My name is Bob! I have been struggling with my weight and diabetes for years and I have been debating the lap band surgery for awhile, I want to start the process but my Dr is not on board with me having surgery. I don't know what to do. Anyone have suggestions?

What is the reason your doctor is not on board about your surgery? What is your weight right now? If you feel you need to do this then find another doctor who would be. What is your medical history we can't help you if you don't tell us more details.

Hi Bob, I haven't actually had it done yet. I do have my appt to see the surgeon in a couple of weeks. I guess you need to try and understand his reasons then weigh them up against your own. I also have struggled with my weight for all that I can remember. I told family and a few friends about 12 months ago that I was thinking about it and they talked me out of it. Thinking it was a drastic move that I didn't need it. That some more exercise and healthier smaller meals would help!! ( hmmmm why didn't I think of that?? Lol ) I feel like I've tried everything that's why I'm thinking of lap band. I'm now wishing I hadn't listened to them as I could have been well on my way with it. I'm now going ahead with it and not telling them. . I have seen how it can change your life and I'm ready and willing to take the challenge and new life style on. ( given my surgeon in on board. ) I hope that you make the decision for you!! Maybe you could get opinion from another doctor? You are the one that needs to be happy!! It's your life.. You have the right to be happy. Good Luck!

It took me a whole year from my original consultation to decide to do this. I am very pleased with the way things are going.

My friends and relatives also tried to talk me out of it last year. When I finally decided in September that I was going to do it I only told a couple of people and told them straight out if they werent going to be supportive then I didnt need them in my life. I know it was harsh but I figured it was time to look after me for a change. They are still in my life and are being as supportive as they can. I appreciate their efforts.

Let us know what you decide.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
