I put on 40 lbs since my VSG in 2018. I filled out a health questionnaire for Mexico Bariatric Center. Just got approved from one of their Doctors. Not sure if I want to try and take this off traditionally or try the revision. I think it's 3 times the price here in the USA.

Did anyone purchase a secondary health insurance policy to help cover the cost of a revision?

  3. I posted about this on the sleeve forum before. I developed GERD after my sleeve and was able to control it with one PPI a day until the end of 2020 where it's increased to two PPIs, 1 H2 and tums all day. Had issues with vomiting, nausea, stomach and chest pain. Difficulty swallowing. Sore throat since December. Had an endoscopy 3/3. Lax LES causing GERD, gastritis and a nodule in the antrum of the stomach that appears to be benign but will be removed in an endoscopic ultrasound in June as a precaution as it has a small risk of turning cancerous later on. Gastroenterologist referred me to my bariatric surgeon believing revision is needed. My surgeon wasn't su…

My surgeon's office appealed with the EXACT same language as the first request to go from VSG to an RNY which was denied. Hello month wasted, of course they would deny it again. What's that line about repeating the same behavior expecting a new result? Sheer laziness! ? I'm currently waiting on a call back from the appeals department at my insurance for clarification on one of the points of the revision criteria: Weight loss to 90% or less of ideal body weight If my understanding is correct, since I only lost 27% of my excess body weight and I'm a good 55 pounds from my ideal body weight (not even my goal, but I'm 35 pounds from that too and only lost 24 pounds…

Hi all ? I need to prep for a revision for next week. I have my old “sleeve” paperwork... is it different you think? Surgeons office said 2 weeks liquid but I did not do that last time with my nutritionist. ??‍♀️ (who I’ve called and emailed and don’t have time to go see her again). My surgical coordinator is on vacation, so can’t ask him. Process was started 8-10 weeks ago and day before pre surgeon testing, last Thursday, they denied my revision. I appealed it and 48 hours later it was over turned. Thank God. But now I’m behind The eightball with the liquid diet. This GERD and hernia is horrible. All day non stop GERD. Doing double dose of meds per the surgeon for…

Hi All, I'm new here and happy to find you all. I was banded in November 2010. Continued to see my dr until I had a good fit of fluid. Then I thought I didn't see them again unless I had an issue with my band. I lost a total of 38 pounds but lost a ton of inches going from a size 26 pants to an 18. 4x shirt to 1x (but loved the comfort 2x gave me [emoji4]) About a year ago I started having severe acid. To the point it woke me up choking. Having terrible pain in my stomach and not being able to keep much food or liquid down. Went to a GI, had endoscopy and found 3 esophageal ulcers. (Didn't realize I should have gone to my surgeon). After meds healed all but 1 ulcer he a…

I had a VSG in 2015 and had gained almost all of the weight back. On May 27th I had a revision to a gastric bypass. I'm about 3 weeks out and this stitch pain is no joke! I can barely bend or walk at times. Aside from that and unlike my VSG, I feel great. So much so that I feel as though this will not work for me. Nothing is making me sick, I feel like I can eat without issues. I lost 21 pounds the first 2 weeks, now this week I've gained. I'm starting to feel like this will fail like the last time.

  11. I would really love to hear some success stories of people who had a revision from the slave to the mini gastric or gastric bypass and had success. Personally, I am totally willing to go through a revision and all that comes with it but not for a 30 pound weight loss and I’m getting a lot of mixed information. What’s your success story? Would you share some pictures of your revision starting weight self and where you’re at now? I could really use some encouragement because I’m not sure if I should believe all the surgeons I’ve been talking to!

I had original Bypass in March 2003. Only lost 50lbs. I then opted for the “experimental Stomypx” in 2010 lost 12 lbs. so I just had a Haitian hernia repair on 6/9/21. Along with “tightening my stretched stoma of 4 cm to making it 1 cm. My pouch maintained it size since 2013! Since my stoma opening was to big it bypassed my stomach. It has now caused GERD, hernia… well you know… My question to all the revised ppl is was the weight loss slower? My surgeon said I will loos60% of my body w excess body weight. Did you lose that? Or less or more? I do feel restriction… but still pretty reluctant I will ever reach an ideal healthy weight. I went in at 228 6/9 I’m now at 21…

I had the Gastric Sleeve 9/2015 SW 347 LW 239. Now I’m having a revision due to GERD and regain. CW 299… the first time around I didn’t follow-up with my doctor after having complications with GERD early on. I’m so looking forward to doing things the right way this time! Who’s having their revision in August? Also, what are some mistakes you all made that you plan to do differently this time?

  15. My first post to this forum and I'm grateful I found you. My surgeon does Band to Bypass in two steps. I had my band removed about two months ago. Except for tugging on a stitch I didn't know was there and having that hurt bad, it went smoothly. Four days ago I went in for step two... RNY. I was told in advance that there was about 20% chance that adhesions from a prior surgery (colon resection) might prevent the doc from pulling up the small intestine to meet the stomach. Imagine my surprise when I woke up and the nurse handed me ice water to drink. I knew I didn't have the bypass. Why? Holy Can of Worms Batman! I'm still waiting to get photographs …

I had the sleeve in 2013. I lost a lot of weight. I have regained more then I would like but I’m still happy with the sleeve and no where near the size I was. I have had issues with GETD, vomiting and horrible heartburn at night. Finally got a doctor to listen to me and referral me to a surgeon who immediately knew I needed surgery to fix the problem. So know I’m scheduled for the bypass 11/23. My pain goal is relief from the GERD, vomiting and heartburn. However, I’m wondering how much weight will I lose, how fast will it come off? What are some tips for the second time around. i

  20. Last Thursday I had my lap band removed (put in 2008) because of complications with reflux. My doctor suggested switching to the sleeve and I agreed. However, now I’m really questioning if this was the right thing. I’ve been re- hospitalized since surgery after not being able to keep anything down. I’ve been back home since yesterday afternoon and I’m still battling the constant feeling of fullness and have been unable to drink much more than a few sips of my protein shakes daily. Has anyone experienced removal and switch to sleeve same day? Someone please tell me it gets better ☹️

  22. Started by Plutonium,

Hi all, I had the sleeve around 2 years ago and now, because of GERD, I need a revision and am scheduled for the 24th. I also gained back around half of the weight I lost. According to my doctor, (new surgeon) my former surgeon took about 50% of my stomach when the norm is about 70-90%. I never did reach my goal and was frustrated. I am curious if anyone has experienced anything similar and if they were able to reach their goal with revision. Also, with regards to dumping: does it also happen with Splenda and the like?

Hi everyone, I had my lap band installed on May 21, 2012. Starting weight was 293, was 285 the day of surgery, got down to around 240, stayed there a while, then started phentermine which helped me lose more. For a single day in August of 2019 I crossed from obese to overweight and am now back up to 235. Recently, whatever I ate got stuck and had to be “ejected” after which I could resume eating. Along with this came an increase in reflux, to the point of having stomach acid in my mouth a few times. Saw the NP, she suggested unfilling the band, getting an upper GI and seeing where to go after that. I am reluctant to refill the band because I fear the reflux will re…

  27. What have been some of your experiences with going from sleeve to bypass? Worst things? Best things? Weight loss time periods? etc. Also, I know this is a stupid time to be asking this but I made a bad assumption about the bypass. I thought since I had the sleeve already that the surgeon would just use that pouch and redirect the small intestine. After reading some of the stories on here, I am not sure what they did to my stomach part?? Anyone have any answers for that one too??

I received a gastric sleeve back in June of 2016 so I'm coming up on my 5 year anniversary. I at one time weighed nearly 500 pounds and got the surgery at 380 as I lost 120 pounds on my own prior to surgery. I was down all the way to 160 pounds. My doctor even said I could stand to gain a few pounds. Problem is, I gained more than a few. I currently weigh about 330 pounds now. I have developed a hernia that will probably need to be surgically repaired. Given that, I'm considering a revision. Can a hernia be repaired while doing a revision? 30. Hello! It’s been a long time since I’ve been on these boards! I was sleeved in 2011 and am now scheduled for revision to MGB in June. my question is directed to those of you who chose revision due to weight gain, not because of GERD, not that I don’t appreciate the view points of you all who revised due to GERD but because I really want to hear form folks whose primary reason for revision was to address weight regain. i am almost back up to my highest weight pre sleeve and I see such mixed results. What has your experience if you had revision to actually lose weight? Was it worth the expense? Did you get the results you were hoping for?

Hello all- I’m interested in hearing people’s stories as they went from sleeve to bypass due to Gerd. I’m extremely nervous restarting this process. I was sleeved 5 years ago and have been suffering with GERD ever since, which I feel has gotten worse. In 2018, I did the linx surgery, which is a metal band around the esophagus to stop GERD- it didn’t work so I got it removed later that year. Now here I am in 2020 thinking about the switch to bypass. Obviously my fear is this will now be my 4th surgery in 6 years. In addition, will this really work.

  40. this is my first post. Hey YALL ? I'm Bridgette I had the lap-band placed, corrected, removed within 3yrs of each other back in 2013. Had it removed in 2015. 44. Hi I am considering revision surgery from lap band (which has been loosened and is now unfilled for 12 months) to gastric bypass. Unfortunately, I appear to have put on about 25 kg in 12 months. I'm hoping some people can give me some suggestion on what their estimate (IN AUSTRALIA) of out-of-pocket expenses for revision surgery was. I am wanting to know if the honeymoon phase is different in a revision or the same and when it ends? I honestly didnt feel like I had a honeymoon phase with VSG I worked hard to get to goal that first year and I never felt like the weight just came off and it was hard to maintain, but with this revision everything seems so much easier and I am 20lbs lighter and not struggling to maintain like I did with VSG. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
