Do all sleeves or bariatric surgeries need revisions? I’m seeing posts that some people think the sleeve stops working and will need a revision at some point. Where are people getting this information? Yes, some people may need surgery revision. It can happen with any type of surgery. This site is filled with new people and people that have gained weight. People that are maintaining have no need for support here. I’m wondering if this is the reason people think surgeries will “need revisions” That we are all doomed to regain. Does any know the criteria for Tufts for a revision from sleeve to bypass? I suffer from terrible reflux and need some relief. The medication doesn't work anymore. I do not fit the BMI and I don't have diabetes, sleep apnea or cardiovascular issues. Thank you

Just wondering if Wellcare will pay for a revision if I need one? I have a scope Friday after 4 years to see how it's going in there. I've struggled for over a week to just drop 1 lb. I've been going to to gym and eating way less and upping my water and other liquids. And protein. I just hope I haven't messed my sleeve up. Cuz if Wellcare doesn't pay for it I sure can't.

I currently have a lapband and seeking a revision to a gastric sleeve. Does anyone have any experience with this? is approval process the same with the 6 month nutrition plan?

SO I am being seen next week for evaluation to revise my 10 year lap band to a gastric sleeve. Does anyone know if Aetna requires even the revisional patients to follow the 6 month nutrition plan requirement? I know i did it the first time jut not sure what is different with the revision.

I had a revision from Sleeve to MGB this last Tuesday (Feb 5'19). I was well warned that the weight loss would be slower, due to the fact that this was a revision, so have been pleasantly surprised by having lost 8lbs in the last week. I am still on clear fluids, and I know that is likely having a huge impact on my expedient weight loss, but it's sure great motivation. I have had the lap band since 2007. I lost 163 pounds over the years. Then had complications last November gained 40 pounds back after they had to open my band completely. I am slowly in the process of getting filled and struggling to lose the weight again and meanwhile getting depressed. I have an option of having a revision to sleeve or GB. I had my lap band placed over 10 years (when I was 57) and had left shoulder pain immediately after surgery. My clueless surgeon didn't know why. I had all the fill removed a year later. I got the left shoulder pain when I was eating and knew it was my stop signal. I switched to another surgeon who said the band can irritate the phrentic nerve and that could be the cause so I thought getting it removed would solve that problem. I'm in a panic right now I had the lap band in 2012 and started having problems, so I started looking into a revision to bypass. I completed all the required steps the insurance requires (dietitian meetings, Psych eval, stress test, EGD). EGD even showed that my band had prolapsed. Hi everyone! I was originally sleeved in March of 2016. I had an annoying burping thing pretty much from the beginning, but I lost about 90lbs in 6 months...and have held pretty steady since. Hi all. First post here! Long story short--I have a 10 year old lap band that I'm having nothing but trouble with. My doc said I could revise it to either a sleeve or bypass. Right now I have Aetna, but by the time I do the 6 month diet I will be on Medicare and the doc doesn't know if they cover revisions. Anyone out here have any experience with this? Thanks!

Have any revisionists had trouble getting motivation to lose more weight? I am going from lapband to sleeve on 2/20/19 and I feel like even though I have plenty to lose, I’m not feeling like I am going to, or that I am not as motivated to. Maybe it’s a defense mechanism? I am hoping it’s like when a woman has a baby and their “maternal instincts” kick in that I will feel more motivated after surgury to make weight loss a goal rather than just getting my lapband out... any one else struggle with this and if so, did that change after surgery? Hey everyone, I had gastric sleeve revision surgery over 6 months ago and I have lost almost 40 pounds. I still have 20 to lose to get to goal, although I am happy to finally being able to squeeze into most of my skinny clothes. Hello, all.... After extensive research, I've decided to revise from band to sleeve in Mexico. I was banded in 2005, and want to know about the issues with scar tissue. I have read some posts here where some people had a lot of scar tissue, but the surgeon completed the revision. While other surgeons didn't complete the revision because of scar tissue. For those of you who had your band over 10 years, and revised to sleeve, what was your experience with the scar tissue? Does it develop because of he length of time the band is in place? Or does it develop based on the person's body? Any insight is appreciated.

I had RNY gastric bypass in 2002 with Dr. Callery in San Diego, ca. My insurance will not pay for a revision. In the last 3-4 years I have gained 45-50lbs. I want to have a revision, my pouch made smaller again and possibly more intestines removed. I had the surgery open and have a large scar. I had minimal to no issues with my first surgery. So I am 4 month post revision sleeve to bypass and my weight loss is slowing more each month. I can't help but be nervous about reaching my goal. I know.... I had the VSG 3/2015. I lost down to 148 was my lowest. After my body completely had a nervous breakdown itself including a stroke 8/2018 I gained back up to 212. I own this completely. I went from 12,000-20,000 a day to 3000 or less steps a day because of right side weakness and repetitive falls. Before I get all the way back to my SW of 276 I am taking action!!!! My LapBand was removed in June/2018 and my stomach was not healthy enough to do the sleeve. Inflammation, erosion and very thinned walls. Hello all. Just visited with my Dr. 5 years post sleeve start weight 239 current weight 200. I lost 69 pounds max got down to 170. Now here I am. I have a hiatal hernia from my first sleeve and the worst acid reflux. Dr tells me I should have had the bypass from the start. The only way to fix things is to do the bypass. I workout 4 x a week and still diet with no results other than feeling healthy and young but still overweight. I've gotten to where I don't even care about the weight loss from the surgery anymore just want to be healthy and keep doing what I'm doing. Has anyone else experienced this and has the surgery and what were your results?

Hi all!! I had the band removed and was sleeved on 5/2017. I immediately had bad reflux but was told to just keep taking the meds. Here I am today 17 months out with extremely bad reflux. I’ve regained about 20lbs because only crackers and bread don’t give me flare ups. I’m choking nightly even while sleeping on three pillows and can’t eat anything without acid attacks. Anyone had the sleeve and getting a revision due to having no restriction and weight gain? I was Sleeved April 2015 and only lost 60lbs. I’m scheduled for revision on Sept. 4th. I lost my restriction with my sleeve 6 months out and could eat regularly. I don’t have GERD issues. Hi! I lost almost 140 lbs w/my sleeve but have slowly regained 35 lbs over the last 3 years. I'm scared I'll be back to where I started at this rate. Since my original bariatric surgeon passed away, I went to see another WLS doc and he performed an endoscopy. Said I have a hernia, reflux, kink in my sleeve and stretched out sleeve, so that is why I'm gaining weight. He recommends a revision from sleeve to bypass. Hello everyone. Today marks my 6 month Post-op Band to RNY Revision. It's been an interesting ride. March 21st, I arrived for my surgery at 0600. Was taken back to prep at 0630 and was in surgery before 0730. My surgery was a tough one, the band was fully encapsulated in scar tissue and took almost 4 times longer to remove than it should have, the surgery itself lasted much longer than expected. But, thankfully my super awesome surgeon Dr. Beth Ryder stuck with it and completed the full revision rather than only removing the band. So my surgeon will only do the surgery 2-3 months apart because he doesn’t want the surgery to take 5-6 hours. I do not want to be in surgery for that long so I guess I really understand but on the other hand I fee gutted because I just wanted the entire thing to be over and done. This is the second doctor that I have had that says two separate surgeries. Two different reasons but still two separate surgeries. I’m looking at January to have the actual bypass completed.

I was set up to have the DS on AUG 13th, but I may go for the RNY do to my doctor just had spinal surgery and he is saying that he will not be physically capable of performing the DS by my surgery date.
