Hi All, I was banded back in 2009 with a starting weight of 252lbs. In 3 years I was down to 149lbs. From 2012-2015 I got back up to the 200lb mark, yuck. I’ve had major food intolerances and heartburn ect. I had surgery for something else in 2015 and that surgeon took a look at my band and said “it doesn’t look right” so I’m suspect it has slipped. I was banded in 2006 (private pay) and thought I did fairly well going from 220lb to 150lb in the first year or so. Over the next 10 years, I had my third child and managed to maintain about a 55lb loss. I was and remain dedicated to work outs 4-5 days a week. However, I never felt like I ever found that "sweet spot" with my fills. I had to make a 14 hour round trip for fills and the surgeon I had was the least compassionate, most fat phobic person I've ever encountered. How he got into that line of work I'll never know. Hi all, I have had my band since 2003 and on October 3 I will be getting the revision to sleeve. I have heard weight loss is slower in revision patients than someone that was getting weight-loss surgery for the first time. Does anyone have experience with this and has it been accurate for you? I'm very short and I have about 50 pounds to lose. I maintained over 100 pound weight loss for all of those years. But I have been having band complications for many years now as well . Now the pounds are creeping back on.

Hey there folks. My name is Will. I'm 35 years old and In 2015 I had the gastric bypass sleeve. I have not lost the weight with that that I wanted to or hoped to. I have contacted a surgeon in my TN area and am going to the pre surgery seminar tomorrow night. Then I have my appt with the head nurse and surgeon on Friday. I'm hoping that he will say I can qualify for the bypass. I'm not happy with my current situation. I'm having stomache pain and discomfort and a lot of diarrhea. Can you share your experience with insurance approving your revision surgery? I have a lap band (2009) and have a consult 9/15 to have it revised to a sleeve. Cigna is my insurance company. Also, how long from your consult to your surgery date?

Hi I was wondering if anyone had Cigna Connect with a band revising to Gastric bypass? Did they make you go thru the 3 month supervised diet? What if it was due to heartburn or a slip of t the band Long story short I've had a band approximately 4 yrs lost like 20 lbs despite following diet plan and exercise always hungry can eat whatever and get heartburn off and on but if I tighten the band it's constant I want to get bypass but remove the band at the same time Hoping not to have to go thru 3 month deal but can't find anything on this situation. I'm sort of preparing to go to Mexico to avoid it.

I had a Vertical Banded Gastroplasty in 1994. I have had problems over the years that have been increasing as the time goes by such as Acid reflux, vomiting, severe abdominal pain followed by massive diarrhea and lately, constant pain in my stomach area behind the rib cage. I can't eat anything solid now and keep it down so I am on protein shakes and yogurt to get my nutrition. have an appointment with my primary care physician on Wednesday for this reason and am wondering if she will order an endoscopy or should I suggest it. Just got the call yesterday my revision to RNY has been approved! Im super excited, my coordinator called and gave me a surgery date of July 17th!

I am about 5 years out from having my sleeve. I did not lose the weight that I would have thought I would lose. The doc even had me do a few tests to see if I had something going on in my esophagus and gut. Everything was good. I recently went to a new Bariatric surgeons office. Upon talking to them I am being told that I am one of those who bc of diabetes I am having hard time shedding the lbs. I should have gotten a bi pass. Because I am diabetic I am eligible to have a revision. Most likely a bipass. I am going thru the motions, being tested and have 6 months to make up my mind. Is there any one else out there who may be going thru this as well?

So I was denied twice to have my sleeve surgery after my band was removed in June due to complications/slippage. My surgeon was on the phone with the insurance surgeon and apparently they were arguing - I already hit the lifetime limit of one surgery 13 years ago, and technically had TWO surgeries (removal) that were paid for and they wouldn't revise me. I was banded in 2013. My starting weight was 226 and my lowest was 149. I have had nothing but problems with my band since the beginning. Back and forth to the doctor, a lot of discomfort and pain and just a rough quality of life the past few years with eating. For 2 years, I was a consistent 155, but could not seem to lose any more weight and the number this last year has crept up to 170! I want to get a revision, but I'm afraid I'm not "obese enough" to have it. Any help on this topic would be so appreciated. I'm terrified to have nothing and regain all my weight so i continue living like this....please help.

Sleeved July 2012 in Mexico with Dr Garcia. My BMI was about 37 y insurance wouldn't cover surgery due to not having any co-morbidities. I've had a pretty bad 8 months with complications from my sleeve and never actually progressed to solid food. Here's my backstory: I got the realize band in 2009 - self pay unfortunately, due to a stupid anti obesity clause with my insurance policy at the time. I was relatively successful - my starting weight was 335 and I got down exactly 100 pounds over the next 2 years. Those who say this is the easy way out is clueless. I've struggled just as much losing weight after surgery as I did before surgery. I can't lose weight no matter what my medical team and I try. I follow the diets suggestions from the doctors and dietitians. I get my fluids and my vitamins. My husband and I got into a fight and he called me a failure yesterday. My doctor is suggesting a revision from my sleeve to the duodenal switch. That scares me and everyone around me says not to do it. I don't want to go through another surgery and fail again. I just want to cry but I am empty. I have no more to give right now. I am at a loss. I've tried it all.

Hi, anyone here get a revision from sleeve to gastric bypass? I was sleeved in 2010 and lost 120lb. Now I'm up 35lb but would love to lose 50lb. My body's metabolism is the way it was before the sleeve (I still have restriction) but can't lose a substantial amount despite regular exercise and watching diet. I had to have my Band removed as an emergency procedure. My band was to tight. I went to my Dr and the removed a tiny bit of fluid and I was ok for two days but then I couldn't even keep water down and I began throwing up. I went to bed and woke up first thing in the morning having to throw up and all I threw up was blood. This was back in August of 2014. Day 6 and I'm feeling human again. Man what a ROUGH recovery. Between the complications with my surgery/revision, traveling 14 hours to get home, and having a massive cold and horrific cough/bronchitis.. I really wasn't sure how much more I could take. Hello everyone, so glad to have found this forum. Am 2 weeks post Op and in general, my recovery is excellent. However, am having problems drinking liquids!! I manage about 1 glass of water in 2-3 hours.. Really trying hard but it dies nit work too well. I am introducing natural coconut water, no sugar, and this goes a bit better. But still, 250 ml of it takes a whole day.. So far I lost 16 pounds, quite happy with it. My bowels work every two days, which I find quite OK. I am basically here to get some support for the long road ahead. Specially with the drinking, as I understand (and also according to my surgeon) that this is the most crucial part. Has anyone had a sleeve to bypass revision? I have reflux really bad and am told that will help. I had surgery done 3.5 years ago, unfortunately in the last 6 months I have also started gaining weight. Can I expect to lose weight if I do this? Also trying to figure out how to get insurance to pay as it is to relieve the reflux, weight loss is secondary.

Fellow DS fam..... I keep reading about sipping water. I was very much in shock when I could take a fairly average drink of water. When I had my gastric bypass and took a large "gulp" of water it was like NOPE and would come back up. With my DS I can take a normal drink of water...just wondering if I was alone in this. I saw my lil pouch whenever they did the x-ray to make sure no holes or leakage, but I have still shocked. Could it possibly be because I am still on the "liquid" diet per say? I had the RNY 16 yrs ago and lost 140 lbs. I started out at 388 lbs and now weigh 270 as I have gained about 30 lbs back. I never reached my goal weight and am struggling to lose any more. Hello Everyone, I'll spare you the whole drawn out story, but the short version is this: I had lap band surgery pretty young 12 years ago. I lost 100% of excess weight, had reconstructive surgeries, was in treatment for an eating disorder and gained it all back. I'm fully recovered and figuring out what's next. I have worked with my surgeon with the band and it isn't useful anymore. Any fills at all give me HORRIBLE heartburn and even without a fill, food gets stuck every meal. I am that warped person that kept my band after removal! So far, so good with everything. This was the best decision that I could have made. I can now eat healthier food without that stuck feeling and I don't have the acid and back pain issues that I used to have! It took removing 60-70% of my stomach for me to feel normal again. BEST. I had a revision on my bypass that was done 15 years ago. I had gained about 50 pounds and didn't want to gain anymore. I have lost in the last 3 weeks, 13 pounds... which was all in the first 10 days and none since. I am keeping to my diet, eating only about 800 calories a day... so, I hope it picks up. Let me tell you my story real quick. I had Gastric Sleeve 8/14/2014. It was a real success SW: 387 and I lost 122 pounds in about 6 months. I kept it off for another six months, but after I lost my sister and got custody of her son, I became depressed. Hello, I'm in the I'm in the process of getting insurance approval for a revision surgery. I was sleeved two years ago. Did any of you face any complications with your insurance regarding the revision? Can anybody tell me if the size of a sleeved stomach is a standard thing or does it vary from person to person? I had my band removed three months ago and gained back 21lbs in that time - so am worried that my sleeve will be bigger than a standard sleeve because I dont have that much weight to lose. I just dont want to be able to eat larger portion sizes than I could with the band as I know that is what kept my weight off for 10 years. Hello All, I have had my band removed. Pre removal I lost @ 25 pounds and stayed there for about 2 years but also didn't continue with support or follow up with my doctor. Had been approved for both removal and revision but there is an issue with "acid reflux". So on hold for GSV. Question: Has anyone who had to wait not been able to complete their process and was it related to acid reflux? I am almost 3 weeks out since the removal and this is creating a whole bunch of other issues...no band, no restrictions, no stopping. To revert back so quickly. Support groups don't exist for the limbo state. Any suggestions?

Hi there, it's been a very long time since I've been on the boards. However I had gastric sleeve surgery in September 2014. It has been very successful, I've had virtually no complications. I only need to lose 20lbs to be at my goal weight. However, I had acid reflux prior to having this surgery and for whatever reason, the person that did my endoscope prior to surgery ok'd me for the sleeve and I stupidly thought that once I lost weight and was eating right, the acid would somehow go away. I find myself making a correction to my weight loss journey. I originally chose the Lapband because I thought it would be a better fit for me. I really didn't think this through. I wasn't told about the very long needle used to fill the band. I am terribly afraid of needles. You see my problem with this. I also encountered a Nurse practioner that was brutal and injured my esophagus, eating was had enough. I have chosen the sleeve to alleviate the hunger cravings. I will have enough problems controlling my chocolate cravings.
