I have RNY Gastric Bypass 16 years ago. Due to the complications listed below, I am having revision surgery. Has anyone gone through this procedure? How much weight did you lose after the surgery?

So here is my story and already I know your being able to help me is a long shot. I had my stomach stapled in 1999. I lost 100 pounds but the metal ring that was placed at the bottom of my stomach eroded through. Later I learned this is why they do not do this procedure anymore. I then had a conversion surgery to a gastric bypass in 2012. This was following the death of my daughter. I lost 30 pounds but that was from no appetite due to depression. I never had restriction from the surgery. I had a revision in 2020 (October)) again I have no restriction and am not losing weight. I have done everything I was told and it did not work again. Hi- I had gastric bypass in 2016. Lost 100lbs. Since then, I’ve gained 60 of that weight. I have an appt in couple of weeks for a revision. From what I’ve looked, they do an endoscopic revision and it’s a 15 min procedure. My question is- do we have to wait the 6 months that we did for the original gastric (per insurance) or will this not be that long of a wait? How much have you lost since the revision? Hello everyone so I had the lapband years ago I don’t remember the year to be honest but I want to say at least 9 years I never really lost much weight and it always gave me problem to this day I sometimes choke on water so I want to do a revision my doctor recommends to do bypass so I guess I want to hear from people who have had a revision from lapband to bypass

I'm on soft food stage and did salmon tonight for dinner with cooked carrot. I hadn't eaten all day & I just wasn't thinking and I ate too much, as I ate so quickly. I have Stomach pains, I've heaved, but only saliva comes out. It's so freaking painful! Will NEVER do this again. Terrible feeling

I had a VSG in 2008. I’ve been on nexium for acid reflux since then. At my lowest, I’d lost 120 lbs. I’ve kept 50 of that off. In addition to weight creeping back up, I’ve continually had problems with burping, hiccups, occasional vomiting, pills getting stuck, and bile washing back up. Finally, I went back to my surgeon late last year. I wasn’t planning to do another WLS (I’m 55 and thinking this is just how I am), but did a barium swallow and endoscopy. He said I have bile reflux (in addition to acid reflux) and that puts me at risk for esophagal cancer. He wants to do a gastric bypass and I’m scheduled for that now. Hi! About 12 years ago I had the lap band. I started at about 280 lbs and got down to 200 lbs but now I’m back to about 240 lbs (I should be around 140 lbs). I have terrible reflux, morning bile in my throat, and vomiting multiple times a week. I found a great revision doctor and he has approved me for revision to gastric bypass. I’m going in on 4/23 to make sure my band has slipped so that insurance pays. But regardless (I will self pay at this point- even if I have to sell plasma), I’m having the bypass and I’m so excited. Any one out there that can give me some good advice? What to expect? I appreciate any guidance!! Thank you so much! ?

Surgery day is April 26 and I started my liquid diet today I have a very high BMI I can’t say I’m really hungry since it’s 5 shakes a day one every 3 hours I definitely think my struggle will be mental just wondering anyone else had to do an extra long pre op diet?

I had my lap-band removed a little over a year ago due to complications. Since then I have gained 30 pounds and growing, and now have a BMI of 35. I met with my surgeon today in hopes of getting a revision to gastric bypass. He does not believe I would qualify due to my BMI not being 40 or above, although my band was removed due to complications. He is still willing to play out the process and see what happens (dietician visits, etc.). He has also ordered a bunch of tests to see if anything shows up that may be obesity related that may help the process. Has anyone else been in the the same or similar situation? What was your outcome? I appreciate any feedback.

Did anyone struggle with, I don't know if it's body dysmorphia or what, but right after surgery? I'm so fearful that this also won't work for me, that I can see how not eating can be tempting. Just so afraid it won't work.

I was ready to get the sleeve done in January 2021, but changed my mind at the last minute and got the Orbera balloon instead. That was the biggest mistake and waste of money I’ve ever made. I’ve been nauseous for 2 months; nauseous like morning sickness nausea that would only be helped with eating crackers or bread or soup. I’d eat and literally be starving a short time later. It did not reduce the amount of food I was able to eat either. My doctor wanted me to stick with it, and gave me all kinds of anti nausea medications, none of which helped. He said I could get the sleeve instead if I really wanted to but there needed to be a week in between removing the balloon …

Hi all, new to this app. I originally had sleeve in 2014 and lost almost 100lbs. I maintained my weight for a year, happy, healthy and exercising. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy and put on medication. I became very depressed and started packing the lbs back on. After several years of getting seizure meds regular and 10-15 lbs gain each year plus Covid.... I gained 65-70 back. I have my final appointment 4/14 hoping for surgery date ASAP. Can anyone share pros and cons from VSG to Bypass? Thanks Tiffany

For those of you sleeved, then revised to by-pass, did you feel depressed at all? Like with the sleeve, I could eat or drink what I wanted. I'm only a week post op, but the thought of not having hot spiced wine or a mojito ever again is depressing. I'm DREAMING of a taco. With the sleeve, I couldn't eat a whole one, but a tortilla with guac, beef, pico, and cheese!! The fear of never being able to eat or drink normally again just keeps flooding my mind. Tell me I'm not alone please, lol

I joined this forum in 2012, but wasn't really active. One friend who I connected with on here and she vanished, so I just never really came back. I just had a revision from sleeve that was done Nov. 2012, to bypass on Tuesday. I had some GERD, but not severe, but full weight gain. I also was 30 pounds from goal weight at my lowest. I knew the sleeve wouldn't work for me, because it's not about how much I eat, but what I eat when I feel like eating. You guys, this is HARD. Before sleeve, I didn't eat much, even less after. I had my revision surgery on 2/24. My weight was 181. Since then I am only at 173 (it bounces a couple of pounds). It has not moved (mostly) since 3/5. Getting water in is brutal. The taste is awful to me and no matter what I try it just doesn't work. I've started going on walks (when the weather permits) and also hop on the exercise bike when I can. I am hitting protein goals. I keep going back and forth between saying "it's just a stall" and "that's it - you did this for a measly 8 pounds". My original surgery was the sleeve and I was always stalling. I am just a little down in the dumps and needed to vent.

I'm looking into getting a revision and no longer have insurance that will cover it. Has anyone gone through Dr.Elias Ortiz or Dr. Almanza in Tijuana for their revision? What was your experience?

Going for a revision on the 22 but I have no idea if I can do it again or if there is something else the doctor can to help me loose the weight again. gastric by pass to another gastric bypass is possible? It looks like my revision from lap band to bypass will probably be open surgery and not laparoscopic. I’ve got lots of internal adhesions that we can blame. Have you had this surgery and how was your recovery? Did you have to stay overnight in hospital? How many days? How long before you could move without pain meds? Any tips? I have been waiting years for this surgery and want to be prepared and get this journey going and reach my goals. Thanks for your help!

I'm 9 months out from VSG, saw the bariatric clinic follow up staff, and am so GRR now. I never had that "I'm never hungry" feeling once I recovered from the surgery but shrugged it off. I could drink 2 oz. fluids at once literally the day of surgery so I was like... OK, cool. Weight loss was slow despite being diet compliant and exercising, stopped at 25 pounds after 3 months, then gained 10 back after a foot injury (off again since getting back to my daily 5k jog). I've been having reflux for ages despite avoiding trigger foods/drinks and I get hiccups 20+ times a day regardless of how I'm eating, drinking, or not doing either. Hi I haven't been on one of these forums in a looong time. I had a sleeve done in 11/2010. It has gone well and MOST of the time I hovered between 185-210 (which was fine with me as I was nowhere near my high of 300). about 1.5 yrs ago I started having trouble keeping some foods down...I figured I was just eating too fast or too much. I was losing weight but not too fast. I had post-menopausal bleeding in 12/2019 so we did the whole cancer check thing (esp with the vomiting becoming more of an issue). Hello all! I had gastric sleeve back in 2013. The weight slowly started to creep back on. Then, due to a number of circumstances, it ALL came back. For years I was having terrible heartburn/reflux, so my insurance paid for me to have revision surgery to gastric bypass. I had the surgery 6 weeks ago (Jan 11th). I have never felt any restriction at all! At first I though it was because it was all liquids or mushy food. But for the last 2 weeks I've been eating chicken, crab meat, hamburgers (no bun), etc., and have not had anything that didn't agree with me. I can eat way more than what my list calls for, too. I am scheduled for a mini gastric bypass March 12th. I started off with sleeve 2011 and then I had a revision 2018 a resleeve Gastric sleeve plication. I did not loose a lot of weight the second time and gained back the weight I lost . When I started in 2011 I was 235 got down to 149 with sleeve and then gained I got up to 187 when I decided to do the revision in 2018 day of sx I was 177 I lost like 10 pounds with the revision. I have to admit I was warned that with a resleeve it’s not successful on most patients but I did not listen. Now I’m 193 and I want to get back to 155 if possible . I heard good thing about the mini bypass! Please share if you can!

Hi all, So I had the revision surgery to RNY on the 24th and I initially had no problem drinking. As of yesterday I am having major issues. I started protein shakes Friday and I'm pretty sure I dumped on the evening shake. I thought maybe I took my vitamin and shake too close together. But now I am also having severe pain when I drink water. It feels as though my stomach is being stabbed and twisted. I've tried both warm and cold and get the same results. Is this normal?

I just had be revision this morning ing from Sleeve to RYNbypass. He also fixed a hiatal hernia. I am walking amd sitting in chair, no drain but omg the headache I would when I got out of Anesthesia wasddeadle, started in neck and took over full head. They have only given me Tylenol and to radial for ( like super inprofen) pain since I woke up from surgery. It has been 4.5 hours now amd I am worried that pain will hit me and I will not be prepared, they said they will give me morphine pill if pain gets bad. What should I do?? Headache is killing me. They did give me zophrane for naseau so I am goood there. They said I will be discharge at 11am unless something occurs. …

Hi everyone, New here. Looking for a safe space to ask questions regarding revision. A little back story... I had the VSG in May of 2019. I only lost 60lbs and regained 20 of them. My goal was to lose 150. I'm waiting for a surgery date for the duodenal switch. I guess I am asking for advice and experience from those who had revision from sleeve to DS. Has anyone had an "early" revision? I see most sleeve to RNY's happen at 2+years out from sleeve. I had no GERD at all before I got sleeve on October 15/20. I literally felt the acid as soon as I woke up in recovery. My program has us switch to soft foods at 2 weeks post-op. As soon as I switched from liquid to softs, I felt food rise in my esophagus after eating (regurgitation, but not full on puking - it rises, and then goes down again). At 1 month post-op, surgeon did a barium swallow and noted that I was regurgitating the barium and also that my esophagus was showing dysmotility and tertiary contractions. Hello, I'm getting the SIPS procedure as a revision from my gastric sleeve. It’s a fairly new procedure compared to other weight loss surgeries. Has anyone gotten this procedure, if so, Pls share your progress and experience ?

So it been almost 9 months since my revision to RNY from VSG. I had erosive esophagitis D and as of this past Dec it has gone down to an A. I still take Dexilant 60 mg and as I sit here typing I am on fire !!! Just wondering if anyone else is still going through this after being revised. I take the strongest PPI available that I am aware of but I shouldnt have to be on this PPI after the revision but here I am !

I had surgery 2/8 and I can keep liquids down and am fine but I have this pressure and pain in my back right between shoulder blades. Directly behind the area between my breasts. Is this telling me I over did it?

Since then I have found an amazing doctor who I trust and he spoke to me about a revision surgery for weightloss. He recommended the DS but apparently their was not a surgery code to bill it yet * this was last January 2020 * . He then recommended the bypass. Hi all! I went from sleeve to bypass. Didn’t have hunger with the sleeve. Had bypass on 11/2 and I’m starving. Anyone experience this? Is it just because it hard to get enough protein or will I feel this hungry once I’m on soft foods on the 16th?

Hi everyone: I know that it may take some time for people to respond but I keep going to the doctor to complain but its not helping. In 2015 I had the sleeve but after losing 50 pounds, within 5 years I gained it all back. In July 2020 I had the bypass. I'm down over 110 pounds which is amazing. The problem is that I'm finding that even foods, that I originally could eat after surgery, I now can't eat. Almost everything I eat makes me nauseous or I get sick. I'm literally dependent on protein shakes and quest bars as my only source of viable nutrition. I was prescribed zofran but so far that hasn't helped at all. Did anyone else have similar experiences? I was excited and inpatient waiting. I finally had it on 1/11/21. Overall I’m doing good. I have been drinking and I’m already on phase 2 which seems fast to me. When I had the sleeve and left the hospital I was 15 pounds. As of now the scale hasn’t moved. Hoping I’m doing everything right.

Was wondering if anyone has had the Overstitch procedure done. I am considering it as I have gained weight back. I am 7 years post-op from gastric bypass. I was told I would only lose approx 20lbs.

Hi all, I had the RNY (revised from gastric band) 7 years ago and had amazing success. I got to my goal weight in 5 months and kept the weight off for over 5 years. In the last 18 months, I've had some medical issues that have resulted in me regaining almost all of the weight. Now that I have resolved those issues, I am maintaining my weight, but finding it impossible to lose again like I did before.
