Well it has now been 2 weeks since I had my surgery and everything seems to be going ok. Except for the kidney infection (anyone else get one of these after surgery), I have been feeling ok. I was wondering if anyone else had an issue with being afraid to drink or eat anything after surgery? I seem to have built up this fear and now I seem to be stuck in place with no idea how to move forward. My doctor is unavailable for a least a month as well as the surgeon who did the surgery so information is something I have had to get from online sources. Any help will be much appreciated I am also aware that soft foods may be eaten starting week 3 but not sure what qualifies …

Had the operation this morning. All went very well and I am watching the NCAA Tournament in my room. I should get out of the hospital tomorrow around noon. Few notes... First surgery ever. It wasn't anywhere as bad as i thought it would be. It went so smoothly. I met a girl. Her name is Morphine. She was been great but I am thinking about breaking off with her soon. I think we both knew this would not be long term. The notes on here about what to bring were amazing and very helpful. Finally...I am sooooo EXCITED!!!!

Okay, first off. I weighed in at 277lbs in my first consultation visit for getting the lap-band back in February. My pre-op weight was recorded as 256lbs on 03/20/2013. Today I stand at an official 243lbs. So that's where all those calories went that I didn't eat... Lol I had hernia repair during the lap-band placement. Apparently it was a considerable sized hernia. Took 2 stitches to close it up, got a pic if anyone wants to see... Haha So, I went from big gaping g hole around my esophagus to a nice tight form fitting hole and a band. Most of you know I have been having problems with pills, and various other things, even bigger gulps of Water have ended up PB'd. So …

Had my first appointment with my surgeon today. Super excited. Now I have to do a 3 month supervised weight loss (required by my insurance) I have a feeling it going to be the looongest 3 month of my life. I'm just really excited with this change in my life. I've (like soo many) struggled with my weight all my life. Up, down, up and up and up. It's never really bothered me too much but within the past year and a half it's been bothering me. I think I'm just over it. I want the real me to come out. Instead of being the funny fat girl I want to be the silly skinny girl. I want to be able to run with my son and play with him. I'm just ready to be happy :-)

My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday and I am excited & nervous at the same time. I assume this is normal but it's getting to me, the nerves that is. I have been on liquids for 3 days and it has been much easier than I thought it would be. The protein shakes were way too thick so I switched to "Isopure" it is like drinking kool aid and has no sugar The rest of the day I drink water and have soup for dinner. After surgery my nutritionist expects me to drink 2 ounces of protein every hour on the hour and two ounces every 1/2 hour with water in between. She says if you do this, you will stay full & hydrated. She explained that the hydration is extremely important fo…

After a long process I finally had the 'sleeve' procedure completed on March 18. I had no trouble during or after surgery. I was walking around the nurses station 5 hours after surgery and asking when I could go home! I was home the next day attempting to get my Protein and Water in my system--thinking to myself how can I do this! I am now 10 days post surgery. I can hardly tolerate the Protein shakes and am thankful for chicken broth flavored with lemon grass. I am taking two walks a day and looking forward to the next steps.

I have been a member of this site for what seems like years. When I first joined, I was exploring insurance options and if there would any "hoops" I could jump through to get approval. I researched self pay, I also researched going to Mexico. The funds just weren't there for me, I lost all hope. This past year i've been "living through" my fiance's mother. She got the sleeve back in April of 2012 and has made tremendous progress. I often got jealous. But would try to hide it. My fiance is a gym rat as well, so I've felt a little out of place in some sorts. Back in January I was looking for a new job, I wanted more money, and better hours..who doesn't, right? Well, I…

I had my surgery on February 28th so I'm four weeks out today and down 35 lbs which includes the pre-surgery diet phase. I'm beginning to be able to eat more real food but going very slowly and carefully. I have been obese my entire life. Seriously, I think I was born fat! No one else in my family has a weight problem so I guess all the fat genes glommed onto me. I am finding that so much of this journey is more about my mind and the emotional aspects of food and eating than the actual weight loss. I am in mourning in a way for all the food, that was such a source of comfort but also guilt and pain. In a way it still doesn't seem real that I made this choice, …

Hi All - I decided to find a forum as I feel I need some support from those who have been through the same experiences as I. My name is Samantha and all my life I have had a good figure (please don't think I am boasting, but I have been lucky). I had my first son at 22 and second at 30. By the time I hit 30 I was also working full time, not exercising and probably way over eating on a night time to make up for barely eating all day too busy stuck to the PC! I have always loved fashion and clothes and having been a steady 147lbs (am 5ft 10 inches) I was suddenly 154lbs and throughout my 30's it just kept creeping on, the more I dieted, the more weight I put on afterwa…

Hello everyone, As the title says, I just decided on getting the band this week. I had been on the rollercoaster yo-yo for the past 18 years. I am at a point right now where I know that it is time to do something. I have numerous obesity related co-morbid conditions. I've decided it's time to change my life. My husband isn't completely on board yet. He is afraid that the surgery will aggravate one of my conditions or that there will be horrible side effects. So, now I'm trying to get as much information that I can get for me and him. I've already been in contact with BeLite. oJoyce is my patient facilitator. I'm really interested in hearing abouit experiences with Dr…

Hey Everyone! I had my 6 month appointment on Thursday and cannot even believe how much has changed in 6 months. I am now 88 pounds down. I couldn't be happier! I'm feeling like a new person. I thought it would be good for me to reflect back a bit on how far I've come. I had started a website/blog when I started thinking about having surgery. Here is an excerpt from a post I wrote in July when I was awaiting my consultation appointment. "I wake up every morning feeling completely disgusted with my body and my behavior. I avoid the mirror when getting into the shower. I can hardly look at myself when I have a towel around me and have to put on a baggy shirt to blow d…

I had to have my portal replaced three days ago. Apparently I had no restriction for over two years and did not pay attention due to personal tradegies. I lost my husband to stomach cancer and my father almost to the day the next month. I've neglected my health and I need to get back on track before my next visit for a fill. I have been watching what I eat and excercise about thirty minus Mon-Friday. Saturday and Sunday about two hours. I belong to a fitness club and enjoy it. Please help, all responses would be appreciated!

Hi, I'm new to the site (well not really). I've been lurking and reading hundreads of post old and new before making up my mind. I have my first consultation next week and I cannot wait to get started. I'm 80/20 sure I'm going with the Lap Band, however I was also looking at the sleeve. It's nice to have a place to come and get support and info from those who have already taken the journey I'm just starting off. I'll will definately post again after my first consultation for an update. Look forward to getting to know this community in the future and you guys don't know how much help you've already been in my life and decision making.

I had my sleeve surgery in july 2012 and i have lost 50 lbs. Notice I didn't say "only" because 50 lbs. has make a huge difference in my life and i am much happier. I still need to lose 48 more to be at my goal. I am struggling every day with sweet and carb cravings and eating right in general, and every day i fail once again when it comes to food choices. I think once I realized that I could still eat anything, thats kinda just what i did. I am wanting to know if i can lose weight anymore, really, and has anyone else faced this in their weight loss journey and eventually been successful even after they fell in the middle? I exercise too, and i've tried to restart eat…

Yay!!!! Did any of you have to stay longer, I am just wondering, I have seen a post for lapband with plication, asked if that was something new and he said yes, I asked him what it does and it is like a sleeve with the band and he said you will lose weight faster, I said no, I want it slow as I dont want my gut dragging the floor between my legs...lol.... I had surgery three weeks ago. I was 197 on the day if surgery and I'm 182 today. Some people may think that's a slow loss but I'm ok with it. But the scale hasn't moved in a few days. I'm eating about 500 calories a day and get between 50-75g of protein a day. I get nearly 60oz of fluid and I'm exercising too. Anything else I can do to get the scale to budge?

Hey, is there anyone else with experience of having their lap-bands removed and now going thru by-pass surgery? I had mine put in almost 5 yrs ago and had to have it removed in August 2012; I lost 80 lbs the first year and felt fabulous and the next 3-4 yrs I stayed sick and throwed up EVERYTHING I ate!! I gained 40 lbs back, so since having it removed I've gained my 80 back and 50 more !! I have never felt so miserable in my life !! I can't wait to be healthy again!! Please share your stories with me, so I know I'm not alone !! Thanks, Janet

I just came from my 2nd appt and I was given the tentative surgery date of August 5th. I'm SOOO excited and just can't wait. Tomorrow I have my NUT appt, On April 2 I have my endoscopy appointment which is just the initial visit but things are moving. My PCP has already given my referrals for the echo and my pelvic exam so I don't have much to go and I'm hoping everything comes out good and my insurance approves it all so that way we can keep that Aug 5 surgery date

Hi, I'm Bobbie-Katie and I'm in the process of gastric sleeve, how to start this? haha well.. When I was 10 (2004), I had a car accident and had to have hip surgery that made me bed bound for a few weeks. My hip never healed and since then I have had countless hospital appointments/bed rest and operations. That was when I started gaining weight, I got lazy, being on bed rest just made me bored so I always turned to food and I guess I just used the fact I could hardly walk as an excuse. In 2006 I was 12 and at 13 stone and I was down, unhappy, insecure, hated going out so I decided it was time to do something. I went on a diet, I started bike riding for the first time af…

Hello Everyone This is my first post, but i've been reading the posts on the site for a few weeks now, and just plucked up the courage to join in. Usual story - a big eater with a huge love affair with food, happy go lucky and outgoing, but started to get very uncomfortable and restricted in my movement. went up to 289lbs and that was it for me. Due to be banded in the UK on the 4/9/13 - so just under 2 weeks to go. pre op diet started yesterday - it's very generous compared to some i've read on here- but started eating healthily the day I met my surgeon 4 weeks ago, and lost 19 lbs since. (i've even been on my bike) I'm very well supported at home thankfully x …

Hey everyone ... I was sleeved March 8 with Dr. Aceves. My first contact was with Nina one of the patient coordinators. Amazing! When we got picked up in San Diego, Ernesto picked us up and drove us to Mexicali. We had a quick break before we left town to let those who who could get a snack .... Get a snack . The drive is nice.... Scenery is gorgeous! Arrived at the hospital and did pee and blood work. EKG and x-ray as well. Met with Dr.Campos who went over all the nutritional information and then to the hotel for the night. My husband and I did a little bit of grocery shopping at Soriana and then went out for dinner to one of the restaurants at the hotel. Next m…

Hello, My name is Lisa Froman. I am 38 yrs old married. I have been thinking about Lap Band for quite a few yrs now. My husbands job keeps chainging every yr. I thought I would never be able to get it done. I have been overweight my whole life. I have tried every diet out there from Weight Watchers to just eating salads and nothing worked for me. Yeah I could lose 20-30 but gain it and more back.I had my first consultation on the 25th of Feburary and then I had my psy eval on the 28 of Feb. I then had my physical and dietian appt and just got the call today that my insurance company said yes to my surgery just waiting on the letter to arrive. I cried when i found out

Hi y'all! My name is Amber. I have been over weight for as long as I can remember. I have tried every diet imaginable and have failed. Diabetes runs in my family, and I am pre-diabetic. I want to be healthy and watch my niece and nephew grow up. I don't want to walk around and be out of breath within the first 2 feet. I want my joints to be pain free. I want to be able to run and play with the kids and not have to sit out because I can't keep up. I know these are a lot of wants, but I am tired of being over weight. I finally took a step in the right direction...I am going to an info session on the 19th of April. I am excited and nervouse and ready for a change all roll…

I'm 42, married and have two kids. One is gone to university and the other has two years of high school left. Been married 21 years. I'm in the Canadian Army and am in my 24th year. I love what I do, and can't think of doing anything else...plan to work until I'm 50ish, then should be in a good position to call it quits. I am trained to fix army kit, concentrating on electronics, however I'm more supervisory these days. I love life and leisure. I don't need a bunch of people or friends, as I believe in quality, not quantity... My wife is my best friend and I wouldn't have it any other way. We love vacationing together, and spending time with our kids, but we do realize th…
