I am new here and am looking forward to having people help thru my new journey. I haven't had the surgery yet but am looking to have the RNY gastric bypass. I only have one more test to do and they will submit it to my insurance for approval. I am getting excited but also nervous. I have been tossing this back and forth for over a year to have the surgery. I have done lots of research and following the forums and realized this is what I really want. I didn't become heavy until my early 30's and have continued to gain weight since. I have tried numerous diets and lost a few pounds and always gain it back plus some. Looking forward to becoming healthier and smaller.…

I am starting my 2-week liquid diet this Friday 12/21/12, and have RNY on 01/04/13!! I live in NE Arkansas, and will be having surgery about 2hours away in Little Rock with Dr. Mark Gibbs. I am 5'3" and at 250 as of now. I am super excited about this life change, and so grateful my TriCare covers me! I'm not really worried about the surgery itself, I've had a tough hysterectomy and gall bladder removed so I figure this surgery cant be much worse than those. I am mostly scared that I will be losing my best friend, aka Food! I eat for comfort, out of boredom, for fun, emotionally, for everything! So I'm worried I won't be good at dealing with the "head hunger" everyon…

So here it comes the holiday eating and drinking - What is your honest goal for this time of year? Mine is simple - Don't gain - maintain - I plan to do this by eating one cookie - not five or six - keep Protein Bars within reach - enjoy the time without stressing - I am aware of what I eat and I can maintain. and you?

So tomorrow is my big day! And I'm so nervous I can barely sit still. Im excited about my new life but then I'm scared it won't work or that I will regret having the surgery... I'm nervous about the pain???? I'm nervous about how long I will be laid up??? And not extremely important questions but just curious. 1st: how long did most of u have to wait to have sex? I mean comfortablely. 2ndly: My most favorite drink is Malibu and pineapple. Will I never get to drink it again? Or alcohol for that matter? Kind feel Iike I'm going in this blind....

My god I am some happy to find a app for this! A little bit about myself. I am only just starting my journey! Been on the wait list for the last 14 months and just got the call to start the process. I have my orientation for jan3! They tell me I will be done within the year of orientation. I'm guessing 6-8 months I should be gone by the way they are progressing. I am type 2 diabetic. Plus high cholesterol. I've always battled with weight. I lose 30-40 lbs but it always seems to find me. After thinking really hard I know this is the best decision for me! ( and my kids). My family are so so on the supportive side. They keep saying to me " you can ga…

Hi all. I just recently got banded this past Tuesday. It happened in Dallas,Tx and I couldn't be happier with the doctor, staff & process so far.. However day 4 now and I'm trying to get back to normal somewhat. Each morning I feel nauseous so far but haven't thrown up. I am keeping my liquids down but still am feeling hungry and not too restricted. I'm quite frazzled by this and don't want to be discouraged. Starting my pre-op diet 11/20 I was 363lbs. 12/4 I weighed in at 339 before surgery. I am excited to continue this journey. But I want to make sure what I'm feeling is normal or any other suggestions.

Well I am about 4.5 months post surgery and have lost an astonishing 125lbs! I did however experience my first stall last month when I went THREE weeks without losing a single ounce! I knew it would happen sooner or later but after almost four months of steadily losing approx. 5lbs a week it was a stark reality check. I find that even this soon after the surgery it is easy to let diligence slide and slip back into naughty habits. I have since reminded myself what unholy hell the entire process was to get here and that serves as effective motivation to keep my protien up and my fat/carbds down. Luckily I have had very little temptation with some of my trigger foods (s…

I'm a former lap bander (successful). Now 2 yrs w/out my band I'v gained 120+ . I was feeling like sht and started going to drs because of aches in joints and no energy, breathless, yadda yadda. So in sept My dr suggested bariatric surgery to me again. I was really surprised that he did...to me that meant, you need it! So I ran with it...because I guess i needed someone to give me that push ( I was afraid to do such an invasive surgery). So that's alittle history of me. In September I decided to have the surgery, saw my surgeon. I already had all of my tests done just because I was feeling so crappy. So December 5th I signed my consent and Monday 12/17 it was approved..YA…

Anyone else have major glitches lately? RYN talk app worked flawlessly for several months, but the last 2 weeks have been full of glitches for me. Sometimes it will not let me respond at all to posts. My reply button seems to just freeze. Other times it will only let me respond if I flip the screen a couple of times and hit enter before I hit reply. Just wondering if anyone else was having these issues? Hoping I can hit enter now to post! (I've already flipped screen a couple of times...) Send bottom is frozen... Waiting to post.

Hi my name is Janel I had my gastric sleeve surgery 12/10/12 and am struggling with my protein intake because I keep gagging every time I try to drink it. I have horrible head hunger I don't think anyone or thing could have prepared me for this struggle, I am hoping it gets easier. As far as the surgery went everything was fine recovery was a breeze minimal pain, I do not have any regret but much doubt in myself. I am trying to remain positive but it seems like everyday is a month and I won't be able to eat solid foods forever. On the plus I have lost 17 pounds in the past 9 days ( that includes the 3 days before surgery). If anyone has any support or even similar stories…

I'm very happy and blessed to have this done and behind me. I researched this for 2 years. Now I'm 5 days out and can't believe how fast the weight has melted off. Wed 12-12-12 I was 342. Last night I was 318. That is 24 pounds in a matter of days... Crazy and a little scarry. Anyone else have that happen? Only negatives so far is that I have a serious cold that has made me cough alot which has been painful. Also, I had my first Protein yesterday and came home and had the runs. But I drank a concnetrated protein shot since we had a long drive home and that may have caused it. I'm really tired and trying to figure out how in the world I'm going to eat 60 gram…

I started my journey 12/12 at 245 pounds... now I'm 6 days post op and already at 236... It wasn't as bad as I thought and I am walking down my street and back... It does tire me out but I am getting thru it. I have grown up in a house where everything revolves around food so I have to learn to make better decisions... Atkins was the only diet I ever was successful with so I will do great with the low carb eating. Looking forward to share more success with all... the support is really helping me. Thanks to all

Hi, back to my fav. lap band site. Banded 2/15/11. I am a 50 year old female. 6' tall and 320 (Oh say it wasn't so - but it was) at my highest. My port is located above my left breast and is hidden by bra strap. (my doctor perfers this location - and it seems to work just great and is covered by most bathing suits) I include this info in case anyone wants to ask me questions about my unique port site. I am a self-pay who took advantage of a $10,000 package available here in Middle Georgia (now $12,000 ). I include this for those of you who are considering self-pay. As I said, I was banded Feb 15, 2011 and lost 60 lbs within 6 months. My journey has been a…

I was really trying to hit a 50 lb. goal by my 3 month mark, but I made it 4 days later! It's been an awesome experience for me, and I will never regret taking charge of my health. I was on a pretty heavy dose of medication for my blood pressure (80/25 Micardis HCT), and now I'm just taking one 25 mg HCTZ (Water pill) a day and keeping my blood pressure well under control. I have started water aerobics 3 times a week (fun, fun, fun!!), and I really find myself getting out there more and more...making new friends and enjoying life.

Hey guys. I haven't posted much but I have been ghosting. During my journey to actually getting my surgery (4 months so far!) I've been reading all of the posts on here and they've all really helped me get by. But today I kinda got bummed out. I've been working with the NJBC for the surgery and what I was told was that after I fill all the requirements for them and make 4 visits with them (one each month) I'd be able to schedule the surgery. My last requirement was met last Tuesday, and my last visit was the following Thursday. I was told that my navigator would call me with my scheduled surgery and she did. She called me about a half hour ago and told me that she j…

Hi everyone, I am in the early stages of this process. I am 45 years old and have been fat most of my life. Lost and gained and lost and gained. I have my first major series of appointments on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve ; social worker, nutritionist, Bari nurse, etc. I already qualify medically bc of my BMI, sleep apnea and HBP. I can't wait to have this surgery, and I appreciate all of the posts I have read so far.

Good evening I am d76jp67 and I am looking forward to my surgery. I am having mine on 12.23.10 I know it is crazy doing this right before Christmas but I don't care the pain in my knees is worse than not being able to eat Christmas dinner. I have arthritis in my right knee and have had the left knee replaced. I don't want to replace the right one so losing weight is my only alternative. I hope the support here will be helpful once I have my surgery.

I am having surgery tomorrow and have been excited up till today. Now I am soooo scared! I am mostly scared of being the "exception" and not losing weight. I am 4'9, 219. Lost just 5 pounds on the pre-op diet ( but it was just 5days long) so weighted 224 last Thursday and I feel as if I should be weighing less. Overall I am so ready for this weight to come off. I am way too short for this!

Hello! I am 37 years old from Wisconsin and a mother of three amazing children. I was banded on Dec. 7 and am really excited that I have found this group. I ended up having a ton of swelling and had to stay in the hospital day 2-4 post op. I couldn't even keep down a sip of water. But now I feel great, just hungry and ready for the next phase in the diet progression. I am physically doing very well, I have not been on any pain med's since day 4 when I came home from the hospital. Mentally I am still working on wrapping my head around how the next few weeks are going to go. With the holidays coming up and all the food and drinks being around I am going to have to stay stro…

Hi y'all! I'm FLmama...I have 2 babies (3 and an infant) and am a SAHM. I am going to my required information session on Wednesday! I have PCOS and have struggled with my weight my entire adult life (once I started having PCOS symptoms). I've been researching various weight loss surgeries for several years and our new insurance covers it starting 1/1, so now is the time! I've been on Atkins for about 6 months (the only thing that works for my PCOS is carb restriction), but I am looking forward to getting rid of the fats it requires. I've only lost 10 lbs in that time (of course my hubby dropped all of his spare weight like it was nothing!). I'm 5'4" and 265. My …

Today I started my journey. I had my first visit with the bariatric program at the hospital in which I work at, and was unexpectedly delighted to learn about the "sleeve" procedure. I still have at least six months to go before I even speak with a surgeon, but in time that will come. Currently, I am weighing in at 255. The most I have ever been. But I couldn't tell you the last time I weighed under 200 lbs. I have had the ups and downs, sort of successes and definite failures, but as I am getting older the fears of my health are setting in and being obese just doesn't help. I tried going through this about ten years ago, but wasn't quite mentally ready. This time I'm…

I wish I had this ap when I first had surgery. It would have been great to get his kind of support! I am 5 years out and SO so happy! When I went in for my gastric bypass I was a solid 300 lbs. I've never been so happy. It's all the little things are so great. Like wearing belts and tucking your shirt into your pants. Being physically picked up. Riding in airplanes or roller coasters! Shopping! Sharing clothes with friends! Jumping up and down. Going to the gym and not feeling li…
