Getting through the first night after surgery pretty well, albeit sleepless. Both encouraged and concerned about all the threads I am reading. But I have all my Unjury proteins lined up at home and will focus on protein and water intake only. Got my hopes high and my fingers crossed. Time to eat to live and not the other way around for once!

I have my referral from my doctor and have a seminar on the 14th of May. Then time to meet the bariatric surgeon. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. I hope everything goes well and my journey will continue and change my life..

My son is in the hospital this week...since Sunday. This was totally unexpected. I've been spending the better part of 12 - 14 hours a day at the hospital with him. Being nearly 3 months post-op, I can eat dense Proteins and such. I thought it might be difficult to find things to eat at the hospital especially since most of the time the main cafeterias are closed by the time I want to eat. Luckily, I've found plenty of pre-packaged sandwiches and salads. For instance tonight I purchased a turkey and jack cheese sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes on a pretzel roll. I deconstruct the sandwich...lose the bread. Take the lettuce leaves to use as a wrap...roll up th…

Wish it was more but hoping by next year I have had reached my goal. I look way better then last year that's for sure. Keep your head up and you can do it!!! If your scared it will be for a lil while but the benefits are worth it!

Tomorrow morning is surgery. The hesitation has struck. I have read many posts about the depression and regret that some have had, and it has made me pause. I know that I cannot keep weight off with out a crutch to keep me in check. That which does not kill me will make me stronger. Please let me know I am not alone. Please share your feelings the night before surgery.

Yesterday the scale read 299. The old me wanted to go Celebrate by eating something fatty and bad. How stupid. The new me went out to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls instead. Today I went on a long hike I would never been able to make 4 months ago. I only made it halfway to chimney rock but going to try again the end of the summer. I know I have posted this in a couple places so if it is a repost I apologize. I am just so thankful how things are going I want to shout it from rooftops. Am I bragging? ok Maybe a little but more importantly I want to say lap band can and does work. If I continue to lose it will be because I let my band help me and I helped my ban…

Hi! I'm considering getting a gastric sleeve. I went to a weight loss seminar about two weeks ago and it sounded awesome. Right now my BMI is 48. I've been overweight my whole life (I'm 26 now) and have never been able to lose weight and keep it off. My weight has yoyo-ed continuously through the past 4 years and I just want to get to a healthy weight and stay there. I live in Hampton Roads and am looking to get my surgery from Mr. Clark at the Center for Weight Loss Success. They have a great program and Dr. Clark is an expert bariatric surgeon. I have a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Clark on June 5th. I have a bunch of questions written down. I really want to mak…

  21. Hi! Today is my first day on this site. Here's my quick story. At age 50, at the highest weight I've ever been of 252lbs., having gained 10lbs. for each of the last 3 years, and after doing every type of weight loss program available, I decided to have surgery. I have Anthem Blue Cross PPP (for whatever good it did me) I was forced to use a doctor that worked through a hospital that was at a "Center for Excellence". There was only one doctor within 50 miles (sounds like an HMO doesn't it), and that doctor charged an additional $3,000.00 out of pocket. I found another "COE" about 100 miles away that was awesome. My surgery was performed by Dr. Mary Estahkry at Valley…

My surgery is scheduled for Thursday. I'm excited but very nervous. How many of you gained weight in the anticipation of surgery? I have gained 10 pound upon my decision. I am more disgusted with myself now than I was when I finally admitted I needed help. I told my family tonight about my decision. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. But of course I'm blessed with all good wishes. I will continue to come back to this site for encouragement as I begin my journey.

My story starts many years ago. I originally wanted the lap band. I went to a well known doctor in Southern California (who I won't name). After months of visits, money paid, labs done, more money paid, and a surgery date set. I got a call from the doctor's office that there was a problem with my heart test and the surgery would be cancelled. This particular doctor's office was very proud to report that they have had no fatalities. After that, I got a call from my insurance company that I was not approved, even though the doctor's office said that I had been. The doctor's office wanted nothing to do with my case, since I could have damaged their record. It took a lot of a…

  28. Hello everyone! My name is Kaila and I am brand new to this forum (actually any forum) and I am definitely looking for some help with this journey. I will start a little about myself. I grew up the majority of my life in New Hampshire, am currently a proud army wife and mom of an almost 3 year old boy. I work as an office assistant and also as a home sales consultant with Seacret. I've spent the majority of my life taking care of others that it wasn't hard to forget about myself, leading to my unhealthy diet and with stress and anxiety, an addiction to food. After moving to Colorado I gained a lot more weight in a short period of time because trying to breathe in this…

My question is, I've lost 38 lbs since surgery and I feel like that is so slow compared to what I hear from everyone else. Ya I know not to compare myself, but honestly I worry that I'm doing something wrong. I'm scared because of having the band failure. Has anyone else had slow weight loss? I'm so worried!!

I received my diet yesterday from my nutritionist. I have to say after reading several blogs, my restrictions aren't that bad. I have to be on this diet for the next two weeks. Surgery is May 23rd!!! The diet consists of 4 protein shakes per day. I am also able to have 6-8 servings of the following: 3 Oz chicken or Fish, 2 Egg whites, 1/2 cup of sugar-free Jello, yogurt, chicken broth or 1 cup of vegetables (Carrots, Lettuce, Celery). I was really nervous about just having protein shakes. I am on my way and very excited to start my "New Life". It will be a very hard road, but manageable and well worth it!! Good luck to all of the May banders!!!

Hey everyone! I'm Kelly and I'm SO excited to be here! I'll share my backstory: I have been heavy set most of my life. Back in 2000 I lost 80 pounds by starving myself... needless to say that didn't last long, I gained all that weight back plus some. I got to my top weight in December 2006 of 310 and started Weight Watchers, got to my goal of 155 in May 2008... life had never been better. I enjoyed being at my goal weight SO much, honestly the feeling of being there is just so amazing that it's not describable. I kept the weight off (except 20 that I played back and forth with) until the spring of 2011. I'd been dealing with IF for a couple years and we had the chance …

I would love to sugar coat everything and tell you that my journey so far has been wonderful, but I’ve decided to just be honest because after all it IS my journey. First of all I woke up from surgery! So yay that was wonderful, but then I am told that they are taking me to ICU because my oxygen level was very low and they were worried about that with my sleep apnea, ok, no biggie. I'm going to my first seminar on May 14, then after that I can make a appointment to see the surgeon. I have a question that maybe (hopefully) you guys can help me answer...
