Hi everyone, My 42 birthday present to myself is the first major step to improving my health. I have struggled with my weight all of my life even when I played junior college basketball I was still just shy of 200 pounds. I am a registered nurse who has seen all of awful things that can go wrong being morbidly obese and gastric bypass surgery. I chose life. I chose to live a fruit life, running after my 2 year old miracle toddler. I chose to fight against high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, sleep apnea, and gerd. My loving husband of 8 years supports me in his own way, if you know what I mean. He is also morbidly obese and I pray that he doesn't become a barrier. I am …

Hi Everyone~ This isn't the first time I've been on this forum. I was referred to VST by a patient of mine after asking her about her experience having the sleeve. She had given me several sites to check out in order to help me with my decision that I have been sitting on for almost 2 years. After going through the site and reading what others had/are going through, I decided to take the plunge. Within a 2 months time, I did all of my bloodwork, psych eval, doctor visits, etc. Then set my date for 11/13 for my surgery. I have been overweight ever since college and my highest weight reached was 252 lbs. Throughout my life, I have been involved with sports, my photography…

Aloha, everyone! I went to my first bariatric informational meeting last week, and it was just WONDERFUL! It was run by my surgeon, his nurse, and his bariatric coordinator. The Director of the Bariatric Program was supposed to be there, too, but was on vacation. Doc spoke for about an hour, and answered any questions that we had. We also had a former patient, who had lost over 200 pounds, speak to us. He was inspiring and hilarious. I was going to stick around for the support group afterward, but wasn't feeling well, so I had to leave. But his staff was everything I could ask for, and more. They're there for the patient every step of the way. Anyway, the coordinator ca…

I just finished the last item on to do list for the surgery last week. I am finally at peace with my decision and ready to do this. 1. Money (Check) 2. Blood Work (Check) 3. EKG (Check) 4. Meet with Nut (Check) 5. Start a Pre-Surgery Diet (Check) - (Lost 30lbs, woo hoo!) 6. Psych Eval (Check) Surprise bill from from IRS - What??????? There was a problem with our 2010 Taxes and we just got a bill for about $4,000. Ugh! I've called our CPA to figure out what (the blank) happend. Oh gee he mysteriously no longer works for the firm. The only good thing is that the owner of the firm called me and will help us figure out what happend. I am soooo bummed. Th…

It has been one week since my surgery. Everything is going well. The hard part for me is wanting to eat normal food. I realize I can't eat much but the liquids and taste of the protein is hard for me. I'm feeling very well and excited about what the future holds.

Well I made it to one month! The journey has been a very happy one so far. I have struggled with stalls and trying to perfect the diet but all in all I couldn't be happier. Yesterday I went to Nordstrom's and Dillard's and was actually able to shop there! My "comfort jeans" were a 48 and this weekend I was cruzing around in 40's! I couldn't tell you the last time I was able to buy nice clothes! Here is a couple pic's from yesterday and a starter pic. I am down 30lbs since surgery and 70 since I began the journey. Good luck to everybody this Thursday (Thanksgiving)!!!!!!!

Hi my name is Jami and I just recently had the lapband procedure. It has been close to 5 days now and I have lost 8.5 pounds. I have a few questions though. What is the probability of me having to have skin removal? Why does my stomach rumble so bad and hurt in the evenings? If anyone has any suggestion or comments they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

For the last 5 years or so I've put a lot of weight on and for that reason I hate the way that I look. I don't like people taking my photo. I have 2 gorgeous kids and there is only a coupe of photo's of me with them. After reading this I have a few more photo's now. I'm considering lap band surgery and have an appt to see a surgeon in 2 weeks. Fingers crossed my surgeon approves me and I can make up for all the photo's I should have taken. It's definitely worth a read. http://www.ivillage.com.au/the-mum-stays-in-the-picture/154242

Hi everyone, My names Dean. In a 43 years old, married with 8 year old twin girls. I'm a Detective with the Queensland Police. I had my surgery on the 7th Nov (12 days ago) and I'm feeling pretty good. My starting weight was 137kgs (301.4) After the 2 week pre op diet I was 130kgs (286) on the day of surgery. After the first week I was happy to lose another 5 kgs (11) and was at 125kgs (275). So 12kg (26.4) in total. Looking forward to getting to know everyone. This week my weight seems to have really slowed, it looks like I'll lose about a pound, maybe. I'm not too worried, I know this is a long road, but I was surprised that the weight loss slowed up so quickl…

Hey all! I just had my surgery on Tuesday and I feel like I could die. I'm jealous of everyone that says the feel great. I am 35/F preop weight was 244.5 at my last dr visit. I don't remember what it was the morning of surgery because I was already sick before then, my husband drove me to the hospital that morning and I laid the seat back with my eyes covered the whole way there. :-( Anyway, so here I am only 4 days post op and I feel no energy, tired, and how in the hell am I gonna make it the rest of the 2 weeks, or 10 days. I'm feeling very discouraged at this point. I'm barely getting in my liquids, in fact getting nowhere close to what they want me to be at and the…

I am considering this weight loss surgery for myself. My Mom had an old school gastric bypass almost 10 years ago, it hasn't gone well for her, so I am hesitant. My insurance covers it. I am female, I currently weigh 240 and I am 5'6. I'd love to have some advice on if this is worth it. I have struggled my whole life to keep my weight down, and have never been successful.

After six quick months, I will finally be sleeved tomorrow. I joined this site in May right after my PCP put my referral through. I jumped through all of Kaiser's hoops and met some amazing people along the way. This site and the posters here have been invaluable to me during these six months, and will continue to be as I finally become a post-op patient. The advice, kind words, and support I have experienced here have been amazing. I can't wait to come back from the hospital on Tuesday and write to you all as someone who has been sleeved. Thank you for everything! Allison

Hi, this is my 2nd post! I have so many questions! Ok, i was wondering if there are any low BMI bandsters (my bmi is 33) who had a successful weight loss in the first month. After 30 years of struggle, i am definitely not in a hurry and will give this the time it needs, but i know how i work and would like to hit the ground running if possible to set the tone for my journey. Even an initial good loss of say 10-20lbs the first month followed by a long-ish stall is ok.... i just wanna make sure i do everything i can to not have a situation where i don't see ANY results post op and have some kind of post op depression. Like i said, i know it will take time, and i have …

So I was sleeved 11/16. Woke up started walking& doing spirometer. At about 3 am BP tanked down to 70s/40s& got a 1 liter bolus. 2 hrs later tried to go to bathtoom&said I'm going to blackout' tried to lean back to bed. But somehow ended up on floor. Next thing I knew all my co-workers (yep i work here, no privacy for me)were lifting me back to bed. Blacked out again woke up in the middle of a code speed w/ HR in 150s& Bp down to 70s. Got 2 liters of fluid& 2 units of blood. Doc moved my gastrograffin swallow til today& said I might still be bleeding from staple line. Very weak now. Sleeping a lot/too much. 2 years after my surgery, I still vomiting almost every day, and I did not loose any pounds. In June I tried to talk with my doctor and, the advice he gave to me was to take off "my band", he did not believe when I said that I am not a eating person, I already tried to have my 4 meals, but I could not do it, and when I have my dinner, almost every day I throw up. Now I am very depressed, I don't have any energy, I just think this surgery did not work for me, I know I have a very slow metabolism, I have hypothyroidism and he did not want to fill my band because I still vomit. And I have been thinking of another surgery. I would like to know if anyone has been going throug…

So nauseous. I can barely get any Protein in. All I do is sip Water. Plus I only feel ok if I'm laying down. The second I get up I am so nauseous. Doctor prescribed dissolvable zofran. It helps the first hour but then the next five are agony. Did anyone else experience this??? I'm regretting my decision to have the surgery. I just want to feel better.

Hi, This is my first post! I am getting banded on dec 17th - I have done a ton of research and am absolutely certain of this decision. I have also made the decision to not share the fact that i'm getting banded with EVERYONE. There are certain friends who would not only object, but hold it over me and make me feel inferior or like there is something "wrong" with me cos i need a band (i know, why are they my friends right? not the point though) The extremely slow eating, tiny bites, possible "stuck" or burp/slime episodes..... i know these things happen if u aren't careful which i plan on being, but i also know it can easily happen if you're not thinking for a split se…

I have had my sleeve for 11 days now and decided to try 3 teaspoons on fromage frais yesterday. I ate it really slowly (took about 45 mins) it felt fine going down but about an hour and a half later I had the most horrendous diarrhoea. Is this normal as I haven't eating for a while? I know I'm not lactose intolerant as I manage my whey protein shakes. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Anyway this will be my second surgery, I'm having the lap band removed, and having the RNY done. The 27th is my surgery date. I know I will get through this, but I'm a little afraid. With the band, I have lost 100 pounds and now, I'm ready to move on and lose another 120lbs. I feel this is a good time to have it done, and avoid the holiday pig out. I have come way to far to turn back now. I have begun donating clothes to the Salvation Army, this way I, I will not turn back.

Hey guys, its been two years, I had my sleeve on November 17, 2010. My Starting weight was 580 pounds. Today I'm at 260 pounds. I'm at a stand still on losing weight and I'm happy with that, I would like to get down to 240 but I'm not in a hurry, I can eat what I want and do what I want. I'm off most of my prescriptions, High blood pressure medicine, Cholesterol medicine, Diabetes medicine, I have more energy then I have ever had. This has been a roller coaster of emotions but it was the best thing that I have ever done. If anyone has any question feel free to ask me anything.

Hi! Im new to this site..been lurking on the sleeve site for a bit. I just started the process. Im 3 months out of six on my supervised diet. Have my psych eval scheduled for January. I am having to switch insurances in January to hopefully get approved. My husbands insurance will NOT cover WLS for any reason. Thru my employer it hopefully will after all the hoops are jumped thru. I apologise in advance if this question has been hammered into the ground. I can't seem to find it. The big question....how did you decide which surgery to have? Did you just go by the recommendations of your surgeon? How much input did you have into your surgery? WHY did you ch…
