Hi everyone. I had been thinking about weightless surgery for about 5 years. I guess my final decision to move forward was the birth of my granddaughter, Gabby who turns 3 on Christmas Day, coupled with the fact that i have had hip dysplasia since childhood, and now my left hip needs replacing. I am only 46 years old, and this is no way to live. I want to be the cool Mimi to Gabby that she deserves. I need to be in good shape, both mentally and physically to do that. I am also hopeful that the hip pain will be decreased with the weight loss. I had my VSG two days ago, and I cannot believe that part is over. When the day was approaching, I was beginning to have doubt…

Hello my name is Sarah. I turned 30 about a month ago and I was hoping to have my surgery the same day. My thought behind that: turning 30 scared the hell out of me and I thought giving myself the gift of health was perfect. Things didn't go as planned because you know, insurance. I have 2 little boys, 8 & 5, that mean the world to me and the reason for my surgery. I want to set a good example for them and be around to meet my grandchildren. I was scheduled for gastric bypass but was really wanting the sleeve. My insurance changed their guidelines on 9/24 and I was approved for the sleeve. Surgery was yesterday, 10/01/12. I am laying in the hospital bed extremely sore…

THis process has been such a long one. It started in January. I had my husbands insurance BCBS of Alabama. They do cover the surgery with 6 months of diet and excerice. You also have to have a 5 year weigh history of a Bmi over 40. So I did my 6 month of diet and excerice with tons of preop testing and even self paid for a psych eval and a EGD. We sent it to insurance and they denied me twice. My Bmi 5 years ago was a 39.8 not 40. I was so frustrated and upset. Then I told myself I'm going to get this surgery. I started looking into all the Mexican Doctors and places to have it done. My family was scared for me to go down there even though I did end up finding a good doc…

Well, it was finally my turn!! After a long year, full of appts and wait-n-see, I was sleeved Wed, 11/28! Just came home from the hospital this afternoon...I feel tired, and painful, but not horrible. Liquid lortab tastes like evil, btw...ugh...but it helps, so I take it. Clear liquids also sucked, but now that I'm home, I can have full liquids. Oh, how wonderful to taste soup and protein shakes! :-) Sip, Sip, Sip...that is the rule of today. I took a walk this evening, it felt good to move. I lost 19.5# pre-op, so I'm on my way! I love this site, there is SO MUCH information and support here!

Hi. I'm new to this website and anxious to get to know everyone. I've done all of the testing and am now waiting for insurance to approve it. I have 150 lbs minimum to lose. I know it won't happen over night and it's a lot of work. I've failed at so many attempts to lose weight so I'm hoping the lap band will be an effective tool to help me achieve my goals. I just have to get my mind and body to work together. Speaking of that, I vaguely remember someone telling me about a 12-week program to change your eating habits. It was a website and you had to sign up and pay to participate. Does anyone know about that?

My journey started in June 2012 with a seminar. I had my first appointment with the surgeon Aug. 3rd. The month of Aug and Sept were all my psych, nutrition appts, and my medical clearance. I had my educational classes in October. Now I am just waiting to hear about approval. They sent in my paperwork November 6th and should take 2-2 1/2 weeks for approval. Fingers crossed I can have surgery in the beginning of December. There is no liquid diet in the program, I have lost 9 pounds already and the surgeon would like 6 - 11 pounds more. I have been reading post for awhile and this looks like a good support while going through the motions.

I have always been about 30 lbs overweight. I have gone on numerous diets and have been able to lose 20 lbs back and forth for years. Last year I became pregnant with twins and gained over 80 lbs. My girls are now 4 months old and while I've been successful at getting some of the weight off I have about 50 lbs I still need to lose. I tried to do this through exercise and diet (even hiring a trainer for 3 days a week) since December and I have hit a plateau. I'm very tired of constantly having to manage my weight and yo yoing back and forth. After alot of research I am seriously considering the VSG procedure. I consulted with a local surgeon and also Dr. Aceves in Me…

I had my band placed 12/4/07 and I'm not sure it works. I'm either to tight or not tight enough. I've never found that sweet spot everyone talks about and I've only lost 20lbs total. Just last week I started another diet and ate carrots. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE!!! I vomited my brains out and my stomach swoll shut. I'm tired and discouraged. Anyone else out there with the same problem?

I had a lap band 3 years ago I lost a total of 74 pounds but everything came to a halt when I started getting bad acid reflex to the point of not being able to sleep because I would wake up with acid in my mouth and me chocking . I went to the doctor he ordered a scope threw my mouth that showed that my Lap band had slipped he said I have to fix it , remove it , or u can opt to get the sleeve . I decided the sleeve it would remove a foreign object and give me the same effect as the lap band . So here I am with the sleeve and having a hard time knowing which Protein powders to get and what Vitamins are good :/ .

Hi everyone, I got my lapband in September of 2010 and lost 70 lbs in one year. Since then I have been playing with 20 lbs taking if off and putting it back on at least 3 times. I am way out of control with my eating and its been difficult to reighn myself back in. I won't go for another fill because I think its a "head" rather than surgery thing. Also, every time I overeat or eat too fast I vomit so I think my band is tight enough and that I just need to eat mindfully. I guess I am looking for someone that has experienced this a few years after surgery and has gotten themselves back on track. How did you do it?

You can call me piper I'm scootish I've lurked the forums here pre op looking for answers to questions but I've nenver posted, I'm kind of shy like that I recon. I live in Oregon but I'm from California originally. I wish I had the guts to sit in front of a web cam and pour my heart like so many people I've watched over the last two years on youtube but I think I'm to private of a person (and a big chicken too!). Sadly for myself, I give those people a big Huzzah because they've helped me so much in decision making process of what was the best course of action. I lost a total of 108 Pre-op because I fired my fir…

I just found out about this site yesterday from a friend of mine. I have spent some time reading some threads and am totally inspired by the stories. When I graduated high school I weighed 150lbs. Slowly over the last 26 years I started packing on the pounds. I was no longer as active as I use too. Just started not caring. I have been married for 20 years to a wonderful woman. I have two boys (15 & 12). My boys are very active and I could not keep up with them. Also I knew my wife loved me but she just wasn't in to me as before. In March of this year I visited my doc. Last year I was diagnosed hypertensive and then found out I was diabetic. My doc sugge…

So I am a 27 year old Mother of two young children, my daughter just turned 4 years old and my son is 9 and a half months old. When I was 13 years old I gained 100lbs in one year and no one can pinpoint why. No abuse happened at that time, no sob story or traumatic event... I just ballooned the second I hit puberty. I had always been teased about being fat anyway so I can't say that I really noticed other than needing to shop in "the adult fat people's section" instead of being a tween shopping in the regular adult's section. I have easily been 100lbs+ overweight from that point on no matter what I have done the smallest I have ever been for the last 14 years was 199lbs t…

I am so excited; I have 4 days left until sleeve date! December 3rd is my surgical date. It has been a long road to travel. I wanted to have some surgical solutions about two years ago but before I could be scheduled I had a heart attack. Obviously lived but it delayed the ability to go under the knife. It was then I knew if I did not get sleeved my life would just progress further downhill. Well major move, change of careers, lifestyle and much more and now I am right there. On the edge of walking into the hospital. Had a few days of complete nervous breakdown, though visible to no one else I was second guessing myself. But today a peace has settled over me and I am go…

Hi there from Australia. I am booked to be banded on 18 Dec. Start 2 week Optifast pre op diet next week. I have been trawling the web for anything to do with the lap band. I want to share with you my two new lap band heroes that i love from you tube. First is bandedwendy - she is like the good angel that sits on your shoulder and yells like a drill sergeant into you ear about sticking to the lap band rules! The second is lizlovesherlapband. Liz is very real - and is Australian. Liz tells you what is really like living with a lapband. Her posts about the week post surgery have given me real confidence. Both of these women have been very successful and are real …

I'm happy with my three month results but I know I need to get refocused and I really really need an exercise plan. I'm so random with exercise. Does anyone have any advice!

I meant to post this yesterday which would have been 8 months by date but I ran out of time. Quick overview - I had lapband for about 6 years, and I believe it was slipped for about 3 of those. I had revision surgery in March of this year. After my revision I stalled. Hard. Starting about 3 weeks post-op, and lasting until right around 3 or 3.5 months. I also haven't anything but swap the same numbers for the last 3 weeks. I've always been prone to stalls, but I do wonder what my loss would look like had I been able to 'capitalize' fully on my first few months post-op. Lapband highest: 348 Lapband lowest: 238 (a little lower, but that was due to pregnancy, not t…

Hi everyone! I just had my surgery on 11/16. I am doing better everyday. I am having a hard time knowing if I am getting in enough clear liquids. I was told 3 protein shakes a day and have yet to drink more than a couple of ounces so I have to be behind the recommendation. I don't know how many ounces is considered in 1 protein shake and I don't want to over do it. This whole experience has been a whirlwind for me. I went in for my initial consult in the last week of September. I did all of my testing and they submitted to my insurance on Halloween. 4 days later they got approval, and 7 days after that I was having my surgery. I have been reading the books and informati…

I posted this to my facebook about 12 hours after my surgery so if it seems like a bit odd of a read that is why. Ok, so here is my story and I am sticking to it... When I decided to go on this journey, I had so many factor that I had to include. My biggest motivator will always be God, family, job, friends etc. you get the picture. I started on a lifestyle change in July 2011 because I was scaring my children with my health. I thought how selfish can I be to let myself get to a point where I was endangering my health with food. So with a lot of encourgement from God, David, Clayton, Dustin, Heather my church family and all of my many friends I began a workout regimen…

Before getting pregnant with my 1st daughter in 2003 I was at 155, curvy, and loving it!! I then gave birth in 2004, followed by the births of my 2nd daughter in 2005, and my 3rd daughter in 2006.. Soon after I went into a major depression while being a stay at home mom due to my failing marriage & abusive ex-husband.. & food was my escape.. I got all the way up to 256.. I'm happy to say that in late 2009 I left the abuser, & began on my journey to finding myself again!! 2012 has been a great year for me thus far: I finalized my divorce finally, and recently graduated from college in August!! Having this surgery approved will mean the world to me, & will…

Well I guess it's true what everone says about the third week! I've gained one pound over the last week and the scale hasn't moved since! I'm ok with that. I've lost 21 pounds and I'll be 4 weeks out on Saturday. Throughout my adult life I've lost 50-60 pounds and gained it all back 4 times. I don't eat unhealthy never eat fast food, only drink water, and mostly only cook at home. My problem was I had an enormous appetite! I could eat like a football player! I guess with this surgery I'm not expecting to lose all my weight overnight. Even though it sucks after all we've been through going through with a major surgery! Haha. I'm glad I've found the support from the peop…

I have a friend who has been thin her whole life. She is feeling really fat right now weighing 150 at 5'7" - 20-25# higher then her normal. So what shocked me in discussing this with her is that while she has never been obese, when she went through that weight gain, it was a very similiar story to what my everyday life was like pre-sleeve. 1. Start eating junky food 2. Get even hungrier then normal 3. Try like heck to "diet"; always failing and being drawn back to the junky/too much food 4. Feel bad at the failures so repeat cycle endlessly In her case, she gained "only" 20-25 pounds but she told me that over the 6-8 months it was happening she was just out o…

after being told I was denied almost 2 weeks ago because the insurance company had 2 very important pieces of my files that didnt go through the fax, sometimes when you fax more then 2 pieces of paper which i am sure there were at least 30 sheets to fax, the one about my TSH (thyroid test) and my support letter from my doctor didnt go through. so they denied me. well after much pushing on my part with the insurance and the clinic and all the paper work summited. and then having a Peer to peer doctor to doctor (insurance doctor and the surgeon) I WAS APPROVED YESTERDAY!!!! I am so so happy, and now a bundle of nerves and scared to death. please add me to the prayer …

Hi Gang, I am crawling ot of my skin waiting for my insurance Aetna Navigator PPO to PLEASE approve me for my surgery, I am suffering with major complications from my LapBand which I have had since 2010. Basically, the surgeon (who I fired) had punctured my tube on the last fill,April 2012- which ironically caused severe restriction due to my lower esophagus really messed up combined with my stomach which has "many ulcers and erosions" So, the plan is this- have everything done in one surgery which I am totally on board to do- I know the risks, and possible complications but this has to happen NOW. One of the reasons my surgeon is requesting this to be all i…

Hello to all, My journey is not complete. I am not here to tell you that I have figured it all out, or that it is easy. I have lost 87 lbs with the gastric sleeve surgery and diet. I lost the weight from January to July 2011. I have been at the same weight since July 2011. Once I began eating regular food, my will power left to use the sugar free diet that got me to my current weight of 200 lbs. I pretty much ate what I wanted, regular sugar; have gone through holiday's and birthday's and gained and lost only 1 or 2 lbs, I know that I will not regain the 87 lbs. I ate well according to the diet plan at first, then ate poorly slipping in the rich buttery foods that I lov…

Hello all, My name is Hanna. I am 21 years old. I have started looking into the Lap Band for the past few months. I just go new insurance and just started looking into surgeons! I have heard nothing but great things about the lap band. I have struggled with my weight for my entire life. I've tried every diet under the sun, personal trainers and everything in between. Nothing works! I have goals that I want to live for! I think the Lap Band is the thing I need.

Hello. My story begins way back when I was a young kid. I have always been overweight. And I was always made run of and looked down at because of my weight. When I was in high school I told this guy that I liked him and he looked at me and said "why would you think I would go out with you? You aren't skinny, your too fat". That really broke my heart and spirit. Until I met my now husband a few years later. We have been together for 11 years and ever since I was a senior. He loves me for me not for how I look. He's always telling me im beautiful. I have always had big breasts and its always been a burden on me emotionally and physically. So one day I met with my primary…

I had my surgery on October 18th 2012. Before my surgery I had lapband, It did not work I actually gained weight so I had it removed in August. When my Doctor performed my surgery he started out doing it Laproscopic, However he couldn't see so he had to go in zipper style, so they said it was as though I had 2 surgerys in one. After my surgery I stayed in ICU for 3 days, when I was moved to a room I was doing pretty well untill my white blood count was low, and they fixed that, gave me incilin every day although i'm not diabetic, (that was torture) next someone on my floor had the infection C-Diff, and then I got it. I was in isolation for 2 weeks in the hospital it …

Hello everyone, my name is Candace. I just had the gastric bypass surgery a week ago. Unfortunately, I had three surgeries until they got it right. My 2nd and 3rd surgeries were emergency ones and I had blodclots and an obstruction. I was a real live pin cushion for the lab technicians. I was in the hospital for a total of seven days and had to have four blood transfusions. Thank goodness after the third try my surgeon fixed the problem. Here I am one week postop waiting for all this water weight I gained (30lbs) to fall off. I am still in a lot of pain and had to take an additional two weeks off of work which has left me financially strapped. I just pray that in the long…
