I have read many posts on here about slowly losing weight after revision, if we work harder at gym and stay on track for diet, is it possible to lose more weight faster? I’m scheduled for June 9th revision surgery, and hope to lose weight as well as fixing GERD and hiatal hernia. I also have gained some weight back since I was sleeved. Thanks In advance for your thoughts and opinions.

Woohoo! I have insurance approval and a surgery date of July 6! Lapband coming out, fixing a hernia, and getting revised to a gastric bypass. Should be $0 out of pocket. I've been working toward this since November. So relieved, excited, and ready.

Unfortunately I put some weight back on and am considering revision surgery. I have it nailed down to a mini bypass in Mexico or a kind of newer procedure involving endobariatrics in North Carolina. I am not sure what's better for me long term. It seems like the doctors are competing and trying to sell me something.

On Monday I had my lap band removed, my hiatal hernia repaired and gastric bypass done. One night in the hospital and back home at 7:45 the next evening. Not a ton of pain but managing with gabapentin and Tylenol with oxycodone available. Right after, I felt I had eaten 3 Thanksgiving dinners, that is slowly going away. I’ve stuck to water and decaf iced tea with one Muscle Milk shake. I’ll do more shakes but preferably not those horrid BA meal replacement shakes. Staff at Fair Oaks Hospital were the most awesome group of people I’ve been with and I’m very grateful for them and my doctors. I had RNY 21 years ago, I'm scheduled for a revision from proximal RNY (standard one most people get) to a Distal RNY where they make the roux limb longer by bypassing more small intestine than they do on the standard RNY. I'm getting this distal revision done Monday March 21st (6 more sleeps! Yikes!). My Dr says he does them as out patient, which kinda boggles my mind (I figured at least an overnight stay), and I'll go home same day. Has anyone else experienced this? I know there aren't many distal rivisioners that I've run across.

Yesterday was my sleeve to RNY. Less pain overall but still painful where the drain is and gas pains. Walking has been easier. Ice chips are easier. Nausea sometimes gets me. Will keep you all posted with process and success!

Just looking for anyone with experience going through this. Did it work? I'm 5'6 350lbs. LapBand 2009. Started at 300, lowest weight was 230 after LB. Need to lose the weight ASAP to get double knee replacement. I was looking to have LapBand revision to bypass, but surgeon said metabolism slows down after first surgery. And I need all the help I can get to lose some major weight. So he suggested and I agreed to the DS. Starting pre-op diet in 2 days for LapBand removal in a month. My liver is huge. DS should be 3 months later, if all goes well. Any journeys would be great to hear about ?

I received gastric sleeve surgery back in 2014. After finding out that I have another hernia and bad acid reflux and some weight gain I was informed to look into the bypass. I just received my approval for a June surgery date and I’m terrified. Has anyone else gone through something similar if so do you have any advice?

Brief background, got lapband about 11 years ago (starting BMI was 43). I did well and kept off 55 pounds (BMI 33)... until I started aspirating at night. I have severe GERD and associated damage, no regain. Approval took 9 calendar days. Surgery is March 1st! My surgeon is having me do her 10 day pre op diet so I have that to look forward to. LOL

My weight the morning of surgery was 310lbs. I lost over 100 lbs in the first 10 months and got down to my lowest weight of 153lbs about 2 years after surgery. I was feeling fabulous! However, over the years, I was able to maintain at about 170-180lbs consistently, until I gave birth to my son in 2012. I had the ESG with Dr. McGowan in Cary, NC Oct 14, 2021. VERY happy with him, all his staff and everyone at the Wake Med hospital. FIRST CLASS all the way! That being said. I had VSG in November 2016. I never really lost the weight I had hoped (lost about 30 pounds). I'm sure a lot of it has to do with my choices because I really want to get the extra weight off. I recently met with my surgeon to discuss my options and after having a Bravo Endoscopy, we learned I have extremely bad acid reflux (I didn't need a procedure to learn that but whatever). He also stated that I have a hiatal hernia. Today he advised me to undergo gastric bypass which will completely eradicate the reflux. Can somebody please help me….I’m reading so many different things on revision wls and I’m so confused! I know weight- loss is slower, but it’s been coming off pretty good for me so far (55lbs dwn) since Nov.8th. I’m stalling now for the 2nd week! (Frustrating, but expected). My original RNY was done in December 2000, and it was very successful, I lost 12 stone and life was good! Yesterday my surgeon did my hernia repair surgery to repair a substantial Hiatal Hernia and to do a revision from Sleeve to RNY. What I found out after surgery was there wasn't actually any hernia repair completed, just the revision. I was told by the surgeon's PA that conversion from sleeve to bypass pretty much permanently resolves most potential hiatal hernia issues. Recovery and first night seemed very similar to what I underwent with the sleeve in 2015. I do believe I am more sore at a couple of the incision sites than I was the first time. For those that have developed a marginal ulcer after revision, what did you drink? I'm losing my mind. Even my shakes I put a shot of espresso. I live for coffee. Seems like most tea is off limits. I need suggestions. It's been 2 months of this & surgeon just said at least another 3 months of carafate 3 times a day hoping it will heal by then because it's still angry

After your revision how much extra weight did you loose after? Did it come off slower than the first surgery?

I had a revision from sleeve to mini bypass over two weeks ago and have followed everything to a "t" including daily walks and have lost like 3lbs!!!! When I had my sleeve 7years ago I was prolly 15 lbs down the first two weeks!!! Can someone say something to make me feel better ❤️‍?

I just had the gastric sleeve surgery three months ago. I tend to find myself being really concerned about stretching my stomach or doing something that will cause a downfall. For those preparing to have revision surgery, is there any advice you can give regarding what led to having to have revision surgery? I had my big pre-op appointment with the nurse and surgeon today. They've made some major improvements to the program. They have a stricter infection control protocol. No shaving for a full week before surgery, using the incentive spirometer more before and after, using special soap the night before and morning of surgery. Pain control is totally different. No more pain pump button. I'll get IV pain meds until the leak test the next morning. Then after that it's Tylenol and Flexeril, with the possibility of something stronger if that combination doesn't work well. I'll be taking Colace twice a day for 30 days to prevent constipation. Hi, I'm new! I had a sleeve in 2008 and it gave me GERD. I ended up gaining more weight than I lost due to severe anemia and pica. Then I did keto and lost 225lbs but it still isn't enough. I also have a hernia but it isn't really impactful. I told my doctor that I want revision surgery (but i didn't mention gerd or the hernia, just weight loss) and he is like, "see a dietitian." Also I do not have the same doctor or even live in the same area as I did in 2008. Literally any advice or comments are appreciated here.

Date of Surgery 12/27/21 The plan was to have band removed and sleeve done on the same day, what was not planned was the removal of 6 inches of intestines because of blockage due to scar tissue from previous surgery, was inpatient for 5 days. I had a positive COVID test over a month ago! I have lost 18 pounds. I am so happy with the weight-loss. I still need to lose more. Revision was my goal. Does not look like that is going to happen! COVID sucks. Some people die or never fully recover. With my sleeve and after COVID the only thing I can eat is fish, over cooked veggies and a little rice. I don't know how to set a weight-loss goal on something that might Plateau at any moment! Has anyone experienced having COVID and been sleeved? Can you write about your experience? I had my VSG on 4/8/2013. I lost @50 pounds and gained back about 20. I have several underlying medical issues which complicate my exercise but overall I am usually good with my food intake. Over the last year, I have developed what I think is acid reflux. It is so bad that I can't lie down and my healthy eating is now becoming more bland carb-focused because that's what I tolerate best. Even drinking a protein shake can be bothersome. I have NEVER experienced this before, not during any of my 3 pregnancies or at my heaviest weight. I am miserable! Hello! I am looking to introduce myself and possibly get some advice or insight from others! I had a VSG in October of 2016. Weight DOS was 288, lowest weight I reached was 198 within about 6 months of the procedure. I developed terrible reflux that I managed with OTC medications, and maintained this weight loss almost effortlessly (I did go to the gym 4-5x weekly and ate small portions - stuck to the rules as best as I could) until the end of 2019. But to backtrack a little - I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2018, so by the time I was through with chemo, steroids, horrible lethargy...you get the picture... the weight piled back on within a year …

I had surgery 2 days ago, which went better than expected. Mine was done primarily for GERD, but also because my weight was going up. My weight when I left for the hospital on Monday was 254. When I got on the scale this morning it was 264! I know this is all due to fluids taken at the hospital, but I was still surprised by how much! Any thought on how long it will take to lose this?

I am revising my sleeve to a DS on Feb 7th. I feel like I am going into this surgery with my eyes more open than before. that is good and bad. I know I can and will lose weight. but what if I can't keep it off? last time I maintained for years until pregnancies and miscarriages messed me up. I had sleeve surgery five years ago. Went from a high of 392 down to 315. I am 6’7” but still to heavy. Since Covid I’m back to 345. I know I need to shed pounds. My cholesterol is high and I am pre diabetic. On Thursday I have my Bypass surgery. Needless to say, im nervous. I know rare but I worry about complications but I believe complications from my weight outweigh it. Anyone else having surgery this week?

Could anyone give me any insight on how this will work? The differences between the sleeve recovery verses the revision recovery? I had revision surgery on Nov.8th sleeve to bypass due to Gerd and a Hiliatal Hernia. After doing some research it suggest that revision patients tend to loose weight at a slower pace than other weight loss patients. Has anyone else heard that? Started going to eating disorder therapy to try and see why I had such an unhealthy relationship with food. My weight finally settled at 200-210lbs but of course I was never satisfied. Hello everyone. I was revised from VSG (Aug 2019) to RNY (Sept 2021). I was wondering if it is typical not to feel any restriction. I am 2.5 weeks post-op and I can easily consume 100g of protein since the day I returned home from surgery which amazes me as I could not consume 100g of protein with VSG until 2 months post-op. When I get hungry, I eat and I stop when I feel I've had enough and I always measure/track so I know exactly how much I'm consuming. I never feel full. I just feel not hungry. It's difficult to explain. Is it typical not to feel restriction? When does restriction typically come or does it at all? Do you ever feel "full" as with VSG? TIA

Hi all, I had my gastric sleeve in 2013 and went from 270 to 155. I started struggling to keep the weight off less than a year out from surgery. Eight years later, I've gained half of it back, weighing in at 210. My original surgeon doesn't do revisions so I decided to have an endoscopic sleeve gastrectomy to retighten my stomach and get off the regain (performed by a gastroenterologist). Unfortunately private insurance doesn't cover these so I paid >$10,000 out of pocket. Has anyone had success with an ESG post-sleeve? Surgery was Monday 12/13. Today is Wednesday 12/15. I feel like I got hit by a truck. I had a hiatal hernia repair and tightening of my pouch and stoma. I can’t keep anything thicker than water down and that includes liquid pain medication. I did not have this problem first time around. Is it just swelling or did he make it too small?

Hi So i am planning on getting the sleeve. But i keep hearing about people needing revisions to bypass. Those that got the revision. Why? This worries me because i am paying cash for my sleeve which is roughly $20K and i dont have the money for a revision if that will be needed. Makes me not want to get the surgery at all.

I am not sure if I want to have my gastric sleeve resized, have it converted into a DS or possibly have it converted into a RNY. So I was sleeved almost 7 years ago. I've had horrible GERD pretty much ever since. There has also been some weight regain. If my insurance covers the revision surgery, will I have to do the months of supervised weight loss, or would I skip that since it's medically necessary? I'm looking to research all options....I hate having to take pills for the reflux. I know it's a question for my dr or insurance company, just wanted to see everyone else's experience.
