I have had a terribly dry throat since the surgery, which leaves a tickle in my throat, and the coughing is AWFUL! I had an upper scope done 4 days before my sleeve surgery and my throat was already irritated from the tube going down my throat during that procedure. Having a tube back in my mouth during my WLS surgery didn't help either. Has anyone had an itchy throat with major pain from coughing? It feels like my big incision is ripping open every time I barely cough. I've been going away from the fruit flavored Protein drinks for now bc they irritate my throat. When does the pain from the incisions go away? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

#Speechless. Please read: I remember vividly waking up March 11th and being so nervous, questioning if I should go through the surgery... Dozens of fears about the unknown surfaced. I shook it off and told myself that I could do it! I carried two babies full term, so this was nothing! Now that I am 9 months out, I feel AMAZING! While I input my weigh-in for this week, I was blown away to read that I'm OVERWEIGHT and not OBESE! My BMI is almost at my target goal, I am 25LBS AWAY from my goal weight... I can just cry right now! I'm becoming a normal, healthy person and that is so valuable to me. The time I have invested in this for me has definitely been worth it! This is …

March 1st is the beginning of a new journey for me. Well actually Feb. 15 because I'll be going on a 2 week liquid diet. I'm only require 1 week. Question: I have Tricare Standard. Those of you who have Tricare, how much did you have to pay on the day of pre-admission? I called the hospital to see what the cost was going to be but they told me they won't know anything until 24-48 hours before surgery. I called insurance and they said if my deductible is met all I'll have to pay is the hospital stay. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

After a long self imposed stall, my scale moved this week. I'm down 118 pounds and weigh 205 as of my 66th birthday on Monday . It dawned on me today that my late mother weighed 118 pounds for most of her life. Then my manicurist shared that is what she weighs. It really has hit me that I have lost an entire person. Awe inspiring! I'll let you know when I make it to Onederland. It shouldn't take too much longer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wondering if anyone had sleeve surgery following another major surgery. I was scheduled for the sleeve in February but had to have a hysterectomy due to a suspicious fibroid which thank god ended up not being cancer. My sleeve was rescheduled and it will be 8 weeks between surgeries. I know its going to be hard but I'm ready for this. Just wanted to know if anyone else who had close surgeries could ease my fear a little.

The moment when you decided that you would have WLS? My moment was when my doctor told me my BP was no longer being controlled by meds and he wanted to hospitalize me. He told me that if I didn't lose weight my heart would give out. I left there and cried because I realized that it was a very real possibility that i would not live to see my youngest graduate high school. Now I plan to be around for grandkids! Well, 3 months + 1 week I can feel the beginning of carb/sweets cravings. I've gotta get this in check asap. So I decided to cut and paste my "before" and "now" pics side by side. I may need to tape this to my fridge. Unlike many, I've felt hunger, real hunger from very early on. I seemed to heal quickly and have had absolutely zero intolerances. I'm quickly finding out that I like sweet stuff way too much. Thought I had more control than this. No regrets, but no illusions either, this is going to be work for the rest of my life, sigh. For now I'll take solace in each little victory. I've been telling my husband I don't think I look all that different, but the side …

I may have mentioned it somewhere here before, not too sure, but some years ago I was pursuing a degree in diet and nutrition. Fast forward to now, I am the one who needs reminding about it. My husband calmly told me yesterday "you can't keep talking about how you used to be, you are here now." So, I have decided as part of my journey to a better health, to pursue the studies again. Whether I go to a college or just take some online courses, I'm going to dive right back in. Number one, staying focused on it and being somewhat passionate about health and nutrition (it's always been there-just ignored it for 8 years) I know I will be successful in achieving weight loss. And…

I am now on day 3 and I can't lie, it's been rough. The pain of my incisions isn't that bad but I will for sure gets sharp pains at my incision sites if I move too quickly or cough. The worst part is the gas and, I assume, the fake hunger pains . I've been walking a lot and that definitely helps. I threw up within the first 12 hours after surgery but haven't thrown up since. But dang am I nauseous! I have always had bad anxiety so I'm pretty sure that's making me more nauseous and uncomfortable. Any tips to help with gas pains and also sleeping more comfortably? Also my back pain is very bad, I'm not sure if it's because of gas or because I'm not confortable. It worries me also cause I can't lay in bed or sleep properly... Good morning. Well I guess I will start by introducing myself. My name is Minnie and I'm from Ga. I had my surgery on 1/4/17. It was in Gainesville, Fl with Dr. Jeffery Friedman. I must say my hospital experience in Gainesville was great . My husband and I were treated great by the whole hospital staff. The one fear I had was that I would be up there having to beg for pain medicine but that didn't happen. My Dr. made sure I was comfortable. They said my surgery went fine. First night, I was in so much pain and I was so sick to my stomach. The nurse kept saying it was normal to feel the way I was feeling but I was so sick and I could not stop dry heaving and that was hurti…

I had my Gastric Sleeve Surgery on 12/19/2016 i am currently 4 weeks post-op. When i woke up in recovery i had burning heartburn that lasted 5 days. I was unable to get Fluid into me. I kept telling my surgeon and his team how i was feeling. They released me after 2 nights knowing i was not getting the fluids in that i needed. To make matters worse, i had 2 hematoma's from the surgery which caused me to become anemic. I did not know any of this. After my release i was very dizzy and went to my surgeons office the next day. I saw the nurse practitioner. I explained how i was feeling and she instructed me to "just keep sipping all day long". A week later i saw my surgeon wh…

Hi all, I've had a visit with my surgeon and I'm trying to decide if I should stay on phentermine until I get my approval for surgery. (I still need 5 more monthly visits). Personally, I'm paranoid of gaining weight since I'm afraid if I do I won't be approved. Also, I'd like to try and lose as much weight as I can prior to surgery (even if it's 10 pounds). Realistically my surgery won't be until February 2017 at the earliest. Any thoughts or recommendations? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

There is nothing I can't eat, but (usually) my choices are not so healthy now but my portion sizes are far, far smaller. Today: Breakfast: Protein snakes, coffe with 2 sugars and 2 creams. AM Snack: 2 Bananas all try to eat them. Lunch: just home left over like a peace of chicken breast with veggies, I have about 6 oz of lunch, so it will take me the rest of the afternoon to eat it all, but I am going to the club tonight for an intense workout, so I need the calories. Usually, I would have an apple, orange and prunes. When I get home from the club, I will probably have a cesar salad. I'll finish the night with a small bowl of ice cream or some crackers and cheese…

Hi I'm new to the site and in need of support! I got my band March 23, 2016, I started out at 243 pds. - went on the sugar busters (required) diet and lost like 5 pounds. I got my surgery and I still struggle to lose weight! I have lost a whooping total of 15 pounds and I feel like I should be down more. I do count calories (for the most part) and I walk daily at least 30 mins a day. I can say I have recently increased my water intake and that helps me feel fuller longer. But Im wondering if this is normal? I know they say slower is better but I didn't think it would be this slow. Any advice! I will listen, for sure!
