In 2012 I had the gastric sleeve procedure, it was very successful until several events in my life caused me to slip back into old habits. Adding to that, my surgeon closed his practice and I had no one to follow up with locally. The old habits and lack of Followup care led to the weight slowly creeping back on. Since my sleeve procedure I’ve been diagnosed with RA which I have under control for about the past year or more. Earlier this year I began experiencing severe acid reflux and my PCP suggested I see the new BS who had just come to town. The BS advised me (after scoping me) that I have a hiatal hernia that needs to be repaired. He also recommended that I …

Hi everyone, Hope all is well. I was sleeved December 5th 2017, due to GERD. I had a Gastric bypass December 7th( this past Tuesday). Everything went good. I'm sore from the incisions. I continue my walk so I don't get clots. I'm so sleepy. Just wanted to touch base with yall. It's over time to began the process.

I had my gastric bypass in 2000, I was one of the first to do it in the UK. 21 years later and some non weight related illness I have regained half of the weight I lost. I was 300lbs and went to 140lbs. It's only in the past 5 years the regain has really started. I am looking at having a minimizer ring fitted. Has anyone here done this? What was the outcome. Is it like day one after your original surgery? Any information would be greatfully received. Thanks x

I met with the dietitian yesterday. She said she was surprised when she first saw me on her schedule because I just saw her a few weeks ago for the annual visit, but then she saw my surgeon's notes. We talked a bit about how I felt about going through this process again, then we got down to business of talking about the post op diet progression. Things have changed since my sleeve 7 years ago, the diet progression is slower, which I think is a good thing. Last time the progression of full liquid to soft was rather abrupt in my opinion, but this time I'll be gradually thickening the texture of food over a few months. She mentioned baby food as an option and that got me thi…

Anyone else having a revision done in December? I'm having a revision from a sleeve (2016) to RNY due to reflux that is resistant to medication. I would love to connect with anyone else going through this around the same time!

I had the sleeve in 2012. SW 268. I’m 5’2. I got down to 180lbs an kept it there until 2016 when I had a miscarriage, then struggled with infertility. In 2020 I welcomed a baby boy during the pandemic and well all that combined I’ve gained all my weight back ? I feel like a failure. My insurance covers revisions but I don’t know the specifics that are required. In 2019 I had my gallbladder removed and I was diagnosed with NASH at that time. Is NASH considered a comorbidity? Or medical complication? I haven’t been diagnosed with GERD but I know I have it (I choke in acid every night), so I am hopeful I can get an official diagnosis for a revision. I’ve trie…

Hello. I’m new to this forum. Got a lapband in 2011. Overall it’s been successful. Starting weight was 255, I now weigh 198. My weight is stable. But…. I am now having a large amount of reflux and nighttime coughing. I’m worried about my esophagus and I am starting to consider revision surgery. But… my BMI is now 33. Which is great, except I’m discovering that is too low to qualify for revision surgery through insurance. But if I get the lapband taken out without any other help, the weight will not stay off. And I’d much prefer to just have one surgery instead of two. I’m only about 6 lbs under my insurance’s minimum BMI of 35. What …

I was sleeved Oct 2013 & lost 90lbs (gained back 20 lbs) but never got to goal weight or close. I really committed to changing my lifestyle; exercising (running & weight lifting) & used myfitness pal to log food. I felt great & looked great. Then, life unraveled. In 2016 found out my husband of 20yrs was cheating on me, I realized he was an alcoholic & we divorced, I was laid off from my job & then diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. My kids were 10 & 12 at the time & I had no family to help me (both parents deceased & brother lives 3hrs away by plane). I went through 9hr surgery to remove a foot of my colon & then 7 mos of chemo & steroids. I put on 60lbs during chemo &…

Has anyone else experienced this? The majority of my protein is still protein shakes - seven months later and I still cannot eat poultry, beef, most shellfish or pork without needing to go throw up. The only real solid animal-based protein I can 'stomach' is steamed clams and some cured meat. Thanksgiving sucked because I made this amazing turkey and I took one bite and 10 minutes later had to excuse myself to go throw up!

I am 2 weeks post op lapband to bypass conversion. I have experienced dumping about 5 times already and it’s just absolutely so horrible. I’m not drinking while I eat, I’m still on mushy foods. It’s happened to me from tuna fish, last night it was from half a protein shake. I thought it was supposed to be from having too much sugar or fatty foods. Has anyone experienced it this often even while eating what you’re supposed to be eating? It’s so disheartening and is making me regret this surgery so bad. And yes, I know this is a question for my doctor who I will be in touch with. Just looking for any personal experiences and if it got better

I have a call with the Bariatric Dietician on Tuesday to discuss my continued weight loss. My primary care doctor is concerned that I continue to loose weight (8 pounds in 5 weeks) this far out from surgery. I've lost 60 pounds since RNY last year and 97 pounds since my pre-op weight pre-sleeve. The dietician thinks I'm in calorie deficit because I'm very active - I walk 5 miles 4-5 days/week and do Zumba 3 days/week. But I refuse to give up my healthy exercise habits! At 64, I never expected to look athletic and have muscle definition vs. sagging skin. (I still have sagging skin, but the muscle has really helped minimize the flabbiness!) My husband and children are co…

Today is one year since my revision bypass surgery. I've lost 59 pounds since surgery and 95 pounds since my all-time pre-sleeve weight. I am healthy, happy and feel better than I've felt in 20 years! And the great news is - I no longer have GERD! Good luck to all of us who are on this crazy weight loss journey and I'm grateful for this forum to be able to openly share my outcomes. Other social media platforms would never understand our journeys.

I'm going in next Wednesday for revision from sleeve to bypass, very excited to start this journey again! For those who went through this already, I was curious about eating/drinking after the surgery. After my sleeve, they had me eating real food the next day, starting with eggs for breakfast and then for other meals chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, blended very smooth. I was able to take in about 4-6 oz per meal with no problem, also got my liquids and protein in. I know that the bypass pouch is significantly smaller than the sleeve, so I was wondering what the diet is like after surgery. I know they want us to drink 64 oz of water a day, but is that e…

Hi. I guess I should've posted this question in the Revision Forum instead of the Gastric Bypass. So here it is again lol. I had a lap band and then revised to sleeve. Lost over 100 lbs with band and then 40 something more with sleeve. I have to have a revision due to gerd and other complications from my sleeve. Luckily, I did not lose any of my hair on either procedures listed above... And I know losing weight is much slower after each revision so maybe I'll be lucky again this time around. I was wondering if any of you lost your hair after revising from sleeve to bypass. Thank you in advance.

I had the gastric sleeve surgery in February of 2018. I lost 100lbs and was feeling wonderful. I got pregnant with my son in June of 2019 and gained about 55lbs and cannot for the life of me lose the weight. I reached out to my surgeon as at the time of my surgery he told me to "get the sleeve because it is more safe if I plan on getting pregnant" and if I wasn't happy with the results after my pregnancy I could "always come back and get bypass". Well I reached out to my surgeon after about a year of me doing multiple failed diets and said I wanted to make an appointment for a revision surgery. My surgeon then responded with "You have the tool you need to wor…

I had a VSG done back in October 2016. Since, I have developed unbearable reflux to the point where I'm waking up in the middle of the night with my throat on fire and a mouth full of bile. I had a swallow study done in August of 2020, which I was told was normal (recently found out it was FAR from normal...). Fast forward to this past Spring, I saw a new surgeon who said that this anatomy is absolutely not normal for post-sleeve, and that I have an extremely dilated fundus and the beginnings of a hiatal hernia. Has anything like this happened to anyone else? (the part in pink is circled because I wanted to point it out to a friend I sent it to, but ob…

I had my original sleeve done in 2016, went from 290 pre-surgery to 195, felt fantastic, no problems at all, they even invited me to have my picture taken for the doctor's advertising! Then I had some personal and professional problems and managed to gain EVERYTHING back. I met with my doctor and he recommended revision, which I am scheduled for some time in November, currently getting my clearances. He said after my endoscopy we'd discuss whether to re-sleeve or convert to bypass. He said if my sleeve was still intact it would have to be a bypass, but if it was dilated I could choose. I had my endoscopy last week and the sleeve is indeed dilated so now I have …

I had the RNY in 2000. Through the years, I gained about 90 pounds and, in January 2020, had the DS revision. My question is, after almost two years, I am still losing my hair and feeling slow and sluggish. I have a hard time taking iron (because it goes right through me), so instead of taking it, I get iron infusions a few times a year. The vitamins I do take are a multivitamin, biotin, b12, Calcium citrate, and magnesium. I noticed Celebrate Vitamins has a start-up kit for a DS consisting of Multi-ADEK, Iron 60, and Calcium Citrate Soft Chews. It's not cheap, so I wanted to make sure it was exactly what I needed if I got it. Could you help figure out what the…

Hi, I have had the lap band for a little over 10 years. I had lost 100 lbs but gained 30 back. I recently found out my band migrated. I was having severe acid reflux, regurgitation, and sleepless nights of choking and puking. I finally had some testing done & they found my band migrated and there was a hernia above it and my lower esophagus was having issues pushing food through. I got my fluid taken out on Friday & I am finally able to sleep again. I am really shocked about how strange it is to be able to eat things I wasn't able to for 10 years, I am also enjoying taking a drink while eating. I am going to revise to the gastric bypass surgery & wa…

Had the revision a few days ago. I went from vsg to rny. From day one with the sleeve, I was hungry. I don't know why. From beginning to end, the most I could eat was 10 oz with my sleeve, and I still lost weight but I remember it being a struggle to keep under 1200 cal. So with the RNY, the recovery pain isn't much different than the sleeve. Every pain was doable. I didn't feel nauseous, never threw up when I was in the hospital. I do feel like I did 1000 sit-ups. GasX helped a lot. I felt like I could've walked out of the hospital that evening but I had to stay overnight (due to insurance). I walked out of there at 11 am the next day. It's been 4 days, and I'm not hungr…

I had RNY in 1990. Back then RNY surgery involved stapling between pouch and stomach, not separation. It was open surgery and I was in the hospital for 7 days. I had no pre-op or post-op nutritional guidance. I was handed a 1-page low-cal diet and told not to throw up. Two follow visits post-surgery were to check the incision and I was then left to my own devices. I learned on my own to take Vitamin and mineral supplements; no one told me. I lost about 75 lbs from a high weight of 319, stopped losing after about six months, but kept the weight off for about five years before starting to gain it all back again. For the past 20 years, I've yoyo-ed with countless diets …

Has anyone she had a problem with their xiphoid process? The xiphoid process is the smallest region of the sternum, or breastbone. It’s made up of cartilage at birth but develops into bone in adulthood. It’s located where the lower ribs attach to the breastbone. The tip of the xiphoid process resembles a sword. Mine sticks out and feels like a half of a golf ball most days. It is hard, uncomfortable, my bra rubs on it and it makes me nauseous most of the time when eating. My doctor said it can protrude out with weight gain, but should go back down with weight loss. Mine hasn't and I only have about 35 more pounds to go to my goal weight. I am getting surgery to remov…

I had a revision for GERD/hiatal hernia repair/esophageal dysmotility 7/13. The goal with my revision was to continue maintaining my weight. I had been in maintenance for 7 months the day of my revision. I was 144 pounds the day of my revision. At two weeks post op my weight was down to 133. I met with my dietitian who gave me a goal of 600-800 calories a day initially and to work towards getting back to 1200. She gave me meal plans for puree and soft foods Week 3 I had gained back to 137. I was alarmed but thought maybe the initial weight loss was just water weight and it would even out. However it didn't stop. Week 4 I was back up to 139…

Has anyone had any experience with having a revision done in Mexico? My insurance denied my revision AND denied my appeal against their decision. I don't have the time to continue fighting them (we want to have kids in the future and I know I will have to wait 18-24 months after the surgery to do so). And, if anyone has any experience at Oasis of Hope in Tijuana, Mexico, please do let me know even if it wasn't for a revision! Thank you so much!

I will be undergoing sleeve revision to roux en y. One because of reflux but more importantly for weight loss. I lost 90 lbs. 7 years ago with sleeve and gained back 65. How much should I expect to lose? I have a new surgeon who I like much better and he is more concerned with my health and I can already see their follow ups will be much better. I am not screwing this one up. SW 250 Lowest 159 CW 225 GW 185

I’ve read over and over again that WLS is not a magic bullet. It takes dedicated, sustained lifestyle changes. But, if we can’t maintain those changes (eliminate carbs, low calorie diet, avoid trigger foods) before surgery, how can we expect to maintain them after surgery? I’m thinking long term here: 5, 10, 15 years after surgery when the magic of weight loss is gone and it’s just daily life. If I can’t stop eating now, how could I expect that to change in 10 years? Really looking for help here. I had lap band surgery in 2014 and I weigh 15lbs more than my highest pre-surgery weight. I gained back all weight I lost and more, and have the same bad habits. I’m thin…

It has been a long time since I posted on this forum. I was sleeved in October 2018 and immediately began suffering from reflux/GERD (which I did not have prior to sleeve). Fast-forward 2 1/2 years later, loads of PPI's, EGD's, barium swallows, scans, scopes and referrals, I was finally advised by a surgeon that my best option is to have revision of the sleeve to the bypass. I have a mid grade hiatal hernia and severe GERD. It's gratifying to finally get some answers and while I am looking forward to some relief, I am a bit anxious about the surgery. I relocated from Houston to Dallas, TX in May. I consulted with a new bariatric surgeon on May 26th. Once the ball got…

I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there in the same boat, or who has gone through something similar. I had Lap Band surgery in 2014. Ultimately gained back all my weight and more. After the birth of my youngest daughter, I underwent a revision to Duodenal Switch in August of 2019 at 285 pounds. Over the course of the next 6 months, I also got sober, and ultimately, at this point, I'm down to 130-135, having lost 150 pounds. I was sitting at about 160 pounds in January, and have lost the additional 25-30 since then. In January of this year, I started struggling with dysphagia. For the most part, I would vomit solid food back up, no matter how slow I ate, if I d…

Hi, I’m having surgery on 9/22 to convert my sleeve to rny cause of GERD. It's been 10 yrs since I've had my sleeve done, and nowadays, I could almost get a hamburger. My doctor is not touching my sleeve, just rerouting for my GERD. Would I still lose weight even though I hardly have any restrictions?

I am wondering how common it is to have a revision from bypass to sleeve? I see a lot of the opposite.. I had my bypass done 7 years ago and lost 125lbs, got down to 145lbs, then got pregnant within the 1st year. I am now up to 215lbs and the dr said my stomach is still the right size but the opening into the stomach is very large now. They have suggested and scheduled this revision from bypass to sleeve for Oct 14th. Hoping to find others who have had this type of revision.

I had RNY in 2007, went from 325 to 170 and kept if off for 11 years, which felt awesome. When I had my baby (225 lbs) I just never took the baby weight off, got lax and gained a 50 lbs of weight on top of that. I had a revision to the bypass to reduce my stomach size and really want to get below 200lbs again. So far am down to 255 from 275 day of surgery but am struggling with weakness. Eating soft foods now and hovering below 600 calories a day with 30 minutes of walking. Should I be eating less? Exercising more? I forget everything I did in 2007 to be successful and am still in shock that I’m back here again. Thank you.

Hey Friends, I saw a few posts about sleeve to RYGB but not as much discussion as I thought there’d be. I’m having revision this month due to some weight regain (partly my fault and partly due to having a baby). In addition to the the regain I also have a twist in my stomach which is cutting off blood supply to that section of stomach (due to previous sleeve surgery) this has to be rectified. My surgeon says while weightloss is slower he believes I will loose more than my original sleeve surgery. Anyone that has been through this with good or bad results I would love to hear your story. I’m worried that I won’t have the weightloss I’m looking for within a reasonabl…

I just wanted to say, "never stop fighting for your life." I'm truly on the road to revision after over two years. I have completed 1 of 3 months of dietary counseling. I am scheduled for an exam on 9/17 to check my sleeve and throat. I have two other medical appointments (psychiatric and cardiac). Funny thing, I am still not excited. I haven't changed my mind. I am just a little scared! I plan to share my journey because it helped me to read other's stories. Its one day at a time!

I finally bit the bullet and called up my doctor's office down in Florida who placed my lap band back in 2013, and I made a consultation for the 23rd to speak to him about a revision to a sleeve. I'm very excited to finally get the ball rolling on this and see if this will be a sure thing. I was hoping to not have to travel back to FL for a revision, but it seems this is really the best way to go since this doctor did my first surgery and his prices are reasonable so far (I am self pay). Anything I should prepare for before this consult? Any general band to sleeve revision advice?

RNY revision to duodenal switch. I'm a little nervous. I've started this journey in March so I'm ready. I hope to post updates as time goes on. I know God is with me and i feel very positive that this time i will make it to goal weight and keep it off. When i had my original bypass almost 15 yrs. ago, i didn't have as much guidance or knowledge that i do now. Much has changed over the years and I'm so ready. Is anyone else having your revision tomorrow or very soon. I'm here for anyone who wants to chat or vent or contemplating getting a revision done. My best to all of you. God Bless!

Thursday it will be 2 weeks since my revision surgery on August 12, from RNY to Duodenal Switch. It was a 5 1/2 hour surgery, a little rough but my surgeon was able to do what needed to be done. I was in the hospital for 4 nights. So far since i've been home the only issue i've had with the surgery is one of my incisions started draining quite a bit. I went to the doctor to have that taken care of. It wasn't infected but to be cautious, i'm on antibiotics and gauzed up. I see the doctor again on Thursday. Mostly all pain is gone. I'm now on pureed foods. That is going a little tougher than i thought as far as what to eat. I'm eating slow but this morning i did throw up my…

Hi everyone I cant believe I'm here.. 3 years ago I joined this site, asking for advice how to tell my family about the decision I wanted to do to go for a gastric bypass.. 3 years later I'm here..I lost 77 kilograms , the first year was great. The second year was still great but I was starting to feel "weird", now after 3 years .. I'm sick. Very sick. I have early and late dumping, low blood sugar feeling throughout today, low blood pressure throughout the day, tingling hands and feet, extreme fatigue. I have cramps and pain that I have never experienced in my life. My bones, my muscles and nerves. The worst is waking up everyday with dizziness and fuzzy feeli…

I had a successful sleeve surgery five years ago, then had a baby and got stuck in a pandemic. I’ve put on so much weight, but still nowhere near my original starting weight and don’t intend to get back there! I am planning to get a revision surgery, and right now I am most seriously considering the mini gastric bypass. I contacted a couple of doctors and they tried to suggest a sleeve revision, but I can’t find any success stories of people who were re-sleeved and lost substantial quantities of weight. Which got me thinking?… Do any of the revision surgeries produce substantial weight loss? If you have gone from sleeve to the mini gastric bypass or another procedur…

Hello everyone! I am in need of some help/guidance! I had gastric sleeve in 2012, out of the country, due to no insurance at the time. Now I feel I need a revision. I have insurance - United HealthyCare Oxford. Does anyone have any experience with these circumstances? Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
