Hello All, This is my first day after surgery and I have a lot of gas and I'm hungry! For some reason I am hungry and so far no matter how much water,Isopure, and broth I drink. Most of the people who were in my classes with me and have already had their surgery are not hungry. It figures that I'm so fat that even after surgery I'm still hungry. I thought I wouldn't get hungry, or at least not as much. It's constant or maybe I'm confusing it with some sort of weird pain I'm mistaking for hunger. I feel like I could eat normally, though I wouldn't dare try it! Is this normal and if so for how long? How long will I be in pain? Please help...

Hey has anyone had pseudotumor cerebri? And along with it had the lumbar/peritoneal shunt placement? Did you have any trouble getting the sleeve after that? Did they do the surgery anyhow? I have a LP shunt for pseudotumor cerebri and asked the doctor if there would be any problems about 2 days ago and he hasn't responded. . . i find that weird. . . maybe someone can answer this question for me. . .I sorta concerned now

At 11 years old I was living with my mother and step father. My father was no where to be found. My step dad worked nights from about 3pm to midnight, leaving my mom with their 4 year old and a newborn. My mother, diagnosed only a few years ago, is bipolar. Two young children and a husband away in the evenings was too much for her to bear. But, at 11, after spending much of my time caring for their first child, I was well equipped. There were diapers to be changed, and dinners to be made, and someone to watch the kids while my mother needed "alone time", pursued a variety of different careers to keep her occupied and out of the house, or disappeared for days on end when l…

Hello all! I have tried several diets and excercise all that have given me little to know success. I finally hit the highest weight that I have ever been and it was that moment that I realized I have to do something about it. So here is where I will begin my weight loss journey. I have had my initial consult, attended seminar had dietarty appt. Now I just have final wrap up appt and I will go over all of my blood test on that day also. I am very close to getting to surgery. Hi, I have been preparing for Gastric bypass surgery since Oct. 2011 (referral from family physician). From Feb. 2012 to April 2012, I met with many team member from the Bariatric Clinic at Toronto Western Hospital. In Sept. 2012, I met my surgeon Dr. Grantcharov. My surgery took place on Nov. 15th, 2012. I was supposed to have a Roux en Y but unforseen circumstances led the surgical team to plan B. I have a gastric sleeve. It all worked out in the end. I have a million and one questions because I wasn't really prepared for this new route. As every journey starts with one step, mine has a twist and a bend in the road but the view is incredible! J

Hello Everyone! I am 5 days post-op and feeling pretty good. However, I am getting a little nervous for Thanksgiving in a couple days! Does anyone have any advice for me on what to eat or not to eat? I am currently able to eat full liquids (i.e. pudding, applesauce, Protein shakes, etc.). I am hoping to be able to eat some foods that the rest of my family will be eating like mashed potatoes and really soft turkey. Am I dreaming about being ready for that? Advice is appreciated! Thanks!

I had surgery on Sept 24th. I can faithfully say that I have had complications since day one. I did loose 40 lbs yay me.. But I can only eat once a day. Problem is that I vomit so much acid reflex and all nutrition comes out. Today I had the chills and a bad fever. My medication was changed but can someone guide me as to what's going on? Or how to deal with this issue?

It is amazing how many times I have contacted United Healthcare just to find out exactly what I need to submit for a pre certification. I mean I have contacted them at least 10 * and finally today I got the answers I needed it's like heaven gates open for me. Thankfully all that is needed is a high BMI I have wonderful health insurance. Why in the H E double hockey sticks did it take so long for them to tell me that 1 simple sentence. I wasn't asking for them to perform the surgery I was asking a simple question and even then it took an hour and 5 different people before I finally got the answers that I was looking for. Thank God all that I have left to do is visit the nu…

HEY everyone, well, I went to my primary doctor yesterday and She gave me the "Okay" to proceed with my requirements I need for surgery. Here the problem. For some Reason the have found "PROTEIN" in my urine. This is the second time! I have to go back and see her on Tuesday to discuss medication. I'M a little worried because I Really don't understand what or Why this is happening. I have been diagnosed with diabetes. Could this be the cause of the protein? Is having this problem going to Keep me from getting my surgery? If not will the protein go away like my diabetes will? I'M lost, I know I will discuss it with my primary doc on Tuesday, but in the meantime, in-b…

Hi Everyone! So this morning I ran my first 5k! The turkey trot at my university I was so proud of myself for running it. I definitely almost bailed on it last night...luckily I have friends that wouldn't let that happen! When I crossed the finish line I just thought about the week before surgery when I went to the gym, got on the treadmill, and was unable to go more than 1/4 of a mile without wheezing and feeling like I was dying! lol Working out has become a part of my daily routine and it is by far my favorite part of the surgery. I used to not believe people when they said they loved working out. I was convinced they were lying and I kind of hated them for i…

On June 6, 2011 I found myself being wheeled upstairs to the emergency room at UNC Hospital in North Carolina. Quickly, the nurses were putting in more IV's after a V Q Scan had shown that I had a pulmonary embolism. They gave me Hepron and other blood thinning agents to make sure that I didn't die. As I laid there alone in the ER I had plenty of time to think. My life sucked. I had been fat pretty much my whole life. Been on every diet imaginable and then some. Lost and gain weight repeatedly. My knees were shot and needed to be replaced but no orthopeadic surgeon would touch me with a ten foot pole because I weighed 386lbs. and this was after I had lost down fro…

After a recent physical exam my PCP again suggested I consider WLS. A short time later I saw a Dr. Oz show titled the most under preformed surgery; it was the RNY gastric bypass. After doing some research I decided this is what I wanted. It was not an easy decision a friend’s wife died after this surgery. I wrote a letter to my PCP asking for a referral for the surgery. In the letter I included my failed attempts at weight loss. Multiple attempts with weight watchers, a medically supervised liquid diet followed up with a maintains plan, miles of walking, bike riding, and swimming, lifting tons of weights. Only to reach a new high in my weight after each failed attempt.…

Hello, everyone. My name is Nicole and I just found this forum website from a Google search. This is my first post, my introduction. I am 32 years old, I am a mom of three (12, 9, 7) and I am engaged to an amazing man. We live in Greensboro, NC. I had my RNY on July 30, 2007 and just this past week was the first I'd experienced any type of problems. I will get into that more here in a little bit. I had my RNY, as I stated above, in 2007, and I went into the surgery room weighing 257 lbs. My highest recorded weight was 315 lbs, and my lowest was 128 lbs. Right now I am hovering around 160 lbs. Since my RNY I have gone through a 12 year relationship/10 year marriage tha…

I am eleven months out - thinking I had conquered the "eating" thing yesterday - I stopped at a local fast food restaurant and ordered the chicken sandwich (plain) - got back to my desk and ate the meat part way too fast (I was preparing for a big event at work and semi stressed out by all the things that were left to be done) - within ten minutes I began to get dizzy - sweaty and began to vomit without stopping! Had to be driven home - did not make the event (thank you to all those who filled in for me). As I laid in bed still reeling from the experience - I chastised myself for abusing this tool that had given me my life back. I promised I will once again plan my m…

... describes how I have been feeling for the past few days. I was just sleeved on November 14th. I am still on Clear liquids and tomorrow I can start full liquids. I am just so depressed. I want real food. Constantly I smell and see food. I know everyone else is complaining about things like this but I felt like I needed to vent and get it off my chest by typing it up. I am afraid I will never be able to eat the food I was before again. I am not talking about the fatty food perse but more like all the healthy meals I was making for the 3 months that I had surgery. All I want is some cauliflower crust pizza or spinach dip bites... My husband keeps consoling me and tryin…

I posted here back in May when I made the decision to get banded. My insurance, Oxford, required 6 appointments with a nutritionist (not 6 months), but I only just got around to completing my appointments today. I would have been done and approved sooner, but I had got assigned to 2 trials, the latter of which is ending next month. My surgery date is now set for January 23rd! I'm both excited and terrified. I've wanted to stop this process so many times, but I know that I owe it to myself to be the best me I can be, inside and out...so onwards I go. Stats - May 2012 5' 11" - 341 lbs November 2012 5' 11" - 328.8 lbs I've made some good progress considering the …

Is there such a thing as too much too fast? I Started my pre op diet on Oct 12, 2012, my begin wieght was 337, yesterday was my 4 week post op mark, and I wieghed myself this morning and I am down to 278, if i am not mistaken thats 59lbs. Granted I was down to 309 the day of the surgery on Oct 22, 2012. but altogether it seems like its a lot of lbs to loose in a short amount of time. I beleave I will slow down as soon as I can start to eat better, but as it is now I am not holding down much, I can do a protien shake, it takes about an hour to get down, I can eat some soft foods like yogurt and apple sauce but only about three very small bites at a time, then i am done for…

... and it's becoming a serious problem! Before, I hated shopping. Nothing fit, and even when it did (somewhat), it didn't look good. After dropping a significant amount of weight, of course I needed to buy a few things, but there is a huge difference: when I shop now, everything fits. I don't need to go to a special store, any store will do. And no matter what I try on, it looks good. I was sleeved only 3.5 months ago, and I've already spent hundreds of dollars on new clothes. I love the "better" labels. One of these days, the salespeople at Macys will start calling me by my first name. I remember how I used to have to really search for clothes that half-way fit. I …

Hi everyone!! Love this app! I was sleeved on 11/7 so almost two weeks out. I'm on the puréed diet and was curious about protein. The thought of puréed meat sounds so unappealing. Did you all mainly get your protein from yogurt at this point or did you find other ways? And if so, do you mind sharing these tips with this newbie? Thanks for any help!!!
