5 Months Post Op, Revision Needed

Ok, so I am five months post open, sleeved October 7, 2013. I am down over 100 pounds since surgery date. I lost just under a 100 pounds by my three month post open date, which was amazing. I felt and do feel like a whole new person. The past 6-8 weeks I've been a bit more sensitive to foods. I still get in my protein, but my food sensitivity is pretty extravagant I guess. Had some testing done, and yesterday and a full Endoscopy where they gave full anaesthesia in case I needed balloon dil plus they wanted to do extensive evaluation on the stomach. Well, the outcome? My stomach is very much twisted, twirled and 'kinked'. I asked myself and the Doctor how the shell this could happen, especially since I've done what I am supposed to and have been so successful! Well, it turns out that because my weight loss was so rapid and successful it actually caused my new pouch and inside to twist and dance. I was shocked, and scared because I've never heard of this. I spoke with the Doctor extensively, and revision surgery is needed. Got the call today and go in Tuesday for surgery. This is not common and happens in less then 0.02% of patients. Just know that losing so much so quickly could have this possible effect, although rare, still possible. Now I will be a revision patient, and have surgery again, and go through it all over again plus more. I'm staying positive and I wish everyone the best. I just wanted to briefly share a little bit of my success story, as well as the negative effect. I will say, NO REGRETS, never felt better! Hope everyone is doing well, pre open and post open.

Good luck to you! Prayers for a smooth revision and speedy recovery

Thank you Dania! Means a lot to me! Will keep you posted :)

Please do! My husband had a lap band placed June 2008, he lost almost 100 lbs with it and then gained it all back. He is set to have the band removed 3/24 and then wait 2-3 months to get the gastric sleeve. I am looking to learn more from everyone so that I may be the best support for him! Please let us know how the revision goes :)

Sorry that you are going through this! Good luck and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Wow! Well done for losing 100 pounds.

And, it sounds very stressful having to have another surgery so I hope you are doing OK with this. I sending you positive thoughts. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to keep your spirits up.

Do you mind me asking what is the medical term fir what you've experienced? And what surgery you are having? Is it to untwist your stomach or is it a re-sleeve or something else?

I am preop so want to make sure that I understand all the possible complications. I am still nervously waiting for a date :/

My stomach is very much twisted, twirled and 'kinked'.

Rensterness:

Sounds like you've got the right attitude to get through this with a positive outcome.

Best wishes to you next week. Please let us know how you're doing.

Sue

So sorry for your complications. But you have done awesome( a bit jealous...haha).. You will get thru this just fine and it will all work out for the best . Prayers are with you and try not to stress too much..

It must have been a shock to get that diagnosis--but as others have said, I'm glad you got the information now rather than suffering really serious complications later down the road. Thank goodness there IS such a thing as a revision, imagine if there was nothing anyone could do to help your twisting tummy??

You have an awesome outlook, and it sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders and a solid, supportive medical team. You're going to do just fine; hang in there, and keep us posted on your progress.

So sorry you have to go through this! Best of luck to you.

We all can learn from this if it don't feel right it might be time to see Doc and not continue till it gets worse.

It's very uncommon for it to happen, and something that seems to be more of a discovery from what the doctors have told me. They have a couple different procedures they are billed under such as sleeve revision, revision, sleeve revision to bypass, sleeve revision to partial, and revision to bypass. Mine is under sleeve revision to partial. They will be going in, removing my staples from my pouch, stapling it against the wall, restapling and doing some 'moving'. It is stressful to know I have to go through this, but I can truthfully say it is all worth is and I have no regrets what so ever! :-)

I'm very greatful that it can be fixed, if it couldn't idk what I would do. I am greatful for the success that I have had and even if I could go back in time knowing I'd be back in for surgery five months later I wouldn't take it back. This has truly been the best decision I have made with no regrets at all. Thanks for the thoughts and encouragement and will keep you posted! :-)
