I have done alot of research on the sleeve not so much on the RNY, my husband had RNY done 10 years ago before we met and has had several issues. I am an insulin dependant diabetic have arthritis and some other medical issues and am on several Rx drugs for those conditions so im kinda scared about the malobsortion aspect of the RNY. I am just starting my journey my consult apt with the surgeon is on Dec 3rd, I'd like to go into the apt with knowlegde on both surgeries with this being said I am wondering why you decided on the RNY over the sleeve? Please as much info as possible, thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and responding. Hope you all are well …

I think I'm more nervous about hers than I was my own. I had the sleeve in march and have awesome results and no big issues. But now that my mom is about to start the process all I can think is...what if she's one of the people that has problems and I've made it seem too easy? Has anyone gone through anything similar to this? My mom is in her 50s and her main health issue is diabetes. Des her age make her more likely to have bad side effects?

Hello Forum My name is Denise, I am 45 years old and I live in MD. I have just joined this forum to learn more about my gastric sleeve process and to get help and give help on this journey. I am almost in my 2 week post op and things are moving good but slow. I had a rough time after surgery because I was a high risk patient. What I mean by this is that I was diagnosed with systemic lupus over 14 years ago(which has been in remission, praise GOD) and I have a high risk for blood clots. I had to have a intravenous filter put in before my surgeon would touch me. After surgery I had terrible gas. It was so bad that the doctors were concerned so they ordered a upper GI and …

Hey everyone I'm getting super excited. 3 months done out of 6 for medically supervised diet. Be done in febuary and submit in march (hopefully) today I called the surgeons office because I have been waiting since august or september for my sleep study referal. And the lady at the surgeons office said he didn't put that I needed this. I'm sitting here like well he told me I do lol. Well anyways long story short, I am switching my insurance plan on march 1. And the insurance I'm switching to is much easier to be approved than the one I'm on now. So anyways she told me to call her in march to get it scheduled I totally cried! I was so worried that would push me back to june…

It's been a long process to finally arrive at this point! When you're months away it's hard to imagine the day will finally come. I've struggled with making sure I am emotionally ready for this huge change - what it would feel like to have 1/4 of a stomach, what it would be like to (possibly) not eat pasta or rice again, or not drink with a meal. It's been a challenge to "get my head around that". But I also know that I dont want to live like this anymore...and I believe this is a permanent tool to help me do that. I'm excited, but REALLY nervous. Once it's done, it's done!

I am still awaiting my final appointment for my dr supervised diet. I am a little stressed because they just had me continue doing weight watchers..which I have been up and down on and thats how each month is. The first month I lost...next gained...next lost..next gained..and we will see how it works this time. I am up and down like that with weight watchers which is why I want lap band to use as a tool. I know it's not a quick fix and I will have to work my ass off..like I do with weight watchers. I have PCOS and anyone who knows anything about it, knows it makes losing weight on your own a b*tch. I am limited on the amount of exercise I can do due to severe arthri…

I m almost three weeks post op and I have been laying around a lot. I ve been sore and tired. But I feel like tomorrow I am finally ready to start back into normal life. However I can't help feeling lonely in this whole process. Like i just don't function like the rest of the world does now. Anyone else feeling that? Friends and family have been great, but they don't have to do what I do.

Today I seen my surgeon today! The first thing he said is omg look how skinny you are getting...(all smiles) He then ask me if I can be a spokes person during his seminars and he also asked me to take pics today so I can be the first african american in his demo video. I am so excited...He said my incisions are barely visable and that is so cool, he never seen anything like that. Today built my self esteem so much... I am thankful for all the love and support I am receiving! And I thank God for all his blessings.....

Hey everyone! My name is Marilyn and I am new to this forum. Actually, I'm technologically challenged so I am not clear on how to navigate through any of this kind of stuff (just ask my 22 yr. old daughter). LOL! I had my VSG on 9.10.12. I am 2 months out and I'm down 44 lbs. and 20 1/2 inches!!! This site has been very helpful for me. I have had alot of questions and I have found many answers from ya'll. Thank you! I do not have the benefit of seeing a NUT on a regular basis. My insurance does not cover any type of weightloss procedures or dr. visits. Therefore my surgery was on a cash basis. I have a certain number of visits that are included with that package and th…

I am so grateful for this page. I had the sleeve on 10/10 and have not yet returned to work. I had to go back into the hospital for nausea and throwing up. I believe I developed lactose intolerance and couldn't and still can't keep the protein drinks down. I am glad to see I am not alone with some issues. I started to have soft eggs and trying to get protein that way. On the bright side I have lost 50 pounds and just a little weak after 5weeks out. Everyone says it gets better. I believe it will.

I dont, everyone is so afraid, I think it is the going under part that scares everyone. but that can happen with any surgery. what do you know about the dangers? we need to know. all i know is what people say here and the old videos on youtube, and those are old. if your not honest with your surgeon about your meds and problems you having drug use alcoholism and smoking, well yea you may be in danger. dont hold anything back. so many are scared, and that scares me lol.

I've waited 2 years for this surgery. Had a lap band about 5 years ago and developed the usual problems with it that many did from keeping the band too tight, and so the pouch over-expanded and caused painful reflux. The Dr. had to remove all the fluid from the band, so there was no limitation on how much I ate, and I gained the weight back again. My ins. co. wouldn't pay for a re-do on a lap band, so I had to wait till I was 65 and Medicare kicked in and till it approved the sleeve, which it finally did in July (YAY !). So, 2 months before my 66th birthday, I got sleeved! So far I'm ecstatic! Some bumps in the road for me: 1.Seems I have some temporary lactose intolera…

Hello everyone!!!! I got my insurance approval yesterday....only after 7 short days of submitting the paperwork!!! Crazy...my insurance is AWESOME!!! They'll even cover the skin removal....down the road. Anywho....I am LaWanda....I am 38 years old and (OMG....here it goes) I weigh 330 lbs!!! YIKES! I fortunately only have asthma and Hashimotos Disease. With that I have tried ( and failed) at EVERYTHING to lose weight. After seeing my Endo I was encouraged to research WLS ( I had man times prior though) and decided to consult with Dr Umbach here in Las Vegas NV. He is with The Center of Excellence and I see him all over TV. So 10/10/12 I have my consult ( with my am…

My name is Thrisha, im a newbie to the site, but ever so thankful to have found a support site. Some of my history... Im 30yrs old, severely diabetic, with pcos. my weight started being a daily struggle about 5 years ago, when my diabetes got so bad I had to be placed on an insulin. about a year ago I was placed on an insulin pump which helped me balloon to my highest weight ever of 213 on my 5"3 frame. My surgery was roux en y, gastric bypass on 10-17-2012. I weighed in at 201 pounds, today I am 27days out and 185. on nov 4 I had my gallbladder removed by emergency surgery. since then I have been hospitalized for nausea and vomiting, and dehydration. Hello Hello I'm pretty familiar with support forums, but I never thought I'd be "here" (re: my health right now and being told to consider this procedure.) I'll be honest in that I don't think I've ever truly supported these procedures unless in extreme cases. And yet, here I am. I've never looked down on anyone for having them done. I just thought I personally would always be able to get my situation under control. But I'm now looking at some new health issues and newly bad knees that have me pretty limited. The wieight issue has now become dangerous and I'm desperate. I'm glad to have found this place. It seems pretty active, and I look forward to seeing if there…

I was banded 2 days ago by Ariel Ortiz in Tijuana. Everything went well. Right now I'm in bed in my hotel room at the Marriott, mentally preparing myself for a long journey back to Detroit tomorrow (I came alone). I've been reading that people with a support system are more likely to lose it and keep it off. I live in Detroit but am often in Chicago to visit my fiance. I'm looking for someone who has also been banded to meet up once a week or once every two weeks or so in either city for moral support. Things like switching recipes, talking about problems, and just encouraging each other over coffee, lunch, or dinner. I'm looking for a female under 35 with 40-100lbs lef…

I was banded in 2008. I lost weight and then lost my momentum. I keep trying to lose and keep losing and gaining the same old thing. I thought I understood how difficult the journey would be but I didn't. I have decided to reset the process. I go in two weeks to have the x-ray and then they will empty my band. Then I go on liquid diet for two weeks and they begin to slowly fill the band. I want everyone to know you can have a second chance. I feel positive and motivated because going through the process once I do really know what to expect this time around. I also weighed and I have kept off 50 lbs. I look forward to receiving and offering support if I ever figure out how…

Hello everyone. Im a lap band conversion to sleeve person. Had too many issues with the lap band, so they removed it Sept 28. I was excited to get the sleeve but this procedure almost killed me. I had my procedure and was out of the surgery center within 5 hrs of when surgery started. Is it just me or is that the norm. Two days later, i was admitted into ICU for sever dehydration. At that point i had lost 13 lbs in two days. All i can say is i hope i made the right decision for me, but still teeter on thinking i messed up. Would i do this surgery again if i had to.. NO WAY!! This surgery was very hard on me. Tomorrow I'm three weeks out, how are people feeling at this p…

Surgery went Great- Thank God! It was yesterday, Nov 12th at 2:15pm and lasted approx 2 hrs. Yesterday was very tuff on me... I was in a lot of pain and felt nauseous. I slept a lot and walked in the evening. Yesterday I could not have food or Water... But today they are giving me ice chips... water and a little serving of Protein shake. My serving sizes are smaller than a shot glass - 1 every 15 mins. My pain is much better today... and I have walked a few times. Warm plastic heating bags have been given to me to place on my tummy and a cold one for the back of my neck- And they help! I was told that if I tolerate my fluids well I will be discharged this p.m. …
