It's been a long while that I have been off this forum but thought I'd come back for support and information. Can anyone tell me if they had a hernia after bypass. What symptoms did you have & did it need to be removed?

I went in for surgery on Thursday the 29th to convert my sleeve to a gastric bypass due to weight loss failure. When I woke up from anesthesia I got the bad news that my surgeon was unable to do the surgery safely. When he got in my belly he found all of the mesh from my hernia surgeries as well as a new recurring hernia I didn't know I had. Apparently I have adhesions of the mesh to my bowel. He says he can repair it and isn't giving up on me but we need a plan B. I cried the entire day I was so upset. Waking up to pain and incisions only to discover the surgery didn't happen after so much preparation for that day I was completely overwhelmed with a feeling of grief. I'm…

I went for all my testing on July the 7th for my Gerd and went to see my doctor and hes gonna write Things up and send them to my insurance company he said we're not gonna put it down as weight loss I also have a hernia and I have high blood pressure so hopefully I will get approved.

So, I am 5 weeks out of bypass revision. I feel great (a little stall, but I hear thats normal and I am not worried). I am happy. Just an observation, I dont get that full feeling as fast as I did like the original, the delayed fullness is weird. Me and the Dr. have talked about it and I understand why. I have had one hick up with overeating and that sh*t was painful for a good 45 mins. How are you managing this change if you are experiencing it at all?

On November 11, 2008 I was banded and lost 40 pounds. I loved my band until 2015 when my port became painful unrelated to the fills. The pain was everyday for the past 8 years. My healthcare Team was not able to determine why I’m having continuous pain in the port. Anyway, on February 1, 2023 I’m having the band removed and the gastric sleeve done on the same day. I am not afraid of the surgery because this will be number 16, but I am concerned about is the port. I am hoping the doctor will see what had been causing me port pain.

I had a RYGB in 2005 and had pretty much kept the weight off until this past Pandemic/COVID19. I went from 160lbs to 217lbs, with constant GERD, heartburn and a fistula. I decided to get a limb lengthening done since the gastric pouch/stomach had not changed in size at all per Dr. Proctor. On January 1st, 2022, I stopped drinking wine and went into the 2 shakes daily (modified diet) then on the week prior to surgery changed to 3 shakes daily. Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a few weeks, but this is my first time posting. I had gastric sleeve last year, January 5, 2022, knowing there was a possibility I may have to eventually convert. I really wish I would have just done bypass initially, but I was so worried about complications and was having a hiatal hernia repair at the same time as surgery and I guess I just hoped that would take care of my reflux issue, which wasn't severe at that point. I have an appointment next week to discuss revision of RNY. What do I have to say or do to convince the surgeon I need this revision??! I had my original surgery in 2014. I lost 100lb in about 8 mo. Just found out I need a hiatal hernia repair surgery. Had an upper Gi and the dr said stomach is very small and had a hard time "finding it". Also a lot of scar tissue. I am 6 years post RNY (12 yrs post gastric banding). I kept my 75 lb weightloss off until covid. I lost additional weight during covid due to stress and trauma and now I have gained it all back and then some. Hi all newbie here. I had the sleeve surgery back in 2015. I did super well until 2020 when I was placed on a depression/anxiety monthly injection that caused some serious side effects. Unknown to the doctors, therapists and myself one of the non-listed side effects were to lose weight. At this point I was already at goal of 160# but the injection made me loose down to 121# within 2 months. I had become super weak, with almost no mobility. I had the gastric sleeve in 2017 and lost around 69 pounds. Unfortunately, I have been unable to keep it off. As I lost my momentum during 2020 and haven't found it since. I currently have an hiatal hernia which is causing some reflux and swelling. My doctor has recommended a revision to the sleeve. I am currently taking methotrexate, hydroxychloroquine, and folic acid for Rheumatoid Arthritis. I am also in menopause. I have some concerns regarding the proposed revision. Just had an interesting and instructive experience. I’m starting my fourth week post op and am allowed cream of wheat (which I loved as a child, and apparently still do). I’ve been told to keep my meals to 1/2-3/4 a cup but was enjoying this so much and the recipe/serving on the box was for 1 cup so I made one cup. After having my 3/4 cup (thinned) a bit faster than my usual 10 min between 2-4 tablespoon fulls as a time I decided to have the last 1/4 (the rest). Mistake, 10 min later I start sweating, little pain in my chest and generally not feeling great. It all passed in about 30 min but I am grateful for the gentle yet firm lesson from my body that 3/4 is my limit for…

So Frustrated. Had VSG several years ago in Mexico, but struggling. My primary care dr referred me to the local Bariatric surgeon in my area, and they're the only ones covered by my insurance. After I told them I was sleeved in Mexico originally, they refused to see me. I'm sad and frustrated. I really don't want to go to Mexico again for a revision (not that it wasn't a good first experience, just I have a family and kids now, so the cash isn't there to get it like it used to be.) I'm flying to Turkey next month to have my revisional surgery from sleeve to Gastric Bypass. However, I'm actually terrified. Like, I'm just so scared. Omg the healing process is so much different and painful. I had my revision on 9.17.2020 and the pain has me so uncomfortable to move, talk, cough,anything. I cant even lay down. I literally have a cloud of covers and pillows on the couch to keep me propped for comfort. I am really hoping for weight loss as I am working on my discipline this time around cause I failed my sleeve unfortunately and I am not in denial about it.

I've had lapband surgery in 2009, lost almost 100 pounds, band slipped, had it removed and had the sleeve in April 2021. Stalled at 40 pounds and now I'm trying Mounjaro. Its a miracle drug used for Type 2 Diabetes and is very expensive. Waiting for it to be approved for Weighltoss in order for it to be covered by insurance. I've got more to say, but I'm at work. Anyone have issues with sleeve and tried this medication? Anyone try Mounjaro or similar and whats their experience?

Surgery went well. Some pain in the larger 4mm incision where he put in the stapler but Tylenol and some IV pain meds and I’m ok. Heading home now (1 overnight) have a timer set for every 15min for my Fluid. A bit scared I’ll burst my pouch (I can be a worrier) but so far so good. Gonna miss taking big slugs of Water but not going to miss the GERD.

Hi. I'm having a Sleeve to Bypass revision on 01/16/23 due to severe reflux. I was wondering if anyone has had this revision surgery and if they have noticed a difference? Good? Bad? I’m having my 2013 sleeve converted to bypass on 1/9/2023 because of GERD. I’m not too happy that I have to go through with this as I never wanted a full bypass and have enjoyed being able to still eat a some what normal diet (albeit with less volume than pre sleeve). I’m down between 60-70 lbs from my top weight pre sleeve. Not as much as I really need to feel good in my body but certainly healthier. a few questions: Anyone done this and can share their experience? Will I ever be able to eat again? Had my revision 11/30. That was fun, not! ? I’m on soft foods, it’s going well, everything I’ve tried is tolerated well. I’m curious what others experience as far as feeling hunger signals. I have yet to feel one little tinge of hunger. I get other queues from my body like feeling tired, dizzy, shaky, that kind of need to eat feeling. Hello Everyone! I had roux en y gastric bypass back in 2011 and have since had multiple complications that I had to have surgery to fix such as gallbladder removal and repairing a perforated ulcer. Has anyone had any success in getting revision surgery after roux-en-y with Medicaid or Tricare covering the revision? Start weight was 315. I’m having my revision from sleeve to bypass a week from today. Going over all the dietary changes and potential unknowns, I’m just not looking forward to this at all. I just had an awesome consultation for revision! My doctor doesn't think I'm going to have any issues with approval from Anthem BCBS. I have to do a few classes next week and then she'll submit for pre-approval to see if we're up against any roadblocks. After that I need an upper endoscopy and some nutritional classes but not much else! She said it would probably be 3 to 5 months before surgery. I'm hoping for closer to the 3 months because I'd like to be all healed up and fairly adjusted to the new lifestyle before we go camping all summer! [emoji846]

So, I am scheduled for my rny revision on March 21st. Had my pre-op today. It's going to be out patient, a simpler procedure than my original bypass. Still have to do the modified liquid diet pre-op for 14 days: 2 meals protein drinks, 1 light meal (3 oz lean meat, 1 cup veggies) or another protein drink. I had my original RNY in 2010. Lost 120 lbs. In the past 12 years I have had a baby, my parents moved in with me and my weak ankle and flat foot got progressively worse until I was limited to swimming and yoga for exercise. I gained 60 lbs back and my gastric reflex was getting bad. I had an upper GI and found 1. Hiatal hernia (rare for RNY) and my pouch was 3x the size my surgeon would like and my stomach 2x. On November 14th I had a gastric bypass revision. I had one incision that brought more pain than the others. Days later I found out that it was infected which led me now having to pack the wound daily. During the revision the surgeon told me he got rid of a lot of scar tissue from the previous surgery and fixed a hernia. The one thing I’ve have an issue with now is that I don’t feel the same restriction I felt during the first surgery and that scares me. It’s starting to make me feel like the revision didn’t happen. I am 2 years out from gastric sleeve surgery. 100lbs down. Original weight 383 and today 277-281. I have not overstretched my sleeve and I excercise 3-4 times a week. I can break the 277. All of my labs are great. Cholesterol, Glucose, Sodium, vitamins, blood counts. However, my high blood pressure has returned, I still have GERD and sleep apnea. I am considering a revision to a DS. When I had my sleeve, I was excited for it. I wasn’t overjoyed - I’d rather have never been obese in the first place ? - but I wanted to have it, took it very seriously, made all sorts of commitments to myself that were destined to fail (I’ll never have a cookie again - yeah, sure buddy). I am 18 month post op from the sleeve and have lost over 90 lbs. They said I am doing great and am at goal. I see the plastic surgeon Monday. However I do not feel so great. I had GERD before surgery and was doing great up until like 2 months ago. Now I can barely eat with out feeling sick. Hello, on Sept 14th I had a revision from the lap-band to the Gastric Sleeve. Pre-surgery liquid diet I went from 235 to 212 on the liquid diet for about 10 days. I have only lost a total of 2 pounds, and I am 7 weeks out. I am very frustrated at this point. I am doing everything I am supposed to be doing. I could walk a little more, but other than that I am only consuming around 800 calories a day. I am not comprehending the science of this. I burn around 1600 calories a day, so why am I not losing weight? After your revision, how long did it take for you to hit your goal weight?im a little over halfway to goal at the 5.5 month mark so I feel like I am on track. Just curious what everyone else is experiencing.

I was hoping to get folks' opinion on the mini-bypass vs the bypass. Because I'm considering a revision, my thinking is I'd rather have the less dramatic revision. There are fewer adverse effects and nutritional requirements with the mini, and if in the future for some reason I need to convert to a full bypass, that option is on the table. On the other hand, I regret not going with the bypass 6 years ago. I didn't know how bad my GERD would get, but I also didn't think I'd regain as much weight as I did (40 pounds out of 140 lost). Who else has thought about these alternatives? What did you go with and why?

I hate this fight. My insurance can pay for my revision. However, I am tired of this 3 year fight. I currently have an advocate fighting with me. It's not just about weight loss. I am fighting for my quality of life. I work and pay for my insurance. How dare they act like I don't have a disease called obesity!

Sooooo I had the band placed in 2008, did pretty will with it, (so I thought) lost about 50 pounds and held in the 180’s. However, it turns out I really didn’t do well with the band. Almost everything made me vomit. The vomiting continued until I had a hiatal hernia. Band was loosened, the weight came back. They retighten the band, and weight hasn’t budged. Had the revision done at 7 30 am this morning weighing in at 180 my original goal weight. The first 12 hours were horrible. This was a very painful surgery for me and I don't know if it was because they also took the hernia I had. ( I believe they said they took it and not fixed it but I am still on the drugs. ) I have been given morphine to start with then they switched me to dillata because the morphine wasn't cutting it. I am back on liquid hydro now. I wasn't able to urinate either for the first several hours and I am still having a hard time with it. I have been crying through most of the day. Hi everyone, I had my sleeve surgery in 2014, and revised to bypass in 2017 because of severe GERD. Before my revision, I was vomiting up food and had horrible reflux, and the revision did help some with my symptoms. I have been on a PPI since my revision, and for the last couple of years my GERD has gotten a lot worse and I am dealing with a lot of burning and gagging at night on acid despite being on 40mg of omeprazole and pepcid twice a day. I have a consult with a doctor in early October to talk about the Linx surgery as a possible option, and I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or contemplated the Linx after having a revision to bypass. I was approved today for my revision. I had a sleeve done in 2017. HW 255, LW 160, CW 210 ?. Anyway, I’ve had this horrible GERD and put off my revision all through COVID, I have Barrett’s esophagus, I’ll vomit from the reflux, bad teeth, and sores in my throat. Wow, my first wls was done on 08/01/2014. My highest recorded weight was 289 and that was underestimate. I am currently 215. I have GERD & 2 hernias! I am in pain each day. I work full-time and have insurance. I found a new doctor. It appears, he is in my corner. I have 2 avenues to pay for this revision. Remember that you are important and obesity is a real disease. Three years ago I was revised from VSG to RNY for GERD. I’m very pleased that I am still GERD free and no new problems (let’s hope it stays that way) Everything feels very normal now and I can barely feel any major difference from VSG let alone life prior to WLS. I know it’s different but I’ve settled in. I moved early 2021 so I’m establishing care with a new bariatric practice for continued yearly monitoring/testing. I don’t see a lot of revision postings by anyone as far out as I am, so if anyone is out there please let all know how it’s going and if anyone has questions feel free to ask ❤️

So, I have seen a lot of people getting the revision from sleeve to bypass due to GERD and I have seen people getting the sleeve to bypass revision due to weight gain years after the original surgery. I am not experiencing either of these issues. I had my surgery in the middle of 2021. I was around 300 pounds then. It is now more than a year later. I have only lost around 70 pounds. I am still losing, but very slowly. I feel like due to my starting weight, I should have lost more than that in this time period. 20 yrs post op...went for a scope yesterday with new Bariatric Dr...have gained back 70lbs in last 4yrs... 55yrs old...he told me I had ulcer...he could burn off part off my stomach so I could lose weight???... only if I quit smoking...
