Hello, I have not posted in a while, and have been wondering how the year has been going for everyone? I started this year with the same resolution as many many years before... To get healthier!!! Weighed in on Jan 1st at 369lbs. Started per op diet on Jan the 14th. Banded on Jan the 29th at 355lbs. Second fill today, 310lbs. I have had good and bad days...As all of us do. Everytime I have a bad day or rough time with the band, I log in and get insperation for everyone of you. You might not realize it, but all of you are helping myself and others by just posting good and bad experiances. I THANK ALL OF YOU...HAVE A GREAT YEAR!!!!!!'' Daron

Hi All, My name is Amy. I am new to the forum and I look forward to reading all of your posts. I have finally decided to seek gastric sleeve surgery and I am in the beginning stages. I have received a refarral from my PCP, have gone to the first info. session, and am approved by my insurance company for surgery. Seeking health has been a life-long journey for me. I exercise regularly, and eat a balanced diet. Unforunately, my body has many auto-immune conditions, including Type I diabetes, chronic hives, hashimotos thyroid, and celiac diease. Worsening blood pressure, asthma, sleep apnea and cholesterol levels are complicated by weight gain. I have worked with a nutrioni…

Hi everyone. I had a band put in 7 years ago this June. I was told that they decided to go with the large band, don't recall why that was. I LOVE my band. I went in at 5'4" weighing 210 pounds. With in about 2 1/2 years I was at 135. I went for my regular visits and my surgeon has you stick to a VERY strict diet. I definitely would have lost the weight faster, but I had a nurse practitioner who insisted that I did not need a fill over a long period of time. I kept going back and was not losing anything. After she said "I absolutely refuse to give you a fill", I refused to see her anymore I made my next appointment with the surgeon and after hearing my symptoms he said " s…

Hello everyone! I am new here, and thought I would share my journey so far! I watched my brother-in-law go through the Gastric Sleeve Surgery and process, and decided this is something I wanted to do for myself. I have always been overweight, and I have finally had enough! I am ready for a change:) I started the whole process on 1/19/13, and my surgery date is finally scheduled for 4/18/13! I started my liquid diet on 4/3/13, two days ago, and I've already lost 5.5lbs! 12 days to go! It's not as bad as I thought it would be! Yes I get hungry and light-headed once and a while, but it doesn't last long. I'm not just completely miserable, which I thought I would be! …

I'm 26 years old (27 next month), standing tall at 5'1 and currently at 214lb (still pre-op). I started my journey in January at 239lbs and lost the first 25 lbs through healthy eating and exercising. Well surgery for me is tomorrow! I have been preparing myself (physically and mentally) but it seems no amount of preparation can ever be enough for the change that is to come. I would love to hear from people regarding exercising after surgery and any tips/suggestions to decrease amount of excess skin wit…

As of today, I've lost 100.6 lbs since I first began my gastric surgery program on May 5, 2012. I lost 60 lbs in 9 months pre-surgery. I've lost 40 in the 9 weeks since surgery on my 50th birthday, February 12, 2013. I feel more restriction now, 9 weeks out, than I did at 3 weeks out. I'm no longer using Protein shakes regularly, though I do occasionally add unflavored Protein powder to a smoothie when I need to get a little more protein in. I shoot for about 35% protein, 35% carbs, and 30% fats, and under 1000 calories per day. I still have a long way to go - another 200 lbs to goal - but I feel confident that I will get there. I never used to think I wanted surger…

Soooo, I consulted with my insurance, researched local surgeons, and submitted my getting started paperwork. I am looking for support from people who understand the struggle and reassurance that this is a good decision.

I am not sure regret is the word I would use to describe my journey... I was sleeved 1/21. SO excited about my journey, did everything by the book!! Felt little restriction and questioned that but I had to deal with what I was dealt. Began walking, then was in a stall so I started running/walking, still stalled so I began running which I built up and was averaging 10-15 miles a week. I became obsessed with my weight. Journaling, weighing several times a day, graphing caloric intake verses calories burned. After 10 weeks of people telling me be patient you will lose, you have a low BMI, you are in a stall, gave my Nutritionist MFP username and she replied I was doing a g…

I am barely three weeks post op and can't swallow another drop of water. I have always hated water anyway, now this is torture! I am about ready to just quit drinking all together. I would rather be hooked up to an iv than to drink more nasty water. I really wish I had not had this surgery now knowing that I can't drink anything good for the rest of my life!!!! I have tried all kinds of water flavorings, sugar free powdered drinks and adding fruit to the water. nothing helps. Beware: if you hate drinking water, this surgery may not be for you. Hi; My surgery was in December of 2011. I lost well for the first six months and then after 30 pounds I reached a plateau. I just let it ride for a few months, concentrating on other parts of my life. I actually think that was a good period because it let me get used to my new size (and buy a new wardrobe). Three months ago I went back for a fill and have lost another 20 pounds - too fast, I know. My issue is that I really have no concept of how I look. People tell me I don't need to lose any more, but I still weigh 180, which is too much for my height. So, are my friends just being kind? Do I look to the world like a normal person or a fat one? I, at first, had settled on the lapband, but after going to my seminar and hearing about the gastric sleeve, my husband and I decided together that that was the better choice for me. I have been struggling with my weight for over 10 years, dieting on and off for most of that time, losing the weight and gaining it back, but my weight gain escalated when I got pregnant with my daughter. Is it odd that the first thing to pop into my head after the call was "hey I finally got some big girl thigh high boots, what am I going to do with them?" I guess I should be asking real questions. How long from approval to surgery? Thanks for letting me rant. Jojo

Hi all! I am getting revision surgery early tomorrow morning! I am excited, stressed, and so ready to do this! I started with the band in 2008 and lost around 30 pounds, had to have gall bladder surgery, and gained back 15. I had a too tight band and developed a hiatal hernia and erosive gastritis. Getting stuck was the norm! So, with my sleep apnea and needing to lose 90 pounds to hopefully regain my health, I am doing it. I have been on a liquid 800 cal diet since last Wednesday. I am 10 pounds down this morning. Wish me luck sleeping tonight here in Raleigh, NC!!
