Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums

Revision weight loss surgery after weight regain, complications, or a failed procedure. Revisions from LAP-BAND, sleeve, or bypass.

  1. I had gastric bypass surgery + 2000 + 7 and games in the last year 100 lbs back or maybe over a hundred pounds I was wondering has anyone had a revision surgery after gastric bypass surgery

  2. Started by TX2NC,

Hi Revision buddies! Just a bit of backstory: I had a lapband placed back in fall of 2007, so almost 12 years ago. Unfortunately, I have always struggled with my band when it had fluid in it (vomited frequently, inability to eat most proteins, GERD, could not drink anything that wasn't warm or at minimum room temperature.) My band and I officially "broke up" in 2015. All of the difficulties I had been struggling with had gotten so bad that I had developed acute gastritis, and esophageal spasms due to the GERD and persistent vomiting, which resulted in me having to have all of the fluid removed. While the vomiting every time I ate and esophageal spams stopped, the GER…

  3. Hi! Anyone that has gone from LB to RNY: I have the LB and get stuck ALL. The. time. Even when I am unfilled! Is there a similar sensation with the RNY? I know the procedures are very different, but didn’t know if there was a similar, terrible feeling when you don’t chew enough or eat too much/fast. Thanks! Amanda

  4. Is Natural (no sugar) PB and bananas a yes or no in the puréed stage? I’m still on full liquids, but dreaming of the day.

  6. I tried the GNC Calcium Citrate chews and they have an awful taste to them. I was dreading having to eat one of these 3 times a day. I tried a few others, and I had to hold my nose while choking them down. I looked at some reviews online and saw some really good ones for Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate Chews. I ordered the assorted fruit flavors so I can see if there was any one I liked. In the bag is Orange, raspberry, strawberry & lemon. Got them in the mail super quick. Only 1-2 days. To my absolute delight, these are amazing! They taste like Starburst candy. I actually look forward to eating them! They are $36 for a bag of 90 (one month supply) and worth every…

Hi! Anyone with Kaiser SoCal (Inland Empire) that has a revision from band to RNY? If so, did the surgeon do the revision in one or two surgeries? Thanks!! I feel so in the dark throughout this whole (lengthy) process! Amanda

Hello, I'm super excited to be approved for revision wls from VSG to Gastric Bypass. I'm 2 years and 1 month post op from VSG. About 1 1/2 years from surgery, I have started experiencing GERD. I did have my hiatal hernia repaired at the same time as my sleeve but the stinky hernia and GERD has come back. I'm currently 24 pounds to being within a normal BMI. I was approved super quick for revision. I've tried 40 mg of ppi but my body wasn't having it to control my acid reflux. Eventually, I'm taking 2 ppi pills with some relief. Anyway, the purpose of this post is Do you think I would be up to traveling on airplane 10 days post op from revision surgery? My flight…

  9. It was 5 years ago today 7/22 that I was sleeved. Like many others- GERD, hiatal hernia & a 30lb regain has me going back for a second chance. I gotta admit, rearranging my guys has me a little nervous. Not sure what to expect as far as recovery the first couple day or how long they will end up keeping me in the hospital. For those who have gone through the same thing- Is it similar to sleeve? Any advice & words of wisdom are greatly appreciated!

Hiya, so has anyone been on anti depressants before your surgery? I have but my Surgeon said i shouldn't take it now that I'm post OP, that also goes for my hormones pills. I know from my previous experience when I wasnt taking the antidepressants and my hormonal medication, i went down hill. Are you still taking them or has your Surgeon stopped them? Any advice please! Thank you!

  11. I am just wondering what made you realize that you needed a revision to your roux-n-y surgery and what did that revision entail?

  12. I’m so nervous for my revision surgery! It’s scheduled in just a couple weeks. If you’ve done this- how much different is the post-op experience? I have terrible GERD, and have had only a small amount of weight loss.

  13. Started by freshair,

Has anyone had previously had a rny and gotten a revision? In the last 2 years o got pregnant and have since put back on the weight even if I'm watching what I'm eating. I feel my absorption is back to normal.

  14. Just like the title states, I am in the process of meeting with surgeons and trying to make a decision on revision surgery. Looking to hear about surgeons used and your experience.

Hello all, I had lap band in 2008 and lost ~250 pounds, from 433 to 178 pounds. I thought the band was a miracle. Then the band went from being my friend to my nemesis. Trying to manage severe GERD has led to almost 100 pound gain. Long story short, I have a doctor appointment tomorrow to see about getting the band out and convert to RNY. (Sleeve is out of the question due to GERD). I have Kaiser and they will only do it in two steps which I am bummed about, but I just want to get the process started. Anyway, the reason for my post is I have been re-emerging on this forum to find others who have transitioned from lap band to RNY. My main question is, for …

  16. Hi! I am a 28 year old female and I have had the Lap-band for going on 8 years now. My starting weight was 240, and I got down to 155. I am 5’2 and my goal weight is 125-130. For the past year or so I have had many problems that have landed me in the hospital...mostly my esophagus being torn up from the acid reflux. We figured out my band had slipped. So my surgeon is performing revision surgery to the sleeve. Has anyone else experienced this? I am currently at 165 and I’m just curious about if and how fast I would lose weight since I am smaller than the first go around and how the sleeve differs from the band after all these years! Thanks guys!

hi all i had a gastric band fitted in nov 2012 and have had numerous problems , fills and defills and even a period of 18months with nothing in my band , i decided to start again in april this year and have fills but having got to 5mls have had to have two defills putting me now at 4mls . i never know from one day to the next how my eating will be , one day i can be pretty ok and the next i may struggle with a yoghurt . i have after some time enquired about revision surgery from my band to the gastric bypass and have plucked up the courage to book a consultation to discuss it properly , i am also seeing my gp this coming tuesday with a view of mentioning it to her amongst…

Hi! Am en route to have my lapband revised to the RNY (most likely- not sold on the sleeve...) and I am trying to figure out how much time off from work I need. When I had the lapband surgery, I spent a day in the hospital with gas pains and just a little sore. If I had the job I have now back then (middle school teacher- so I can be fairly sedentary if needed) I think I would’ve been able to go back to work within a few days. I mean, I just had a baby with no drugs, had to be stitched and I was going on long walks the day after. I also had ankle reconstruction and went back to work in 4 days (including a weekend). Not saying that I am super tough, just a seaso…

Banded in Ft Worth in 2012- I just met with a new surgeon yesterday after having a swallow study. My esophagus is expanding causing reflux, etc. He unfilled the band and set me up for a follow up swallow study and follow up with him on Aug 15th. We talked about options. Do I want the sleeve or bypass? With revision do they make you wait months and months? Thanks...

Anyone have blue cross blue shield (federal) that has had revision or going thru the process? I am trying to get options/opinions.. I have about 6 months before I will be able to do this (pregnancy) but my gerd has been a monster for the last year and even worse with this pregnancy.. I have only gained 7 lbs so not worried about weight loss issue, although it will be helpful after my pregnancy to lose the additional baby weight.. called my insurance today and I think they were confused on what I was asking.. I just want to know what I have to do to be covered by my insurance to have revision done??

  24. Started by loser2014,

I had lap band surgery in 2014 with moderate success. It got me down from 265 to 220 in six months. My weight stayed stable for about 4 years until I had to have the fluid let out due to being unable to swallow anything. Since then my weight has been slowly creeping cack up again. My insurance does does not cover Bariatric surgery. I paid $10k for the band and will have to self pay to revise. I am trying to find someone who has had good experience with a reasonably priced doctor that performed a band to VSG revision. I am in the Midwest and would prefer to stay in the US but will travel. Thank you.

My sleeve still exists. However, GERD is horrible. My current issue is insurance. They're requiring a peer to peer review. This indeed sucks. I have paid for insurance for close to 20 years. I go to the doctor. I didn't ask for GERD. I am in pain every day. When I only drink water? I am in pain. This sucks! Why the heck is this fair? I am not giving up. I am frustrated and fighting.

  31. I had sleeve Jan 2014. Went from 266 to 176, then gained 25 back from having 2 babies. I just went to a gen. Surgeon to discuss getting an umbilical hernia fixed and we also discussed my severe acid reflux. He ordered an upper GI which showed Severe Gerd and a small hiatal hernia as well. He put me on meds which aren’t helping much. He said the only way to properly fix the issues is to revise to a bypass. I now have an apt with a bariatric surgeon to discuss options. Will FEP bcbs cover the revision if I havevto have one? Will I have to go through the same process as when I had sleeve done? Will I have to meet same requirements? My BMI is only 31.4. I am 5’4 at my heaviest I was 272 and got down to 174 now I’m back up to 222. I am super depressed because I don’t know how I let this get this bad. I’m looking for stories of people who have had this revision and what made them decided to do it and how much the have lost so far. Also people who are looking into getting the surgery and what made you decide to look into it.

I have been approved for a revision to a sleeve. I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on Dr. Mario Almanza. Thanks in advance.

  38. Hello everyone.. I’m new to this group... I had a upper GI the end of April and my EGD this past Thursday.. I’m going back to the doctor on 5/22/19to discuss my next options. I had a sleeve done 8/2013 and of course like I have read there has been weight gain and reflux and sleep apnea. I am still on blood pressure meds and my CW is 227... wondering if this process will be the same as before? Is it a harder recovery? Will I loose a significant amount of weight? I do have BCBS insurance..Just wondering what to expect...Any feed back is welcomed.

A few important questions!! So anxious rHello all! I am currently thinking of moving forward with revision surgery. So far I have gained 57lbs and counting. Has anyone been cleared for revision surgery (or first timers ) with a low BMI? i will be self paying but not sure that it matters. For self-payers , what were the requirements to be approved - if any? how was your initial revision consultation? How long did it take from initial consult till your surgery date? Thank you you so much for your help in advance!!!! Love having support.

Had my surgery 3 years ago and am doing everything right but my body is on strike as far as dropping the weight. My main question is (yeah, I know, I shoulda said, "hey everyone I've got a question", ...sorry).., will the state Medicaid/Medicare pay for it or will I have to pinch my pennies to afford it?

Hi everyone! I am approximately 9 weeks pregnant and feel super bloated and have already gained a few pounds and it is making me extremely nervous.. I had wanted to talk to my surgeon about my constant stall no matter what I was doing and my terrible reflux to get revision surgery prior to me getting pregnant.. now, I am not due until November, and was wondering how long after I give birth should I approach the revision? I am not going to breast feed due to my line of work and would like to have the revision done while I’m on maternity leave so I don’t have to take additional time off from work. Anyone do this or have any pointers? I’m super stressed about the weight gain…

I was wondering if anyone has had a revision done in Mexico? I had the gastric sleeve done 10 years ago. I have unfortunately gained back all the weight. I am looking for the best bariatric surgeon in Mexico to do a revision for me. But, there is so much info out there I dont know what to believe. If you have had a revision of any kind done by a surgeon in Mexico can you please let me know where and who you selected? If you are pleased? Thank you so much.

  44. I'm 5 weeks out from surgery. My NUT just told me to increase my calories to minimum of 800 per day as I've been plateaued. She is suggesting 4 meals per day at approx 3 ounces each. Today my plate looks like this: B: 1% cottage cheese with cinnamon with a small piece of fresh pear. Mid morn: Hard boiled egg with lf mayo and mustard (basically a devilled egg) L: Home made turkey chili with beans and turkey jerky Mid aft: Premier Protein Shake Dinner: Boneless/Skinless chicken thighs and steamed green beans 87 grams protein/74 grams carbs/39 grams fat

  45. PLEASE share your story and suggestions... There seem to be SO MANY places that advertise and have great reviews on website and on facebook.... However, I want the real deal from PEOPLE!!! The Good, bad and ugly... I am researching to have a revision. Thanks!!

Hi friends, I was sleeved almost 5 months ago and all was well until I tried to stop taking my pantoprozole around 8 weeks. I have had hearburn everyday since if I do not take the medicine. I do not want to take an acid reducer long term. It scares the crap out of me. Just trying to see if anyone has had the same issue? Did it get better? Did you get a revision? I am so scared to get a revision but reflux is scary and no fun at all. It can cause long term issues and damage that scares me also. I also know someone who was revised and is still having issues with reflux. Any encouragement is greatly appreciated. [emoji171]

  47. Hello, I saw a few posts about this but I am still curious to see if anyone had any issues getting approved for a revision through Kaiser? I asked for a referral back to the bariatrics department so I am waiting for a phone call but I am just nervous about it. Does anyone have any information?

I’m about to have a sleeve division to a Loop DS. I would love to hear some success stories or failures even. I e read that the Loop DS is not as successful. Since it only started in 2007, there isn’t a lot of long term data. I just want to make sure I have just less likely chance of gaining the weight back with a Loop DS as I would with a regular DS.
