid removed from my lapband due to a small dilation. When the fluid was removed my stomach went back to normal, however it's bound to happen again. I want my band removed and switch to a sleeve. Please help with any info on having the sleeve done in, Mexico. Can you finance it or cash only? How much and which dr? Thank you in advance!

I was sleeved November 2012. I have had great success. Love my sleeve. Unfortunately, about 5 months ago, my reflux kicked up horribly. 2 upper GIs and EGDs later, I have a cascade stomach and it needs to be repaired. My surgery team has decided to do a bypass. I'm getting a bit nervous. Any words of wisdom or any one been in this situation?

Hi Everyone, I had my first consult yesterday for a band to sleeve revision. I really liked my doctor and nurse but was a little taken aback by the financial coordinator. I have Cigna. I would really like a band to sleeve revision performed at the SAME time. Per the financial coordinator, Cigna will not pay them for removing band and then sleeve performed at same time. They can only submit for one or the other. She said the preferred way to handle it is to first remove the band, then after NUT counseling, psych, etc, perform sleeve 90 days later.
