Hi everyone! I'm new here and was hoping to get some thoughts on a few things. I got the band with plication on 12/6/12. So far I have lost 31 pounds, but most of that was liquid diet before the surgery and right after surgery. Basically I have been losing and regaining the same 3 pounds over and over for the past 2 months. I am eating right...1200-1400 calories per day and walking for 30 minutes everyday. I feel like I have been trying really hard and am not getting results which is really frustrating me. I just got a pretty big fill last week, so I'm hoping that will help...but I'm just wondering if this is normal? I am so discouraged!

Hi. I got the call today that my insurance approved my surgery, and now I have to set up an appt with the surgeon as to which surgery best suits me. My question is.. How much longer will it be before the surgery date is set? Thanks for your help.

Anyone else grossed out by certain foods? It feels like a hassle to eat right now and nothing sounds good! I have done well so far with no complications and have lost 29 lbs! I'm one lb away from ONEDERLAND! So I'm not meaning to complain but I feel like I did when I was pregnant. I can't even stand the smell of food! Did anyone else go through this? What got you through it? The only way I am getting in my protein is to add a premier vanilla into my hot tea and coffee. And I'm definitely NOT pregnant btw.... Thanks for any advice anyone can give! It sucks since I should be moving onto regular food soon and can't stand to look at it or smell it!

I'm post op almost three weeks now and I didn't tell a lot of people about my surgery. I haven't gone out much but I know once people see me they will have questions and will definitely have questions once they realize I'm not eating as much as before. By no means am I ashamed about my surgery, I'm just not in the mood to loose friends once I tell them, due to a or any negative comments they might have. Honestly I don't know if there will be negativity but I'm wondering what to expect or should I not say anything. HELP!!!

I started this process on July 16, 2012. I'm a relative newbie, just having my surgery 56 days ago. My new pet peeve is people who readily offer what I like to call "RNY tales of terror"- you know, the stories about the one person everybody knows who had RNY, who either had debilitating complications or who lost half of their original body weight only to gain it all back and more. If you are pre op and have been discouraged by these stories, I want you to hear mine- so far. I had my surgery less than two months ago. I'm close to being off all my insulin. My blood pressure is even better than before. My joints feel better. I have not had a migraine since j…

Also the "full feeling" they say you will feel I don't feel it in my stomach I feel it in my throat it feels like if I take another bite ill puke. Does anyone else have this? I'm not over eating I get that feeling after a few bites. Any kind of feed back would be great!! Oh and since a week pre op til today I'm down 30 pounds!!! Yay

So I am 21, 5'6", 338lbs, bmi/55.5. I have been considering rny since I was 16. I have been over weight since I can remember. I have been on and off diets since I was 11. I am blessed to not have any health issues from my weight...yet. I have come to be comftorable and confident in my own skin. I am married to my loving husband of three years, we have a son named jesse who will be two july 1st. I had a very hard life all through school, I was always depressed being made fun of took a toll on my during middle school. My mother had to pull me out of public school and home school me. I made the decision to enroll in public high school because I wanted the expirence and thoug…

Just wondering... what happens if another medical issue comes up in your life and you have the LB? Does it interfere? Will it pose a problem down the road? Hypothetically if a woman has ovarian cysts or a heart problem? Will having the lap band cause unnecessary medical complications?

Hello everyone, I have been reading a lot of your stories for a while now. Very inspiring, and a lot of good information. I figured I would wait till I was close to my surgery before I jumped in. Well, I am 5 days away from my surgery. Started a liquid diet two days ago and have already dropped 10 pounds. I hit my highest weight back in April of 2012, 410#. I knew I had to do something or I wouldn’t live past 50. I tried dieting on my own and was able to lose 40# over the summer, but as the weather started to change I started putting the weight back on. I put back on ten pounds and then decided I needed help if I was going to get this weight off. Have had a couple of…

Newbie here. Just dropping a line to introduce myself. I have struggled with my weight for many years. I have tried many diets, losing as much as 75 lbs at one time and then always regaining it all(and then some). I am in the process of jumping through all of the hoops to get my lap band surgery approved. The only thing I have left to do is a couple of more weigh-in appointments with my PCP. I'm told that the surgeon's office will then submit everything to be approved. He is confident that it will be approved. My BMI is 43 and I have hypertension. I'm just doing all of the reading and research I can do to make sure that I can be as successful with this as I can possibly b…

Hello, everyone! As I am new to this site, picking up on the way things are done may take me a little while. lol I am originally from Alabama but currently living in Australia with my DH and just celebrated my 30th birthday! I am not exactly sure where to start specifics about my past leading up to now and when to mention what all has occurred to influence my decision on having the VSG. I have been large from a very young age and I feel that it's primarily due to the sexual and physical abuse I endured as a child. As I grew and years passed, the more and more weight I gained - as that weight piled on, my self-esteem, will power, and self-worth decreased. Fast forwar…

I keep thinking about food...and yet Im lost with what can I eat at the puree stage because Im sick of looking at food that looks like throw up blended up ( that's just how Im feeling ) Im thinking about how much i miss food...my favorite meals. I feel like Im never going to eat my favorite Chinese food...or favorite sandwich ever again. Its almost Like if my mind is r…

Started considering WLS 7 years ago. Won't do RNY, too afraid of all the re-routing and the malabsorption issues, so considered lapband. After doing all the steps for insurance (sleep study, Dr-supervised diets, psych eval), I decided lapband wasn't quite right for me either, but continued seeing my PCP every 3 months, and using my CPAP ever since. Now 7 years later, after discovering the gastric sleeve, I've decided this is the best route for me. Insurance told my surgeon they only needed a lust of the diets I've done in the past 5 years, a 5-year weight history, and maybe a couple other things, all of which I did within a week of my first visit to the surgeon (3/13/13…

I have been overweight since I was a child. I was a very curvy teenager, and I had no problem with that. My ideal size was about a 14-16 or so. I am 5"10' so it looms funny for me to be too skinny. I met my husband when I was 15, and a size 16. We were two peas in pod so we got hitched at 20. Then, after that, and we did all kinds of outdoor activities. We went hiking, fishing, camping, and the like. We did tons of traveling. It was great. Then there were issues with conceiving and I was diagnoses with Polysistic Ovaries and it really messed up my hormones. I started packing on weight really badly. Then, came the migraines and the really bad thigh and leg pain and even us…

Hello there! I have been a member for so very long and I am happy to say that my journey is on the horizen!! I have been attending groups through my insurance and the hospital I'm getting the surgery at for well over a year and a half. Smoking has kept me stuck for a while, I am happy to report I have been smoke free for 5 months now. I am excited, hopeful and keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. I'm glad to report that I can check in here more often now because the process is close to beginning. Okie doke....thanks for be…

Hello, This is my first time posting in the forum. I recently had my surgery on March 27, 2013. My BMI wasn't that high 30.5. I was really undecisive if I should ge the lapband. What made me realize is that I don't want to struggle with my weight for the rest of my life. I'm 21 & have many years ahead. I've tried every diet and I love working out but still struggled. So that's when I decided. I do not regret the choice of getting the lapband. I have already lost almost 7 pounds in 2 weeks. Went from 168 to 161. Of course insurance didn't cover. But like I said I do not regret getting the lapband

I was banded on 4-1-13. A few days before surgery I was getting a scratchy throat and cough. I contacted my surgeon and his partner was on call and told me it was ok, it was probably just a bug. They did surgery on me and I got very sick, coughing with a stomach full of incisions is not fun normally but with the cough, fever and chills.....bad, bad idea. Remember this if it happens to you. I also want those of you out there thinking this is going to change your eating habits because you cant eat is wrong. I was pretty sick the first 5 days, day 6 (today) is better. I am having trouble swallowing pills, I have no cravings, yet don't know how much to eat since my sur…

My surgery is scheduled for May 21st. I've done the psych eval and met with the surgeon. Physical therapy is next week. I'm at the point of researching the eating plan and trying to find Protein sources I'll like and use. I've spent years considering weight loss surgery, but there was always a drawback I didn't think I could live with when thinking about bypass and the lap band. VSG will be challenging, but I think I can work with it. The amount of food eaten doesn't seem to be that much less than my very thin friends eat to maintain their weight. I started adjusting what I eat last week and have already taken off some weight. I hope to lose 20 lbs before surgery to giv…

Ok I hate my scale. I have a weight watchers scale and I have noticed that the readings are often off. Now I am guilty of weighing myself every day. I know I know. But according to my scales I lost 4lbs and gained 4lbs this week alone. One day I will weigh and it shows I've lost 2 lbs and then the next I've gain 2lbs. Its so frustrating. I know I'm not suppose to weigh every day. Some weigh once a week, some once a month and some have thrown away their scales. I'm just frustrated. Anyone else have problems with their scales?

Hello all. I'm new to this site and hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I had my lap band surgery in 2005. I had great success... Followed program, participated in groups, lost 60 pounds. Fell in love. Got married. Husband was (and is) very supportive of my weight loss and understands the restrictions of the lap band. Fast forward to 2009. Something changed. My company relocated us. I lost touch with my support group and doctor. Stopped following program. Not surprisingly, I started gaining weight. As of today, I have regained 30 pounds. I've finally found a local doctor willing to accept me as a patient. Band is fine and was adjuste…

Hello! I've been lurking around the board for a bit reading all the great posts. Here's my story, struggled my entire life with weight and food! Lost with Weight Watchers once about 20 years ago, have tried numerous times since with no luck at sticking to it since I developed diabetes about 10 years agao, after I swore I would not let it get me(my father died from complications from diabetes). I also have high chlorestrol, high triglycrides (life threthening high), thyroid problems, major reflux, sleeping problems. I'm a hot mess! My BMI is right at 35, not as high as some, but I'm extremly effected by this extra weight. Last year the doctor put me on an insulin pump, ga…

My insurance requires me to have 6 months of documented dieting which I go to my 5th month appointment next week and 5 years of medical history. I have done everything that was asked but I am having a really hard time with the 5 years of medical history due to my insurance changing every year for the last five years. I have been with the same company for 8 years now but to keep insurance cost down they have changed insurance each year. I do not even know how to start on getting 5 years of history or if I even have 5 years of history. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone! I was sleeved 3/27/13 and so far I have lost 21 pounds after surgery and 34 pounds since my first visit to the Drs before surgery! After I got out of the hospital I didn't need the pain meds which I am glad. The only incision that hurt was my belly button where they pulled out my stomach. I drink two Protein drinks a day 30 grams in each drink. Is this enough? I feel it is. Wednesday April 10th I start soft protein and boy I can't wait till I can chew lol! I walk everyday 30 minutes in the am and again in the evening. I play pickle ball so will continue that when I go home. Well that's about it for now. Hope to hear back from someone lol. T

I've been struggling with this! I'm still pre-op and both my parents know, my dad even went to the seminar and the consult with me, my 2 besties, and my aunt (who had the roux-en-y) and a cousin. Other than that, I've told no one. But I work at a pharmacy and I really don't want my co-workers to know...that's my biggest concern. Idk, what excuse I'm going to give for the off time I'll need to get the surgery or the meds I'll need afterward!!!! SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!!! I'm not that clever when it comes to making things up! Lol

I am going to have gastric weight loss surgery in the next couple months. I have been doing the classes with Kaiser, who I have my ins. with. I am hearing rumors from class members and nurses, that there are quite a few problems with the band. I have heard that there is a 25 percent failure rate, and they are undoing almost as many as they are doing. I have only 60-70 lbs. to loose, and I really don't want to have a bypass ( my only other option ) as I fear loosing too much weight and looking older, as I am in my 60's now. I am also concerned about the malabsorption issues and the 'dumping syndrome' that comes with the bypass. I would be very grateful to hear some feed…
