Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums

Revision weight loss surgery after weight regain, complications, or a failed procedure. Revisions from LAP-BAND, sleeve, or bypass.

  1. At first i was upset cuz now i have to pay $14,500 for the sleeve revision in the same surgery. Shouldnt there be somewhat of a discount since im already under anesthesia and ins is covering that? Anyway. Trying to see it as glass half full. Paying will give me more of an incentive to follow the rules and be successful since im investing hard earned money. Potential July 18th surgery date!!!!!! 3. Hey guys. I am new to the forum. I had my band in 2006 and initially had great success. I went from 185 to 130 but then started vomiting. They loosened the band completely and I have gained most of my weight back and am miserable. Recently started having bad pain behind my sternum. Had an endo done last Friday and I have a class C Esophageal erosion (class d is the worst). He sent me to his bariatric surgeon friend who I am seeing tomorrow. He suggested the band be removed since it is causing me to vomit daily (thus eroding my esophagus). I want to talk to the surgeon about revising band to sleeve and I am so excited for that possibility....and I am soooo ready to sto…

  5. Hello all, I had my lap band placed back in march of 2007 when it was all the rage and no proven long term research. I went to surgery at 283, and managed to drop to an all time low of 220 within 10 months. I spent the next 9 years battling with this lapband and all the CRAP that came with it. I remember feeling like I had hit rock bottom when I couldnt even swallow my own saliva, but was slowly seeing the scale creep up. Today I am right back to 274, which is NOT my highest post surgery weight. (I would have never guessed that 9 years ago) Any how about a year ago, June 2015, I decided something had to give and started seeing a new Dr. about my options. I honestly…

  6. Hello All, 16 years ago at the tender age of 19, I had the, now disgraced, Vertical Banded Gastroplasty procedure. Although I lost weight, I started throwing up 3-5 days a week for hours on end within two months of the surgery and have been that way ever since. 16 years later, I have all fake teeth (natural teeth can't stand that level of acid), am on huge doses of Nexium, and have serious esophageal problems, which could lead to cancer in the future. Also, it is REALLY terrible to throw up that often, and it really effects my quality of life. I also didn't maintain the weight loss, although I have been on Weight Watchers for a few months now, and have lost 45 pound…

  7. Anyone know of UHC's policy on revision surgery in Florida? I was banded in 2008, self pay. Starting weight 226lbs, lowest weight 162lbs. I felt great. In 2012 I had a baby and throughout the pregnancy did very well. Never had any issues whatsoever, didn't even get an adjustment the entire pregnancy. When I gave birth everything changed, suddenly my and was too tight. I paid to have an adjustment made to get some relief. In 2013 I paid for another adjustment to now begin the process of getting myself back to pre-pregnancy band level of 5.75 cc's. Struggled for years and in Feb of 2016 ended up in the hospital because my doctor couldn't take me in for an emergency adjust…

  8. I haven't had a lapband in four years, and for some horrible reason I have regained the weight (not all) despite eating well and exercising vigorously. Therefore, I want to get the sleeve. However, my surgeon has said that it's a 50/50 gamble - 50% don't have ANY weight loss and 50% do. This really shocked me!!!! I do not want a bypass, but he said that's 100% going to work. So scared!??

Hello. I started this process about a month ago with the idea in my head of doing the gastric sleeve. Unfortunately, due to my chronic GERD and vomitting, ive developed Barretts esophagus and the sleeve is contraindicated. Im really unsure about getting the bypass. I have heard horror stories of hair loss, extreme malnutrition and Vitamin deficiency ( im anemic to begin with so this is very concerning to me). I know my band has to come out but im terrified if I dont do something else I will balloon up to my pre band weight or higher. Can anyone share their experience and tips on recovery if i decide to do it. Thanks so much

  10. Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to this site. I’m having a Revision from RNY to RNY 08/15/16 making my current pouch of 8 oz (1 cup) to a 1.5 oz pouch. Due to enlarged stoma of 3.5 centimeters big. My surgeon told me that I may not lose as much weight as before. Because must people who had revision lose little to no weight, but the issues will be fix. I don’t understand how I will not loss weight with a new smaller pouch. As long, as I eat healthy, watch portion size, exercise, stay motivated and have a great support system. Which I do. Can someone offer their opinion or been through this situation their self? Hi. I have had 6 years of nightmares with my band. Everything everyone has experienced but GERD the most annoying. Even wound up with aspiration pneumonia. I am looking to get approval for revision but have the 6 month diet requirement right now from insurance. Anyway, I'd love to hear others experiences with this particular revision and specifically, did you experience weight loss that you didn't with the band. Thanks for the help!

I've been following this forum for a while but this is my first post. I was banded in 2006 and everything was great for a while. I lost about 125 lbs and kept it off for almost 6 years. Then I started having days where my band was too tight and I couldn't eat anything, and if I did eat, I couldn't keep it down. Other days I could eat with almost no restriction. I also started having terrible reflux, to the point I would sleep propped up and still wake up with acid coming out of my nose. Went to the doctor and found out my band had slipped. Took the Fluid out to let the band readjust. In that time I had several life changing events happen and I ate my feelings. I ended up …

I've been suffering from complications with my band for years. I finally got the nerve to go back and see my doc (after long term vomiting, reflux, pain, weight gain), and she and my surgeon suggested a revision to bypass. Has anyone done this? What have your results been like? How does eating differ? Worried that I may fail with bypass the same way as I did with the band. I have so many questions, and while the forums I've seen have been very helpful I'm seeking more specifics! Thank you : )

  16. Hi everyone.. I haven't been here for quite awhile, but I am now seriously considering revision surgery from my second llap-band to sleeve. My first band was put in in 2006. I initially lost 35 pounds but then plateaued there for years. In 2014, I had that band removed becauyse of band slippage and a new band was put in. Since then, I haven't lost any weight at all, and have gained about 15 pounds in all. My question is one of approval. I am not scheduled for revision surgery July 20th. Excited, scared, nervous are just a few words. I may have to have the procedure done in 2 surgeries and that stinks. I am over all this. My first band changed my life for the better and I want that again. My daughter is having sleeve surgery in less then 2 weeks so she's my focus right now, but all the emotions are making me crazy. I have an appointment with a doctor this Friday and have called another doctor to schedule a consultation. My main question is whether they made you go through all the requirements again and how long did the process take before you had a surgery date scheduled. In cases where you were denied were you given the reason as to why you were denied. Appreciate the help with this. Thank you.

  26. I had lap band surgery in 2011 and was very successful, going from about 244 to 157 at my lowest. Unfortunately I kept it off for about 5 minutes and slowly crept back up to where I was preop. I have emotional eating issues and I know that. I have seen a therapist the majority of the time since surgery. It's a constant battle and I'm so disgusted with myself for being back here again. My question is, should I even consider the revision to sleeve? Is there any reason to think I'd be more successful at keeping the weight off?? Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

  27. I am 3 months into my 6 month pre-op period. I met with the surgeon on Tuesday because I currently have a lapband I want revised. Given my diabetes (diagnosed 10/1/2015), my severe obstructive sleep apnea and being morbidly obese (361 lbs on Tuesday), I've been focused on gastric bypass (RNY). I thought for sure my doctor would recommend that as well. But I could tell from our meeting that he advocates for the sleeve. He says nearly 90% of the surgeries he'll do this year will be sleeve and that sleeve patients are less likely to have future complications and that their labs are "boring" because they don't have nutrient malabsorption issues like bypass patients. Now I'm t…

  29. Hi I'm researching getting a revision from a VSG to a MGB. I was sleeved in July 2010. I never experienced the "Honeymoon phase" and my weight loss was slow from the beginning. I was able to lose 80 lbs over two years with dieting and vigorous exercise, but now my weight is rapidly creeping back up. I have a few questions for those who went from a sleeve to a Mini Gastric Bypass. Did your surgeon resleeve you and then bypassed you or did he/she bypass you only. I watched a few revision videos from Dr. Rutledge and he doesn't recommend resleeving unless the sleeve is very large or deformed due to the increased risk of complications when resleeving. Had my plication 10/2010 and have regained my weight plus some:( I originally chose this surgery because it was less invasive & reversible. Now that I want to revise to Sleeve, I'm being told a couple of things: 1. The revision would require the undoing/removing of the sutures first, then doing the sleeve. That I might not be a candidate for a sleeve because of the previous plication (potential scarring & condition of stomach tissue from the sutures). But that he wouldn't know until he was in there? So I guess it really is not reversible? 2. The plication would remain in tact. The sleeve would be created/done from the inside of the suture line of the plica…

  33. Just want to get some feedback on how things are going for those that had revision from band to bypass (this is what I am going to be getting). What kind of progress are you making, how much weight have you lost since surgery? Loving it or hating it? Missing the band ? (I doubt I will ever miss mine) I keep hearing that weight loss is slower after revision vs those that had bypass first time around. When I talked to my psych about it when I had psych eval he said he does not believe this to be the case, which was pretty encouraging. I am not looking for fast weight loss but my weight loss has been always extremely slow to none, so I am nervous. Thank you for sharing
