So I'm having a revision due to GERD what should i know its been 10 years now

What prompted most people to do the revision surgery?

I had revision surgery Feb 3rd (6 days ago) from mgb to full bypass due to acid reflux. I have felt from the beginning I could probably drink as much as I want and don't have to take tiny sips like I did with the mgb. I even had a protein shake and some cream soup today, a day early, with no problems. The doctor said he didn't do anything to my pouch other than fix the hiatal hernia. I'm guessing that's why I'm having such an easy time drinking whatever I want. I'm not complaining but just wondering if anyone else with the same revision has had this experience.

Hello everyone this is probably going to be long but really could use the input. Nov 2019 I had the gastric sleeve done. Since this I have had nothing but troubles. 10 days after surgery I was admitted due to blood in my belly and a hematoma on my spleen. They fixed that and discharged 3 days later. I have not been able to eat much more then let's say a chicken nugget(less then an ounce of anything including liquids) I got dehydrated was admitted again 29 days post op. Stayed for 12 days got a picc line with tpn since I can not eat or drink much. During this stay had endoscopy and they stretched a stricture lower part of stomach to intestines from 15mm to 25is…

I am having a hiatal hernia repair, sleeve revision and epiphrenic gastric diverticulum resection. I have never heard of the last part. Has anybody had this before?

So, 13 years ago, I weighed 350 pounds. I made a commitment to change, and lost 100 pounds through dieting. After that, in Sept. 2013, I had a sleeve procedure and hernia fix (without complications) and went from 250 down to 155 (my lowest) in 2016. That's when the problems began. I have been suffering with terrible on and off gastritis, constant GERD and reflux, stomach ulcers, and my hiatal hernia needs repair again. I have had two recent endoscopies,including one with a Bravo probe, and the surgeon claims the only way to permanently fix the problem to to revise from a sleeve to RNY. Hello All! I am a newbie to this thread but I did have VSG in 2016. I lost over a 100 pounds unfortunately I failed my sleeve so now I'm going back to Mexico to have the mini bypass done. Notice I said I failed my sleeve not my sleeve failed me. I went back to my old habits. I still Have quite a bit of restriction but I'm just eat all of the time I have joined a support group and I'm also going to counseling for my eating disorder. Hopefully it will work this time. Hi! I am 10 years post sleeve surgery. I had my sleeve back in 2010, when the procedure what relatively new. I had the procedure done as an outpatient. I was cash pay and had no follow-up. Everything seemed to go well. I started at over 350lbs, and made it to 219lbs. I was ecstatic! I was no longer a diabetic, I no longer had high blood pressure. I no longer had an appetite. I will have my revision gastric bypass in a week my bypass was 20 years ago and I started to gain weight 5 years ago, I almost can eat everything still small amount than a adult but I remember so many dumping ? any tips???

I had a lapband on 30 July 2007 and had it removed in 13 November 2007 due to slippage. In 21 November 2008 I had a gastric sleeve. The sleeve was not a true banana shape due to scar tissue. I started at 133 kgs and plateaued at 102kgs. In 2015 due to constant reflux I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia around my port entry which has given me a permanent gap at the LES. Since then I had put weight on due to menopause, HRT and stress by 4 kgs. Then in June 2018 I had a mild stroke due to BP and now I am 116kgs. So options are to have sleeve revision with hiatus hernia fixed or gastric bypass. But I’m not sure of the complications about a bypass.

I had the sleeve done in Mexico in 2011 and found out it was stretched. I've had regained some weight and have acid reflux. Even though a surgeon here in the U.S. said it was necessary my insurance denied the revision because of my bmi and because I never did the 6 month supervised diet. So I'm headed back to Mexico for a revision to mini bypass. I'm nervous but excited also.

HI All! I dont see many like me here! I had Lap Band in 2005, Sleeve in 2010 and now mini Bypass 30 days ago. My lap band from the start hated me. Pain, vomiting and not really losing anything. So...back I went to have it removed. When they took out the band they had trouble giving me a good sleeve which resulted in limited weight loss. Now, I have the mini. Im confused on review of revision surgeries. I hear they dont work, you wont lose much, you will regret it. However, I am down 30 pounds! Seems like a good start! Any one else been down this road? Hello New to site ... Last band May 2013 SW 255lbs CW 146lbs Mostly maintaining for 3 years, with some +/- 5lbs Since band I’ve had burping all the time. I lost 150 pounds pre-surgery, and then lost about another 100 after surgery. I was so proud and happy and healthy. Has anyone had band over bypass revision surgery? I had RNY bypass surgery in 2002. I lost about 80lbs, but never lost as much as I had hoped/expected. Over the years, I've gained back 50-60lbs. After 5 years of trying everything to lose the weight, I went for a consultation to discuss revision options. My Dr. suggested placing a lap band over the original bypass. Has anyone had this procedure done? How successful was this revision? Has anyone found any other successful revision options?

I am lossing weight after surgery (hernia and esophagus) repair. I had my sleeve done over 5 years ago. GERD was not really a planned issue. However, it's a big issue for me. I think that revsion is good option for many. However, I am scared. I don't want other complications. I spent 5 days in the hospital due to complications with these surgeries. Every doctor was amazed at the great condition of my sleeve. I still have GERD. I still spent a month in pain. I still need to lose weight. Help! I had to start with a fix to my esophagus and repair a hernia. Now it's my turn to make this work. Before, the foods I was supposed to eat created acid. So I ate the food that didn't create pain. I gain 40 pounds. Now, moving forward with my new revised tool. Highest weight presleeve: 281 by the time I had courage to get on the scale. recorded weight before sleeve: 281 Weight before this procedure: 231 Goal weight: 159 to 161 New year and new plan. I had sleeve in September 2016. I’ve regained 50 of the 130 pounds I lost and don’t believe I can get back to where I was and stay there indefinitely. I think it’s too soon for me to be thinking about revision without spending at least six months making a hard effort to lose the weight. Frankly, I’m depressed as hell and can’t stop thinking about being fat.

Hello everyone. I finally had surgery this past Monday, 11/18. It took my surgeon a while to get the Lapband out of me because of all the scar tissue that had accumulated. I was supposed to come home yesterday, but I couldn't. I was in so much freaking pain and had so much nausea that I stayed until today. So I sat in my favorite recliner after getting home for about 20 minutes and well, I've been in bed ever since. I knew it was going to be painful, but dang this really hurts. Good afternoon all..... how many of you had sleeve revision after complete success with the band. Banded in 2009. 2009 SW: 232lbs, LW: 135lbs... but my best most consistent weight 143 for 7+ years. Zero trouble till 2017, got the flu and slipped my band. I managed to keep my weight down pretty good and gained 30lbs in the 2.5 years. But no matter what i ate and no matter what i did (crossfit 3-4 x per week) i couldn't lose. Any people revise from Band to sleeve with a low BMI... Cash pay?

HI all, I had revision from banding to bypass in October and I feel like there is something in my throat constantly on the left side ever since. Does anyone else have this issue. I also have gotten sick once and maybe TMI; but how else do you find these things out.... when I was sick my vomit only came out the right side of my throat. Wondering if anyone has had this experience or should I be concerned????

I was doing great with the sleeve. Then my husband started beating me, my autistic son became a "teenager".... insert dramatic scary music here.... and my mom died on Dec 21. I'm 3 weeks post bypass surgery. First 2 weeks no issue with vomiting. Now 23 days post surgery still can't progress past stage 2 liquids due to sudden onset of vomiting the same liquids and amounts that I was successfully taking in the first 2 weeks. The worst part is it happens when just taking in small amounts of plain water. The first indications happened 4 days ago. Waiting for a call back from my surgeon's office, but in the meantime, I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. I've posted this before but am hoping to hear back from some others. I am having a sleeve to bypass revision due to severe GERD. I am currently at my goal weight. I weigh 180 and am 5'11". Has anyone else had a revision due to GERD while at goal weight? I can only imagine I'm going to lose significant weight during my liquid and puree phases of the past-op diet. I’m preparing for revision all surgery in the next couple months. I’m concerned about how much I can lose. I originally lost 112 with the sleeve and have gained back about 55-60 (I’m afraid to look). I have heard things like the sleeve portion of the surgery (which I have already had) helps you lose the weight and the rest of the surgery (malabsorption part) helps you keep it off. Wanted to see if there were any people here that have done this revision that can give me the skinny on how much I will lose. ANY advise on what I’m getting myself into is appreciated. All my research points to go but real life experience is always appreciated!

Sleeved 2017 no problems and recovery was fast and easy. Now experience Issues with hiatal hernia. Surgeon has me do upper UGI and endoscopy recommends RYNY ti remove hernia and help with Gerd. Anyone done this how is the recovery?

Ok It has been years since I have posted on here I am six years out since my revision to RNY. However in the last few months and now in the last few days I can feel sharp pain where the small intestines are connected bypassed on the bottom and I can feel the pain. Its getting worse my surgeon has since retired and I have moved its getting worse the pain I mean, I have been trying to ignore it but now I cannot sleep. I became very Anemic a year ago and they never found the cause. I just want to know if anyone else had this pain and what they did. My wife wants me to ignore it however The pain is increasing across the intestine. any ideas

I've an old band that was making me vomit quite often, and even though the xrays show the band to be perfect the surgeon said it still had to come out. I was lucky that he only requires a three day liquid diet since that was tough. I was sleeved 3 years ago and lost in total about 30 kilos, however sleeve has stretched and am regaining weight all the time. Ive got a date booked in for the 7th April to go from sleeve to bypass. My question is how is the pain after this type of surgery? I’m also booked on a long haul flight (18hrs) exactly 6 weeks after. Has anyone done this? We are already booked and can not be upgraded to business class etc. on top of the costs of my surgery. How have people managed with food at this stage on the plane and will I still be on soft foods etc and do I have to be cautious of dumping? Any advice would be appreciated!

Is there anyone with a VSG or RNY surgery date at the end of February? My band has been out for about 3 weeks. Feeling good that I made it through the Holidays without gaining any weight. I have been trying to stay within the eating restrictions I had with the band for 14 years. Post op has been much better than expected. Hi, I was sleeved in 2014. My high weight was 311, I got down to 165 and now I am 205. BMI is 32. I started to take progesterone for perimenopause two years ago and I have been gaining since then. My sleeve has stretched out a lot in five years. Does anyone know what the requirements are for surgeons and insurance companies to get overstitch? I can't find anything online, it is so vague. Ideally I would like to be at 175-180. Anything under that and I look gaunt. I have tried the pouch test and keto and monitoring my calories and protein but nothing really helps. I was sleeved about 4 years ago since then I have been on a different antidepressant and gaining weight back. Starting weight 368 lost 114 pounds now I’m back to 302. Doctor says revision is not an option because of meds. Has anyone else had trouble getting doctor to do revision? thank you

I originally had a sleeve and a few years back had it revised to the mini bypass. I have the worst reflux ever now and have gained back even more weight than before the MGB and am just miserable. Is it possible to have a second revision to a full bypass? I saw a digestive specialist and he suggested that was the route I go, but ran into trouble actually finding a surgeon that would perform it, So if anyone has an insight or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it

My doctor has suggested removing my band and doing the RNY bypass. Does anyone know if they can be done at the same time? I'm unsure I want to go under twice for the same thing. I was revised from VSG to RNY due to horrific GERD and Barrett's Esophagus a week ago today. I had kept off 105# of an initial 125# weight loss but due to two hip surgeries stalling my running, had regained about 20# in year 6. But overall I was still happy with permanent weight loss. I had an abdominoplasty in 2013 where they pulled me pretty tight. Since discharge, the vast majority of my pain has been along the part of my incision adjacent to the abdominoplasty. Surgeon says this is common. Anyone else experience this?

HI I had a weight regain and I have seen doctors with all kinds of suggestions for revision surgery. Has anyone heard of RNY to Single anastomosis duodenal switch. Or had this? I know revision after gastric bypass is unusual. Just looking for information.
