Hello Everyone! I am new to this site and would like to introduce myself. My name is Karmen and I have struggled with my weight for too long. Growing up Carbs were a must in our diet, now I am struggling to change that. I finally have an insurance that covers WLS and I'm so grateful and happy that I will be able to change my life for the better with the help of this surgery. My first appointment with the surgeon was on 02/20 and got a list of things I needed to do by 04/02 Bloodwork Psychological evaluation Nutrirional evaluation / counseling Loose 5-7 pounds I did all of them except lose the weight and that's were I am having a hard time. I gained 2 mor…

I was recently talking to a friend of mine who had gastric bypass. I sort of looked up to her and the progress she has made. I chose the sleeve because it was a better choice for me. We often discuss experiences that we share on this journey. She had her surgery a year before me so she is almost at her goal. She doesn't exercise and continues to eat fast food. When she picks up a few pounds she goes back to her doctor's orders. I have hit a couple of mini stalls since my surgery in January. The scale doesn't always budge, but my body is changing. I am losing inches it seems. I have been proactive and have been walking and going to the gymHas anyone else experienced thi…

Let me start be saying that I am very happy with the amount I have lost to this point. I was sleeved 11/15/12 and am down 82 lbs. the problem is, I have so much more to lose and at the rate I'm losing at now it will take a VERY long time to get there. I'm stressing because I hear that most weight is lost within the first year after surgery. I'm only losing 1-2 lbs per week (sometimes less) and still need to lose 60 more. Are any of you in this situation? Should I try to go back liquids for a bit or increase calories for a bit? I hear suggestions for both, just don't know which works. Currently I am only getting 800-900 calories per day, 60-70 grams of protein. Wo…

I am a band to bypass revision. Surgery was November 26th. I have lost 60 lbs. I have 60 more to go to get to goal of 140. For the last 4 weeks, I have not lost anything and before that it was eeking by at 1 lb a week. I am following the guidleines almost to the letter. I do drink a glass a wine a night. I find I can eat more. I am writing because I am freaking out. Anyone else have this experience? I konw you really have a year to lose the weight. I am worried that there is something wrong with me and I will not get there. Any responses from experience are welcome.

The last 2 weeks the scale as been my best friend. It just has been going down the last two weeks. I felt like it wasn't budging 2 weeks ago. On Friday it will be 8 weeks since my surgery. I have lost 45 lbs so far! I am assuming that is about normal. I hope I continue to lose like this the next few weeks!

ok ya"ll I need advise. My band date is April 26. My question is I need to lose 75 lbs. I really want the band with plication. My Doctor charges a 500 program fee and 800 extra for plication. 1300 is a little steep for me right now with son in college. My husband is afraid I will have additional charges also for the hospital and anesthesia for the plication part. My question is should I just go with the band?? Sound off and thanks in advance.

I was in the process of all the prelim things you need prior to the sleeve then Hurricane Sandy hit and the hospital that I was doing this in NYU was hit hard . The hospital I work at went under water and I'm still not back to work. I have my husbands insurance at least so that's not a problem . I just feel like I'm hitting walls ( I went for EGD and I have an ulcer and Hiatal Hernia . I've been very down because I have to wait at least 10 weeks on medication until I have another EGD to see if it clears up . So I'm probably looking at July for surgery 9 months later then I thought I would have it and steadily gained more weight because if the stress issues I'm going thi…

Hello all! So excited to have found this forum!! My story is similar to many on this forum and I'm excited to share my experiences and to learn from you all. I began my final weight loss journey by way of gastric sleeve on February 21, 2013. The two weeks prior to that date I started a doctor supervised liquid diet. On that date, I weighed 433 lbs. Today, a little over seven weeks, I've lost 75 lbs! Can't wait to share more!

Hello Fellow Members, I just joined the group today, and my VSG date is set for May 9. Right now I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and nervous, getting ready for the pre-surgical appointments and preparing to shop for the "liver shrinking diet" supplies. I plan to do the pre-surgical diet for about 3 weeks, as opposed to the 2 required. A little about me ... I'm 54, female, and I teach English at a community college. I've been struggling with obesity for a long time, but especially for the past 12 years. I've probably lost and gained at least 500 pounds in my life. Surgery wouldn't have been my first choice, but I can't do this any more. My family (husband and 2 sons)…

I'm 4 weeks post op (surgery date 03/18/2013). Dr. Miguel del Mazo is my surgeon and he is awesome. HW 411, Pre Op 334, 4 weeks 304. I hope I charted correctly. Anywho, I am doing well for the most part. Trying to maintain 64 oz of water daily has been a challenge along with hunger!!! Starting today I'm more committed about preparing my mini meals ahead f time. If anyone can offer any meal planning suggestions that would be great. I'm open to almost anything other than cottage cheese. (I cannot stomach cottage cheese.) Thank you.

After 3 denials I was able to appeal the decision and now I'm finally approved!! My surgery is scheduled for May 6th. Now my only obstacle is coming up with the money needed upfront. I know $1400.00 isn't that bad but when you have four kids and live pay check to paycheck things are tight . I just have to keep faith that God didn't bring me this far for nothing. Feeling anxious, scared, excited, just about every emotion possible.

Hi everyone, Some of you may remember me and some may not, but I thought it would be a good time for an update on myself and my daughter. I also have a question regarding VSG and diabetes. I had VSG in November of 2010. My highest weight was 251. My lowest weight was 104 (too low for my 5'5" frame) and now I am holding steady between 108 - 112 (has been this low for over a year now). My regular doctor still thinks I am too thin, but my labs have been great so he isn't nagging me too much. My biggest problem other than what I address below is that I have a hard time finding clothes that are small enough (yeah, I know - stop complaining). My daughter had surger…

I was really sore the first day. I didn't want to walk.. but I did. This is SO IMPORTANT if u are to avoid bloodclots. This is day 5. Each day the pain seems to subside more and more ESPECIALLY when Ur taking the pain meds. I've been taking my vitamins.......everything except my protein which I start on day 8. I've lost close to 10lbs post op. AWESOME. For the most part craving food hasn't been a major problem. My soreness is what keeps me in check with the food. I bought this blue lawn chair like chair that allows me to sit propped up.

So I am five weeks post op and down 25 pounds since surgery. Going well. No reflux, and rarely feel actual hunger. Can eat about 3 oz at a time, unless it is dense, then a bit less. Still not able to reach my protein goal though. I have started using the frozen Yoplait Greek yogurt smoothie mix, with a scoop of the Jay Robb Dreamsicle protein powder. Tastes yummy, but makes about two servings. I have only had a few small problems. The first, was right after surgery the pain in my neck and shoulders was horrendous. I was told by the nurses and Dr that it was the gas from surgery working its way out of my system. I kept waiting for it to abate after a few days (as I was tol…

I have not had vsg yet but that is my plan and hope at this point . I have one ore month of supervised weight loss & then should be on my way . While having my Egd the doc said I had signs of avid acid reflux. This was new to me, I very rarely had any issues, only when I was pregnant. (3years ago). He then put me on med. for this "problem". I then within a week of taking this me started having indigestion like crazy and have felt awful ever since. I also was told during my stomach ultra sound that I have gallstones in the neck of my gallbladder . I felt like crap ever since they went fishing around doing these test. I had a attach of some sort the other day while eat…

I was banded in 2001 by Dr. Kuri in Tijuana. I have a 4cc band and never had a slip or problem. I had so many health problems which were going to get worse if the weight stayed, so Dr. Kuri went ahead even though my BMI was 35.2. In those days you would not be considered for any WLS unless you were 100 pounds overweight. In any case, the band was not legal in the USA yet. Back then we had to find our own way across the border and to his office, and his patients got a slightly lower rate in the nearby hotel but it was not included in the price. I went alone because nobody was supportive in my family, not even my husband. I got a cash advance from our credit card and…

I was given Lortab elixer for pain. I am sippi.g on water and having no trouble getting about 30 ml in at a time. Taking Zofran for some underlying nausea. It is hard to go from lying down to sitting though...I look pretty funny doing it. I am having trouble sleeping...I am exhausted but sleep wont come. Think it may be the medicine.

Hello there, I am new here, but am 4 months into this journey of living with gastric bypass. I had my surgery on Dec. 20th, 2012 with Dr. Castro at Methodist Dallas. It has been a great experience so far! I am down 63 pounds and counting. My surgery was a revision from a very old type of band called a Molina band( named after the doctor that placed them) I have had no complications so far. I do battle head hunger more than I care too, but he didn't operate on my mind!!!! I have attended a couple of face to face support meetings, but am looking for as much support as possible to make this journey work for me! I am looking forward to hanging out here and learning …

This January I had a life changing moment after climbing only 2 flights of stairs at the hospital where I work, but before I explain what happened let me tell you what I do for a living and introduce myself to everyone officially. I am a female who is 5'8" and 39 years old and have been overweight since I was about 9 or 10. I am a critical care RN and I am on the rapid response team, that means that if a patient in the hospital has a major change in their condition I am called to the room to quickly assess the patient and treat the problem emergently in order to stabilize the patient while the doctor is called. It is basically like calling 911 in the hospital. So to get b…

Wondering how long most have stayed out of work post-op? I work at a hospital and am wondering just how much time I might need to take. I also have a 11 month old and wonder how hard it will be to care for her. My hubby took off two weeks to help out. But I would love to be able to return to work after 2 weeks. I have had 2 csections... Bounced back from them quick. Will this be the same?

The NUT said that we wouldnt be hungry at all after surgery for the first couple weeks...after reading some of your posts Im wondering how true that really is..I know their is head hunger and you have to seperate that from real hunger I am wondering if its the rule or the exception to feel hungry and deprived after surgery. I will be honest Im being sleeved in 48 hours and I and I want to know what to expect.

I began my journey at 50, after 30 years of research, decisions and battling insurance, weight and my own ideology. I went through the Legacy Diabetes and Weight Loss Institute. My surgery was completed by Dr. Jay Jan. Surgery took a bit longer than thought due to adhesions and recovery was weird with my body being overheated. They kept a fan on me for two days lol. I was up and moving an hour after reaching my room. Pain was not decreasing after release and seemed to localize. Sadly I developed an infection in my main incision site. It was opened and drained yesterday and wicked. I am currently on antibiotics and the incision was left open (ick!). The surgeon said…
