Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums

Revision weight loss surgery after weight regain, complications, or a failed procedure. Revisions from LAP-BAND, sleeve, or bypass.

  1. Started by mcfluffington,

HI I had a weight regain and I have seen doctors with all kinds of suggestions for revision surgery. Has anyone heard of RNY to Single anastomosis duodenal switch. Or had this? I know revision after gastric bypass is unusual. Just looking for information.

  2. Hi all. I am new here but wanted to say I appreciate having this forum to have a place to ask questions and get support. I had lapband in 2011 and lost 125lbs and actually kept it off for 5 years, then got pregnant and band prolapsed and have had trouble ever since. Gained nearly all the weight back[emoji24] but have now been approved to get band removed and have bypass next Friday!! Exciting but also a bit scary. I wasnt sure when (or if) this would ever happen... and now have a new set of colleagues who dont know about my lapband journey so I didnt tell any of my colleagues at work about bypass. Now I am on calendar for this Friday. I am taking 2 weeks off for Christmas…

After 14 years, I had my lap band removed. I feel good, no post op issues, concerned that I will gain weight. My goal is to eat as if I had my lap band in place. About 6-8 months ago, I began experiencing an increase in acid reflux and symptoms related to GERDs. Two endoscopic exams showed tissue damage due to acid reflux, indications of Barrett's Esophagus, and band slippage. After a daily dose of Prilosec, the second exam six weeks after the first, eliminated Barrett's Esophagus concerns, but confirmed band slippage. Post Op of the lap band in 2005, I lost 105 lbs. Within three years, I gained about 20 lbs and maintained +/- 5 lbs for approximately 9 years to 20…

I was sleeved in December of 2013. I lost a total of 50lbs before i ended up getting pregnant and regaining the weight. I currently am more than i weighed pre surgery and my doctors have recommended that i be revised to a bypass. I am a bit scared and want to know of anyone else’s experience with a sleeve to a bypass after a regain. Was your weight loss after your bypass successful? Do you have more issues now than before? Can you tolerate less foods? It will be very helpful in my decision making. Thank you all♥️

  7. I am scheduled December 12th to have my lap band removed and revision to RNY. I leave in May for Europe for wine cruise in Bordeaux France and then an additional 3 weeks in Spain and Portugal. I would like to enjoy some wine and tastes of on the various foods we will be served. I will be traveling with 2 other couples. I need help understanding where I will be in 6 months. Can I eat and drink just about anything within the small servings guidelines? Being able to keep up with the other couples and being sick and tired of being so heavy and out of shape is my driving me to do this now. The other issue I have is that my mom is being referred to hospice. She is 95 and not …

I am 6 days out from sleeve to rny revision & still have not pooped. I am finally passing gas, but I do not feel any urge to have a bowel movement. I have been taking Dulcolax stool softener a couple times a day, but still nothing. Was wondering if MOM or Mirilax is the way to go? I am also having a sharp pain under by left breast/rib cage. Hurts to take a deep breath. Anyone else experience this?

  9. I had a sleeve done in 2013. I lost a ton of weight and am very happy with the resuIts. I lost 120 pounds and have kept it off. The problem is that it gave me terrible GERD to the point where medication no longer helps. I've seen multiple doctors and they all say I need surgery to correct the GERD before it becomes pre-cancerous. The surgery to correct the GERD is a gastric bypass. I'm already at my goal weight of 175 and I'm scared that I'll loose too much weight. Has anyone experienced this too? I'm looking for feedback.

  10. Hi, I would be very grateful for any advice. I was banned in 2006 at 18 stone (114kg) and have lost and maintained my current weight of between 11 - 12 stones (69.8kg) for over 10 years. I have had very little issues with my band, occasional stuck food, a little pain and a very unsightly port that sticks out. I would really like to remove the band as I no longer like the idea of having it inside my body and am also worried about long term damage. I would really like to convert from a band to the Sleeve or Plication However, my BMI is now approx. 23 and I have been told no one will operate as my BMI is too low. I am happy being restricted food-wise and don'…

I had a revision surgery from Lapband to Sleeve on August 2nd. So I am three days out. The pain is bearable for the most part. I am having a really intense sharp pain that runs across my lower chest under my rib cage. It last for a few seconds and then goes away. This happens maybe every 5 minutes or so. Is this normal?

My HW ever was 340 SW 270 LW 215 My CW 232 Because I've been on my per-OP for a week. Last week was 247.8 My first yr out I got to 215 My band was awesome.I had hit the sweet spot an life was amazing. Then in 2017 I got rear ended at a stop light an it broke my neck in 5 places an my back in two. Plus it tweaked my LB. I had to have it emptied. Never found my sweet spot again. I’ve regained weight about 20 pounds from my lowest weight of 191. Pre/op 331, surgery 311. I really feel I never lost weight like everyone else and now I’m gaining weight. I didn’t think you could this fast with SIPS. Is a revision worth considering? Are there people who have had revisions from SIPS? Not to sound crazy but there are many times I don’t even think I’ve had the surgery. I can’t tell at all whatsoever. Maybe I’m just bummed out and getting the blues. I just thought I was doing well and then since July of this year to now I’ve gained 30 pounds.

Good morning everyone, Somehow I missed this forum when I first joined. I posted in the pre-surgery Q & A and felt like a loner, but I included the post on my profile too. I am scheduled for a gastric sleeve revision on December 2, 2019. Someone asked why I did not choose to a have a bypass the second time and the reason is that I have a form of anemia that make the bypass too dangerous to manage. The irony is not only was my last surgery December 3, 2013, I am at the exact pre-surgery weight I was back then. I had quick early success and dropped 80 pounds in the first three months. That was both scary and exciting and I had this fairy tale belief that I cou…

Hello, I am having revision surgery tomorrow. 12/4/191; RNY to SADI. I saw some research mentioning that this was a better surgery than distalization for weightloss. My surgeon seems hyped about its ability to cause better weightloss. I would like to at least get down to 200 lbs which is where I was before my weight regain. I gained 75 lbs due to living with someone (my mom) who had all kinds of carbs in her house. Luckily, I found a place near her and did not have to live with her carbs anymore about two years ago. Since then I have been trying to lose the weight. I lost about 25 lbs; basically 1 lb a month. I am 57 years ol…

I am having surgery on 12/16. They are going to repair my hernia and check on my sleeve. My GERD is crazy. The only thing that doesn't hurt to eat? "pasta" I have gained weight. I feel awful most days and each night. If this is the new wave in medicine? Wow

So im almost a week out of having Sleeve to SADI revision. Everything is great. Was out of hospital the next day and am up and about, walking, shopping and generally doing the "norm", just taking it easy. Technically, I'm supposed to be on stage one post op diet, but have managed to tolerate soft foods (scrambled egg with mashed beans, thick soups, flaked fish and mash etc). I know i shouldnt be eating this yet but my surgeon told me that since the sleeve to SADI didnt involve touching the stomach, i didnt need to be "TOO" concerned about following the post op diet and just be careful. I was just wondering if anyone else here has had this op and how it has …

So, I am not exactly sure where to start so I guess I will just go with the beginning: I was sleeved on 2/15/16 starting weight at 243 by 10/1/16 I had lost 98.8 lbs weighing in at 144.2lbs. 10/10/16, I found out I was pregnant. I had a textbook pregnancy, perfect strong baby boy was born on 6/13/17. I had only gained 30 lbs during my pregnancy. (Please I beat myself up enough, my son was not planned, I was told I wouldn’t be able to have kids but by the grace of God he is here) jump to today. I have gained a total of 55 lbs and hovering at 200. I’ve found myself eating more. And not sure what to do.. I also moved to a different state. Anyway, obviously I failed. I’m …

I’m currently going through the process for a sleeve revision (tests, insurance clearance,etc.). Originally I was thinking duodenal switch (DS) or SIPS/DS loop but now I’m also looking into the possibility of a revision to bypass. I lost the majority of my weight with the band in 2010, revised to sleeve due to band slip in 2014 but never felt any restriction with the sleeve, and now have gained back almost half of my original loss following a hysterectomy about 2 years ago. I think I will likely be able to lose at least some if not all of my excess weight with any of these revision options but am most concerned about keeping the weight off long term. Any recommendations…

And no one had the decency to call me and let me know. The only reason I found out was because the hospital called to cancel my preop appointment I had with them today because it was too early. And I was like huh? ? So sure enough, the hospital was right. The receptionist nor the nurse knew that doc told me on 10/1 he wanted to do the surgery on 10/21. Where my lapband was had become extremely tight and was not allowing anything to go through. So I was scheduled to go in the next morning which was last Thursday to have an EGD with a ballon stretch in the area where the issue was. I now can eat about 6oz of food before I feel satiety. I am worried it was over stretched. I am not losing any weight. I am very concerned I am eating to much. It is low fat and low carb meals and of course protein first. I am still adhering to …

So I went to a gastroenterologist he had me do two hida scans on my gallbladder and said one came out bad and one good. So he kept pumping me with reflux medication. I was so worried because I’ve learned one thing is you can not vomit. Then after this long year of vomiting i went to my PC and he said it’s your gallbladder it needs to be taken out . I have an important test three weeks after my surgery date, which may be ill advised, but it was the only time I could get off work. 34. Hi All! I’m scheduled for a VSG to Loop DS revision next Thursday 9/26/19 with Dr. Walter Medlin In UT. I had VSG in SD with Dr. Takata In 2013, insurance covered it. It was successful and without complications. Pre VSG I was 297+... at my lowest I was at 180, With time and two pregnancies I lost restriction and gained. I was able to lose weight after both pregnancies but was not able to maintain it, or return to the post VSG pre pregnancy low. Despite maintaining a medium level of activity (depending on the week spin class/ triathlons/ 5ks/ 18-30 mi relaxed bike rides on the weekends/ lots of walking), I hovered around 235, now with low activity I’m at 250. I'm paranoid that I'll get there and my surgery will be canceled the day before due to some rare/hidden health issue. For reference, I had a slipped lap band about 5 years ago and a gastric sleeve 4 years ago. So, this is my THIRD surgery. I currently don't have any concerning symptoms, except for a very large sleeve. I don't have any current barium swallow x-rays, so I will be getting them the day before surgery. Fast forward to today, I am at 185!!! I am only about 45 lbs from starting weight....that's scares me, I don't feel well physically...emotional, as I am back to carrying all of this weight around. By December 2016 i started getting excruciating pain in my upper abdomen and ended up having an emergency gall bladder removal. Up until December 2018 I continued to experience these gall attacks and would end up in the ER in agony almost once a month and managed the smaller attacks weekly and sometimes daily. I ended up having an ERCP procedure for sphincter of Oddi and since then have gained weight like crazy due to being able to eat without fear of an attack. Hi, All: I was banded in 2009 and never had much success with it. Any time I got restriction, it came with a lot of heartburn (which manifested itself as nausea). I also struggled with a lot of food intolerance. Eventually, because my insurance switched and I have a written exclusion regarding bariatric surgery, I had the band mostly unfilled due to too much restriction and cost. At any rate, in January, my health insurance plan will now include bariatric surgery, although it’s unclear as to what language looks like regarding revisions. One concern I have is how to make a case to the insurance company deeming the revision medically necessary. I have had many EGDs,…

Hello and good day all. Today I'm starting the first day of my preOP diet. I actually only have to do it for the first four days before surgery which is on the 21st; however, after I realized that I have gained 74 of the 99 pounds I lost, I decided to get my head in the game and do this for two weeks like I did 8 1/2 years ago when I was banded. I am just as excited today as I was in November 2010 when I first did the liquid diet. I only lost 8 lbs before surgery but it was a lost. I will see how my body acts now that I'm older.
