I just received my approval from my insurance and my surgery date to go from a Sleeve to Gastric Bypass due to my Acid Reflux. Has anyone had the procedure done due to Reflux as well? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I just had an endoscope procedure to view my stomach. I had the Gastroplasty surgery 25 years ago and am seeking to have the bypass revision done. My Doctor just informed me that there is only about 2-3cm to work with and with best case he could do it leaving my stomach about the size of a marble as opposed to the size of an egg which is the normal size post surgery. Worst case scenario he gets in there and involved and can't get out without removing my stomach. My question is to anyone who has had this revision with the marble sized outcome how can one possibly eat enough to be ok let alone stay alive? Hey all.. new to this app. Love it and all the support I see! I am on the fence and looking to see if anyone has had a revision from sleeve to bypass? Since my sleeve I have developed the worst heartburn. I had it before but not to this extent. My doctor didn’t tell me that the sleeve will make your gerd worse. It’s to the point that I eat only what doesn’t hurt. In addition to that I can’t eat anything with flour. Horrible stomach ache. I’ve been allergy tested for gluten bcus I was SURE that’s what is was but turns out I’m not. So I know enough to stay away from carbs.. bread, rice and anything with flour. Hi Baripals! So I originally had VSG surgery in October 2012. At 253 lbs. the morning of weight in, I was pre-diabetic and had PCOS among other things. Fast forward almost 6 years, my doctor & I have made the decision to have a revision. I had initially lost about 95 lbs. and kept it off for 4 years until I had my son July of 2016. Even after I had him, I had only gained about 20 lbs. during pregnancy. I had a lap-band placed in 2006. Lost about 50 lbs, then gained it all back and more. In recent years, had all sorts of problems and just wanted it out. While looking into getting it out, learned that I could do a revision and was told about SIPS. My name is Whitney Williams I'm 30 years old and a past lap band patient. I had some great success with my lap band when I first had it put in. I lost a lot of weight and things were looking good then all the sudden my band slipped and I had to have surgery again to replace the band. At the time of fixing my band I was just starting out my student teaching which made it a little harder to go to regular appointments like I should have. Hello! I had lap-band installed in April 2009. Lost about 50 lbs total and have since gained back about 30. So net loss = 20 lbs. That's okay, though, because that weight was the difference between being mobile or not (weight at time of surgery was 382 - I'm now in the 358-363 range). The advice I got after the band was not to eat rice, bread or pasta for 6 months after surgery and to go in for periodic fills of the band. On March 28th I had my lap band removed. I was just shy of 10 years of having it. My surgeon said that it had started to embed itself into my liver so I am so glad I decided to get a revision when I did. What I did not expect and am wondering if it is normal is the intense pain where my port was. The pain radiates all the way around to my back when I walk or stand. The only time I find relief as if I am in a reclined position either on a chair or in bed. I'm waiting for insurance approval for revision from sleeve to bypass due to GERD. My acid reflux was tested and it is severe (the worst my surgeon has ever seen). I am currently maxed out on 4 different meds, prescription and otc. The refux NEVER stops. Is there anyone who had the same revision and is still having to take a PPI after bypass?

Just off Lap band to Gastric By-Pass revision - surgery 3/5/18, discharged 3/7/18, and have been sleeping many hours in the day, but not for long periods. Take 3-4 naps during day and then only sleep for a couple of hours during the night - have others experienced something similar? I have been walking, and I tried just to stay up all day and then sleep at night, but can't focus on anything and am pretty irritable. My temp's been @96.1. No aches or pains otherwise normal scarring but get sleepy all the time.

Hi there!! This is my first post here. I am scheduled for revision from lap band to gastric bypass Dec 12th in Tijuana with Dr Coravala in Angeles hospital. Has anyone else used him? Also, can anyone give me more information on how you are doing after the revision? I’m very concerned because I know it has a higher risk of complications.

Has anyone had a gastric bypass revision? I have read (although not much is available) about gastric bypass revisions. I was wondering if anyone has had a RNY converted to a VSG. It would be similar to a duodenal switch procedure, but without the biliopancreatic diversion. I already have way too much malabsorption and do not want any more. I have such severe postprandial pain and nausea, that I am developing an aversion to all food. I see my surgeon tomorrow, but am up all night wondering/worrying about tomorrow (surgeon is great, but a bit of a meany)

Good morning i had my sleeve back in 2014 and lost 60% of my excess weight . So nowhere near “my” target. Over that 4 years , I was careful recording food and disciplined about protein , then veg etc but despite being about 1400 calories daily, I just did not lose the balance. I am 5 ft tall ( just) because of GERD, I had revision to bypass 8 weeks ago. The surgery has successfully resolved that , thank goodness i am now eating about 700 calories a day with 60-70 g of protein but the weight loss is still really slow. In 2 months, i have lost 16 pounds. What is the experience of others who had revision? thanks for your input

I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass 12 years ago. Started at 340lb, lost 100lbs and have since regained 50lbs back. I want to get a revision / conversion but unsure what to get . I heard about sleeves, minis, and duodenal switch, but i dont know the pros and cons of each- especially since I already had gastric bypass. I really want to hear from people that had a RYGB and got a second surgery. What did you get the second time? why did you chose that? Is the 2nd surgery result any different than the 1st? Im having a tough time finding information on revision / conversion surgeries. I need information. thanks!

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has any success with getting a revision with BCBS TX! I am hoping to have a revision in April. I have my first doctors appointment in March. My insurance does not require a waiting period. The only qualifications is BMI over 30, psych eval, and to prove that the band has failed. When I talked to the office, they need to prove that my band has slipped, eroded, or the port is no longer where it should be. I would love to hear from anyone who has had success with this insurance!

Praise the Lord, I'm 6 months post op, and very thankful my diabetes was reversed as well as severe reflux I had prior to surgery! My weight loss has been slow with many 3 week stalls, and my surgeon recommends I have to increase the protein intake, as I slacked off of protein shakes the last few months. (Just got tired of them). I'm back to having a protein shake of 30 gm. plus what I get in foods to hopefully increase wt. loss & slow down hair loss. Overall, done well down 50 lbs. & Hgb A1C is 5.4 (also off cholesterol med. since surgery, but lab levels creeping back up, keeping a watch on it)

My doctor call me and is sending my case as urgent to insurance due to stomach pains I've been having and an egd positive for Barrett's Esophagus. I didn't have it before my original surgery. I’m meeting with surgeon on Tuesday to talk about revision to rny. Question for those how have Medicaid (WellCare) did you have todo the 6 month diet? I have reflux and hiatal hernia that has to be repaired also.

I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday 2/27. I had lap band 10 years ago and over time, it has not worked out for me. I am having revision to RNY. I am wondering if anyone has tips for travel 3 weeks post surgery. I have to go. I work for a government contractor and I have to attend a 4 day certification boot-camp for work. I know it is best not to do this, but I must. So of course, I am worried about lifting luggage, etc. I will just have to pack light and weight everything to stay under 10-15 lbs. I am also wondering how to do soft/puree at that stage away form home. I have thought of taking a mini blender or just sticking to shakes? Any suggestions? Thank you in advance…

I guess a support person, only my fiancé knows I am doing this, but he doesn’t have weight issues, so I am feeling alone. Will I likely need all of the same pre- testing ( endoscopy, ekg, psychiatric screening etc) before having my band out and sleeve done? My dr does them at the same time.

I just passed my 3 anniversary since my gastric sleeve. I really wish I was posting my success. I had lost aa minimal amount of weight in the first 8 months, and have slowly gained back to just above my surgery day weight. I was told by my 1st clinic that I am that the 1% that doesn't lose. Shortly after the sleeve I fell and damaged my knee and needed surgery. And then I had an icky gyn issue also needing surgery. Those problems put difficult barriers to being active. So, I've been on here for awhile - and originally had gastric sleeve surgery in March of 2016. After my original surgeon made the sleeve too big (words from my current surgeon after having an upper GI study) and me gaining weight, and not loosing any - we both agreed I need a revision. DESPITE the failure of the sleeve being the surgeons fault, I need to still go through insurance hoops, the psych visit, 6 months weigh ins, nutritionist,. etc. So I have 2 questions: 1. Has anyone switched from a sleeve to a bypass, and what were your results? 2. Has anyone needed any type of revision and needed to go through the entire insurance process again? Thanks…

Thinking about a revision from Band to Sleeve at OCC. I was very happy with OCC for my band and although it did well 8 years ago, 2 kids later it isn't working it may have slipped, I am not entirely sure). Anyhoo, does anyone have experience with this? Wondering what the costs might be and how long I will have to be out of work. I have a semi-physical job (massage therapist) so I need to factor that into my decision. Thanks!

Hello All- I am scheduled for Sleeve Revision to Mini-Bypass on Sept 29th. I do not have enough vacation time to take extended time off, so I will be returning to work in 5 days. I am having my surgery with Dr. Ilan. Any tips, advice, input, or expectations you would like to share? I took off 2 weeks with my sleeve and was bored to tears after about 5 days. So, I'm confident I'll be fine to return to my desk job so quickly. Also, it has been rumored that my weight loss will much slower with the second surgery than it was with the Sleeve. Im going from a sleeve to MGB june 19th with Dr Illan in mexico. I am wondering, for those of you that are revisions, if and when did you start actuallu feeling hunger sensations again after surgery? Like real hunger pains not head hunger. TIA. [emoji5]

Moving forward in the revision process. I will have my Lap-band removed Feb 5th. Unfortunately my surgeon will not do revision at the same time. I have to wait 3 months for my stomach to completely heal (according to their office). During that time I'll be on my 3 month medically monitored diet. Yesterday I met with the dr, the nutritionist, and had my psych evaluation done....and all was good. Now I have to get cleared from a cardiologist which they're scheduling, and have a pulmonary function test. I had the sleeve and hiatal hernia repair done 4/7/15. I lost 74lbs in 5 months. I have had GERD since 1999, and I told my surgeon at my consultation. He suggested the sleeve and I trusted him to know the right procedure for my situation. The first 6 months were ok with slight heartburn. After about 6 months the heartburn came back full force and worse. In 2017 I had 3 EGD's, 2 Upper GI's and the LINX procedure with a repair for my hiatal hernia again. I had lapband surgery 11 years ago. I had moderate success but not nearly what I thought I would have. I failed the band or it failed me. Maybe a little of both. I am considering revision surgery but I just don’t know. What if I “fail” again. Not sure I could mentally or physically handle it. I’ve seen people have greater success once having the revision surgery. Question for anyone on here that recently went through a revision from band to bypass. How is recovery? I have read many positive recoveries for bypass, but is there a difference when it includes a revision from band? Some people were ready to conquer the world at one week, others needed 6 weeks to get back into work. Obviously different work duties will dictate, but how long until you felt you could go about a normal day following surgery? I am having surgery on February 8th, a thursday, and had hoped to be up for light duties the following Monday.

Hi All. One week to go til surgery! I just need to pass my echo and stress test for my heart. I had a lapband that was taken out 3 years ago. Now I am going in for the gastric bypass. Did any of you have any problems with the switch from the lapband to the gastric bypass? I have been told by the surgeon there may be adhesions/scar tissue.

I had lap band surgery in May 2017. I have a full band, no restriction, and have lost no weight since the procedure. I switched to a new doctor who seems to think the band has slipped and we have discussed revision to the bypass or sleeve. I am just wondering if I will have to go through the 6 months of nutritional visits, psych exam, etc...again since I just completed all of those requirements about a year ago. I am currently looking at having a revision from gastric bypass done 11 years ago to DS. After meeting with the surgeon yesterday it has left me feeling very confused as to what to do. The whole thing about 3 monthly blood tests and the nutritional stuff leading to being very ill is worrying plus what I want to to be restricted in what I can eat, would a revision to a sleeve do that, is the DS the best option for me.
