I had my sleeve surgery on the 30th and got to come home yesterday. I am doing pretty good....still pretty sore & stiff but no real pain, but overall doing great. It is tough to try keeping track of everything I consume and do, but I just have to get used to it! My doctor makes all his patients take Lovenox (blood thinner) shots for 11 days after we come home to help reduce the risk of blood clots. Fair warning.....after my insurance paid their part, it still cost me more than $300 for only 11 injections! Dang!!! But when you gotta have it, you gotta have it! Good luck to everyone!!

I had the lapriscopic gastric bypass surgery on October 30th 2012. I am 22 year old female from Minnesota. When I went in for surgery I weighted in at 288 pounds. Size 18 jeans and triple x shirt. I have high blood pressure and I'm borderline diabetic. I have to small children who I owe you everything to. They are my reason for having this surgery. Two days out of surgery and I can say I'm feeling pretty good. I'm still pretty sore. Just kinda curious as to what I should be eating so close to after surgery.

So, I'm about a month in on my 3-month pre-op program. Since my first official doctor visit was on 2-October, I'm looking at early January for my surgery. I've been dieting again - the usual; 1800 cal, 200 Protein, 100 carb per day, and so far, I've seen around an 11# loss. One of the guys here at work in the warehouse has noticed, which is cool. I was talking to him yesterday, and he was saying how he wants to organize a weight-loss competition to start with the new year. Apparently, he has no will-power (or desire to have any) over the holidays. Also, know, that I think I've only told one other person here at work about my VSG plans, so I'm thinking, "I'm in!!" …

Yes, I'm a pastry chef, cake designer, cupcake maker...I own a successfull cake business and I'm on day one of my pre-op liquid diet. I have no idea how I will ever make it through these 9 days...working in the bakery this morning, I quickly realized how bad my habits were. I kept grabbing, unconsciously for cookie dough, an extra piece of chocolate, a little lick of frosting and had to stop myself. Honestly, I don't know if I even did take a sample of anything, my unconscious eating habits have gotten that bad. I'm starving...I have a headache and I just want to stuff a turkey club, chips and a cupcake in my mouth. I certainly hope this gets better after surgery, an…

Hi everyone! I'm new here, still learning the ropes. I am 2 years post-op. best decision I ever made. My surgeon is dr. Vollinger in Charlotte, NC, he is great. I have had an easy journey so far, just lately getting food stuck. Not a pleasant experience, gonna try to prevent this at all times. My band is 10cc with a 4.4 fill. It works fine this way, if I go any higher I get reflux at night. Haven't had an adjustment in awhile. Only thing, this week I haven't been able to get food down since Tuesday after I ate some BBQ potato chips and a few cashew nuts! For dinner that night, tried 1 bite of fish and spent an hour in the bathroom PBing and in pain. Is this normal? I ca…

Hi! New here! I had my band surgery in 2006. I lost a bit over 100 pounds but had all fluid taken out due to severe anemia. I am starting to be refilled and need some emotional support! I have gained 60 pounds due to poor habits. I know how to do the band, just need a boost to get back on track! Thanks

Surgery was 10/22/12 and everything went really well. And 17 pounds lost since surgery. I'm thrilled but I also feel really weepy. Maybe it's lack of good sleep. Plus, I am so sick of sweet tasting things. The shakes, jello,Popsicles ....yuck. On Sunday I can add some strained veggies , maybe that will help. I have lots of support and help which I really appreciate. But right now I just feel like locking the door, turning off the phone and crawling into bed. Blahhhhhh! Anyone else really emotional?

I had my lapband surgery almost 4 years ago and have lost 86 lbs. -- 45 lbs. the first year, 10 each of the next two, and about 20 in the past year. Ideally, I'll lose 20 more, which is a luxury to say. Although the weight loss has been slow -- or perhaps because of it -- I'm very grateful. I have ongoing challenges, e.g., some of these least healthy foods (ice cream, cookies) go down the easiest, and the fiberous, healthy ones (fish, some vegetables) get stuck or I reflux them up. It's a learning process and I'm a bit nervous that I've substituted online shopping for eating (although I still do eat too much at times).

I have been on this journey since January of 2012 - through two surgery centers (found out 3 months in that the surgeon had only done 5 surgeries!), full testing for both and a 6 month "diet" with my PCP. Got approval today and now I wait for the surgeon's office to give me the date. It's all real now...not just theory and lots of reading of forums. I am 67 years old and at this tender age I have learned a few things...one is patience. I waited nearly 50 years to reunite with my hight school sweetheart and finally marry him (2 years now!). You are never too old to start a new life and do it right. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. Bless you all for an…

OK...so I wanted to explain to my 13 yr old daughter what exactly was going on. So we pull up You Tube and watch the procedure that is going to happen. She was a little skidish at first but continued to watch.... After it was watched and all questions answered, she says to me "Mom, that is just a pure lie!" I am floored because I have thought I did a good job explaining and even included video. She continues on and says "You are not as pretty on the inside as the outside." I could barely contain my laughter! Told her that was technically true. It made my day.

Hi I began my journey almost five years ago with the lapband. Started at 285 and a year later was down to 235. After eight years of infertility we conceived in 2010, baby was born on 1/10/11. Our son is such a blessing. Vomited till he was delivered, developed a hyetal hernia, band complications and gained 20 lbs. It was getting incredibly difficult to keep up with my son so I decided to talk to my surgeon about a revision which he supported. Got approved in a week and when I got the call to schedule it was for the following week. Starting weight 256, day of surgery:252 8/3/12 Current: 233 Nice to meet you all!

I am so upset with myself. I started my journey earlier this year. I have all my appointments done, my nut done, my psych done and my surgery date of 12/18//2012. I was so psyched and came here and read and studied and took notes and starting jumping into conversations and trying to make a home for myself. And then, the crap with my thyroid started. And it took off like a rocket. I went from a few months ago to not even knowing i had a thyroid to having a total thyroidectomy 3 weeks ago. And I lost my steam. My motivation. For some reason, I really don't care about the surgery. But I do..KWIM? Granted I have dealt with horrible vertigo from my inner ear since …

I feel like I've been waiting for this forever! I had to quit smoking, which by all accounts is the best thing I've ever done. Then it was all the hoops, and ridiculous "medical supervised weight loss", what a joke. So now I have a date, I'm just so worried the psychologist will call my surgeon and tell him, "you know, she didn't seem crazy, but I know how to make her crazy!" or the sleep doctor will say, "we need you to come back for a month long sleep study..." every day drags into weeks. 49 days. I wonder if my surgeon would mind if I camped out at his office??

Greetings all, I am just going to lay it all out there because that is WHAT I DO! I am active duty military and I want to continue my military career! I have had two children back to back and since then have struggle significantly to lose weight (story of my life). I absolutely LOVE serving my country and want nothing more than to continue. Weight Loss surgery is actually frowned upon and could get me in a lot of trouble, but so could being overweight. I am at a cross roads with what to do. I already know I will come out of pocket if I was going to follow thru. My question is, from start to finish how long did it take to get banded? Time is NOT on my side and this may be…

I've been to the seminar and have gotten a few tests done. Waiting on my Dr.'s office to get more records to them. So I've just been researching on the internet alot and eating anything I can get my hands on until the day I can't do that anymore. I know, it's not good and I know I've gained some weight just in these last months waiting. I've been struggling with my weight since puberty. It wasn't so bad when I was young and playing any sport I could but even then it wasn't easy. I've had two c-sections with 10lb babies and a botched spinal fusion, then a revision surgery from the front and back. oww. Then I just had a spinal stimulator inplanted a few weeks ago. I'm nervo…

Since early July 2012 I have been attending a bariatric surgery program. I am new here. I had my sleeve surgery don Friday Oct 26 2012: so far no complications, just trying to figure everything out. I'm still on liquids. I seem to be doing well. The first day it was hard to get it all in but the last two days has been easier. I can drink a lot more without feeling full. Was beginning to wonder if this thing is working. But after reading some posts on here I found that is normal and the restriction comes when I start foods. You guys really cover everything. A little about me, my starting weight was 368 and I was 354 at surgery. My first post op visit is Nov 12 and I don't really want to weigh until then because I don't want to bec…

The start of my journey began about two years ago. I started having bad stomach issue where they pain was getting bad. At frist the doctor thought it was my meds. Then they thought it was milk and other foods. Then moved on to stress and work related. I know none of them will admit it but I believe some even thought I was making it up. Very time I ate no matter what I ate I was in pain. I went in for a test where they have the machine watch me eat an egg sandwich. My egg sandwich did not move at all from my stomach. After four hours the guy giving the test sent me home and send it is not going any where. So then I was told that I have Gastroparesis really bad. They sent …

I am 35yo female. I made the decision to have bypass surgery. I only have to do 3 months with dietitian before i'm able to schedule. I had my first appointment yesterday. All the "food stuff " makes me feel overwhelmed. I haven't been to a support group get but I am planning on it. I don't know anyone else going thru this. My fiance is very apprehensive about me doing this. He is all for me getting healthy and hopefully getting better as far as my diabetes and htn. He has just heard all the horror stories and is worried. Any ideas about how to calm his fears? Thanks!

Hi everyone, my name is Becky and I have been on this site for about a month now and I can't say enough good things about the people on this site. I have not shared my story yet because 1.) it's not the normal journey 2.) I never wanted to scare anyone who was preparing for surgery and 3) it's still very difficult to talk about. So here goes nothin! I was banded back in 2007 and had the typical problems with vomiting and terrible heartburn/reflux. I started my journey at 245 lbs and after my first year with the band I got down to 170...not bad! Unfortunately, I misused the band and ate whatever I wanted and then threw it up. I did this every day after almost every meal.…

Hi everyone, just wanted to drop in before I go to sleep and get the ball rolling. My surgery (Realize Band) was performed by Dr. Jeffery Hannon in Mobile, AL, January 2009. My story might be depressing to some of you just starting out, but the good news is that I'm here right now, taking the proverbial "bull by the horns", right!? Four months post-op, I was doing great! I had lost almost 60lbs and was going to be fitted for wedding gowns, and then life just laughed and said "oh, how cute!"-- I found out I was pregnant and Dr. H immediately had me come in to have a complete unfill. My son was born in February of 2010 and I had put on 35 of the 60lbs that I'd lost. T…
