Did you have your band unfilled prior to revision surgery?

Just got scheduled for my band to revision surgery with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico at the end of the month. My problem is that I am unable to have my band unfilled prior to the surgery like they recommend. I talked to the Dr. there and he said as long as I do full liquid diet for at least 2 weeks prior to surgery, I should be fine. I guess I am just nervous about that and was wondering if anyone else had the same issue? My problem is that getting someone locally (NC) to perform the un-fill is going to cost at least $750 locally (nothing covered by insurance) and that just gets out of the budget. Am I overreacting?

Your doctor would know better than anyone on here. I think they'd need to u fill it before they remove it.

I had my revision over 3 weeks ago and I did not have an unfill prior to my surgery. In addition, I was only on a liquid diet for 2 days prior to the surgery. Hope this helps!

I haven't had my band to sleeve revision surgery yet, but had to have my band emptied earlier this year due to complications.

Good luck to you!

I had mine unfilled a month before surgery. I was throwing up everything and was getting ready to take a trip to Colorado where the altitude change played havoc with my band the last time I'd gone.

So the surgeon thought it would be better to unfill it so I could stop throwing up.

I didn't have to get mine unfilled but I did as I too was going on trip to Colorado.
