It's been quite a journey so far successful band surgery 2012 then problems with my band and weight regain all bar 30lb. I am on the pre op diet of lean protein and no more than 40g of carbs. Surgery is 11 days away feeling nervous and excited. Have lost 10 on pre op diet so far. Have pdh diet protein for post op in strawberry and mint choc chip. Any other revision people out there how are you all doing x

I had my lap band and gall bladder out Jan 2015, I am retired Tricare, I have 5 comorbilities and my bariactric surgeon is requesting approval for the bypass now. Does anyone know if Tricare will cover this as a 2 stage revision after the lap band is removed?

Hello all! So on Tues morning, 12/1, I go in for my revision. I'm very nervous and a bit scared. I'm so nervous of failing again, but most of all scared of not waking from the surgery. Not sure why, but I think having a nearly 1yr old now makes things a bit more frightful. Any words of encouragement or success stories are welcomed!

So had my band to sleeve surgery on the 3rd. Must say I was not expecting to still have pain a week out. All my incisions feel pretty good except where the port had previously been. I now have a very large hole in my stomach (yes it is stitched shut) but looks terrible when I turn to the side. I hope it looks normal once all the swelling goes down ???? . I have been on clear liquids for 3 weeks and hopefully will be moving to full liquids tomorrow after my Dr appt. I am happy to say I am down 27 pounds in 3 weeks!!!

I was wondering that since Medicaid/Obamacare covers the initial bariatric procedure if anybody knows if they cover the revision surgery?

I've had lap band with plication since 2012. Successful for the first 2 years losing 60 lbs. Then practically overnight started terrible acid reflux, heartburn and vomiting. Living on Prilosec. I'm going in for a revision to a sleeve in a few weeks hoping to reduce/eliminate the pain but my Dr is very concerned about the plication. He's never done a revision with one before and isn't sure if he can. Won't know till he gets in there. Another Dr flat out refused to try. Anyone else had a sleeve revision from plication? How was it?

After 8 years with a moderately successful lapband I am revising to RNY Monday morning. I've been painfully aware of my port for months now and can't wait to have it removed. I am praying that no lasting damage has been done and all goes smoothly. I know many are in my situation so I will update my progress next week - wish me luck!

Hello! In two weeks I am getting my lap band removed due to my dilated esophagus. It's literally double the size The surgeon told me no one in that office will do a sleeve conversion until after a year of healing. Is that a true case for ALL Kaiser hospitals? I've read some people get a conversion only after 3 - 6 months of healing and don't know if this is just a Kaiser rule. Thank you.

Hello everyone, I am a newbie to the forum, but have read many of the posts relating to the Gastric Sleeve. I was banded in January 2013, and was doing great for about a year, then I started having complications -- getting stuck all the time, throwing up everything I ate and severe heartburn. My doctor tried loosening the band, then filling it with small amounts, but I could never it right. Eventually, all the throwing up caused my band to slip and I had the band repositioned in December 2014. I was hoping that the band would start working again, like it had when I first got it, but I've actually gained 30lbs since the repositioning and I am still having complications! …

Here I am...a little embarrassed, disappointed, and ashamed...but I am ready for the Band to Sleeve revision. I took the plunge and had Lap-Band weight loss surgery on November 3, 2010. I worked hard to lose the weight with help from the Lap-Band, exercise, and the support of my wife, friends, and extended family. I did great and lost 115 pounds within 2 years...Unfortunately, the weight loss didn't last. I began to develop ulcers and other gastro issues and began to gain weight back (even though I had good restriction). I had to have a port revision this week due to my port flipping over. It's been 6 days and the side of my stomach where my port is located is swollen and extremely tender and the surgical site is itching. My dr told me I could go back to work the next day after the surgery but I have been in so much pain I haven't been back yet. Not sure if what's happening is normal. I don't remember this much pain when the band/ port was initially placed. My surgeon is 3 hours away so I can't just run by is office and have him have a look at it. I do plan to call him tomorrow but I guess I'm just wanting a little reassurance that what is happening is normal... Any thoughts??

Hello! I had lap band surgery August 12, 2009. THE WORST decision of my life. Finally after struggling for many many years, I am in the process of seeing if i can get this revised to the sleeve. Are there are any former banders out there that have had a revision, and if so what was your outcome? How did the process go as far as insurance? Literally starting over. Thanks for any help!

I already lost 110 lbs with the band but the band needs to come out now because of problems and nothing passing through even after removing all fluid. My surgeon recommend bypass but I am more for a sleeve. The insurance just came back and approved removal but not revision since my BMI is 28. How shortsighted. They did not even pay for my band initially since I was overseas and that insurance covered it. I do not really want to loose that much more weight since many people already ask me if I am sick or anything since I have been loosing so much in the last 4 years, and especially the last 2 years. I just started a program working towards a revision surgery from band to bypass. I'm so scared I'm going to fail again. I initially lost about 30 pounds with the band but have gained all of it back. I know I failed for lots of reasons. Basically, I can't eat a lot of dense protein without getting majorly stuck and throwing up, when I do just a little I never feel satisfied, sometimes I can eat everything under the sun, and I have general issues with overeating. I'm going to a counselor to help me find coping mechanisms that don't involve food, so that's definitely something different than when I had the lapband. Hi....brand new to this site. I'm a 2007 lap bander and due to many issues and working towards a revision. All tests, appointments done. NOW the insurance waiting game begins. I had RNY on 9-15-15. All was going well until it stopped going well. On 10-14, I was re-admitted at the hospital I had my surgery for dehydration and the next day had my first EGD with dilation. I was released to come home (3 hours away) the next day. My surgeon gave me the green light to see a local GI. On 10-20-15, I was re-admitted to local hospital same problem with dehydration and the stricture was closed to 2mm. Dilation #2 occured, then a week later #3 and today was #4. The local GI has not scheduled any more and says I need to return to surgeon for revision of the astimosis. Has this happened to anyone else?? Another surgery to fix the first one?? 1, 2…

I have been reading that a lot of people have pretty minimal pain post RNY, even post revision from band to RNY. My own information from my doctor says that after 3 days, taking Tylenol PRN is usually only what is needed to manage pain. I find this odd and I personally find Tylenol pretty useless. My mom found it odd and she had RNY a few years ago and is an RN who regularly has post op bari patients in her care at work. To me a revision would probably be more painful just because you are removing the port and the band plus any adhesions. I was told the port removal pain is usually the worst pain post op. I was self pay for band in 2001 and did well with weight loss at the beginning. Had some fills and unfills around 2009 and after that never felt right. Was too tight and did not eat well. Had imaging studies in 2011that showed esophagitis, gastritis, and a hiatal hernia. I had terrible shoulder pain and heartburn almost daily. Finally had the band emptied in 2013 but still have symptoms. Had a surgeon send in a letter in 2011 but was denied. I never got a copy of the denial. Any who want my whole story can look me up, I am thetig. I had three band surgeries in 2009 and finally in July of 09 all was well. From July 2009 until July 2015 when I was told that my band had slipped I had lost 80 pounds. I had never reached my goal but was very happy with how much I had lost. My BMI was pretty normal so once all of the adjustment was removed from the band I was able to eat a lot again ( I missed my Band) and I gained 20 pounds which was enough for my BMI to be at the right place! At the weight of 263 I had a Lapband placed in 2008, paying out of pocket. At that time GERD was my bigggest CM but I have a sister who was approaching 400 pounds so I was worried. So after the months of meeting insurance requirements, I have a tentative date of 10/7/15 for my RNY. My sleeve surgery was 10/1/12. I went into the sleeve so prepared mentally, physically and emotionally. After years of battling with the Lapband, and after months and months of battling with doctors and the insurance company, I am excited to announce that I have finally been APPROVED for my revision from Lapband to Gastric Bypass! My pre-op appointment is December 3rd, and my surgery date is December 7th!! I am thoroughly ecstatic and so nervous!!!

In 2009 I was banded at 255 pounds. I lost over 100 lbs but my band slipped in 2012, when removing it the doctor performed the sleeve. I have never felt the type of restriction with the sleeve as I did with the band. I went through a depressive time because of tough events in my life. I've had my band for 7 years and think it is probably going to come out. I have horrible acid reflux and get spasms in my esophogus. I also experience horrible cramping in my legs and feel very tired all the time. I've seem numerous doctors and none of them came really pinpoint what is going on. Hi All, surgery went great, had some issues about 4 days out with rapid heart beat, sweating, feeling faint for several days. After a visit to the ER today and lot of tests, I was told that I was dehydrated. Even though I drink 64 oz a day I can't seem to drink enough. But that aside I am happy. One week out and I have lost 7.7 pounds. Nice!

Hi I am new on here and I am not really sure where this question should go. I am in the process of having a revision to my gastric bypass (it was done in 2004). I was doing really well with it until my car accident in 2006. Then inability to move and a few other issues made me gain some weight back. Well I am having a hard time getting all my protein in and I was also wondering about other people's success with the revisions. What are the best protein shakes for the price out there? Are there any suggestions anyone can give me this time around? Besides don't get into another car accident lol.

Hey Guys, So I've been having a ton of issues since my surgery 18 days ago on 6/12/2015 m, have been in and out of the ICU/ISCU and am just hoping for some support from other people who have suffered the same complications. Here's a brief overview so far: 6/12 - went in for gastric sleeve. I woke up and they took me out to walk around. Next thing I know someone says I'm bleeding into the floor. I also believe I was taken back into surgery this day. 6/13 - I was told I didn't have a leak in the way I was thinking of it (ie gastric juice in my stomach) but that there was "oozing" from the incision line. I'm new here. I had lapband 4-19-2011 & had a lot of complications had it removed 6-3-2014. I am set to have revision surgery to sleeve 10-7-2015. I'm 5ft my starting weight was 199 I got down to 126lbs had band removed & now I am currently at 188lbs & back on blood pressure meds & cholesterol meds & I have fatty liver. Just got scheduled for my band to revision surgery with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico at the end of the month. My problem is that I am unable to have my band unfilled prior to the surgery like they recommend. I talked to the Dr. there and he said as long as I do full liquid diet for at least 2 weeks prior to surgery, I should be fine. I guess I am just nervous about that and was wondering if anyone else had the same issue? My problem is that getting someone locally (NC) to perform the un-fill is going to cost at least $750 locally (nothing covered by insurance) and that just gets out of the budget. Am I overreacting?

I am so frustrated. My United Healthcare policy will only pay for a revision if there is a malfunction with band, which means I have to get some kind of scope to see if this is the case. The surgery coordinator at my surgeon's office informed me of this yesterday, when she could have informed me last week. For whatever reason, the surgeon won't order this scope, I have to go to my primary doctor and request one, which wastes more time. However, I am going there next week, and I am sure one will be ordered right away. Problem is, there is probably not going to be any kind of "malfunction" with the band. So, I am definitely feeling a bit discouraged right now. I've had the gastric band since January 2011. Since the very beginning, I've had the throwing up/regurgitating. It doesn't matter what I eat. If I have any restriction at all, I'm throwing up 2-3 times per day. My current surgeon (not the one who did the surgery) also said according to the X-ray, my band is slightly higher than it should be, but not technically "out of place". I hate the idea of any more surgery but saw the bariatric surgeon for my regular visit on Friday and showed her the 'golf ball'. She said it wasn't dangerous but I really needed to get it fixed. So...a lower profile port is what I will get along with her stitching it to the muscle so it gets buried deeper. She said it would hurt more to get fills but I don't get any now so I don't care about what might or might not happen. I tried on a dress last week that I couldn't buy because my port was so visible. Hello all, I am 9 months out from having the sleeve and down 55 lbs and have been the same weight for 6 mths or so. I'm seriously considering having the bypass surgery since my weight loss has been a minimal even though I am doing the best I can. My stats are started at 293lbs. current weight is 237lbs. goal weight 150lbs I would love to know if anyone has had and then had the RNY afterwards and if you were successful with losing the rest of the weight. New to the site, I had the VSG in October 2011. I am 5'2" and weighed 265 when I started the pre op liquid diet and 247 the day of surgery. Six months later I was down to just under 180, never did make it to 100 lbs down. My sleeve had already begun to dilate shortly after that visit and led to putting some weight back on over time.
