Had my pre-operative checks done today. first the was blood tests with the best blood technician in the world. I literally didn't feel a thing. Then off to have a sonogram, no baby just kidneys and liver. blood pressure test yes still a little high but that will soon be a thing of the past. Then off to get a scope sent down my throat. I am so glad I opted to be knocked out for it. One second I got a numb throat next I'm waking up. So far no problems and my surgery date is still only a few days away till I joined the ranks of the sleeved. Then I came home to video chat with my parents to tell them I'm getting sleeved and they were quite supportive about it which is gr…

Actually I am not nervous about the procedure AT ALL! I have been researching the Sleeve for about 6 months and if I could have it done tomorrow I totally would! I understand that this is simply a tool and it is up to me to commit myself and make the right daily lifestyle changes in order to be successful. Also, I deal with surgery/pain pretty well so I'm not scared and I feel confident this is the right decision for me! What I am VERY nervous about and think about constantly is the approval process! I feel like I can almost see a light at the end of the tunnel (for ONCE), but am so scared I will be denied. My BMI is 37.8 and I suffer from high cholesterol, GERD, ur…

So I had my surgery on December 10th and am 4 days out. I am still slightly in the "what did I do" stage, but don't regret my decision at all. I'm not able to sleep comfortably so I am a bit irritable, any advice on how to get a good nights sleep? I can't sleep on my side yet, well actually I'm too nervous to. In any case, I'm still learning (of course) and have found that everyday something gets a bit easier than it was the day before, so if anyone has any advise on the first couple of weeks of recovery and what they're doing to maximize protein intake, I'd greatly appreciate it!!!

Can someone describe their experience from the time they arrived at the hospital to the time they left? I'm approved sorta....I am waiting to see a new surgeon because I'm switching from getting a bypass to a sleeve and reality is setting in and I'm starting to freak. I've never been "put under".

I haven't posted in a while, since my initial introduction last month. Since then, I've attended an informational meeting, had my first consult with the surgeon, completed my initial appointment with my nutritionist, and had my first of two meetings with the psychologist. Everything's gone swimmingly, thus far. Doc said we should check me for sleep apnea, so I will be seeing a pulmonologist next week, who will then (hopefully!) refer me for a sleep study. I have two weeks off from work starting next Thursday, so the timing is perfect. Since my reflux issues are not very severe (mostly when I eat spicy foods, or a LOT of food at once - as I did last weekend's "Lord of the …

Hi everyone! I was banded 5/25/09. I did really well the first year with no fills. I lost about 50 lbs...since then I was not all that dedicated. between deployments and being a single mom for a year and life just happening, I gained some back. I went in last week for a fill and finally feel like I'm back on track! My doctor suggested support groups, but I figured I would try this too and so far I'm loving all of the support on here! I'm also on my fitness pal if anyone would care to add me. I'm flinty35 on there.

Okay so want to try the lap band but im scared, I've heard it all and talked to two different people who it hasn't worked for. Im 18 and about to graduate and go off to college, i want to go off to college like a new start. I have little motivation to exercise but i do eat healthy i just cant drop the weight. Also im on my parents insurance still and i dont want them to have a huge bill. Right now i weigh anywhere between 250- 275 because my weight fluctuates so much, and im 5'9. So is the lap band right for me or not? * THE PHOTO BELOW IS ME.

I am now 16 days post op. I feel amazing. I haven't felt this great for at least eight years. I have so much energy. I don't snore anymore, so I am getting better sleep. No need for a pad in my panties anymore, I can cough and sneeze all I want. No more depression, no more constant coughing. Just amazing. I have made Cookies galore for Christmas, and I do not feel one ounce of temptation or "I wish I could eat one". I feel liberated that I can make them, enjoy giving them to people and know I am not going to gain any weight this year from Christmas. It feels great. I remember going in the hospital that morning and wondering if I was doing the correct thing. As the Nu…

Has anyone looked into http://www.mybariatric.net/pages/clothing_swap.html "The Clothing Swap is a way for members of the community to share clothing between sizes. As you drop clothing sizes and need a new wardrobe for your next sizes down this community has the facilities set up to arrange for clothing to be donated by other members of the group. Naturally this may not always be a swap between members and may be more of a one way donation but it is our hope that the members of our forums share what they no longer need with other members who do need the items."

How long is the amount of time from when you have your first appointment til the surgery day?
-
I am in the beginning stages of getting the lap band. To let you know how early in the phase I have my class next week then the next day I will see my Dr. to start lab work. It has taken me two years to get to this point cause of fear. I'm still a little afraid but I'm ready now. I just happened to stumble on this site! Can anyone tell me how long is the estimated recovery time, how long in the hospital and how soon can I return to work. I know these are questions I can ask at the class but I am eager to know. I am a single parent of 3 but I have not discussed my decision with them yet because I want to be able to answer all of their questions.

I was sleeved Tuesday, early am and home Weds. evening. I was able to take in and keep all the required liquids and protein. I have some spasming of the tummy with bubbly gas and incision tenderness and that's it! I am in shock! I figured that at my age (with predicted slow and difficult recovery) I would be in the hospital longer. This was the easiest surgery I have ever had. Now my weight loss begins.,with a great big :-D

3 months ago this was not part of my plans. I was dealing with obesity but was working it with a therapist for the past 5-6 months, and i was getting very depressed bc i was not going nowhere with therapy or with my diet. One day, my girfriend said she was going to Mexico to have the VSG done and i said me too. Crazy i know, but im the type of person who either acts right away or stays paralyzed for ever. I went to mexico to have surgery since it was self-pay. Did my reserach. I wanted to be at a hospital in case of an emergency. I was expecting the worse pain for what i had read around. To my surprice my surgery, to this day, has gone great. No pain. Only discomfor…

Hello everyone, My name is Tom. I am 33 years old. I started the sleeve journey weighing in at 326 pounds. A month later my preop weight was 305. I got sleeved 11/28 in the afternoon. In addition to the sleeve my surgeon also fixed my hiatal hernia. I have sleep apnea so I stayed at the hospital over night. The pain at the sleeve site isn't that bad. But the pain at the repaired hernia site has been uncomfortable. I do have roxicet for the pain and that has helped. I also notice a moderate level of neasea so I got a medicine for that also. I have been sipping liquids and walking aroud my whole house. The walking helps most. Well just found this site and decided to intro…

This is my first visit to this website. It was recommended to me by my friend Freda Coleman. She has gone through the process and she is helping me as I begin the journey into weight loss. I started this year weighing 346lbs. As of today, I weigh 297lbs. Yes I was successful in losing weight independently, but I feel that I am at a standstill and I need assistance in reaching my goal. My family history is of many in in African-American community, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, stroke and heart conditions. Not that I want to live with these ailments, but I dislike needles. I have watched for many years my mother and grandmother inject themselves with insulin to…

I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op. I am down 36 or 37 pounds. My boyfriend said that he can really notice a difference in my face, but I haven't noticed anything myself. I haven't left my apartment since surgery & have limited my wardrobe to pajama or yoga pants. Today I decided to venture out because my puppy ran out of treats last night. I decided to make myself presentable for the general public. That's when I got not 1 but 3 surprises. Surprise #1 my jeans were loose at the waste! I had to roll them at the waist once so they wouldn't fall down. Surprise #2 I put on my shoes & THEY were loose! I didn't realize that my feet had gotten fat too! I got to my car & t…

Had a bad time at my 4 week post-op visit today. First, had a really rough time getting my protien in on the pureed phase of the diet. Just didn't do well. Ended up gaining 3 lbs. and my ankles are swelling. Now, I don't know if that's because of the lack of protien recently or the fact that my lovely time of the month is due to start any day now. I'm thinking it's the second. Still, pretty depressed because I not only stalled, but gained. Going to try to supplement with the protien shakes on the next phase and see if that helps some. This is so much harder than I expected. I did so much better on the liquid phase of the post-op diet.

I'm so calm, cool as cucumber but my tummy is rumbling! If you guys only knew what it has taken to get to this point.....you would to be asking why isn't she jumping & shouting! I honestly think doing the research, preparing, jumping through hoops kind of took on all the fears, anxieties and questions away. Now just to get past the waiting and through the pain and back to living a better life! Today is VSG date.

I had surgery on Nov 13th 2012 and i have had pain at the port site and not healing right, wanting to split open. I went to the Doctor yesterday and the nurse pulled the suture out!!! She told me my body was rejecting the suture. Let me tell you that hurt like hell!! She had me sit on my hands so i wouldn't grab her when she pulled it out. It was a 3in long piece of what looked like fishing line!! Was wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

Today I am 2 weeks post op...and I'm down 10.2#! (29.9 from highest weight this fall) Even better- I've lost 15" in that time!! I walk about 1-1 /2 hrs daily, and I guess it is helping! :-) The first week was pretty rough. I hurt (duh), but the liquid lortab made my stomach hurt. I had a hard time with all po intake...my stomach would spasm, and it HURT. Nothing tasted good, either...the blended cream of potato soup helped, though! I bought the Unjury Protein'd Cheese powder...and it rocks! :-) I blended up a can of chicken breast, and that tasted SO good! So did Taco Bell refried beans (yesterday) with red sauce!! Lentils did NOT sit well...BIG mistake!! I…
