My surgeon was Dr. James Foote of Grand Health Partners in Grand Rapids, MI. My surgery was done at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids. Both the surgery and the hospital were absolutely top notch. I would recommend them to anyone in or near the western Michigan area.

Now that we have "come out of the closet", we over 60 year old sleevers, I see lots of success stories for our age group. I feel I am a success and hope we can all be a collective inspiration for others our age to live life to the fullest.

Well, it's been almost 2 months since I last made a comment here. I was doing great until I hit solids. Everything I eat hits the upper part of my sleeve and plays "elevator full of water with a cork on top"...floating up and down, throat to tiny tummy and back again. This starts about an hour after I finish eating (I have no feeling of fullness- I just quit eating after a small amount) and lasts for another hour or so. Just about time to eat again. I'm having a hard time getting my water in because my tummy doesn't settle down enough to drink very much. I was so looking forward to eating solids but it has been a real challenge. I chew and chew - even got an egg timer to remind me to take time between bites. Soda crackers and protein drinks are the only things that go down gently. Nothing hurts, just a very full feeling that travels up and down. I had breezed through the whole process until now. Man, I thought I would be the exception to all the rules. But sleeve has fun with all of us...now it's my turn. Lost 44lbs so I will cope :-)

I learned from 2oz. rare Prime Rib. Holy S**t, I was in pain and sick as a dog for 2 days. The sleeve sure knows how to say, "Stop that or I will kill you next time!!!".

Sleeved 12/11. 10lbs preop, 22lbs since surgery. Not bad for a 67 year old grandma :-)

I was up and around while I was in the hospital. St.Mary's has an amazing atrium floor and I walked it several times a day. I was released a day early because I could keep down all that they asked of me and my incisions were only a bit tender. I have history with stomach and intestinal problems so any gas, etc. pain seemed much less for me. I went shopping two days later, three days later I visited a critically ill relative in a large hospital, and felt really good. My surgery was uncomplicated, incisions are neat and beautifully healed and I would do it over in a heartbeat.

you will not regret your decision to go with Dr Foote and GHP. When do you plan to have surgery?

If you are anywhere near Grand Rapids (they have patients from all over Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.) This is a great bariatric practice with superior surgeons. I HIGHLY recommend it. I had Dr. Foote who is very skilled. I had no complications, feel great and have lost 31 lbs in 6 weeks. I am 67 years old.

I had sleeve surgery on Dec.11. 2012 a little over a month ago. I am 67 years old and have had 2 nausea moments, a lot of burping after eating, and serious sense of fullness after a few bites of (now) pureed meats. That's it... No complications that I so feared. Including my pre op, I have lost 31lbs. I don't know if I am a slow loser or not at my age. I am losing and I feel good. If you are "older", please don't be afraid. There are people of all ages with complications and as many or more without. Life is risk. If you are thinking about this, you are at risk. Be prepared, read everything about this surgery then make the best decision for you. Don't reject it because of age.
