I’m trying to wrap my head around eating with a bypass versus a lapband. (I currently have a deflated lapband, I’m hoping for revision to a bypass when the lapband comes out.) After eating a small amount with the lapband, I felt literal restriction. And if I overate, I vomited, almost immediately. I understand that with a bypass, since your stomach pouch is so small, you feel full quickly. But from what I’m reading, you don’t usually vomit if you eat too much. Rather some people “dump,” which from what I’m reading happens internally and out the other end. What I’m having a hard time understanding is how you feel full and are forced to stop eating if …

I am 3 weeks post-op revision from sleeve to bypass. I have only lost 14 lbs in total since surgery. I have been following my plan and increasing my protein. I brought up my concerns at my follow up and the surgeon said I most likely will not lose anymore weight. I am extremely frustrated and discouraged. Only thing is my gerd is better but I am and was hoping for additional weight loss since I gained about 50 lbs since my original sleeve surgery 5 years ago.. due to pregnancy and gerd. Anyone else in this boat or experience this on their journey that can help me out!

Hi all. I used this forum for support during my VSG journey. It took me 13 months to get to goal. I was 234 and made it to 135 in 2012. I kept that off for the most part for about 7 years but slowly gained 10 pounds a year for the last few years. I weighed 177 when I had ESG revision two weeks ago tomorrow. I have lost to 169 so far. I want to be a part of this forum again. It helped me so much the first time. I only have 35 pounds to lose now. I hope to make it there by February. About 6 months. Who else has had this done? I had sleeve to bypass revision on Aug 29. I have only lost 14 lbs. I had the revision due to severe reflux.. my dr told me he doubted I would lose anymore than I already have at my follow up Monday. It was really discouraging. I have about 80 lbs to lose and hearing I probably wouldn’t lose more with this surgery was a blow. I have been getting my fluids and proteins in with no issues. I don’t feel like I have restriction either. The scale hasn’t budged since I was 1 week post op. My concerns were shrugged off at my drs office and I didn’t know where else to turn. On 01/02/13 I had the sleeve done and unfortunately it just didn't really take. Of the 365lbs I started at, my lowest weight was still in the 290's post op. Last June my mother died unexpectedly and young just like her father and brother (all cardiac traumas and it runs significantly on my fathers side too). It scared me into getting myself together and getting back on track, which I've been doing. Last night, I felt something that only existed in the lives of other fat people? My stomach fat has fallen down and a rash has started [emoji35]! I need revision based on 2 hernias and GERD! I stopped fighting for my revision due to moving, starting a new job and depression. My former bartric surgeon stated, "you need a robotic revision." He was no help at all. As of today, my new PCP has referred me to a specialist. Now, it's just a matter of how do I pay for it. I have insurance but is a tangled mess. It will get done. I am just holding on and doing the paperwork. One day at a time.

Endoscopy revised gastric bypass…. Anyone in my boat ?

I had a sleeve revision to bypass in mid April. Weight was coming off and I could feel restriction although very different from sleeve. Fast forward to now (4 mos) and I’ve been stalled for a month & restriction seems nonexistent. I am aware restriction goes away after a period of time but did not expect this fast. Anyone gone through the same & can offer tips? Thanks

Hey there. I am new here and not sure about posting but I feel like I am all alone. I had surgery 10 years ago, I didn’t ever lose that much weight with it and ended up getting sick and not being able to keep up with my running which I miss more than anything. Anyway, I am 20 lbs over the weight I was before my surgery. I am always so tired and I could sleep anywhere at anytime, although the test said I didn’t have sleep apnea. My BMI is a shameful 45. Hi y’all. My original surgery was an RNY done on August 1, 2017, so 5 years post op now. Recently I’ve been having a very nasty acidic metallic type taste in my mouth every day. I’m being told that sounds like acid reflux. I’ve never had it before so don’t know. Hi, folks. I got a lap band in 2014 and did well for a few years but the band "migrated" and I had to have it removed. Now I'm going in for gastric bypass 2/3. I am excited to get my body in a healthier place but I'm nervous about the massive changes I will have to learn to live well. The band simply wouldn't allow me to get most things I wanted to eat through. It was more of a surgical device for bulimia than a life-style change tbh. Can you folks who have gone through a band to traditional gastric bypass (not sleeve) surgery tell me what you found to be the MOST helpful tool to maximize your success? Hi guys, So Aetna denied surgery conversion to bypass because they need "extra" proof of my GERD. They recently changed their rules and are asking for a PH Probe 24hr monitoring with abnormal results. I talked to my GI, and he told me that in order to do this test, I need to temporarily stop using medications that suppress stomach acid for about a week before the test; WHAT!? I can barely leave without them (I take a double dose, morning and night, and I am still waking up choaking most of the time, I have horrible reflux, etc.) and they will make me go through this just to prove that I have horrible GERD? Hi everyone, I have a revision scheduled for 8/8 which is almost exactly 4 years after my VSG. I have had acid reflux the whole time and it’s been way worse the past year. As far as weight loss is concerned I only ended up losing about 40 pounds at my lowest and I’ve gained back about 15 of them. I am hoping for no more reflux and some additional weight loss. Hi everyone, I am wanting to get a revision surgery done from a Vertical Banded Gastroplasty to a Gastric Bypass . I had the VBG done 30 years ago, unfortunately required a couple revisions back then as the staple lining had come undone. I have been having issues for years, food getting stuck, having to purge regularly, herd etc…. I met with a General Surgeon who said, nope, too much scar tissue. Has anyone gotten the same answer but then found a bariatric surgeon to do the revision? After the revision did you lose all your weight, or only a small amount? Any help regarding this would be so helpful to me. Thanks so much!

I did a revision from VSG to RNY two years ago. I NEVER had GERD before.. but I have it now!!!! My throat feels swollen all the time. I have appt to get upper GI imaging, but I'm kind of freaking out in the meantime. I'm on pepcid and omeprazole and it's BARELY allowing me to eat/function normally.

Hello, I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on 10/27/21, only 3 weeks ago. I also had hiatal hernia repair, and gallbladder removal all at once. I am feeling good, no vomiting. Still on liquid stage, proceeding to soft solids soon. However, I am feeling GERD again! and worried the revision will not successfully resolve this frustrating issue. The nurse said to give it time. Did anyone have GERD weeks after their revision surgery? If so, did it resolve with time? Please I need some feedback! Thanks!

I had lap band in New York (2012) and recently had to have it removed, but I am looking to revise to sleeve once my stomach heals. Hi, I’m looking for others who’ve had a revision WITHIN the first year of their original VSG? My reflux is AWFUL! And my weight has been at a stall since month 4. A lot of that due to food choices. The worst the reflux has gotten, the worse the carbs have gotten. Anyone had a revision so soon and was able to get back on track? My revision is due to reflux.

Does this make sense? I live in Atlanta, GA and I've had two consultations for sleeve revisions. Both doctors are pushing for an ESG. To me it doesn't make sense. Sure it's less invasive and through the endoscopy route, but, I'm a little apprehensive. Neither of them said it will help GERD nor did they mention a good weight loss. An average of 15-20% weight loss is not good stats to me because it'll only give me approximately 40 lb weight loss. It seems like a quick fix that won't last long. Hi, I had my gastric sleeve in March 22,21. My recovery was great and I didn’t had any pain or complications at all. I have lost like 60lbs so far. The problem is I have severe GERD. Since the day of my surgery I been taking PPI, now twice a day . Few days ago I had my one year visit with my surgeon and I he suggested that I should do a revision because taking the PPI long term is not ideal and he said that small percent of patients with gastric sleeve end up with severe GERD and I was one of them. I went from 265lbs to 175lbs - I’m 24 and 5’2, barely any loose skin, and I’m very happy with the results. I was sleeved in September of 2015. Weight loss was moderately successful with some regain. High weight was 300, surgery weight 277, got down to 210 and I'm currently at 233. Goal was 185. I have had some issues with GERD like others. Recently though my hiatal hernia has worsened and I am only able to eat very small amounts of food at any given meal. I’ve had a lap band for 11 yrs. I’ve begun to have problems ( band intolerance) and also have gained 30 of 100 pounds back. I’m not considered obese anymore but I am wanting the band out and feel that I need the sleeve so that I don’t gain it all back. I’m disabled and have Medicare. Does anyone have experience with this. Insurances seem to want you to gain it all back ( to have a higher bmi again ) before they will cover. They covered the band. Wouldn’t it make sense to cover the revision.

On 2/15/22 I underwent revision from VSG to RNY due to hiatal hernia and reflux issues. My surgery weight was around 230 lbs, actually a few less due to three days of liquid diet. In the 5 months since revision surgery I've lost about 40 lbs, but have been at a steady weight for over five weeks. I'm currently around 15 to 20 lbs away from my final goal. I had a post surgery follow up with the surgeons office and they just suggested I try to stay closer to the dietary guidelines. I am going in for a revision in 2 weeks and hoping some of you may be able to tell me about your experience. VSG in Dec 2016, lost 70lbs and then got pregnant. Did not gain any back until COVID. Hi All, I had a lap band removal and revision to the GSV on 6/6/22. The GSV laparoscopic scars healed/ scabbed over quickly, but the large cut/ open wound left to heal after the lap band removal is super painful and gross. It is deep, has to be packed with sterile gauze and dressed every 1-2 days. My doctor says it’s healing nicely and that pain is just part of the process. I have googled and not found any information on this process. Has anyone else had the revision and had to deal with the open wound? Are there any other options like wearing a drain? This pain is worse than my 2 C-sections! I feel like this part was glossed over and not even addressed in my pre-op vi…

I am scheduled for revision from sleeve to rny on Aug 10th. My question is, how soon is it safe to travel? I am scheduled for a long driving trip about week 7 post surgery. (Trip was scheduled months before gettin insurance approval and surgery date.) I plan on taking frequent breaks and overnight stops as well as sharing driving responsibilities. Is there any real concerns as long as I follow diet and fluid intake protocols? I recovered quickly after my sleeve surgery, but I have no idea what to expect with the revision. Hi All - I'm sure this has been asked and answered - but here goes: I was banded in January of 2007 and had pretty good success with it. I lost 140lb - and maintained my weight at around 230-240lbs (I'm 6'2") for many years but after COVID lockdowns my weight started to creep back up to around 260lbs and I developed night coughs/reflux. I went to my surgeon a couple of months ago and he unfilled me which cured the reflux, but I immediately gained 10 lbs. He also did an endoscopy to make sure nothing was wrong. I have been denied coverage from BCBS insurance company for requesting lapband to bypass revision. Because they can find nothing wrong with my band, they won’t do the surgery. Even though the band is okay, I’m not. It has caused esophageal dilation and dysmotility. I lost weight with the band but I was vomiting a lot at night. Id wake up from a dead sleep vomiting out of my nose and mouth at least three nights a week. Very scary due to possibly getting that into my lungs. Has anyone else filed an appeal that was accepted by insurance?

Hello! Has anyone ever been able to get a conversion surgery approved on an insurance that has a "once per lifetime max" on bariatric surgery? I had the sleeve in 2018 and now suffer from severe GERD/acid reflux. No meds are taking care of it. The insurance has denied the claim once already because its not "medically necessary". Anyone know of tips or tricks?

Almost 8 yrs VSG and had severe GERD beforehand. It significantly decreased post op but I've remained on PPI medication the entire time. I was down to 1-2 total doses per week, however I had some regain over the last year and am up to THREE TIMES daily!! It's everything to do with how I carry my weight- all in my middle. While I was quite satisfied with the GERD being almost totally resolved initially, I'm fearful that even IF I lose the current regain it won't go away to the extend that it was in the past. I had RNY over 12 yrs ago and lost all of my weight due to surgery. Lost so much that I looked horrible, I was down to 130 and my body frame cant be that low. I had to force myself to gain, I got to a good weight 145-155 is my best range. I had gained about 60 lbs, then lost 20-30 lbs. and plato. I want to get back to a healthier weight, would like to have a revision if possible. Can you go from RNY to the Sleeve or only do a revision of the RNY. I was sleeved 9 yrs ago & lost about 90 pounds, but was not able to get to my goal I exercised diligently, ate right, & kept active. I gained back about 20% per the statistics. However, colon cancer came knocking & with chemo, inactivity & 7 mos of steroids, I gained all my weight back. I am scheduled for revision to bypass on April 14th. I know the surgery is a tool which will allow me to lose a lot of weight quickly, but after the honeymoon phase, I am wondering what tools/skills I have to change my behavioral & mental habits to make lifelong change & success. Has there ever been an issue to where people have chronic back pain issues after the sleeve? I had a gastric lap band to sleeve revision about 10 years out. I've had back spasms in my back. It is in my back and in my upper leg and thigh area. Can you get the gastric sleeve be revised to other procedures? Can you get it revised to a gastric bypass? I had a band placed in 2010 and had to have it removed because of complications and converted to a sleeve in 2015. Hi 7 years ago I had a sleeve gastrectomy, I had a great result and kept the weight off till this year where I have rapidly regained around half of my loss of 100lbs. I am considering a revision to MGB. I was wondering how it 'FEELS' - do you feel full in the same way as you did with your sleeve? How was recovery compared to your sleeve? Hey all, I'm back because I've developed severe GERD, esophagitis and a large hiatal hernia. I had an endoscopy this past Tuesday and they found my hiatal hernia was classified as large, several superficial ulcers, severe reflux/GERD. The esophagram I had a few weeks ago showed esophageal spasms and the results of the endoscopy indicate the spasms are due to the acid reflux. I frequently throw up my food due to the coughing triggered by the spasms. Fun times I tell ya!
