I'm not sure if maybe I'm the only one but when I swallow my food I feel it going down and it kinda hurts! Does that get better? And something I feel the mash potatoes get stuck in my esophagus and I feel that I am about to choke!!! I'm very nervous still about this BC it doesn't look like I can ever enjoy another meal in my life!!! Pls tell me this gets a little better!!! I'm praying it does!!

Hi, I'm Stacey. I had my procedure done on Wednesday, 12/19. I am having trouble getting enough fluids in. I try to sip on my water, but things like Crystal Light just taste too sweet. And I don't like broth. What should I do?

I am a 49 year old man that was recently sleeved at Chesapeake General hospital in Virginia on 12/17/12. The surgeon was Robert Chastanet. Everything went well during the surgery. Hospital, surgeon and nurses were all first rate. I am very happy that I got it done here. I am 6 days after surgery and still on a liquid diet. Still feeling a little pain when coughing or bending over. But overall it is working out great. I look forward to the forum and losing weight. Tim

Ok I started my diet right after Thanksgiving. I was 310lbs. My sleeve surgery was 12/10/12. I have been following the program getting my vitamins down and more than the 80 grams of protein and 64oz water recommended by my doctor. Today I weighed 274lbs with minimal exersize (30 min walks) and wanting toward soft foods early. I have zero appetite but I force myself to consume the needed nourishment. I have no pain at all and im full of energy most of the day... im ready to get after the chiseled body I know I will have. Just playing the waiting game now. I was scared of the things happening to people, but I guess I havebeen blessed. Very thankful for everything yhat has h…

My name us Dawn and I am a 45 year old female 10 days post op . I had surgery December 13th at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Prior to surgery I was 2 weeks on a liver shrunk diet.In my case I am allergic to whey and soy so I cannot really consume protein drinks, though I have found egg white protein that helps. In all I have lost 30 pounds 4 ounces. which includes a gain of 3.4 pounds as of this morning, which was pretty depressing. These first days have been pretty tough with moderate pain that is easy to control with the doctor's help- just do not forget your stool softener or lots of water to prevent constipation. Eating has been difficult in tha…

Hello all! I just joined after I spent the last hour reading through some of the posts and thought how great is this site!? I am scheduled to be "sleeved" on Feb 6th. My weight today is 220, and my surgeon Dr Majid is putting me on a 2 week pre op liquid diet. I am wondering what have most of you told people about your decision for surgery? It is a personal decision, did you share it? I have told a few people - and think I have a great support system. Surprisingly a close friend was not so supportive, her response was you don't need that, you just need to eat better. Really?

Everything was going great after my VSG on August 6th. I had minimal pain andI followed all the rules to a T and then two weeks later I developed a fever and felt sick so I called the surgeon. After listening to my symptoms they immediately sent me to the hospital where my leak was confirmed after a cat scan . Things only got worse from there. My lung collapsed and Fluid collected around my lungs and spleen . I has so many tubes coming out of me it was ridiculous. The chest tube was the worst. I was put on TPN and had a picc line installed. The TPN caused me to have high blood pressure and gall bladder sludge. When the stent was first installed in my esophagus it was bloc…

Hi there! I'm brand new to this whole thing, and wanted to join this site for support and conversation through my journey. I have looked into surgery twice before but didn't have insurance coverage, and am now looking into it again since I have a fantastic employer with wonderful benefits. I have met with a surgeon and medically qualify, and am now jumping through the hoops to apply for authorization. I'd love to chat with people and hear about everyone's paths to surgery and after surgery, and am so excited to join this site!

My name is Jess, I'm 26 years old, mother of two. I've recently been looking into getting consulted for the lapband surgery. I've been overweight nearly my entire life. I'm 5'3'' and my highest weight was 245lbs in 2007. I stayed at that weight for at least 2 years before attempting to lose it. I managed to get down to 180 by July 2010 - That's the smallest I had been in a very long time. I got pregnant with my youngest child and went back up to 240. I worked out again for months and got down to the low 190s ..but I've been bouncing between 195-210 for the past few months even with diet and exercise. My husbands insurance kicked in at Ford and they say the lap band…

Hi Everyone! I'm Julie. I'm 48 years old, mom of 3, married 25 years and my last kiddies moved out of the house last August to go to college. I said when that happened, when we became "empty nesters," that would be "me" time. I was 163 lbs when I got married and on surgery date weighed 277 lbs. As of this morning I'm 260.1 (tomorrow will be one week post-op). I'm a little nervous that I am losing too fast but I'm not really hungry and I am drinking protine shakes and I find that a 1/4 cup of split pea soup can hold me over for hours and make me feel full and satasfied! Lots of people know that I am dieting but only by darling hubby knows that I had the surgery. At …

I had lapband surgery on March 13, 2012. I was so excited and got along great until June. On June 6 I had to have my lapband removed due to an esophageal yeast infection. It took three rounds of antifungal to get rid of it. Is there anyone who has experienced this?

This is my first post. Today is 2 months since the surgery. I'm 6 foot 5 and my highest weight was 455. I lost a hundred pounds by myself 3 years ago and gained 60 of it back due to stress from a promotion. I weighed 394 the day of surgery. Today I'm 332, 62lbs lost in 2 months and very happy! Still a long way to go. I'm glad to have a forum with such great positive people.

Good morning, Just wondering if I have done things wrong in trying to get approved. I first saw my primary care doctor, she did an EKG, is writing my referral to the surgeon, I have an appointment with him 1/15/13, my insurance covers it, I have almost a year with Jenny Craig, I have three other documented issues other than the weight. Any advise? Thanks Sissy

Hi everyone, I am glad I found this site.I had my surgery August 25, 2010. I have done very well with the lap band surgery. I have 5 cc's in my band and I am 20 pounds away from my goal weight. I haven't had a fill in my band since May 7th, 2012. Lately I am having problems with vomiting. I have read through other forums and I have seen where some have suggested that the band may be to tight, taking to big of a bite etc. I take my small bites and even the smallest amounts have been bothering me. I can tell you even fluids sometimes bother me. I am afraid with all of the vomiting I have been doing has made my band slip or something. I am open to any and all suggestions t…

I am almost exactly 10 weeks out from getting my sleeve. I can handle a lot of solid foods now which I am so thankful for. However I can only manage to get in about 500 to 600 calories a day. Should I be concerned about this? It is mostly Protein that I'm eatting. I never did drink any Protein shakes as they always made me sick however until recently I was drinking Isopure however I just moved and can't find it in San Diego. Anyways mostly wondering about what a normal calorie intake should look like for me and I can't get in to see my new doc until late January. Thanks

After five years of yo-yo dieting and many failed attempts at getting healthy, I decided to fly to Mexico to get the sleeve done. I am from Canada, and the waiting list is almost 2 years. Also, I am "just" very obese and not morbidly, and had no other pre-existing health conditions, which push me to the back of the line when it comes to surgery. My surgery date was November 21st, 2012 of this year and my surgery was performed by Dr. Almanza. I have made a video that tells my story, but am having trouble uploading it-boooo! Please feel free to add me as a friend, or follow my progress at Tijuana, etc. Cheers!

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself, I just joined this community and found out about this sleeve surgery after hours of midnight contemplations of what to do with my weight. I am a mother of 4, I have been stuck at 225lbs for the past 6 months and am working out but nothing seems to be helping right now. I am wondering if I would be a good candidate for this surgery. IS there anyone here that recommends a DR from ON?(Canada). I am 5'8 225lbs was 170 before baby #4(he is 17 months now) Been watching alot of youtube success stories and reading your community boards, sounds like this surgery is a GREAT IDEA.. Just scared if I will have any problems becuase my stomach w…

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I was wondering am I the only one that doesn't have a goal weight? I don't necessarily want to be skinny I just want to be healthy. I've been overweight my whole life so any weight I lose I will be grateful for. I think when I get physically, mentally, and emotionally comfortable in my own skin I think I will be happy. For the people that do set goal weights, does it make the weight loss more like a challenge? Was there a reason you choose that goal weight? Just curious. TIA

Had the sleeve 2yrs ago, I lost 65lbs which of course wasn't enough. Went for a revision to bypass Nov 8, 2012... 4 days later was rushed in ambulance for another emergency surgery due to an obstruction, so my Dr redid whole surgery again on Nov 13th.... then a week later I got pneumonia ... so yea its been a traumatic experience but all things happen for a reason. It definitely showed me how i really took my health for granted ... im still learning my body, how I have to eat & drink slow. What foods I can eat. Ill be 5 wks out tomorrow from my second surgery ... any tips on just how to live and eat during this time?? Im still real sore, mainly by left incision ....…
