I went to an introductory seminar at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs in Feb and to a consultation with the surgeon early in Mar. I've got my appointments scheduled, started my 1500 calorie diet. The surgeon said my insurance has approved the surgery; he said I can expect to have the surgery in August. Quote Edit

I originally was going in for a consult for gastric bypass, after meeting with the surgeon he recommended that the lapband would be a better choice for me. I had never heard of a lapband. After being told how less invasive this surgery was & the results would be terrific for me, I decided to do this. I was a self pay since my insurance wouldn't cover this type of procedure. So I took out a loan to pay this. I was banded in 2008 starting weight 213. My first 2 weeks I lost 8 pds easily. When I had my first visit I was given a fill. Within 3 months I was able to get down to 185. I was so excited. I went every month for a fill. Each time I told my Dr that I didn't feel a…

It's been 1 month. "Drumroll please" I'm down 24 pounds. I'm happy with that number but I'm disappointed in my self because the first couple of weeks I didn't stay on track. If I did I probably would of lost more weight. I'm happy though. It's a rocky road for me. I'm still not totally adjusted to this new life and relationship with food.

Wow what a journey. 3/13/17 I will be 1 month post op with my bypass. Been on purée diet since day 3. I haven't been able to handle anything but yogurt, Popsicle, pudding, coffee and tea up until 3 days ago and now I am able to do cream of wheat and soups.. 2 more weeks of purée and then off to soft foods.. I have absolutely no regrets. I have lost 40 pounds since pre op diet..

Hello Everyone! I am new to this forum, although I have been reading everyone's very informative and inspirational posts for many months now! As my gastric sleeve journey is about to take off, I thought I should finally introduce myself to the group as I hope to post here throughout my journey... About me... I am what you would consider a gastric sleeve 'lightweight', although I have never thought of myself as "light" in the past 10 years! I am 5'2" female and 210 lbs, making my BMI 38.2. I am a self-pay patient as my BMI is "too low" (under 40) for insurance coverage. I am "pre-diabetic", have borderline high blood pressure, and ahve a strong family prevalence of…

I don't really have many friends here but I have wonderful support from my family and boyfriend. It would be nice to have someone going through this as well though so anyone else having the surgery looking for friendly support, reach out to me!

Hi All, I just got sleeved on Monday along with a hiatal hernia repair. I'm in much less pain than I thought I would be so I'm very hopeful this recovery will be fast! I lost 19lbs on my two week low carb pre op diet so I plan to continue that way of eating once I'm on solids again. I started at 367, was 348 on surgery day and want to get down to less than 20% body fat, whatever that scale number will be. Any tips on what I should start to do to be active when the time comes? I was thinking just walking to start with but your suggestions are welcome! Thanks [emoji4]

Help! I am eating badly and every time I get back on track I last a few days and then I'm doing it again. Am I doomed to gain my weight back. I'm down 100 lbs from my sleeve surgery. My surgeon told me at one year I could have a duodenum switch has anyone done that? Should I even do it if I'm not focused on changing? Grrr I wish I had the answers.

I'm new to the group and just had my surgery March 7th. I have been on a waiting list for at least 5 years. It took me 1 whole year to apply after the doctor gave me the papers. I was so scared. I got the call to start the liquid diet. The day of my surgery I thought I would be stressed seeing as I wasn't really ready for the Surgery when I aplied as well as its a life changing operation. Surprisingly I was crazy calm. I don't understand it. I get anxiety from time to time so I thought I would need someone to hold my hand through it. I guess I was truly ready to change my life. Pre-op I lost 15 pounds and to date (9 Days post) I have lost 27.8 pounds. It's so exciting.…

I had my surgery on Feb 6th. Other than Serious nausea no complications. I had my surgery with a specialist in Arlington, TX. He didn't see me at my two week check in/follow up. Instead I got the PA or Nurse Practitioner (not sure) who is fairly negative. I had the band to sleeve revision and he feels the need to tell me that most B to S patients don't do as well as other patients. I have been following the guidelines for diet and vitamins but am having trouble getting to 64 grams of protein w/o drinking protein shakes. Weight is dropping (at 197 from 232 pre surgery) but I am tired, cranky and way too weepy for my own good. I am walking daily and have been doi…

My surgery was on February 22nd. I started the process in August 2016, from that point to today I have lost a total of 46lbs. Since surgery I have lost about 20lbs and a lot of inches all over. I have had a wonderful experience so far. I drink 2 protein shakes a day (30mg each of protein) and have a protein bar for snack during the day. I usually only eat about 3 to 4 bites of my husbands dinner and I am done. I do see some results, I know it's a hard process and it is going to take time. As well as everyone's journey is different.

Hey! My name is Jennifer and I started my journey over a year ago. I was supposed to have the surgery in June but I didn't get to have it done then. I changed programs to Foothills Weight Loss Center with Dr. Colquitt in Knoxville, TN and I'm so glad I did. I had my surgery March 8 and I just had my one week post-op visit. I lost six pounds in six days. My surgery went seamlessly, so I'm blessed. I'm excited for the rest of this journey to unfold. I am 30 years old and a public school teacher. I went through a divorce in November of 2015 and that made up my mind to have this done. I have been ready for the hard work and to help build my confidence…

My weight loss journey started in 2010 when I weighed 386 pounds. I became stagnant and didn't lose any weight for several years after I lost the initial 100 pounds. I got the sleeve in June of 2016 and it saved my life. Learning how to eat again has been fiffucult. Learning how to eat around my food addiction has been especially difficult. But im happier than I've ever been and I'm going to run a 5k next month!

Yesterday marked my second week since I had the RnY GBP procedure. I still can't answer why I am always hungry but the liquid protein snacks do help calm the hunger pain. 10 pounds lost in 2 weeks which isn't much but its ok with me as I am dropping which is all that counts. I do confess I feel like an old fart in a nursing home since I have to have a liquid/pureed diet and can't chew my food. No other things to report really but thought I would finally share and contribute. After waiting about 3 years jumping through all these hoops and medical tests I am through the storm and dropping weight and becoming a healthier me.

Ok so I had my gastric sleeve surgery January 23rd of this year. A week later I was in the hospital because my heart rate was elevated. They thought it was because of the pain. A few days later I started having pain in my left pelvic area, went to the ER and had 2 have emergency surgery 2 remove my left ovary, it had become horses and it was hemmoraghing. So I came home days later and my heart rate shot back up and I felt some pain in my stomach on the right side, so again I go 2 tha ER an found out I had pancreatitis. So again I had 2 have emergency surgery 2 remove my gallbladder. Once I came home this time we noticed that my heart rate was still high even with me resti…

How did you finally decide to go for it? Each time I felt the urge to shed the extra 100-150 lbs, I would check into bariatric surgery. I would talk to friends and family. I would sometimes go to the initial consultation with the surgeon and even to the psychologist to discuss the options. Each time I walked away from those conversations with doubt and fear. If I would just exercise, it would be easy to lose weight. If I would just eat healthier foods, it would be easy to lose weight. The years passed, and the weight increased. I joined a lousy gym, and didn't go because I had no one to care for my children long enough to spare me the time. Then, I joined a great gym,…

Hey everybody!!! I am so excited I got approved for surgery and scheduled for March 22nd! This is all happening so fast and I really thought I would be able to count on my family for support but is seems like no one is really being that supportive. I told my brother and he asked me if I was sure that I wanted to do it....After a year and a half long process of getting my insurance requirements and other issues that have come up...YES I am sure! My mom also when I told her she replied that she has been loosing weight by cutting out meat and that I should try to do that before I do it lol. She was very adamant about me doing the sleeve and I chose the bypass which I think s…

Hi all, I've been on the gastric sleeve forum for a few months but now I am coming over here because today I had my EGD and my dr. Said that I may have GERD. He took a biopsy and I will have the results some time this week. If they come back positive I will likely need to change my procedure to the bypass because of the high risk of heartburn associated with the sleeve. I've never really considered the bypass before so now I am all types of nervous. My main fears are dumping syndrome and losing too much weight and looking sick. I have about 100lbs to lose. I've heard that bypass patients can lose a lot and and some times too much. Can anyone offer any insight into these …

I was a low BMI when I was sleeved in August 2016. I was 180 pre op and 172 on the day of surgery. I am now at 132. Went from a very tight 12 to a comfortable 4-6. No post op problems with the exception of constipation requiring Miralax and watching intake. I am 65 years old and love being able to sit comfortably in an airline seat. get on my hands and knees without groaning and no more breathing heavy when climbing stairs. I can feel my ribs and love having a waistline. My motivation was to prevent lose of mobility and becoming dependent upon my husband to take care of me. I highly recommend this to anybody who has the means either with insurance or out of poc…

Here's a pictures from one year apart. I started my journey in January 2016 at 420 pounds. I only had one 6xl that shirt that fit me. My stomach was almost to my knees and was hard to walk. I had so many health problems pcos, thyroid, Autoimmunedisease, RA, pseudotumor and high blood pressure. I knew I had to change my weight. It was the cause of all my health problems. I decide to look into weightloss surgery for help with my weighloss. My insurance required me to do a 6 month supervised diet. I lost almost 80 pounds before surgery. Wasn't sleeved till July 2016. Since surgery I've drop over 70 pounds. I now weigh 273 pounds. This as been a amazing tool to help me o…

11 Months out and I caught myself. Down 90 lbs now. And 11 months ago, I was very skeptical that I could actually loose that much weight. I have been ecstatic with my progress but find my thoughts creeping towards dissatisfaction with the loose skin and the fact that I am a size 14 but maybe I should set a goal to be a size 6 or 8. I have had to stop myself and put things in perspective and realize how far I've come. It is a mind game now. A balancing act between being in a comfortable sustainable place where I have a healthy relationship with food and my body, and disregard external influences that are not in line with what is best for me. I did this for me. To b…
