  1. Started by BopPop,

FINALLY hit the 100+ pounds lost this morning! One month since surgery and a one week stall.......frustrating. I lost 77 pounds before surgery and the last 24 in the last month since surgery. I had a one week stall, but finally realized that 400 cal per day was causing the stall. Got back up to 800 calories/day and started loosing again. Took a couple of trousers in yesterday and the tailor is going to take in 7inches.......the back pockets meet, so I guess the next time I will have to buy new clothes. This is 33% of my goal. Started the "full bariatric diet Thursday and real food tastes so good! Have had nothing but protein shakes and a small salad May 2 thru O…

  2. I am hoping my surgeon will recommend the lap band. My first visit is November 16,2012. Tuesday, November 6 was one of the happiest days of my life. I found out that my insurance will pay 100% of surgery. Within one hour of finding out I called the Dr's office to find out the next seminar. I was starting within an hour. I dropped everything I was doing to make it there. By Thursday I received a call from their office stating that I was approved but had to go through a 3month period where I need to try to lose some weight with by other methods. Can anyone shed any light on this if you have gone through this process.

On Saturday, 10/20/12, I participated in my first 5K ever. Less than five months ago I could barely walk from my car to my house - and now I just walked 3.2 miles. I am so humbled, so thankful, so grateful. Why me? Why not me!!!! It's my turn - and I am choosing life! The walk wasn't easy. I don't think I've ever walked that far before. I wanted to stop three times - and thought maybe I'd never get up so I just kept going. I ended up cheering other walkers on (this was the American Diabetes Association Walk for Life in Chicago). Cheering others on helped me forget how tired I was. How much my legs and feet wanted a break. But this wasn't so much about legs and feet - …

  12. Hello, I'm new here and I guess I'm a little nervous. I started my research on the lap band about a year ago and I kept talking myself out of doing it, I guess I wasn't ready to let go of my very comfortable carb loving life... Finally 12 months later I made the right decision and am now scheduled for surgery on May 1st... I'm very nervous, I know this is the right choice for me but it's a HUGE life changer.

Hi ya'll. This is my first post! I just got banded on Wednesday Nov 7,2012! I went to UC outpatient hospital and all the nurses and my surgeon, Brad Watkins were awesome to work with! I had tried every medication out there, weight loss program etc for YEARS and nothing had ever helped me. That's how I got to to this point of getting LapBand! It's been 2 days since the surgery and I am still in pain all over my stomach, chest, and shoulders, and haven't been able to drink much. Is this normal? I had 3 small cups of water yesterday and am TRYING to slowly drink a protein shake this morning but its really hard since I'm not hungry at all!

Hello Everyone! I had my VSG on November 6th, early in the morning. Technically I am 4 days post-op, but because I had it so early...I'm saying I'm 5. I had my surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. It was done by Dr. Todd Kellogg and a wonderful team of residents, CRNAs, anesthesiologists, nurses and pharmacy personnel. I was very well taken care of. Dr. Kellogg was absolutely wonderful! He is new to Mayo Clinic, but has practiced at the UofM for the past 15, or so, years. He has a really good bedside manner, and I really felt like he cared about me and my feelings. He explained the different surgeries in detail, and never pressured me to choose one o…

Aloha, everyone! I've been contemplating weight loss surgery for a couple of years now. Within the last month, both my niece AND coworker had the RNY surgery (by the SAME surgeon!), and they already look and feel great! I've also met this surgeon once a couple of years ago when he installed a chemotherapy port for my dad. I keep running into him whenever I take my dad for his monthly chemo appointments. Finally, as i was perusing THIS site last week as i was waiting for my dad in the hospital, this surgeon walked by me again! I thought "Someone must be telling me something." I had an appointment with my regular doctor today, and broached the subject of bypass with him. …

As far as exercise,I'm definitely slacking. I work the overnight shift so sleep is my priority most days..I feel guilty for not doing much as far as exercising, but I do the best I can..I have no regrets, sometimes I miss certain foods, & the whole social aspect of eating, but to me,this whole experience was worth it.

Despite losing all this weight, I'm still using my bi-pap machine because my sleep apnea has not resolved. Today I had to make a run to the office of the company that services my bi-pap machine for supplies. While there, I talked to the tech (Mary) who handles my case and she asked me about the pain level and complication rates of the sleeve. Since this gal is tiny, I was curious about why she was asking these questions and she took me deep into the office to meet one of her co-workers, who I'll call Jane. Jane is about 300 pounds, in her mid-30's and has been researching WLS, including both the band and the sleeve. Mary asked me to talk to Jane about my surgery and I w…

Did you find it helpful? Was its removal painful or merely uncomfortable? My surgeon and my primary care physician insist that the catheter removal is not painful. I have made the conscious decision not to share my decision to have the gastric sleeve surgery with people for that very reason. I have only shared the news with my sister and brother in law. Well here it goes my story. I started this process over a year ago. I have almost all of my clearances just a couple more to go. But I haven't done them cuz I'm scared. Scared of the surgery scared of what it's gonna be like after the surgery? Also I have had a really hard time quitting smoking! That's been the hardest part for me in this whole process. I just know this is what I have to do to help get me back to being healthy, but I'm just scared! Anyone else out there share what I'm feeling, or been where I am right now? Ill take any and all advice at this point. I've decided to have the surgery but just have to get up the courage to actually do it.
