Anyone lap band revision to sleeve? How much was ur starting weight before lap band and sleeve? How much did u loose with each? How long has it been sence surgery? Are I maintaining? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I'm to be sleeved in 7 days, lost over 100 pounds with the lap band till it slipped and has a hole in it.

I would like to hear from those of you who originally had Gastric Bypass surgery and then revised to the Gastric Sleeve. My bypass surgery was December 2005. I managed to lose about 80-90 lbs. (size 24/26W down to a size 10/12). Unfortunately...my success was short lived and I never reached my goal weight of 145 lbs. My recent endoscopy showed my bowels were twisted...esphogus was messed up and my pouch was made too large. Had a few issues with terminal gas..lol...acid reflux...digestion issues...etc. Was sleeved on 2/10...and so far so good. Hey all.. I have New york medicaid and medicare. I had lapband in Sept 2010'. It didnt really work out. I am trying for the sleeve does anyone know how medicare treats 2nd surgeries? My bar office seemed to think I woild get cleared but that wont be for another month. The anticipation is making me mad! Does anyone know if medi,/medi coverca second wls? Hi, I am new to this site...Well here it goes, I was 300 pounds and originally banded on July 30, 2010. I was very successful with my band and by my 2nd year, I had lost 175 lbs and was 125 lbs. I had met my goal and was very happy. Then suddenly I started getting food stuck, throwing up all of the time, having abdominal pain and feeling very weak. I went to see my doctor and had an Upper GI. No slip, just was that my band was too tight. So, the dance began and I had my band loosened, then tightened, and back and forth like this for about a year. Hi, I just recently joined and was hoping to find some other people who also had Band to Sleeve revision around the same time I did. I had my lap band in 2010 and had all the usual complications. On December 20th 2013 I had the band removed and the sleeve done all in the same procedure. I was hoping to find some others to keep in touch and provide each other support throughout the stages! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!

Can someone share with me if it is common for health insurance NOT to pay for the gastric sleeve portion of the surgery but will pay for the removal of the band? My insurance, Blue Cross/Shield determined that the band removal was a medical necessity but he revision to gastric sleeve was not a medical necessity. Has anyone else had this problem but was able to get it resolved? My insurance approved the surgery but says it has to "review" post op whether to pay for the additional service of gastric sleeving. I am not sure if I should take that leap of faith. The sleeve portion can leave me with up to a $25,000 bill.

Just found out yesterday after an UGI last Friday that I have a slip. After talking with my surgeon he will be doing a revision as well as adding plication and I'm wondering for those that have had the band without plication and then later had a revision adding plication what their experience was. Did you notice a difference in how your band functioned? Did you tend to lose faster with the plication? Any and all experiences are appreciated.

How is everyone doing? How much weight have you lost? What has been the most exciting change? What has been frustrating? I am down 53 lbs since surgery. To me, I would like more. I have accepted that I am a slow loser. Currently I am in a two month stall. I track my food and exercise. I am doing everything that my doctor has told me to do. So, I am a little frustrated. I also have PCOS so that may be factoring in. On the plus side, I am only 5 lbs away from my lowest band weight! I had a lap band in 2003. Fought with it the whole time but at one point I lost a lot of weight. I ate nothing solid for four months. So I went ahead and did a tummy tuck and breast lift. Then my band broke and I gained every bit back. I never regained the hanging belly because they cut it off. I did gain in my upper belly though! So I had a revision to sleeve almost 3 weeks ago. I lost 25 lbs pre op and another 17 in the past three weeks! So with these 40 lbs I've noticed my upper belly is realllly flattening out!!

I live in CA and I had two plastic surgeries: Circumferential body lift in August 2013 and Brachioplasty in December 2013 Unfortunately, I'm having issues with both surgeries. I currently have the band and my insurance will cover a revision to sleeve after a 6 MONTH DIET. I'm 5'1 and 188lbs BMI 35.5 if I actually follow the diet and lose weight could the insurance say my BMI is too low? Or does it not matter since it's a revision? I'll ask at my next appt but wondering if anyone has experience.

Hi all, After two failed lab bands, I am scheduled to have the band removed and revised to a sleeve. Despite my best efforts, my surgeon insists that I have the band removed, allow 3 months 'rest' time for my stomach then have the sleeve procedure. Has anyone had the same experience and how did you manage/control your weight over that time? I'm terrified I will gain back majority, if not all of the 60lbs I've lost this far in that 3 months. I had not even thought of a conversion to a sleeve, but my doctor brought it up, and I think it scared me more than anything! I'm brand new to this board, and would love honest input, good and bad. So Merry Christmas and Thank you Jesus for the miracle of beign approved for revision lapband to sleeve surgery!! It has been along road being told no unless i come up with a 5 year food diary for everything i put in my mouth. Yes, they really demanded that journal. It wasnt what i put in my mouth that was the problem it was the faulty lapband and being to tight, then leaking and all the hoops I had to jump. Today two weeks after surgery I weigh 197 lbs!! That means I lost 2lbs this week... I went on a weekend cruise and it was very relaxing. I couldn't do much or go on any Water slides in Atlantis but it was still great to relax and heal. Good morning, I have great news. I’ve been approved for my revision surgery from gastric band to gastric sleeve. I was initially banded on July 28 2006 with little to no weight loss. My band slipped and my stomach as turned. I have a great surgeon that I trust Dr Joseph Kuhn out of Dallas Texas. I’m new to this site and can’t wait for my new journey to start .

So, I've mentioned before that I have no restriction and tomorrow I'm having a barium X-ray to see 1) the size of the pouch 2) the size of the stoma and 3) the rate at which the pouch empties. Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and what happened?

Hi all. Looks like I'm one of the very few with complications. I stopped losing weight at 6 months and even the first 6 months added up to LESS than what I lost during prior prep! . I was up 4 days a week at the gym at 5am, eating healthy and still, nothing happened. My surgeon and nut were stumped and we did an intensive 6 week study. I had the lapband removed in Sept. I am going to get the sleeve. I have talked with 2 surgeons . One uses a 36 bougie and the other uses a 32 bougie and over sews. I am concerned about the differences. Does anyone have an opinion on this? As far as weightloss, will it be harder with a 36 bougie. I have about 50 pounds to lose. Not sure what to do.

Hey everyone, Just wondering is there anyone out here who has gone from a sleeve to gastric bypass revision? I had lapband surgery in 2008 and was revised to a gastric sleeve in May 2012. I am 19 months out from surgery. I am still unable to eat much. I can not hold down any protein except for my shakes. I was at 235 and now I am at 122 and still losing. My doctor told me I had formed a pouch where my lapband use to be and food is getting stuck in there and also the gastroenterologist told my husband that my spinter muscle is not working properly and they normally fix that by wrapping excessive stomach tissue around it but beings I have had the sleeve there is no excess…

Hello Everyone!! Today makes a week since I had my Revision surgery from lap band to VSG! When I started my weight loss surgery I weighed 250 lbs. The day of my revision I weighed 208.6 lbs. Today one week after surgery I weigh 199.0 lbs!! That means I lost 9.6 lbs on the first week and made it to Onederland!!!! Yay!! I am scheduled to have my revision surgery (band with plication) on November 14th, a birthday present to myself. I have already had 1 slip repair surgery and I think this will be my last attempt. I've been reading a lot of success stories on different forums and decided to go with band and plication surgery. I absolutely love my band and hate that it slipped. I guess I just wanted to get some reassurance from people who have had the band with plication or plication surgery. I'm a little afraid of the plication only because its new to me, but I felt the exact same way before I had my lap band surgery. Any response is welcomed.

Hey everyone, My revision was done all at once July 2013. I started at 174 and a bmi of 28 so I knew I'd lose slower than most but 22 lbs in 4 mths is getting ridiculous. Someone reminded me the other day that I've lost 50% of my excess weight (still need to lose 22 lbs to goal) in 4 mths and that was great. I know I shouldn't compare myself with others on here but some people are losing incredible amounts of weight. Are these just the VSG only people or are some of us revisionists in that category also? I am 2.5 years out from having my lap band. I lost over 120lbs in the first year. Since about the beginning of year two I have been struggling. I had an overfill and had to have Fluid removed. Since then I've had fills and unfills. I've put back about 40lbs. I have also been struggling with acid reflux severely at night. I had an endoscopy. Tried different kind of acid reducers, not eating 4+ hours before bed and it still doesn't go away. The only time I do not experience the reflux is if my band is pretty much unfilled (less than 2cc) which means I have no restriction. Hello Converters, I asked the question of weather or not my band will still be full (as it is now) or will the fluid be taken out before having the band removed. I asked this question over the phone when I called the surgeons office about another matter. The assistant put me on hold and then came back and said "THEY SAID NO, THEY'LL JUST CUT IT OUT". She laughed and said "THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING". I thought it was a logical question but I felt dumb for asking. So is the real answer FILLED or UNFILLED? Hi Everyone, I ended up in the ER a few weeks ago after a routine fill on my band, unable to swallow even liquid. My body thought I was choking so it kept sending saliva to my espophagus, with no way for it to go down (completely swollen shut). It was horrible. Radiologist said I need to get it out asap. Primary care doc is not familiar with bands at all and wasn't sure what to write. So I offered to write the letter of request to Cigna for her to put on her letterhead. I've searched everywhere online for a letter that outlines the dangers of leaving the band in, as well as the benefits of replacing it with the sleeve. To no avail. So I feel like I'm ranting, but I'm really searching for information. My 08 band has slipped, pouch is stretch, so-on & so forth. Insurance WILL NOT pay for revision to sleeve - denied for not seeing doctor for 3 years, might not cover fixing of this band and will only cover "emergent" to take the band out. The PA said I can live on a 2-4 week liquid diet, high protein, low cards and they'd try to submit for insurance to cover going in a repositioning this band. Is this safe? I had my port replacement done yesterday . Much easier time than original procedure . Only have two large incisions which hurt only on movement. My surgeon said the port was defective and nothing wrong on my part. I feel like I am starting fresh and excited to finally get the scale moving in the right direction . Thanks for all the support

I dont mind if I am a slower loser. I just want to be mentally prepared. Compared to your non revision PEERS- are you slower, or the same? Also, do we reach goal weight at all? Or are we the same as our non revision peers? Some do, some dont? I know we shouldnt compare ourselves to others! I know everyone is different. I'm asking Generally. My surgery was yesterday. It was 3 hours. The majority of the time was spent repairing the hernia. But he was able to remove lapband, repair the hernia and do the bypass. Pain is not too bad just sore from the hernia repair and I have a jp drain and I'm a pain pump line connected to one of the incisions. I hope to go home today.
