Do any of you know if anything can be done after gastric bypass? I had gastric 10yrs ago and within the last year have put the weight back on after my grandma died.

I have been wondering the same. I had mine 20 years ago and seriously need help. Nothing is working.

I agree,nothing is really working. I think I might need to get my thyroid checked out too. I put the weight back on quick after losing my Gma.

On getting back to weight loss, don't think the below as a weight loss diet because weight loss diets end. Then one returns to the 'normal' diet which results in weight gain. This is just the old habits reasserting.

Get back on your post-op plan. Return to the good habits you learned during the early post-op months. Whatever you do now, it won't be fast weight loss, but if you are consistent you will get where you want to be. Then you need to continue on plan consistently for the rest of your life.

If you're inclined increase your activity or even :gasp: exercise. Exercise is not my thing, but I am active(ish).

And a BIG thank you for the encouragement!!! I feel so alone! My family as a whole is not supportive. My husband and youngest daughter are,that’s it. Everyone else kept telling me when I got down to my smallest that I looked like a crack whore and I was way too skinny. I either hear them in my head or I hear myself in my head for getting back to this!

I hate people. I know it's hard for some folks but you need to learn to ignore them, or drop them. Talk to them honestly and tell them if they can't be civil then they can't be in your life. Then, when they are uncivil again, drop them like the plague, because that is what they are. Seriously. Don't let them poison your life. If they can't behave, you MUST take care of you and your family. You need to make hard choices that shouldn't be that hard.

Grrr. Especially now, they want to be jerks? Grrr. Geez, I'm pissed off at them. Just so wrong.

Keep the spouse and kids. They are the important family anyhow. It sounds like you've done your family thing right. Good job.

I hate when people say these things..... They don't realize how much words affect you. My x was my biggest NON-supporter.... but he is gone now (yayyyyy).

There are some things you can do: Start logging your food in a food app... I like Myfitnesspal and Baritastic. Do this for a week and really see where your fats, cals, and carbs are coming from. Start to remove them from your diet. Go back to portion control. Start over, do your two-week preop diet. Food prepping is a great way to get back on track. Moving more.... Surgically i think you can do the band over bp, or the DS.... but i'm not 100%

Have you been back to you dr? If not... goooooo. Don't be embarrassed about your weight gain. Tell him/her the truth about what's going on in your life and get him/her on board. The dr is there to help you succeed. You are not the first person to regain and you won't be the last..... But, you are the only person that can make the changes happen. YOU CAN DO THIS..... when the nonsupportive people start telling you crap.... walk away, just walk away. Surround yourself with positive people... If you can make an appointment with your NUT and psychiatrist.... they can help you with food choices.... and help you with the emotional part of why.

If I can’t find someone good in the 2 closest cities to me then I’ll be driving all the way to Louisiana ? I hated leaving but my husband was military and it was time to move ? He’s retired now.

I'm 8 years out and started gaining after the loss of my oldest son and being in a car accident a year ago. There is revision surgery for us that had the rny. I'm been studying it. Before I do it though I want to see if I can lose on my own. So I have gone back to the basics where I was at week 2 post op. I've lost 3 lbs in a week. Having a hard time getting water in but I'm trying. Also I'm walking 30 minutes a day. I'm tracking everything. Need to go buy a new scale though. I don't know where I misplaced the one I had.

If you're looking at revision options, my surgeon is discussing a non-surgical option with me of an ESG (Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty) which is where they go in via your esophagus and stitch the pouch to be smaller again from the inside. There are no incisions and it's done quite quickly. I have a consultation with my surgeon next week to get more information but it looks like a good option with some success.

There seems to be a high rate of failure for ESG in Australia vs USA (perhaps because its a newer technique here and doctors have yet to fully develop the skills/experience), note though that most of the people in the facebook group below had an ESG as a first weight loss procedure so the outcome for a revision ESG following a bypass may well be different for those in Australia. https://www.facebook.com/groups/238431870408750 (ESG failure group).

Seems your surgeon is considering a standard ESG rather than the bypass revision called a TORe (Transoral Outlet Revision). TORe seems to be a successful revision for bypasses.

ESG in Australia is not covered by medicare (hence private health insurance too) and can be a costly exercise for a day procedure. If you go ahead with the ESG ask the doctor how many they have done and the success rate of their patients. If the doctor has done less than 100 I'd go elsewhere - there are some who have done over 250 so the more experienced the better.

It is always based on YOUR anatomical structure, now, after your first surgery, but I actually HAVE had a TRUE RNY bypass, in 2003, that was "reversed/revised" 20 months later, due to a non healing ulcer, and major malnutrition. I ended gaining about 100 lbs back, and LOTS of gastric problems. I finally found a surgeon (actually in same practice as my original surgeon), that agreed to take a chance on me. He "bypassed my bypass" 8/17/2020. Said it was first one like that he had ever done. That was 50 lbs ago. So, YES, IT CAN BE DONE- IN SOME CASES. SEEK OUT PROFESSIONAL HELP. GOOD LUCK.
