I just had surgery yesterday morning, I'm honestly feeling pretty well. My Doctor, Michael Choi, has been great in explaining what to expect but also warned me about how its different for everyone. Day 2 of my surgery, I am still on liquid diet, which I thought was going to be a lot harder to handle, although I am counting the hours were I can move on to adding some consistency and curious to see how my body handles that. I am experiencing some pain from the gas, mostly in the shoulder and back area. I was prescribed Percocet but I'm not sure if I should be taking it for this kind of pain, I mean, its helped somewhat but I don't think its meant for that, is it? Well,…

Hi friends, I am having a terrible time with the liquid diet! I am on SF Jello, crystal light, protein shakes, and broth. But, I have been cheating with low fat turkey and cheese in the evening because I feel like I can't function.... It seems strange to be worried about a little turkey considering how my eating habits were I have lost 15 lbs and feel great how worried should I be?

Yesterday I decided to go shopping. I have bought a few things that fit me but you can count them on one hand. I brought home a bag full, things were on sale and a good price. I hate to try on in store so I bring it home. Usually most of it goes back. I bought all XL. I wore a 24 5 months ago and can not remember when I ever and I mean ever wore an XL. I tried them all on and they all fit wonderfully. I couldn't believe how little I looked. Then I did the unthinkable. I took everything that was in my cupboard and folded it up for the thrift store. Today I took it there. All my big clothes are gone. I have hardly anything in my closet clothes wise but I …

My surgery was pushed back to 11am when my surgeon had an emergency case push my time back. I finally went in around1pm. They had me all ready with some relaxing meds, numbed my arm and put in the IV. I remember talking to the wonderful 2 anesthesiologists who knew I was there by myself. They were so kind....they told me that they would take very good care of me and that they had adopted me as family. And nothing would happen to their family! Just a very warm feeling and much appreciated! Prior to going back to surgery they took my cpap and belongings and locked them up. Next thing I remember I am awake in my room and a security officer is delivering my belongings. I was …

Hi. I'm new to this site. It took me six months of diligence, but I finally got approval from my insurance company for my sleeve surgery. I had it on April 17th. I'm feeling remarkably well on Day 3 post surgery, much better than I had mentally prepared myself for (from past experience with C-section, tubal ligation, hysterectomy and two knee surgeries). At 7 am today (65 hours after surgery) I walked my dog around the block and had no set-backs from it. Later, I took a car ride (first real outing) to shop and came home very weary, but still ok!and, 3 days post surgery, I've already lost 10 lbs. That's what really impressed me! My motivation to have this procedur…

I have been through the ringer at this point. Found out I have a heart issue, but after extensive tests I have been cleared to be banded. I am a male, 6' 435 lbs currently. I am 37 years old. Other than weight and complications such as back pain and energy levels being low, I am healthy. No high blood pressure, not diabetic, nothing except the heart issue that will need to be dealt with in another 10 years. Any ways, I am excited about being banded but nervous. I have heard succes stories and horror stories, so I have my mind made up that this journey is up to me. The surgery center will be calling me in the next couple days to schedule and give me the pre op diet instruc…

I've been overweight since I hit puberty. I've tried diet after diet to no avail. In 2009 I decided to try surgery. I was told my insurance covered it, so I started the process. After tests and appointments they came back and said it was NOT a covered benefit. I was devastated. Not only that, but I had racked up some hefty medical bills. I continued trying to lose on my own, only to let myself down each time. Things began to change in the fall of 2011. My boyfriend and his sister were both sleeved in October of that year. Seeing their weight loss, I was motivated to try weight watchers again. I did, and lost about 30 lbs. I was the happiest I had been in a very long time.…

Pre banding, I lost 24#s and after surgery in Nov. 2011, I lost 28#s but I have regained 15#s much to my dismay. I hit a plateau after July of last year (2012) and I have felt weight gain since the holidays. I must admit that I have not always followed the basics, including exercise. I know how important it is to get your adequate water and protein. I was told once that I may not be getting enough calories. I use to skip meals routinely and I am trying to do better. I rarely have hunger pains so I know that I am getting sufficient protein. Only one month did I feel that I was in the green zone when I lost 9#s of fat even though I had water gain. In my last visits fo…

Hi, I had my surgery 6 months ago and have lost 70 lbs and am just about 10 lbs off of my goal weight. However, I have suffered with excrutiating pains behind my shoulder blades, and after discussions with my surgeon, had an ultra sound scan and have just found out that I have gall stones and will need to have my gall bladder removed! Does anyone know if this is related to the gastric sleeve surgery? And are there any repercussions for not having a gall bladder? Looking forward to your responses.

I've gained three pounds in the last week or so! I'm six weeks post op. my starting weight was 200 and now I'm 178. I eat about 500-800 calories a day, the majority of which is protein. I fall short on my fluids - I get around 45 ounces a day. I've also started exercising almost daily over the last couple of weeks. What else can I do? I'm so very frustrated to have had this huge life-altering surgery and to see the scale moving in the wrong direction... I'm trying not to focus solely on the numbers but seeing them move up is really scaring me. Open to all feedback!!

He'll everyone, I was banded yesterday and Praise God everything went well. I had to have hernia repair done also, but EVERYTHING WENT GREAT! I will be honest and say that I had the worst gas pain ever after I was awaken. I just didn't expect that, but I've been takin pain Meds and I'm MUCH better. The gas is from the air that's pumped into your abdomen during the surgery. It's not your normal gas...trust me it's not.... NOW, remember we are all different everything doesn't affect us all the same. I had my procedure about 15 hrs ago and I'm soooo much better. Pray, take your med, include gas-x and walk. I'm moving forward and very excited.... Sistercin

Well, after years of saying I didn't want to have the bypass here I am 4 days post op. About 5 years ago my partner had surgery and has maintained over 200lb loss. Multiple spinal injuries later and I made my decision. So far so good. It was weird that I felt better in the hospital than at home. Surgery performed by Dr. Fuzz at Wake Forest Baptist one of the nicest doctors I've ever known. Waiting to hear more details about a liver biopsy but all in all a good start.

So I began my lap band surgery June 25, 2012, almost a year ago. After the first 3 weeks or so I went back to old habits, eating the way I did before, drinking while eating, not measuring my food, breaking all of the rules. I was 17 when I got my surgery and two months later went off to college and it just got worse, the all you can eat cafeteria really got me, I stopped working out, over ate at every meal, ate unhealthy foods all the time. It was so bad that it got to the point where I even forgot I had the lap band. I no longer get discomfort from over eating or diarrhea. I'm almost positive I have stretched out my pouch. & I want to restart my journey. I want to su…

So I've hit a milestone, I guess. I was "released" to enter the last phase of the post op diet. Phase III Adaptive (Soft) Phase...yippee right?! WRONG!!! My problem or let's say frustration is that after 3 weeks I only lost 5lbs and now you want me to eat more solid food? I think not. I understand a loss is a loss is a loss. However, after losing 19lbs the week before surgery (I know was a lot of water weight) and 9lbs the week following surgery to only 5lbs in the last 3 weeks, it's hard not being disappointed. I actually cried after the nurse left the room. Thought my days of crying over my weight were behind me, I guess I was wrong. My surgeon is happy with my progress…

All my life I have had low confidence due to my weight & have tried every diet possible . Each time on my diets I have success and loose much but after a few months the fat comes back. I feel so restricted and unhealthy every day. Just longing to get on with life and to be slim and fit! I have health insurance but have to wait until 2 nd October 2013 to be covered for sleeve operation . A bit of a wait yet but fingers crossed time will fly . I feel happy …

Hello all - Wanted to give you all a LONG OVERDUE shout-out and update on my progress. I began my journey at 285 (recorded weight 1 week prior to pre-op diet). I was sleeved on 11/13/12. This morning I weighed 215 pounds. I have lost 70 POUNDS in FIVE months. I can hardly believe it, even as I am writing this. I went from a size 22/24 to a size 16. Regular stores size 16, not the avenue or lane bryant size 16 which hang on me like a tent. My BMI has gone down 12 entire points. I eat on average 600-800 calories per day. This is way up from the 300-400 I was only able to eat for the first 3 months or so. For the past month I finally started to follow my …

Hello every1 my name is Marisa and I had my surgery on April 9th. Tomorrow will be 7 days post-op. I did great with my surgery minimal pain. My problem is the protein shakes. I HATE them!!! I've tried several different ones and I hate them all. I'm lactose intolerant so the milky consistency is not helping. I'm drinking the lite Muscle Milk that doesn't contain any milk but even though that 1 is the best one Ive tried. I still hate it. I can't wait to eat Tuna. Any suggestions am I the only one that has this issue?

Good afternoon! I must admit I have been stalking this website for quite a while. There is so much wonderful information here. Let me introduce myself. I am Angi. I am married to a wonderful man, who is very supportive. We have 3 children and 3 grandchildren, well, 5 grandchildren if I count the 2 four-legged furry ones. :-0 I began my sleeve journey when I attended a seminar in January. My surgeon is Dr. Westmoreland in Murfreesboro, TN. I really like him and his staff. I have met all my requirements and my surgery date is May 17th! I can't wait for that date. However, it makes me very nervous, too! I am like most of you, as I have read on here, I have always struggl…

I am a year out on my sleeve. This whole time I have been having problems with hair loss like most weight loss surgery patients, but my mom had seen a commercial for this shampoo from garnier and told me about it. It is call fall fight. I have been using it for about a month now and i can tell a big difference. It has biotin in it and you massage it into your scalp, my comb does not have as much hair in it as before. I have been wanting to share this so others can check it out. Hope this is helpful to everyone.

Hi Lap band talk community! I am a new member here. I was banded on December 7th and everything was going well until on the 14th March I was one of 21 people who ate scrambled eggs that had been contaminated by salmonella. I got sick - horribly sick, and aside from not being able to eat anything, the lining of my stomach would have been damaged. When I started to get better (thank God), it was like I wasn't banded. I could eat anything and any quantity - it took a lot to make me feel full. In hindsight I should have consulted my surgeon straight away, but I just thought we could discuss it on my next visit, which is next Tuesday. About two weeks ago, my stomach started t…

Okay this is my story I have been banned close to a year. I'm still at my same weigh maybe 2 pounds less. I have a doctor that will not give you a fill if you lost 4 pounds between visits . I have go back after my surgery 6 week so of course I lost more than 6 pounds so no fill for me that day. 6 weeks nothing in my band. Then the next month I had a stomach bug that I just got over about two week before I went in. He said no fill. so by this point how was so discourage I miss a 2 months thinking that I will always be fat. So I went back because I was so not going to go through the surgery which was a painful surgery for me without getting fill so I'm at my same with in D…

Sleeved Monday 15th in Australia was 136kgs (299lbs) almost 4 days exactly and I'm 131.6 kgs (290) I feel like I can go play golf although I won't for a month :-( had a couple of walks and went to the supermarket straight from hospital to buy some supplies felt a little tired after. Was only on pain medication for about 18 hours total nothing since. Apart from the runs everything seems pretty good taking Imodium and hoping that will slow things down. Hard to get excited about current diet with another 9 days of liquid only. A bit worried with everything going so well, what's going to go wrong? But I know not to get ahead of myself and complacency will be my downfall. …

Back in October 2012 after having the lap band only 7 months (it working successfully) I had an adjustment adding fluid I did well for about 3 weeks then became sick I would vomit after eating anything and at times after just liquids it was accompanied with abdominal pain I went to the urgent care and was advised it could be a flu going around or a start of an appendicitis I went home symptoms never ceasing I contacted my lap band dr who suggested removing the fluid to help if it was the flu I went home again symptoms Continuing for the …

Hi everyone! My name is Jeff. I just had a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on Monday, April 8th. Dr. Sergei Lyass performed the operation at Marina Del Rey Hospital (MDR, CA). I am feeling no hunger and getting stronger everyday. My biggest complaint would be the JP drain, but it's not a big deal. I have some pain and a slight bit of nausea, but I'm feeling good about doing this. According to my scale, I've lost 11 pounds in 6 days.

I'm 8 weeks post-op tomorrow. I've lost 50 pounds from my highest weight last November (right after Thanksgving!). And in the last 24 hours I've had 3 NSVs. 1. I have an important job interview tomorrow so went looking for a new outfit. I was able to purchase off the rack in the regular ladies department...not plus sizes. That was huge...haven't done that in years. 2. I'm wearing a belt that didn't fit around my waist in January...and I'm already adjusting it to the 4th hole. So even though I can't always see a difference in my appearance...it's happening! 3. And my last NSV...I'm getting my neck back!!! You ladies know what I mean. I put on a necklace tod…

Well I am currently living alone because my husband is away for work. He cannot come home for 8 more months. I will be having my surgery basically alone (a friend will be helping as I need). Since pursing my REY and going through all of the process, I have lost 30 lbs. Yes, I yo-yo. So my family is NOT in support of my choice to get REY. It annoys the f*ck out of me because they don't see the diabetis, the sleep problems, the binging..... to them its about weight I suppose. I got the lecture about "Taking the short cut" blah blah blah. Honestly, I am rather offended at how they have acted..... do they think I am some idiot???? I am a higher risk patient due to severe…
