advise please

ok ya"ll I need advise. My band date is April 26. My question is I need to lose 75 lbs. I really want the band with plication. My Doctor charges a 500 program fee and 800 extra for plication. 1300 is a little steep for me right now with son in college. My husband is afraid I will have additional charges also for the hospital and anesthesia for the plication part. My question is should I just go with the band?? Sound off and thanks in advance.

Do what you are comfortable with. My doctor won't do a plication. He is from a Boston hospital. CG had it done, loves and it totally agrees with her. Think of it this way, your food bill go down so that makes up for the additional $$$ but then you need new clothes to fit the new body. Good luck with what ever you decide on. My insurance pays for everything except a small co-pay.

I was banded 11/28/11 and no one ever mentioned plication to me. Had I known, I may have opted for band w/plication too. Research the pros and cons before you decide?

CG has done very well with plication, but I know she works just as hard with it as does someone with just the band. I know, we're friends. The only difference I have seen is, she has not had any fills yet, where I have had three.

Do whatever you can afford.

I have had the Lap Band Plication! I was afraid at first at this new procedure but my God the results do work. I received mines also the same week as Maddygram mention as Carolinagirl last April and I lost close to 80 Pounds and we have been very successful! Now Please Don't Get me wrong i am sure that those with just the Lap Band have done great as well.

I have double the weight loss rate, I guess because I have the plication and the work out is crazy daily!! But if more money cost better results then what are you loosing if you spend more money and see more happiness then it all pays off!! Never think of it as paying more see it as gaining more!!

And I do mean! Happiness and to me cost more then 1300 and trust you me!! God will return it back to you anyways!!!

*hugs to you gals who mentioned me*

the dr advised me this (plication) would assist me in losing weight..just (having the plication) wont make the band work any faster unless i changed what i ate and how much and begin moving my rear end that was the size of a mack truck.

i believe it to be true...those with the plication and those without it can lose weight and they also can gain weight...its up to the person to use the tool correctly. i feel if someone thinks having the plication will give super magic powers, they maybe mistaken.....it will help yes, but the person has to help the band and plication.

mad is a success and does not have plication

shr and me have the plication and are doing well.....

the three of us are eating right, eating the allotted amounts and just doing it. and not depending on (what we have inside our tummy) to define if we will lose weight or not.

my 3 cents

I have the plication and think it really enhances the band. Just an opinion hard to tell, because I never had a band without plication. I did not have to pay extra for the plication. The dr has a grant for that. Maybe you can look into that. I don't mean to say the extra money isn't worth it, but your husband may be right. Ask if there are extra hidden prices. Fir instance because I fit a certain checklist I was able to go home day of surgery (live close to hospital. no other health probs, there was a list of things my dr considered). However he wants all his plication patients to stay overnight. If I had to pay out of pocket for that (being that insurance did not cover overnight stay bc I was a candidate to go home) my bills would be very high. Ask about other fees and if dr is subsidized by any grants.

Are there other drs in your area who do plication? it can't hurt to get a second opinion/consultation, even if you don't do plication. I like shopping around for imot stuff like doctors.

In the end, with or without plication you will probably lose about the same amount of weight if you work towards your goal!

Plication is when they fold your stomach inward in half and stitch it. It's supposed to be kind of like the sleeve.

My dr wouldn't do both so I chose just the plication. Mostly because of the maintenance o the band and I live two hrs away from the closest fill dr. I've had great success so far. Sw 199 dec/12 cw 165 and I'm 5'7. Shoot away if you have any questions. Good luck with your choice;)

From what my surgeon said, plication is not done in a lot of places. Florida doesn't allow it. Experimental!!!Anyway, CG does have it and others, too. Best wishes!Karen

I had my IBand (lapband with plication) done in Ft Worth Texas at True Results. The doctor did not charge any extra for the plication. I have only had my done for 3 1/2 weeks, but I love it and am happy with my choice. My doctor said the results are 25% BETTER than with just the lapband alone.

Another plus you have to think about with the plication is that I hear that your chance of band slippage is minimal. My band is slipped now and I'm facing a revision (most likely the sleeve). I wish plication had been available in 2009.

Hello ladies!

I made a username just to respond to this!

Kll724: plication is TOTALLY allowed in Florida-- I had it done in broward 3 days ago

Just thought I should clarify, there's plenty of research on the short term advantages of plication just not a lot on the long term, because its a fairly new procedure.

The surgeon folds your stomach and makes about 3 stitches to create a smaller pouch. I went for it because I could afford to do it and from what I understand it makes the initial stages (aka "bandster hell") quite a bit easier.

GOOD LUCK!

Just had band, plication wasn't even mentioned. Down 70lbs since 5/30/12! There's work involved either way and it's better to have a little slower loss for long term results. For me...if I really can't afford something then I don't need it, but that's my logic. You are being banded and you will loose as long you are diligent. Good luck!
