I have a question and I'm hoping to get some help on this. I have BCBSNC and I was looking into doing a revision from the Lapband to Gastric Sleeve. My Lapband is leaking fluid...I think. I haven't confirmed it but I have gotten 3 fills in the last 6 months and it is always at 5cc after the fill. So, that was my conclusion. I would like to know if the requirements for the surgery are the same since it is a revision? The requirements for bariatric with BCBSNC is 12 months (Long time). BTW I have gained so much weights its crazy. The band was working fine and it just stopped. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone. I'm Scheduled for lap-band removal Feb 5th. I should be having a revision to the sleeve around 3 months after that (pending insurance approval). I am just curious about the recovery time from lap-band removal. I'd also like to know what you're post op diet from lap-band removal was. Thanks!

I am just wondering something. I had the plication/lp band to sleeve surgery about 1 year and 2 months ago. but ive still been having cramping on the left side. it is also in the back it feels like a pulled bone/ and or muscle. Ive been to a bunch of doctors for this. i had my gallbladder removed recently and also was told that it may be some abdominal muscle or stitch. Ive been dealing with this for a while now. does anyone have any advice or answers here?

I am reaching out to anyone who can share help in getting Gastric Sleeve approved by Humana Medicare after an emergency Lap Band Removal with a low BMI 30. Are there Any Advocates that can help with a denial and now trying to Appeal? This is just not fair. I am sure there are a lot of Lapband removals Out there. Medicare guidelines are not up to the times of all these problems that are going on with failed Lapband and medical issues causing patients. Thanks for any feedback. BTW they told e to reapply when I reached 35... I have 3 of the comorbids and my band was successful too for me for 5 years.

To give a little bit of background on me, I was banded in February 2010, had ok results the first year. By the time the 2nd year came around I was already throwing up most meals, I couldn't eat anything that was not a slider food. So in order to lose weight I had to basically live off protein shakes or not eat which isn't sustainable. So my first year I lost 60 lb every year after that I gained and lost the same 40-lb over and over. Started researching a revision surgery to a sleeve could not get any insurance to cover it so this last July I went to Cabo Mexico and had my revision done. I'm considering having a revision surgery from lap band to the gastric sleeve. I really want to have the procedure done in Mexico but after the fear of having the surgery in another country comes the out of pocket cost for this particular surgery. Is there anyone out there who's experience both?

Hi everyone. I had the sleeve done in 2012. My weight loss was good (not great) and had crept up in the last year. I had severe GE Reflux that could not be managed with medicine so I opted for Bypass on Nov 17. At my two week post op appointment, surgeon started me on soft food. I hate eating! My tummy feels so yucky and I vomit every time ( sometimes violently). I drink 1 - 1/2 Premier Protein drinks a day but I can barely get them down - now they just taste awful and I can’t tolerate the taste. I’m living off soup/ thinned yogurt but know I’m not getting the amount of Protein I need. Dr is taking back in for endoscope next week to see if there is an internal problem. An…

Never thought that I would be staring over but here I am. I had the gastric sleeve, hiatal hernia repair and gallbladder removal done in January 2013. Got down to 159 from 225 (I'm 5'3.5"). I never hit goal of 140. Fast forward to 2015, I started to slowly gain weight, and then I got pregnant and gain more weight. As of today, I'm up to 210. I am considering a revision to the ds or rny. I'm looking for some information on those who have had a revision from sleeve to bypass. I'm 5 months post-op from my vsg surgery and my stomach has severe stenosis and two strictures along with gastroparesis. They are unable to treat it with dilation so I'm going in on Monday to have a revision. I just don't know what to expect. Is there anyone out there with any advice? i had the lapband Nov 2010. I absolutely hated it. Initially I did alright ( lost 40 lbs) with it but over time I was vomiting almost daily and the weight slowly creeped back on. About a month ago I had all the fluid removed and had some tests done. Luckily there's no damage but my stomach is irritated/inflamed. And I'm now hungry ALL THE TIME! I have initiated the revision process, but I had no idea that it was going to be done in 2 stages. 1st is the band removal with a 3 month recovery time, then the sleeve. I haven't posted much about this. I'm still kind of waiting to figure out what the game plan is. Long story short, about a month ago ( 4 months post op) I started vomiting daily it's gradually turned into vomiting five or six times after EVERYTHING I eat or drink. For the last week I've been on liquids only because I have a really bad stricture at the top of my sleeve. It's not caused from my sleeve surgery, but from my lap band. When I had my revision we knew there was a whole bunch of scar tissue and he did his best to clean it up but the scar tissue has rehardened and created adhesions around my stomach that have caused two structures. Hi! help!!!! i am new to this group. I am hoping for my sleeve revision this December. I had the Lapband emergency removed in August and keep gaining :(. Metabolism shot! I haven’t eaten any Pasta breadeating the same just more., not much.. less exercising because I am recovering and depressed from having it removed . Banded in 2009 went from 252lbs to 149lbs in 3 years. Then I started having problems....... Food intolerance Heartburn Suspected slippage However I began a battle with infertility at the time and didn't care about my band even a little. Now that my son is old enough I need to get my band taken care of. I have a consult Friday for a gastric sleeve revision. I'm a little nervous about the whole idea. Anyone else in a similar situation. Oh and I've gained like 50lbs back. I am currently bouncing back and forth between 195lbs and 200lbs.

I think my band procedure was about 45 minutes. I know a lot of the length depends on complexity which depends on what they find when they get in there, but any stories would be appreciated!

Hi there! I am scheduled for Revision from lap band to gastric bypass on Dec. 12th. I am sooo nervous! I'm self paying so I'm going to Mexico, alone, for the surgery. Can anyone give me some information on how you are doing after your revision, like the recovery period and how much you have lost. Hi ? Wondering if anyone has experienced hypoglycemia after surgery? I had my VSG done September 25/2016 with severe GERD which prompted the surgeon to do a revision to RNY on August 28/2017. From that surgery they perforated my bowel and had to go back in for emergency surgery then after that a large abcess formed which resulted in needing a tube inserted surgically into my pelvic area to drain. Then from that I formed an infection from one of the incision sights which they had to reopen and then have packing to heal it . I'm happy all that trauma is over. I had band for six years. Had revision surgery April 21st 2017. I'm still on full clear liquids but I am thirsty. I have tried broth, Gatorade, jello and coffee. Does anybody have ideas? I am 67 yrs, 9 months

I am getting a bad over my sleeve. I have gained weight back since my sleeve back in 2011. I was told the band revision would be the best solution. Have anyone else know of anyone who have done this? I have heard of gastric bypass to band.

I just had my band revised to a sleeve. I am day 3 post op and soooooo nauseous ? I can barely eat and my belly is so upset. I threw up yesterday, that was awful. Today I managed a few sips of the protein drink and a few sips of water. I feel like I am never going to feel better. Please tell me it gets better Ughhhhh

Hi there!! This is my first post here. I am scheduled for revision from lap band to gastric bypass Dec 12th in Tijuana with Dr Coravala in Angeles hospital. Has anyone else used him? Also, can anyone give me more information on how you are doing after the revision? I’m very concerned because I know it has a higher risk of complications.

I had very mild heartburn prior to my gastric sleeve. I wanted a bypass based on my high BMI but my surgeon was really pushy about the sleeve being a perfectly viable option even with my heartburn. He fixed a hiatal hernia when he did the sleeve. Heartburn was controlled for a year and a half, however it got so bad I was strangling on acid every night and 3-4 days a week I would wake up with acid coming out of my nose. I was taking two to three acid blockers and sleeping almost sitting up on 5 pillows. My surgeon did a bunch of tests including an EGD and gallbladder tests. Stated there was no hiatal hernia and no signs of abnormal gallbladder-function. He insisted…

I have been trying hard for the past several months to try and lose my regain. I have struggled a LOT. well, now things are starting to make sense. Saw my surgeon, had EGD. My GERD-which was pretty dang bad pre-op- never really went away after surgery. Now it's BAD. I also have sleeve stretch and although this part of it could probably be fixed with some weight loss, the GERD is significant enough that I am once again at risk for my Barrett's returning. That was fast! I was approved on the first try through BCBS. Revison date scheduled with Dr. Caruana (Buffalo, NY) for November 20th. Original surgery was open RNY Gastric Bypass, and now I believe he is performing a revision to the distal small bowel bypass by shortening the common channel to add some malabsorbtion into the game. They did not do this when I had my surgery 15 years ago, and a lot of research has been done since with the hormones centered in this length of bowel and weight loss. For those that have had revision surgery, what did the timeline look like for you - from reaching out to your Bariatric program to surgery? I have Kaiser insurance and reached out to my bariatrics program last week. I had my band removed last year by their doctors, but no other tool placed. On my call, They said they would check if I needed to start at the beginning of their program or not. Then they got back to me with a date for a phone appointment with the doctor that took out my band last year. I trying to wrap my head around when I may be scheduled for the surgery and what they'll make me do prior to surgery.

After many miscarriages I finally had a baby 4 years later (after 2 round of IVF. I had a revision from Lap-Band to Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass on September 25, 2017. I had the Lap-Band surgery in 2009 and at first it was successful. Over time I begin to have issues with my band causing severe reflux and I battled pneumonia and bronchitis on a regular basis. I was told I was aspirating into my lungs because of my Lap-Band. Just received notification my insurance has approved my revision from band to RNY! I'm so excited and nervous! I called my mother to tell her I was approved and she says to me, who do you want to take care of the kids if you die? That sure made me depressed! But I'm going to stay positive that I will be fine[emoji4] not long now till November 6th!!

I had a sleeve almost 7 years ago my highest weight was 356lbs went down to 169 as my lowest and although I have to admit that I didn't quite loose it the way I was supposed to or: drinking coffee and smoking and working out everyday... my weight after 2 yrs started to creep up. I was still happy even at 185. Long story short I had another child 5 years later and my weight went back up to 224 and after baby went back down to about 210. I had gastric sleeve surgery 5/20/14, weighed in at 250 and was very successful. I lost 75 pounds, felt great, stuck to most of the rules and had a new start on life at 44 years old. Now, 3 years later, my acid reflux is back in full swing with regurgitation waking me up from sleep. I got to my bariatric surgeon who does an Endoscopy and finds a hiatal hernia. I have had many complications from my sleeve surgery a year ago. After 11 endoscopy with dilation, 2 stents and 5 second opinions I was told a bypass is the only way to go. Has anyone had a bypass due to complications? I haven't ever progressed past soft food and am malnourished as I can hardly get my vitamins or medications in due to two closures at the ge junction. Any info on someone with similar issue would be helpful.

About 4 years ago I made what I thought was going to be the best decision and had gastric bypass surgery. Everything went great! At the time I was about 260 and within the first year lost close to 90 pounds. I was feeling healthy, fit and excited about life. Slowly over the next couple years life got back in the way. I am getting the revision from behind to a sleeve. Does anyone know what the time frame and process is to getting this done. I was told first they remove the lap band and then after a month or two they can do the sleeve. I would like to hear if anyone else had this done.

Hi Everyone! I had a healthy babygirl in October. I have been breastfeeding and I have gained so much weight POST PARTUM. During my pregnancy I only gained 11 pounds (baby was nearly 6) so really only 5 pounds I was back to prepregnancy weight 5 days after being discharged from the hospiatal. I have since gained 15 pounds. My question is has anyone had a sleeve revision post partum? I am looking for real expectiations before I make an appointment with a surgeon. I am near the end of my breastfeeding journey (not by choice).

Hi all, I had my Lapband revision with Gastric Bypass on 9/5/17. Thankful I only had to spend one night in the hospital. Walking good since the day of surgery, and have slowly worked up to walking outside around our block twice a day! I had the gastric sleeve in December 2012. I lost 100 lbs but have since gained back 55 Lbs. I have extreme GERD, have been hospitalized for Ulcers. i went and met with the doctor and he recommended doing the bypass to alleviate my GERD and other issues. i am now waiting on my ins approval. I had my lapband removed in June of 2016 at Kaiser in South Sacramento, California. After then gaining about 40 lbs along with some severe back issues, I have reached back out to Kaiser's Bariatric department about revision surgery. In particular RNY.
