I went to my surgeon at the end of April and he informed me that I was going to need to jump through some hoops for insurance purposes. I made all of my appt and today was the first day of my supervised diet. My dr gave me a weekly food sheet so I can write down everything I consume. For my first month she wants me to try to cut down on the amount of iced tea and soda that I consume which I feel is going to be hard but for the end result I am willing to do it. So today so far I have drank a half of a coke zero. Yuck! I have also drank almost 2100 milliliters of water. I wasn't expecting to have to start this so soon. Are there any diet sodas that anyone can recommend tha…

Hello everyone, I have been creeping on this site for over a month now and have gained a lot of knowledge. I have met my surgeon, I have my psych eval this week. I have also seen my PCP once for my 6 month requirement for my band placement, so I am looking at a fall banding. I am excited yet very nervous about this new adventure. Many of you have already answered a lot of my questions as well as mentored me so far and I greatly appreciate that!!! I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life. I have to admit, I feel like there is no such tool that could possibly help me loose 100 lbs. I have seen so many of you on here that have, however I just can never imagi…

I am having surgery in a week (5/14). I will be on a two week liquid diet. Basically, anything I can drink through a straw. I am thinking chicken broth, protein shakes & soups. Any suggestions on what to have on hand? I know it's gonna be rough the first few weeks but I want several options so I don't get tired of the same stuff. Thanks!

Well I had got the lap band 10/24/10. My biggest weight was 285 pounds. I lost weight throughout having my bad but at a very slow process. Throughout the years I regret getting the lap band. This year in March I was diagnosed with diabetes and my hypertension returned. My doctor and I decided to remove the band and go for a the sleeve. April 30, 2013 I was 202.8 lbs when I had my procedure done. It's now been six days and I just had my post op appointment. Since the surgery this is no sign of the diabetes and I am now 194 lbs. I'm happy with my choice so far. The recovery is so much better than getting the band. This is a long journey to a healthier new life and a new me.…

Hi Everyone: Just started with the group today. I will be having the sleeve on 5/16/13. I have started the pre-op diet - it's really hard especially when your having lunch at work or fixing your family's meals. But, I'm hanging in. I try not to count the days, so I keep thinking that surgery will be soon. I am so looking forward to that day. I know that it will not be easy and there will be many hurdles to overcome but with a positive attitude and positive support - I will do fine. Starting weight was 235#. Current weight is 225#. My goal is 130 to 140. My height is 65 inches. My BMI was 37 - it's not as drastic as some but I have so many comorbities that surg…

So, first time posting. I was sleeved march 21 2013, a little over 5 weeks ago. Pre-op weight was 368, today 296. In a little over 5 freakin weeks! Down 72 freakin pounds! Still have 100 to go. Now, it has not been pleasant at all, I had problems with a leak and stenosis and sticture had to have that surgically repaired, so I spent another 4 days in the hospital. I struggle to get enough Water and oh how I crave water! I have 6 kids and a loving wife with a scathing sense of humor as seen in the picture I took of the shirt she wore while chilling with me at the bariatric surgery center for a few days. So after much ado, I have started a new job and received my new insurance cards!!! 100% coverage for this! I am ecstatic. I have waited over two years for this! I am ready! I have my initial surgeon appointment on May 9th so I expect that things will fall into place after that. I have already done a 6 month supervised diet-optifast-yuck! So hopefully that won't hold anything up! Super super ready to get this show on the road. I finally broke down and bought some summer clothes realizing I probably shouldn't try to squeeze into last years. So again, a size 22 wide went into my cart. Uggh. I felt awful but then realized that it will be the last summer I will EVER EVER …

I was sleeved back in September and it all went textbook perfect. I had zero issues with recovery and was not in any pain or anything. I was getting used to eating small amounts but did struggle to figure out how much was enough. At first i was worried that i was eating too little, then confused because the amounts i could get in were not at all consistent. Today marks my first week of being sleeved. It has been a roller coaster ride but I can see light at the end of the tunnel - and, finally, it doesn't feel as if the light is coming from a train heading towards me :-) What has made the difference is this site and all of you. With every new issue that has arisen, I have come here and found answers to my questions because you have taken the time to share your experiences. From nausea to sleeping positions, I have found reassurance, advice and, most important, learned that we all experience this life changing event differently. But we are all on the same road. And that helps big time. I may be doing this my way but I fe…

I received my lapband on Friday the 13th in November 2009. Dr. Henderson was my doctor at the time, but he soon left and Dr. Kent took over. I lost 35 pounds right at first from being on a liquid diet 2 weeks before and 1 week after. I lost a few more pounds after that but no more. I fluctuated up a few and down a few for the next three years. I began having probems eating and keeping it down after the first few weeks. Sometimes I would have no problems, but for the most part, anytime I would eat a meal I would have to run to the bathroom. This went on for the duration and got worse as time went by. I had to have my lapband removed in January 2013 because it had …

This has been an amazing journey so far. I can now do things I could never do before. Like yesterday I took my 5 year old to the park and was able to go down slides with her and run around and was able to swing on a swing without it hurting my hips. It feels so good! I've had a lot of ups and downs though. I've had some very negative people in my life tell me I need to quit losing weight even thought I am still 30 to 40 pounds away from my goal weight, I've also had people tell me I look sickly which really hurt my feelings. I think people are just not use to seeing me this thin I guess. I have lost the weight pretty fast...but to me that's because of hard work a dedicati…

Hello all! My sleeve surgery date is scheduled for May 22nd and I must say, normally I am a very strong individual but I am very anxious and a little nervous to have a second surgery. At this point, whether I failed the band or the band failed me is irrelevant; it's coming out and I'll be elated when I am not up all night coughing anymore. I've read many forum posts and am very optimistic about my success. I know weight loss surgery is a tool to help me attain and continue a healthy lifestyle. I look forward to conversing with all of you.

So I had surgery December 18 2012. I wish I had done it sooner! I've never been happier or more energetic! In the beginning: 190lbs (185 pre-surgery) Size 14 (tight) Blood pressure 155/125 Now: 152lbs Size 6-8 Blood pressure 130/80 I've lost 38 lbs and only have 27 more to go! The best part there is the blood pressure! I celebrated like crazy at the dr when I weighed in and even crazier when she told me my BP! There is hope I won't die young! I don't have much problems with sagging skin as I'm only 25. In fact - my stretch marks on my stomach have all but disappeared after using the scar treatment for my scars on my stretch marks as well. Just a little about me I'm a 36 year old mother of 5 and currently live in Utah. I've had the lap band but due to complications had it taken out and gained my weight back and more within 6 months. Hello! I was just banded a week ago, January 6th. I'm a 38 yr old single mom living in Michigan with my two children. I was originally supposed to have Gastric Bypass surgery 18 months ago, but I backed out at the last minute. It just felt too extreme to me. I knew I had to do something, and LapBand seemed like the best choice. On a side note, I also have Multiple Sclerosis. That was a big part of my decision to get banded. Granted right now I am totally mobile, and to look at me you'd never guess I have MS. However with a disease like MS my future is uncertain. I could go another 20-30 years still doing as well I am now, or I could end up in a wheelchair a…
