Hello everyone :) My name is Kaila and I am currently living in Fountain, CO but I am originally from New Hampshire. My husband is stationed at Fort Carson and that is where I had my surgery. I had my surgery on April 23, 2013. I had 2 months of prep before hand, including nutrition, wellness, and a psychological evaluation. My surgery was covered by Tricare because of my health issues that went along with being overweight. I was prediabetic, hypertensive, and had high cholesterol. My first day post surgery was the most miserable I had ever been in my life. I was in so much pain and even with morphine it didn't go away. I was woken up many times for vitals and with visitors I didn't get any of the rest I needed. By the next day after my upper GI to check for leaks I was able to switch from morphine to liquid Percocet and they attempted to have me drink, which I failed miserably. By day 3 I forced myself to get my fluids down so that I did not have to stay another night, but I don't think I was 100% ready to come home. The 2 weeks after that while I was home I was able to slowly move around more, drink more, and "eat" more, but overall I wasn't where I needed to be. I wasn't able to drink from the severe nausea so they gave me a nausea med, which helped greatly. I am currently 1 month out and feeling like a different person than a month ago. I am able to move around, breathe much better, and have more energy than I did before surgery. My doctor said the 1st month you regret doing the surgery. By month 3 you are ok with it and by month 6 it was the best thing you ever did. I can say I am looking forward to 3 months because there are still days I hate what I did and days I love it. No matter what it's all about moving forward!
