Hi from Nevada. I should have my surgery by the end of November. I had the gastric bypass in 2003 and unfortunately had severe complications. I lost quite a bit of weight but gained it back after having 6 back surgeries. So, now I am having the lap band done. I am extremely excited and determined to make the appropriate changes. I am nervous but can't wait.

Hi, I'm Shanitha. I am 33, single, childless, and ready to shed 100+ lbs. I was looking at the sleeve but my insurance won't cover it. Didn't want the bypass b/c didn't want things rerouted. In addition to the sleep apnea I've developed, I have lupus, fibromyalgia, and pulmonary hypertension...taking various meds have helped pack.on the pounds and I hurt too much to exercise like I should. Basically, I'm tired of being the fat girl and want to experience life on the healthier, slimmer side. Here to be a sponge and soak up all helpful info!

I went to a seminar a few weeks ago and a consult today. The doctor told me the band has a high fail rate and 5 years out most regain all their weight. She said I should consider getting the gastric sleeve. The band sounds safer to me. The surgery will be in Petoskey.

Hello, I am so thankful for all the info on this site! I am a 51 year old, wife, mom, grandma and friend. I run a small investigation firm in Northern California. I had my surgery 10/18. I am a Kaiser SSF patient. Dr. Khayat and his support staff were amazing! I felt informed or overinformed all the way thorugh. I was very frustrated by stalls. Failing the first psyche exam and filling conditions. But with all that I still had surgery in record time. In May, I attended orientation (289lbs.). On July 2nd I attended lifestyles 1 and began pre-op diet (273lbs). September 19th I got my date! On the day of surgery I was 258lbs. Today I am 243.2. Feeling good mostly. From w…

Been sleeved about 1 month so far 10/3/11. Doing awesome. Starting weight was 247, had type 2 diabetes for 13 yrs since pregnancy of first child, on meds for blood pressure, cholesterol. Surgery was done at Reading Hospital, Pennsylvania by Dr. Ceppa. I am now at 224lbs. I had to post (my first) because this forum has been a life saver for me. I am able to get on here, and look just about anything up. Everyone who had previously posted, was able to answer so many questions. I encourage anyone thinking about getting the surgery to become a member. Especially if you do not know anyone with the sleeve. Very comforting!

I was banded 5 days ago and I am feeling worse. I am still on liquids and haven't strayed a bit from that. But each time I have a protein drink, I feel sick. I haven't thrown up...thank goodness. I also have a horrible pain on the left side, sometimes almost doubled over. I have drank a lot of water and tried to walk. I had to lay in bed all day yesterday because it hurt so bad. Anyone else have this?

  14. I just want to be selfish for a minute and vent. I am 4 mths out and have reached my goal weight of 165. And guess what........nobody cares ! Not my friend that had a sleeve done a year ago yep that same one I supported from day one. Which included picking her up at 330am the day of her surgery. Most certainly not my pregnant Aunt who has had 2 children since her gastric bypass and is pregnant again. Yep the same Aunt I drove from Dallas to Houston to be with when she had surgery despite being 7 mths pregnant at the time. Then come two of my other friends who I love dearly . One I can always count on but she is struggling with her weight and trying to do it the "natural"…

Well winter is showing it's ugly face around here and with it comes the blahs. I hate to be cold, I ache from head to foot durring the winter from arthritis and many other health issues I have. Since moving someplace warm is not an option, I end up staying in the house a lot. With staying home comes the tendency to get bored and one thing leads to another and I end up snacking more than I should. Food has always been my comfort and this is no exception. I have done wonderful with my sleeve and I am afraid I could easily make some wrong choices due to my winter blahs. I will get thru this, as it is a matter of being strong and making the better choices. I have c…

I am looking forward to the lap-band because I am ready to get this weight off and live my life and be healthy for myself, my kids and husband. Then in high school I had dance and Color guard all 4 years of high school so I was very active and healthy. I met my husband my senior year of high school and got an apartment with him after graduation. Hi everyone, I was banded with a 14 ml band in April 2009 in the U.K. Only my family and a couple of very close friends knew about it. I had some weight loss - but not much - about 21lbs . To be honest I thought it would be miraculous.... it wasn't. I thought I knew what I was doing...I didn't. From July 2009 through to February 2010, all four of my family, child, partner, mother and brother, had five surgeries between them and three acute illnessess. I was distracted and did nothing to support my band at that time. I had a fill in February 2010 but from March 2010 an illness (unrelated to the band) kept me off work for over 9 months, .During this time in Sept…

Hi all, I was banded six days ago and everything has been, and still is, plain sailing for me. I live and work in Turkey and had my banding done in Izmir, through a company called 'Revitalize'. The surgeon was Dr. Cenk Tokat. I have only praise for the company and the doc, even though he speaks very, very little English. I was wondering if anybody else had their procedure done here in Turkey, by the same doc as well, and what was your experiences? Happy healing - and losing! - to everyone!

  34. Hello! I'll try to be brief! I live in North Queensland. Australia and had sleeve surgery on 10 October 2012. The desire to manage my increasingly unmanageable type 2 diabetes put me on this path some 18 months ago. My father died with half a toe, my great grandmother with half a leg - I wanted extra years of life and all my limbs!! Losing weight was an added bonus. On day 5 following surgery I went from 5 tablets a day to TWO - for me, this makes everything worthwhile and I was a bit emotional when this happened, to have such instant improvement in my diabetic body was beyond what I had hoped for. I'm now 3 weeks post surgery and trying to sort out this whole ea…

He says the weight I lose will help shrink my liver and make it easier to get to where they are going to be doing the procedure. He also said that If I don't lose something that the liver Maybe too hard and they will have to postpone the surgery, because they wouldnt Want to damage the liver. I pray this isn't the case and that I will lose enough weight. I don't have a surgery date yet, I Still have tests to do but I am going to start the diet that he gave me really soon. Hi everyone I'm new on here and really enjoy reading everyone's journey. I got my lapband 2 years ago but fell pregnant before my first fill. I went back to the surgeon in April weighing 15kg more then I did before my operation. So far I have found it difficult to lose any weight I am at 5mls (10ml bband) and feel very restricted I am still not losing weight nor eating much as I am sometimes unable to tolerate liquid. Any tips for me from an experienced person on here? I work in children's services so I'm always on my feet and running around. Any help is much appreciated thanks

I live in Canada and was banded in Canada. I was a regular on another WLS community but I found the site too restrictive - we weren't able to vent or express our frustrations. The company would block the postings. I believe it is when you are frustrated that you need the most support from others. My weight loss has stalled/slowed over the last few months. I feel like I'm back on track again but you know how easy it is to fall off the wagon. It's time to get this weight off now, once and fo…

When I was 15 I weighted 130 and I was happy with that but even that was considered overweight for my 5'1" frame. Hello all, Brand new to this forum and site. I just found out that I am having my surgery on Oct 18th. I think the thing that scares me the most is the pre-op diet. My diet will consist of 4 shakes a day and one cup of veggies. Yikes! I am sooooo ready for this new beginning of my life. My weight has been a big hurdle in my life. (as most if not all of us have had) I have enjoyed what I read so far. I think this will be a good site for me and hopefully be able to give advice to people going through it later on or getting advice from people who have already. Looking forward to getting to get info from all of you!

I am so excited... I didnt use my insurance coz it is so ridiculous... I have to pay $5000 + 20% of the surgery that would total to $7000... The surgery is only $9988. So, i have decided to just pay it n my own and use the bariatric surgery some other time if I need to do the gastric bypass which I doubt. I am very excited! I don have to go in so many hoops if i go with my insurance. Government insurance sucks ... I wish they have better plans someday!
